Hi
I just figured out this yesterday. For some reason my computer seemed
to be reacting slower and slower over the last few months. Well, I started
checking the settings in JAWS 13. After turning the key interrupt feature
off the computer is back working as fast as it ever has. Smile. I suspect
others may have found out about this trick before me. However, I wanted to
put it out there for whoever it might help.

God bless,

Re: [Blind-Computing] Trick to Make Jaws react faster

2011-12-03 Thread Bob W
I am using jaws12.

I pressed insert+f2 to bring up the run jaws applications menu (or something
like that).
I pressed "s" until I heard "settings menu" and pressed enter.
I pressed ctrl+shift+d to bring up the default settings.
I typed interrupt in the search menu. You should get one result, it's the
one you want. Check it or uncheck it.
Tab to ok and press enter.

Hope this helps.

Samson,

Find the exe file for the program:

1. ctrl esc
2. tab once
3. press "c" for computer
4. find your hard disk and press enter
5. press "P" until you get to either Program
files or Program files x86, where ever your program is located.
6. Find your program folder and press enter. You
may have to enter in a couple folders depending
on where your executable file resides.
7. Once you find the exe file of your program
either right click on it or use the apps key
8. Arrow up to Properties and press enter
9. Shift Tab twice to the tab bar, you'll land on "General"
10. Right arrow to Compatibility tab and tab
until you see a check box to run in compatibility mode
11. Check the box and tab to a combo box of which
to choose which OS you'd like to run it under and press enter.

Windows has the ability to run programs under
older OS's simulated in the current OS. This can
sometimes help issues. Sometimes not, but sometimes yes.

Hope that helps.

Brad

I'd try installing them and if need be, run them
in compatibility mode. I've had a program swore
by the manufacturer that it wouldn't run in Win 7
64 bit, it runs smoothly, no issues. FYI, I am
running the latest version of Sound Forge Audio
Studio, non-professional version, and it is
plenty accessible with Jaws, no scripts.

Can I install the old programs on my Windows 7

I asking since I not am sure about the
accessibility for JAWS-users in the new versions.

Hi Mark,
When in the Narrator window, you can simply move to the exit button, and hit
the spacebar, and you will get a dialogue asking if you want to turn it off,
and you will be given the choice of Yes or No.
When you press Windows key + U, that opens the Ease of Access Center, and
pressing Alt + N, starts Narrator.

[Blind-Computing] Volume

2011-12-03 Thread Brad Dunsé
I'm considering purchasing a mechanical keyboard
as oppose to the standard bubble membrane type;
however, the one I'm considering , a DAS brand,
comes only in the 104 Enhanced key style with no
multi-media keys for volume control. I'm running
Windows 7 and wonder if there is a quick way to
set volume for Winamp or other separately than
Jaws without having to enter the Sound applet in
Control panel, finding the appropriate sound
device and going into properties and setting it?

Hi Michael,
Windows Explorer is in a category view by default,
and when you are focused on, devices with removable storage, you are on
the
category heading, not the actual drive.
If you down arrow, you should come to the external drive, where you can
press enter.
I personally don't like the category view, for this reason,
so I got rid of it.

Hi Brad,
Your best bet would probably be looking for a third-party volume utility,
or considering a different keyboard.
If you are using a wired keyboard, Microsoft has a nice one that has volume
control keys just above the function keys.
It is a, "Comfort Curve" keyboard, and sells for about $20.

Hi Michael,
Windows Explorer is in a category view by default,
and when you are focused on, devices with removable storage, you are on
the
category heading, not the actual drive.
If you down arrow, you should come to the external drive, where you can
press enter.
I personally don't like the category view, for this reason,
so I got rid of it.

Re: [Blind-Computing] I'm looking at a new computer

2011-12-03 Thread Rick Justice
Hi Randy,
The brand of computer shouldn't make any difference, as long as it is
running Windows,
since Jaws will only work with Windows.
The trick is first deciding exactly what you want the computer to be able to
do for you,
and then find one that will do it, and has the most resources within your
budget.
By resources, I am talking about processor speed, memory and hard drive
capacity, etc.
You should be able to buy one off-the-shelf, that has more than you will
need, unless you do some extreme audio and video editing.
Most likely, the widest selection will be 64-bit systems with Windows 7
so you might as well make the move.
Happy shopping!

an upgrade.
does it matter what desktop brand I get?
or do they have to be spicific to run with jaws>
What I mean is, will there be any video card issues?
I may be looking at Windows 7. I'm not sure.

Re: [Blind-Computing] Volume

2011-12-03 Thread Brad Dunsé

Rick,

I saw some of those 3rd party ones that allow hot
keys, but I didn't want to download any old thing
not knowing what other nasties might be with it
:). Perhaps a bit paranoid on that but erring
caution I guess. I'm looking at a mechanical
keyboard, one with much more responsiveness and
longer lasting, and unfortunately more expensive.
I do like the angled type though, I've got a wireless one like that I'd used.

Hi Brad,
Your best bet would probably be looking for a third-party volume utility,
or considering a different keyboard.
If you are using a wired keyboard, Microsoft has a nice one that has volume
control keys just above the function keys.
It is a, "Comfort Curve" keyboard, and sells for about $20.

Michael:
CTRL panel, CTRL E for the search, type programs and features, tab until
you

get to the link that says programs and features and press enter.

Navigate to the program that you would like to remove and press your
applications key or shift F 10 for the context menu. Once that comes up,
arrow to you hear uninstall and press enter and follow the prompts.

Hi Michael:
Go to your CTRL panel. After you are in your CTRL panel press CTRL e
to take you into the search if you already are not on there. If you
tab once, you should land on a category button. If not, tab until you
hear category button. Press space bar. A context menu will open, if
you use your up and down arrow keys, you should hear category checked.
Down arrow or up arrow until you hear large icons or small icons.
Press enter on one of the two and after that everything will appear in
a list and in alphabetical order and you can navigate among the CTRL
panel via letter navigation.

Hi Michael,
I believe the control panel is in as much of a list as you are going
to get in Windows 7.
Someone can correct me if I am wrong.
As far as folders, the same applies as in Windows XP.
When you are in a folder, just go to the view menu, and make sure that
list is checked.

Hi Michael,
Windows Explorer is in a category view by default,
and when you are focused on, devices with removable storage, you are on
the
category heading, not the actual drive.
If you down arrow, you should come to the external drive, where you can
press enter.
I personally don't like the category view, for this reason,
so I got rid of it.

Hi
You might want to create a short cut to:
C:\Windows\System32\SndVol.exe
Then one just clicks the Icon and tabs to mute and hits enter. I hope this
helps.

God bless,
Mark

Thanks yep I see that too. What I'm looking for
is something to quickly mute or turn down volume
when the phone rings or the like without having
to dig deep in a key sequence :). Thanks for the
input though, that is first base if nothing else.
