Re: [Blind-Computing] pearl reader
It felt like the letter L to me not a C, but Eric did show me the lip or edge where the items to be scanned needed to be for the camera to take the picture. He had it hooked up to a laptop and he was using OB 9 and he pressed the f4 key to start the scan and it just made the camera sound as heard on the Mobil phones and was quickly read back. He also said it would still work with xp users, a very nice padded leather case tubular shaped for the device as well. The portability of it makes it appealing and of course the price. It is compact and portable. You just unfold it, and it is positioned like a letter C with squared off corners when in position. It plugs into the computer via USB, and uses Open Book that way. Because of the position of the sections of the cane, one can place the document beneath the camera and tell Open Book to take a picture and read it. It has to use Open Book Version 9, which has not been released yet but will be soon, hopefully! It is about $2,200. by the time one buys the Pearl plus the Open Book application. Presently, Freedom Scientific is running a promotion where one can upgrade his present OpenBook for $150., and purchase the Pearl hardware for about $600. I think that promotion runs through July 15. Re: [Blind-Computing] comparison of pearl and eye-pal
This might be your solution. It was fast and the price plus the portability might be your idea choice. The Pearl is no bigger than a desk lamp very streamline would need to sit on top of a desk or other surface as for the height extension of the device it's self. A flat bed scanner with a lid needs a certain clearance to use as well anyways, but not portable as in this device. If that didn't suit your needs, then go for the NFB reader for your cell which does a pretty good job of scanning too, that doesn't get any more portable.. You can get that, as well as color identifier, Mobil speaks on a phone for $1200. - Original Message - From: Rick Watson rwat...@eckeranch.com To: blind-computing@jaws-users.com Sent: Thursday, July 08, 2010 10:47 AM Subject: Re: [Blind-Computing] comparison of pearl and eye-pal I'm debating about ordering the camera for now because the 600 price ends july 15. You might want to give your signatures a name associated to that particular one, instead of how it's named after creating it, which is usually signature #1, #2, #3, excetra... this way when you use the quick way of choosing one, you will know which one you want to use.. - Original Message - From: dan daniel_...@hotmail.co.uk To: blind-computing@jaws-users.com Sent: Tuesday, July 06, 2010 10:57 AM Subject: Re: [Blind-Computing] question about email signatures wow okay, thanks a lot. i'll try it I cried out with no reply And I can't feel You by my side So I'll hold tight to what I know You're here and Im never alone- barlowgirl For answers to frequently asked questions about this list visit: http://www.jaws-users.com/help/ For answers to frequently asked questions about this list visit: http://www.jaws-users.com/help/
Re: [Blind-Computing] Blind-Computing] question about email signatures
Well, if your using OE, alt t,o, control-tab to signature page and tab to new button and spacebar that, tab to the edit area paste or type in what ya want, tab to add or apply spacebar that. You can choose to have it added on all your emails or just for the reply, or as I choose to do, on none of them.. These will be named as signature #1 and so forth, if you don't like that, then tab to the rename button spacebar it, tab to the edit area of the signature and backspace out the signature #1 as in example here, type in what you want there, then tab to apply button and spacebar it. That's the gist of signatures, there's more stuff you can do if you want.. [Blind-Computing] IE 8 Issues
Happy 4th to everyone! I'm experiencing something here has me puzzled.. If I have my facebook page open and then open another site and then do the alt-tab to go back and forth, there's only one site there. Is this an IE 8 issue or a jaws update issue? I do not have the very latest jaws update but the one before that. I seem to remember it being ok as before updating, but not real sure now. I do know if I have OE open and alt tab from facebook to that, it's there, but another IE page site is not, so what am I doing wrong here? Re: [Blind-Computing] MULTIPLE COPIES OF E-MAIL MESSAGES
Good Morning, I have some known issues with one of my current list I'm on now with multi messages and bouncing. Sometimes it's the list's issue particularly if it's Yahoo groups and while the one I'm on currently is not a Yahoo group, I am told that it's because my ISP has limited port usage for this list. The strangest thing is, I still receive the emails and can post, but once a month, I get a email stating I am subject for removal due to the excessive bouncing. I have brought this matter to the list owner and for some odd reason, they don't know why it keeps occurring either. I also know when you sign up for lists, sometimes there's options to set your preferences to receive duplicated messages as well as an email notice of your list's most recent changes..i.e. new members. Then again it could be something windows related, who knows for sure. But now I'm getting 3 copies of every single message. Thank God it isn't on this list or on my Windows 7 list. That would be a real problem. Can anyone tell me if there's a solution to this? These steps sound long and tedious, but after doing it a couple of times you will get the hang of it. 1. Copy and paste the link you want to convert to the clipboard. 2. Go to your desktop and press enter on the FreeYouTubeToMP3Converter.exe. 3. With the converter open, tab 1 time and Jaws will say paste button. Press your spacebar and the link you had pasted to your clipboard earlier will be pasted into the converter. 4. Tab 1 more time and Jaws will read Output Folder. Pay attention to this because this is where you will find the link after it is finished being converted. 5. Tab 1 more time to Browse . Here you can browse to have the converted links place into a different folder when they are finished. 6. The next tab brings you to Output Name. Don't worry about this. The finished converted download will usually put the name of the song in for you. 7. Tab 1 more time and you are on Presets combobox. Here you will arrow up or down to choose what format you want the link converted into. You can convert the link into different formats to see which 1 sounds the best to you. I will explain how to do this later. 8. Tab 1 more time and you are on Options. You can press the spacebar on this to look and see what is in here to get more familiar with the program. Personally, I haven't changed anything in here. 9. Tab 1 more time and this is the Convert Button. Press the spacebar and the conversion will start. The link will be converted into what ever format you had selected in the Presets Combobox. 10. Jaws will tell you the percentages as the file is being converted. When it is finished you will hear Information Okay button. Press the spacebar. Then you will Hear Button okay and you will spacebar on this to finish. If you would like to convert

Hi Marilyn, You can press the shift key and down arrow to the books you want to move to the folder once they are selected that is.. Press control c/ to copy or control/x to cut and then open the folder and press control/v to paste them there. Alternatively, you can choose to have them downloaded directly into that folder when you start the download process, tab to where you save them at which probably is your docs, then shift tab to the list of folders in your docs highlight it, tab to the save button. save as means it will save in the same format it was downloaded as. if it's a .zipped extension, then it will be downloaded as such. You still have to unzip the book to read it though, and move it to something it can be played on, as in your NLS player. As far as it going to your documents, it's does this because you have chosen it to go there, but if for any reason you want it to go somewhere else, then after the first alt s is pressed on the download screen, tab to a drop down list of other choices to save it to, such as...desktop, a storage device, hard drive.. Cliff Smales - Original Message - From: Annette Carr amca...@verizon.net To: blind-computing@jaws-users.com Sent: Thursday, May 20, 2010 6:37 AM Subject: Re: [Blind-Computing] entering data im excel 2007 Interesting question. I never thought to ask it. I have found that If I know I want to hear the result in the cell where I just finished entering information, I press Tab and then Shift-Tab. My reason for doing this is that when pressing Enter, you do not know where it is going to put you. Most of the time it will just drop you to the cell immediately below the one you were just working in. However, sometimes it will put you elsewhere on the row below where you were working. Excel appears to try and learn your patterns. So if you are entering data in A1, B1, C1, and then A2, B2, C2, Excel will assume you want to place the next set of info starting in A3. You can also move out of a cell you are putting in data with the Down Arrow or Right arrow. If you are editing a cell's contents with F2, you will have to use the Tab or Enter to get out of the cell. Arrow keys do not work because you can use them inside the cell while you are editing the cell. I hope this makes sense and is helpful. Re: [Blind-Computing] THanks. nls figured out
Marilyn, Reading what I wrote here might seem unclear to you, so what I meant to say was, when you unzip a book it goes into it's own folder with the name of that book. The unzipped book remains in it's original format also listed. So you have 2 occurances of the book as folders listed on your desired drive. BARD suggest to keep the zipped one in case something happens to the one unzipped, and that way, you have it so as not to have to redownload it again. Maybe invest in an external hard drive to store books and the like? I think what they meant was, you didn't need a separate unzip program to unzip books that the one with window's would do the job. If the you have only one book on a cartridge then it will play automatically. But if you have more than one, you will have to use the bookshelf feature to move to the one on the cartridge you want to read. Hey, no one is a dummy here. Re: [Blind-Computing] Unzipping and Stripping*lol*
oops, I goofed, see I toldya I'm a dummy.. Your cartridge is showing as drive G, so that's where your book(s) is stored for your digital NLS player? For me it's drive F for the cartridge and drive J for the external hard drive. I think the stream's disk is associated to drive J as well. So if you downloaded the book to the cartridge it is only there, if you downloaded it first to your computer and then moved it to the cartridge, then it's on both, in case you didn't delete it. - Original Message - From: Patricia pzoell...@tx.rr.com To: blind-computing@jaws-users.com Sent: Thursday, May 20, 2010 3:34 PM Subject: [Blind-Computing] Unzipping and Stripping*lol* I'll probably get a big boot for that subject line, but what else goes with unzipping y'all? Did you install the software from your stream? The stream's software recognizes the nls zipped books. If the software from Humanware is installed on your computer, open it and a list will be provided of all the zipped books you have downloaded, up/down arrow through the list and spacebar the ones you want to unzip, tab to ok and it does it for ya. You can always put the second book on there when you are ready to use it. There should always be only one book at a time on the flash drive. Well, if some one would tell me how may I obtain a copy of an older version of Winzip, or how to get the latest version14.5, to work with unzipping NLS books? I would really be a happy camper. It appears that having the winzip program available helps the download of the NLS books to move along faster when using the open choice instead of the save when downloading the books. Hello, I'm not the world's authority on this subject, but depending on the version of excel your using this might differ and in all likelyhood there's probably another way to do this.. If it's a different day, you can put it in yourself. There's probably a way to add it in a column of rows all at once through the menus, but I haven't played round with that..
