[Blind-Computing] Email Problem

2010-02-06 Thread Jenny Dawson
Hi listers

Can anyone shed light on the problem this person is having? Email below.

I have a problem where I can't reply to or write to the list. I have just
set up my email accounts to go to Outlook and although I receive all the
emails from the two lists I'm subscribed to, when I reply my messages stay
in my outbox and an error comes up saying there is something wrong with my
outgoing smft address, but I've checked it and there doesn't seem to be
anything wrong. The weird thing is I can reply with my yahoo account to
other email addresses, just not lists and groups.
By the way I am writing to the list now directly through Yahoo and not
through Outlook. I've changed to Outlook so I can use JAWS more easily,
because Zoomtext is very straining on my eyes.
So has anyone got suggestions?

Regards
Jenny Dawson

2011-02-24 Thread John Justice
Hi anna, John here.
I work in International so it happens all of the time to me. Outlook
Express will ask permission to download a language pack so that it can show
a particular language with the correct punctuation, accents and so on. The
language pack is harmless. You probably received an e-mail with some
elements shown in another language. If it's legitimate, it won't hurt your
system at all.

[Blind-Computing] email submenu

2011-03-31 Thread kimsan
Hi,

Using windows seven pro 64 bit with jfw 11 and 12 I am trying to remember
how to change the following but cannot remember how.

I have an email option on the start menu but it says email sub menu and
shows the recent opened items of my emails. How do i get rid of this, so
that I can just hear email instead of email submenu?

This is one of those things that I did once before but forgot to note what I
did, so who ever provides an answer I will duely note it this go around.

Thanks.

[Blind-Computing] Email Problem

2009-01-26 Thread Donnie Parrett
My ISP is our local telephone company. I am finding that from time to time
there are 3 or 4 of the
national ISP's that will block PRTC (my local provider). For some reason they
recognize it as SPAM.
This causes a problem for the people who are with the ISP's who are doing this.
 I send out a couple
of daily emails, and when this occurs, they are not able to receive them.
Someone told me that
there might be some type of program that I could run in order to prevent this
from happening. If
anyone knows what I am talking about, please let me know. Any advice on this
subject will be
greatly appreciated.

Sorry only coming in now, but what version of outlook are you using?

Problem with outlook 2007, for example, is that it actually uses an embedded
word 2007 implementation to display HTML mails, so in order to get jaws
virtual buffer to work for them properly, the way to do it is open it in
internet explorer:
alt key, then followed by the H key, then the X key and lastly the V
key- all with a bit of a pause inbetween them.

This counts as opening the menu, going into extra options or something like
that, and then view in internet explorer.

This will open it in a new browser window, with the message still open in
the background.

This is specific to outlook 2007 and it's new menu system/structure.

About the author
After losing my sight three years ago to Retinitis Pigmentosa, I learned the
value of accessibility features in the computer programs and applications
that I use. Although learning to use a screen reader and a Braille display
was challenging, it paled in comparison to learning to use keyboard
shortcuts instead of the mouse. Many of the Microsoft tools that I use are
not completely accessible. That gave me the chance to learn how to write
small programs (scripts) that modify JAWS, my screen reader, and ignited a
spark in me to champion the importance of accessible features in tools and
applications. I became very passionate about accessibility guidelines, and I
have worked with several teams to make sure that applications are truly
accessible. Being involved in beta testing and writing this column is a
perfect way for me to communicate valuable information.

I began working for Microsoft as a Technical Editor. When my productivity
began to decline along with my eyesight, I lost my confidence and felt my
self esteem drop to an all-time low. I had to learn how to be productive,
yet retain what little sanity I had remaining. It was a challenge, but I did
it. Now, I want to share some of my experiences with you and support this

that, and then view in internet explorer.

This will open it in a new browser window, with the message still open in
the background.

This is specific to outlook 2007 and it's new menu system/structure.

Stay well

Hi, sorry I will keep looking.
Here is something you can read for now.
Making sense of HTML messages in Outlook 2007
Applies to: Microsoft Office Outlook 2007
 02/15/2008

Rowena Portch (Accessibility Advocate)

You sit down with your morning cup of coffee and eagerly anticipate reading
your favorite newsletter. You open the e-mail message in Outlook 2007 and
wait for your screen reader to read the information. However, all you hear
is, "Table, table." With a sigh, you try to get your screen reader to read
the contents of that table, but the information that you hear doesn't make
sense. Don't fear, there is a solution!

Applies to
Microsoft Office Outlook 2007

Some e-mail messages that are created by using HTML are difficult for some
screen readers to read, especially if tables are used. The reason this
occurs is partly because Outlook uses Microsoft Office Word 2007 to
translate hypertext markup language (HTML), instead of using your browser,
and partly because of the screen reader's ability to understand the elements
that are on the page. Because Word only supports a part of what HTML offers,
the content that is displayed might not look the way that it was designed.
For example, you might subscribe to a newsletter that is delivered to your
Inbox. When you open the e-mail message, screen readers, such as JAWS, reads
"Table, table." When you try to read the information in the table, JAWS
continues to report that there is a table, but does not read the contents of
the table. If you are a sighted user, the information in the e-mail message
might not look as aesthetically pleasing as the sender had intended. If you
are a visually impaired person, the content in the table is completely
invisible and unreadable.

The good news is that there is a workaround if you encounter an HTML e-mail
message that your screen reader cannot understand. The following procedure
only works for HTML e-mail messages, such as newsletters.

Open the e-mail message in Outlook 2007.
To view the e-mail message in a browser, press ALT, H, X, V.
If a dialog box appears, and to make sure that it does not display every
time that you view an e-mail message in a browser, press TAB until the
Please do not show me this dialog again check box is active, press SPACEBAR
to select it, and then press ENTER.
To return to your e-mail message, close the browser by pressing ALT+F4.
Note If you are using Windows Internet Explorer 7 and have multiple
windows open, press CTRL+W to close the active window. Press ALT+TAB to
return to your open e-mail message.

Because you cannot view the information in the e-mail message in a browser
by default, you must repeat these steps to read any HTML e-mail message that
your screen reader cannot read. Personally, I have a hard time remembering
the keyboard shortcuts used by the new Microsoft Office programs. As a
result, I speak to my computer by using accessibility tools, instead of
using the keyboard. When I open an HTML e-mail message that JAWS cannot
interpret, I simply say, "View in browser," and voila, the e-mail message
displays in a browser. The tools that I use are JAWS, Dragon Naturally
Speaking, and J-Say Pro. I will talk about these tools in detail in my next
article.

Why is Outlook 2007 using Word 2007 to display HTML?
In earlier versions of Outlook, you could use Word to compose and edit
e-mail messages and use a browser to display HTML e-mail messages.
Unfortunately, the HTML e-mail messages that were created by using Word
looked very different from the e-mail messages that were displayed in a
browser. This was because the earlier versions of Word did not support all
the features that HTML offers. For most users, it was undesirable to use one
application to create e-mail messages and another to read them. Because
browsers are not designed to be text editors, Word 2007 was the most logical
program to use for both creating and reading e-mail messages. Word 2007 does
a good job with most HTML content, but it does present some limitations.

The following features are not supported by Word 2007:

Background images
Flash or other plug-ins
Cascade style sheets (CSS) positioning
Forms
CSS floats
Animated Graphics Interchange Format (GIF) images
Bullet images

HTML authoring tips
For those of you who enjoy composing HTML e-mail messages, there is hope.
Microsoft has created a useful tool that checks for valid and supported HTML
before you send an HTML e-mail message. To download the tool, go to HTML
tool for e-mail messages.

Microsoft continues to invest in HTML and CSS support based on customer
feedback and work

First, the only dumb question is the unasked one. To answer yours though,
yes, that persona really sent that message at 3:30 in the morning. Keep in
mind however, that different time zones can affect what time it is. I
believe it is your time, not the senders that is being refferred to. I
could be wrong about that last part, but I think that's how it goes.

Thanks Melissa!
That was one of those questions in the back of my head and I could've

The person who sent the email at 3 in the morning lives in Washington state

It could be that the email was time stamped on receipt by your mail server,
by their mail client software, etc. etc.

OTOH, if I send you a message now - 7:18PM this side, your mail server could
be receiving it around 12:PM etc., but I think generally mail software
timestamps the messages, but then if I sent it from something like a GMail
account, they might not know what time it was this side...

In other words, it might be that they sent it at 3:30 in the morning, but it
might not.

I think on average though it means their computer thought that was the time
when it was sent.

Hello there;

I'm assuming you want the,
notify.wav, instead of the new mail notification.

1, start menu,

2, s=setting, then enter on control panel.

3, s=sounds, press enter.

4, ctrl+tab=sounds tab

5, now tab until you hear,
tree-view, you should be at the top of the list.

6, down arrow until you hear,
new mail notification,

7, now tab to browse, and press enter.

8, now tab until you hear,
chimes.wav

9, now arrow down until you hear,
notify.wav,

10, now tab, and spacebar on, play button,

if this is the sound you wish to have,
you need to enter on the okay button,
then again, tab and enter on the okay button, this will add the sound to
your current sound scheme.

hope this helps.

I would place the new sound in the Windows\Media folder along with the other
event sounds for Windows.

Just a thought.

hello there;

okay, if you want to use a sound witch you've downloaded, or, have
received from someone,

example; you got post

then, you would follow steps,
1 through 7,

now, when you browse, you would look for the folder which has the sound.
open the folder,
highlight the sound, now, you can associate this sound with the email
notification,

hope this helps.

if your unable to get this, then, I'll provide other steps.

Hello there;

I'm assuming you want the,
notify.wav, instead of the new mail notification.

1, start menu,

2, s=setting, then enter on control panel.

3, s=sounds, press enter.

4, ctrl+tab=sounds tab

5, now tab until you hear,
tree-view, you should be at the top of the list.

6, down arrow until you hear,
new mail notification,

i>> 7, now tab to browse, and press enter.

8, now tab until you hear,
chimes.wav

9, now arrow down until you hear,
notify.wav,

10, now tab, and spacebar on, play button,

if this is the sound you wish to have,
you need to enter on the okay button,
then again, tab and enter on the okay button, this will add the sound to
your current sound scheme.

hope this helps.

Hi David;

Just to add 1 note to your steps of adding a sound to a an existing sound
scheme. Once the sound is added to the sound scheme, it will have to be
saved with a different name other than the name of the original sound
scheme

that was altered. So Yvonne or anyone else adding sounds to your sound
scheme, after you have finished adding your sound / sounds and you are
asked
to save, select yes and use your firrst name, as an example, to name the
new
sound scheme, then tab to apply, spacebar, and finally tab to okay and
press

enter / spacebar. If I am incorrect about the additional saving step,
someone please correct me. I only state this because I have had to do
this

many times when altering sound schemes. Hope this helps. Take care.

you should see the new sound file in the list.

to

your current sound scheme.

then, you would follow steps,

now, when you browse, you would look for the folder which has the sound.

Hi David;

Just to add 1 note to your steps of adding a sound to a an existing sound
scheme. Once the sound is added to the sound scheme, it will have to be
saved with a different name other than the name of the original sound scheme
that was altered. So Yvonne or anyone else adding sounds to your sound
scheme, after you have finished adding your sound / sounds and you are asked
to save, select yes and use your firrst name, as an example, to name the new
sound scheme, then tab to apply, spacebar, and finally tab to okay and press
enter / spacebar. If I am incorrect about the additional saving step,
someone please correct me. I only state this because I have had to do this
many times when altering sound schemes. Hope this helps. Take care.

Hello Rick;

yes I totally agree,
I wasn't sure, at first that,
Yvonne was using a non windows sound choice.

so, Yvonne,

try the following;

1, navigate to the folder, or, the sound file you wish to use for your email
notification.

2, once you've found the file, highlight and copy to clipboard.

3, go to desktop,

4, enter on my computer,

you should see the new sound file in the list.

hello there;

okay, if you want to use a sound witch you've downloaded, or, have
received from someone,

example; you got post

then, you would follow steps,
1 through 7,

now, when you browse, you would look for the folder which has the sound.
open the folder,
highlight the sound, now, you can associate this sound with the email
notification,

hope this helps.

if your unable to get this, then, I'll provide other steps.

Hello Rick;

yes I totally agree,
I wasn't sure, at first that,
Yvonne was using a non windows sound choice.

so, Yvonne,

try the following;

1, navigate to the folder, or, the sound file you wish to use for your
email notification.

2, once you've found the file, highlight and copy to clipboard.

3, go to desktop,

4, enter on my computer,

5, enter on local disc "c",

6, press the letter "w", until you hear windows, press enter.

7, press the letter "m"=media, press enter.

8, now paste the file from clipboard.

you should see the new sound file in the list.
alt+f4 to close.

now, to change the email notification sound in your sound scheme,
do the following;

example; you got post

   >

1, start menu,

2, s=setting, then enter on control panel.

3, s=sounds&audio, press enter.

4, ctrl+tab=sounds tab

5, now tab until you hear,
tree-view, you should be at the top of the list.

6, down arrow until you hear,
new mail notification,

>> 7, now tab to browse, and press enter.

8, now tab until you hear,
chimes.wav

9, now arrow down until you hear,

  yougotpost.wav

or, what ever the name of the sound is;

10, now tab, and spacebar on, play button,

if this is the sound you wish to have,
you need to enter on the okay button,
then again, tab and enter on the okay button, this will add the sound
to your current sound scheme.

hello there;

okay, if you want to use a sound witch you've downloaded, or, have
received from someone,
example; you got post

then, you would follow steps,
1 through 7,

now, when you browse, you would look for the folder which has the
sound.
open the folder,
highlight the sound, now, you can associate this sound with the email
notification,

hope this helps.

if your unable to get this, then, I'll provide other steps.

2011-09-09 Thread joluland

Hi David,

I've tried to subscribe to the new list you created many times, but to no
avail. I keep getting a message from Yahoo that my registration failed.
Since I'm on a number of lists at yahoogroups.com, I assume I'm already
registered; or am I incorrect? Nevertheless, it just won't accept my
password. Do you have any suggestions? I have some problems regarding wlm,
but now I won't post them on any list since it appears wlm is ot for most
lists. Thanks for any help you can give.

Jo

on my external, of emails I have collected. You could either save them as

Hi Jerry,
No, you can not copy and paste messages from Windows Mail to a folder
outside of the program.
This is also true of Outlook Express.
However, you can export messages from Windows Mail to another folder on the
hard drive using the export wizard.
Now, having said that, here is the catch.
The folder you are exporting to must be empty,
and the file names will contain letters and numbers with the .eml extension.
I haven't tried this yet, but you might try saving the messages with a new
name, before exporting them.
The folder which has the focus at the time you run the export wizard, is the
one which will be exported.

I second that, it works great; I also go to file menu/save as and save the
emails as .EML that's also supported in OE and Windows Live Mail, then they
open in the email clients; this way you can name the files as you wish and
save anywhere on an external drive independently on the system one so
nothing can get lost then if something happens with the system.

Hi Matthew,
Apparently, you did not read the original message closely.
Copy and cut are different than Save As,.
We are not talking about text from a message, we are talking about entire
messages,
which can not be copied or cut from the program, and moved elsewhere on the
hard drive.
Now, as you stated, they can be saved, using the save as, dialogue, but you
didn't mention that this is a message by message basis.
It is important that those on the list with less experience and knowledge
understand
that there is a difference, and when certain actions don't apply.
I'm sorry that you didn't understand my original response, because it was
quite clear in respect to what I was explaining,
I wrote it as I was looking at the options, and not going from memory.

It's no longer supported , but still chugs
along with no issues in Win7. If you do use
it,don't use version 8 though as it is not the real Eudora underneath.

Eudora 7,.x is still very doable and simple.
There is an email list for it as well for blind users.

Hi Niamh,
You can try the following, it is a registry tweak for Windows Mail:

http://www.jaws-users.com/programs/Email/WinMail.exe

I use this on my Win7 box, and have installed it on several other systems
with no problems,
however, as with making any system changes, I would advise creating a
restore point before proceeding.

1. Open the tools menu.
2. Open accounts.
3. Arrow to the account you want as the default, tab to and activate the set

Hope this helps.

Re: [Blind-Computing] Email Question

2008-08-10 Thread David Ferrin
No, you're not allowed to have another email account if it is simple to use.
You must have one that is a pain to own and operate. Let me give it some
further thought and see what I can come up with. Actually of those you
mentioned I would choose Yahoo. Now the free accounts are a bit of a problem
the paid accounts work nice and smoothly. They're only if memory serves $20
a year. I might even come up with another option since you are Reverend
Parrot.

I am wanting to have an alternate email account. Of the one's such as
Hotmail, MSN, GMail, Yahoo
and so on, which is the most blind friendly and dependable? If there are
any more email programs
that I did not mention that you would suggest, please let me know. I am
wanting something very easy

No, you're not allowed to have another email account if it is simple to use.
You must have one that is a pain to own and operate. Let me give it some
further thought and see what I can come up with. Actually of those you
mentioned I would choose Yahoo. Now the free accounts are a bit of a problem
the paid accounts work nice and smoothly. They're only if memory serves $20

Re: [Blind-Computing] Email Question

2008-08-10 Thread Steve
hello Donny, I use gmail too and it works fine.
There is a gmail configuration tool that you could download and run that
makes setting up pop3 a breeze.
Go for it, and I think with webvisum, the immage capture could be dasily
solved if you don't have sighted help. Fortunately for me, I have sighted
help.
