While in Internet Explorer, press ALT + H , followed by the letter A. This will open the "About" Internet Explorer screen. Now, press the Jaws keystroke insert + B, and Jaws will read the information to you. Tab to the okay button and spacebar it when you are done. Hi Al, Keep in mind that if you copy the drivers from the XP system, they may not be compatible with Windows 7. Go to the computer manufacturer's website, and using your model number, look for Win7 compatible drivers for your hardware. I feel that is just asking to migrate any issues I've ever had on the XP box into the Win 7 OS. I favor a clean install over a freshly formatted drive. I believe in the past I had read of some software available that could be run on an existing OS and copy all necessary drivers to an export file or CD? Otherwise I don't know of any way to get the drivers off the factory restore disk. Hi Trish, I have found that version 11 works marginally, so 12 or higher should perform much better. I'm not quite sure what you are asking in regards to the 32 64-bit question, but it will have to match the operating system. Jaws won't install otherwise. This isn't for me, but for the sister who like I said, has win 7, she said her jaws is running staticy and I think she said she has version 11, which I said probably was the problem, but wanted to make sure I was telling her right. If memory serves me correctly, To play music files from the cartridge, you may need to create a folder named: audio+podcasts and put the files in it. You cannot shuffle the files playing, they will play in order. Hi Carliss, 2 things come to mind here, which I can't imagine happening without user participation, although I have seen stranger things happen with a computer. 1. The view in folder options has changed, or 2. the drives have been disabled. Look at the view first, here's how: 1. while in, "Computer", go to the tools menu, and then folder options, and hit enter. 2. you will be on the general tab, so shift tab once, and then right arrow once until you hear, View tab. 3. Tab to the tree-view, and then hit the letter H, and then down arrow to: Hide empty drives in the Computer folder This should be turned off, and the spacebar will toggle the state of this control. If you need to change this, do so, then tab to apply, and then okay to close the dialogue. Now, even if your computer view is set to category, the drives should show, unless they have been disabled. If you want to have everything in a list view, go to the view menu,and then down arrow to list, and if it is not checked, press enter to check it. Now, return to the view menu, and down arrow to, group by, and press enter, then arrow to none, and press enter again. Give this a try, and let us know what happens, then we can look at the other option. You will need to use software that will remove the vocals from a song, so your best bet would be a Google search for > karaoke programs. [Blind-Computing] Winamp Won't Play Next File in a Selected List
Recently a member posted about Winamp not playing the next file in a selected list of files automatically. It has been suggested that deleting the .ini file in the Winamp directory will correct this problem. I have encountered this problem before, but I didn't understand why it happened with no apparent reason. Well, here is the most likely cause, which is much simpler Winamp has a command for this particular behavior, and I discovered it while editing ID Tag information in Winamp. Winamp shares a command keystroke with Windows, which is Control + V I verified this in the following versions, 2.8, 5.04 and 5.62. Maybe because of screen echo settings with Jaws or otherwise,the user is not hearing this command when it is activated. I haven't looked for a way to disable this keystroke,so I don't even know at this point if that is possible. While in Winamp, if you look in the Playback sub-menu, you will find the command listed. Hi Steve, As far as disabling it, no, but I believe there is a.reg file that will allow you to change the frequency of the compaction. Personally, I just compact them manually once a week, since I don't receive an extraordinary amount of mail, and don't open OE alot in any given day. My advice to anyone using OE would be to manually compact the messages on a regular basis, avoiding the automatic compaction. As far as backing up the folders for OE,I simply back up the Documents and Settings folder every day, doing this gets me more than I need, but I get the important stuff in one sweep, like: OE identities Jaws settings Address book custom dictionary Desktop Favorites Start Menu, and the SendTo folder. I use Karen's Replicator to perform this job, and E-Backup to save the internal settings for OE. Mike, If you didn't find the place to turn off the desktop cleanup wizard, here it is: Go to the control panel, then display. Next, go to the desktop tab, and tab to customize desktop spacebar that, and then tab to the run desktop cleanup wizard every 60 days, and uncheck the box. Okay your way out of the dialogues. Hi Steve, That's interesting, never saw a laptop without an F/N key. Short of what Denny suggested, you could disable it in the BIOS, but that requires sighted help. If you have to go that route, you should have an external mouse handy in the event you need someone to click on something that your screen-reader can't access. Hi Tom, You didn't say which version of Windows you are using, but, if it is XP, then you have a 32-bit system, and with Windows Vista or 7, it could be either one. Which version you install will be determined by your system. If your system is 32-bit, then that is the version of Jaws you will need to install. Likewise with a 64-bit system. An easy way to determine the type of system you have is to do the following: 1. Press the Windows key + The Pause key, to open the system properties dialogue. The pause key is usually located near the top of the keyboardnext to the scroll lock key,but this will vary from keyboard to keyboard, especially with laptops. If you are not sure where the Pause key is, then turn your Jaws keyboard help on, with Insert + 1, on the number row, so Jaws will echo the keys as you press them. This is a toggle, so when you are finished, use the same keystroke to turn it off. 2. Route Jaws to Pc, and then arrow down to find the relevant information. Once you have what you need, press escape, or Alt F4 to close the properties dialogue. Hi Lenny, Yes, you can perform the initial setup with Narrator. It's certainly not going to be as fast as using Jaws, but you can get it done. 1. Boot the computer, and wait a minute or so. 2. Press the key combination, Windows + U, this will open the Ease of Access Center. 3. Now press the combination, Alt + N, to bring Narrator into focus. 4. Once you have Narrator talking, you can Alt Tab,around to find the dialogue for the initial setup. 5. Take your time, and listen closely, and input the proper info and you should be okay. Don't remember the dialogues word for word, but if you find a skip button, you can spacebar it, and complete the setup later with Jaws. Like I said, take your time, you'll get there. Hi Anna, You can try Recuva, which can be found at: http://www.blind-computing.com/file_utilities/pages/recuva.html Keep in mind, that it may not find all files if they have been overwritten too many times, and some of the files it finds may be partially over-written , which means some of the data you want may be lost. After the scan is complete, it will list the files it found, and give the condition of them. Hi Anna, You can delete the files in the Temp folder, if any of them are in use, by another program, then you will get a message telling you so. If you do get that message, just okay it, and they can probably be deleted at another time. Hi Becky, Be aware, that if you have a wireless printer, and the connection drops for some reason if you have to act on some message displayed on the printer's display, you will need sighted help. I opted for a network printer, that plugs into your router, and therefore is available to all computers on your home network. Hi Becky, Any new scanner should have drivers which should work with Windows 7. Epson, Canon, and Hp come to mind. I prefer a stand-alone scanner, haven't had much luck with all-in-ones and OpenBook, but no real problem with the software and Jaws once the installation is done. Hi Trish, Try plugging in a USB speaker, or headset. Windows and Jaws will take the last audio device installed as the default. If you get speech, then you can go back to where you made the change, and undo it. Hi Kimsan, Who is your internet service provider? Your out-going mail settings will vary depending on your ISP. My ISP is A T&T. The incoming setting I use for my GMail account is pop.gmail.com and the incoming port is 995. The out-going settings are for my ISP, not GMail. Mike, If I'm reading this correctly, The .Net 3.5 service pack shouldn't install, since it appears to already be installed. as to the other one, I wouldn't be to concerned since as I said before, it probably is not critical to Windows. If you search Microsoft for the kb number referenced with the update, it will explain the update. Hi Mark, The search box on my site is a custom Google search. Whatever search string you type in the box, will yield Google search results at the top of the list, and then the ones on my site. I would leave the empty folders alone,
sometimes Windows or other programs will create folders or files for a
specific reason
as part of their normal operation, and if those folders or files are not
there it can cause problems.

Setting up a new laptop, and the recovery media creator requires 5 DVD's using double-sided disks, I can get it done with 3. Double-sided disks are a great space-saver. As far as the keyboard and mouse updates, if you aren't having any problems, then you can disregard them. Hi Mark, If you have someone look at the drive for you, it should say whether it isIDE, or SATA. An IDE drive has a wide data cable and a SATA has a narrow one. Also, the drive will be one of two sizes, either 2.5 or 3.5, the latter being about 3/4 to 1 inch thick.
