RE: Weird 404 error

2002-01-21 Thread howard

Jim:

Q 1: Initially, I thought just when posting a form. But an e-mail tonight
makes me wonder if even just clicking on a link within this section causes a
problem. The can get to the site and navigate and use the site normally
except for this one critical section.

Q 2: Everything's on the same server/same domain.

Q 3: No SSL. All standard HTTP.

When you say routing or DNS problem -- on our end (there server end) or on
the DSL (client) end? As I mentioned, fairly recently, they changed DSL
providers.

Sounds like either a routing or a dns problem. Do you mean that they can
get to the site, but only when they post a form they get the error? Are
both the update form and the target (form action) both on the same server
and the in the same domain? Is HTTP/SSL being used anywhere?

CF/Crystal Reports Prob

2002-01-21 Thread Gregory Harris

Perhaps someone can help me with a more direct question, how do I pass a
parameter variable from CFREPORT into Crystal Reports 8.5. Specifically in
Crystal Reports I have parameter variables StartDate and EndDate and I'd
like to pass them from CFREPORT in looking something like this

StartDate = 1/20/2001
EndDate = 1/20/2002

Or something like that. Any ideas and thanks!

True. "CFX_TCPClient" was the first incarnation of TCPClient as a CFX.
It worked... but it was a little buggy and rather hard to work with.

The second time around (2.x) I made it into a COM object... The COM's
had much hardier bug-testing, operates smoother and in general takes
much less code to get something to work. (Another big plus is you can
use it in ASP as well as CF if you're in a mixed environment.)

I'd suggest the COM unless you're just alergic to them. :)

Re: CFAPPLICATION question.

2002-01-21 Thread David Schmidt

Steven,

If I understand this correctly, as long as the parent Application.cfm (or
other file containing the cfapplication tag) is included in the page
request, it will keep from timing out. For example, given this structure...

\parentapp\Application.cfm
\parentapp\subapp\Application.cfm

If the subapps Application.cfm file looks like this...

Then you will be ok as long as you do not want to share variables. One word
of caution though - I have noted that too many layers of files containing
 tags could cause performance hits.

copy the DLL to some suitable subdir under cfusion
install (say c:\cfusion\cfx for example). go to cfadmin &
register that tag from the cfx menu choice.

um you also should look at lewis' COM stuff too.

The particular applications that I am working on have seperate CFAPPLICAT

is the second CFApp nested within the first? If they are nested, does th

No, normal browsers don't support WML. (WAP is the transport protocol, not
the language; WAP is to WML what HTTP is to HTML, to slightly oversimplify.)

Make sure that you've properly set the file permissions. Your CFM files must
be executable by the users you want to run them through IIS (typically, this
means the IIS anonymous user IUSR_YOURMACHINENAMEHERE). They must be
readable by the account or security context in which the CF service runs
(typically, SYSTEM). Finally - and this is the part that's probably causing
your problem - the ISAPI extension used by CF needs to allow read/execute by
your IIS users. This file is typically c:\cfusion\bin\iscf.dll. Your best
bet is to allow authenticated users read/execute on this file.

All users denied access apart from Administrators

2002-01-21 Thread Doug

Hi,

I have a cf 5.0 server running on IIS win 2000.
I am able to load html pages as any user but only Administrators are able to
load
cf pages. I have tried resetting the security via the iis admin plug in but
is seems to
have no effect.

Has seen this behaviour before ?

Doug.

get to the site, but only when they post a form they get the error? Are
both the update form and the target (form action) both on the same server

Weird 404 error

2002-01-21 Thread howard

I have a client with a business in Hawaii (I'm in California). The site has
been working just fine until last week.

Now when they try to update records, they get a 404 error. I can't
duplicate this. I've tried doing exactly what they try to do. I've tried
every way I can think of to try and duplicate the error and I can't.

Any guesses as to why they would get a 404 error and I wouldn't.

They have both a Mac and a PC on site. They get errors with both machines.

The only variable that's changed, that I know of, is that at some point they
changed DSL providers. I can't see why that would make a difference for this
kind of error, but ... I can't imagine what else the issue might be. It's
worked fine for nearly two years.

If you are a Cold Fusion programmer (or know of one) based close to Waikiki,
let me know. I might have some work for you with this client, particularly
in helping to troubleshoot this problem. Send me your resume. Please write
to me privately at [EMAIL PROTECTED]

H.

No, normal browsers don't support WML. (WAP is the transport protocol, not
the language; WAP is to WML what HTTP is to HTML, to slightly oversimplify.)

Mark,

If someone creates an application within an application, they don't nee
application.cfm as CF will search backwards till it finds one. The only
reason you would cfinclude a previous application.cfm is to make it part
of the same original session for the user.

But as you said If there is a different cfapplication used with a
different name then you ende up with not being able to share variables
scopes at all

Steve,

In my experience, if they both have separate tags with
separately named applications, you are actually dealing with 2 different
scopes - however if you are doing a cfinclude of the first
application.cf
m
file in the second (sub) application.cfm file, and there is only one
tag, they are sharing the same application scope. If
you
include an application.cfm file in the inner (sub) directory that does
N
OT
have a cfapplication tag in it, you are NOT still in the prior
applicatio
n
scope - instead you are without an application scope altogether (because
there is no running). At least that is how I
understand
it. Someone else could perhaps shed a bit more light.

Can answer this for me? Will users in a sub-application keep the outer
application from timing out?

Here is an example:

I have a CF application that user log into an then have the option to
log into a sub application. The sub application is actually in a
subdirectory off of the main application. The outer application has a
timeout of 10 minutes. The inner application also has a timeout of 10
minutes. While the users are clicking away in the sub-app are the
clicks stopping the outer app from timing out or will the have to log
back in after 10 minutes are up and they finally decide to click the
link back to the main application?

RE: CFAPPLICATION question.

2002-01-21 Thread Brendan Avery

if you switch between two different tags, you can
effectively go back and forth between multiple sets of session and
application variables within the same request, allowing you to pull in
some
values from one app into another, like if you have an application.dsn
that
you want to use from one app in another related/sub-app.

hurrah. now you have all three dsn or whatever.

cf_oanda

2002-01-21 Thread Kay Smoljak

Hi all,

I have been using the custom tag cf_oanda on a couple of sites - it gets
currency exchange rates from oanda. According to the tag, it uses the
proprietary protocol fxp/1.2 and it's legal to use it as long as you put
a link to oanda.com on your site.

At the beginning of January the tag stopped working, on two separate
servers (one is my web host's). It just times out instead of returning
anything. Does anyone know if oanda has changed their protocol, or the
way in which it works? Is anyone using anything different?

Thanks,
Kay.

RE: CFStoredProc vs CFQUERY

2002-01-21 Thread Shawn Grover

Use the CFPROCRESULT name="MyQueryObject" inside the CFSTOREDPROC
tags
(normally the last one specified)...

Using cfstoredproc tags eliminates a bunch of errors - in the CFQuery
call,
how do you know the Date is a proper format? the cfprocparam tags
handle
any neccessary conversion (within reason) for you.

Also, with cfstoredproc, you can have multiple recordsets returned, and
have
access to the Stored Procedures return value. You can't do that with
CFQuery.

Does anyone have the JavaScript to change the style: background-color on
an input box. Like if someone tabs or clicks on it, it will be
highlighted then when they get off of it, it will change back to white.

If you can get any info on that please let me know. I am trying to get
all the old code complete (I am actually still continuing development)

RE: Verity Question

2002-01-21 Thread jon

I don't think it logs directly, but it's actually pretty worthwhile to log
all that stuff in a db. The advantage of the DB is that you can build a
simple interface that'll show you what users found in a single click from
the search term list...

Now, does anyone have a good way to correct misspellings? We try to compare
the search terms of a search that returns 0 items with the soundex values of
a dictionary of medical terms we loaded in, but that only works for single
word queries...

Not to my knowledge. What you could do is on the search action page (where
you call CFSEARCH, do a simple DB insert of the search terms... Or use the
NIFTY CFLOG tag, which is new to CF5, to create a running log of all the
search terms that are tried...

Speaking of that.. Thanks for reminding me that I've been wanting to do that
on my own site for quite some time

Re: cf sites go poof

2002-01-21 Thread Michael Dinowitz

icesinc.com went wy down owing me money and such. If your looking for
 nate's site try nateweiss.com
cflinux.org was set up during the hype of the new linux release and was
basically limited to a presentation I gave on CF to a linux users groups
(CF on linux). I don't know where the site is nor the presentation tape.
I'll look around as I'm sure Jesse would like it.
Don't know why forumspot is dead. I'll have to ask Rob. It was supposed to
be a 'open source' place for the old CF forums. It disappearing only lends
credibility to peoples claims of 'abandonware'.
cfmentor seems to be up but cftutorials is not. Stephan was rather upset
with MM the same way (and for the same reasons) that I was. His main site
(cfvault.com) looks like its coasting. Same with Duncan and defusion (he's
looking to sell the site and content for anyone interested).
I'm not going to rehash the whole MM community interaction thing especially
when I'm supposed to be speaking with them about how to make it better
(eventually). A number of people got upset with various things that
happened and have either stopped using CF, left the community or other
 things.
On that note, anyone who is looking to leave for whatever reason and can't
be talked out of it, please work out some way for your content to be
preserved. I'd be quite happy to put it on HoF as would others. There's
still old papers on www.oacfug.org that I wanted and can't get to anymore.

Can't help with this one but I have the same problem - I was looking for the
Yellow Pages one from Netfast but the link is dead - I tried the email

to sweep the dev database every so often looking for dead links because its
frustrating.

If MM are watching this board perhaps they could pass the suggestion on.

Hi all,

Sorry for this kind of OT posting. I've been looking to get hold of a copy
of the above application which was created by Manish Gupta and is listed in
the developer's exchange, unfortunately with dead links.

It's a rather old applicaton, last modified in June 1999 according to the
dev exchange, so if anyone has a copy, or perhaps contact details for MR.
Gupta himself, I would appreciate the info.

TIA,
Dave

ColdFusion/Crystal Reports question

Perhaps someone can help me with a more direct question, how do I pass a
parameter variable from CFREPORT into Crystal Reports 8.5. Specifically in
Crystal Reports I have parameter variables StartDate and EndDate and I'd
like to pass them from CFREPORT in looking something like this

StartDate = 1/20/2001
EndDate = 1/20/2002

Or something like that. Any ideas and thanks!

Look into WDDX, CFML2JS will create an array of all of your values for
you.

Something like

That will result in

You'll need to include wddx.js which is in your cfide/scripts folder.

RE: Coldfusion Server

2002-01-21 Thread Brendan Avery

actually i have seen large files or large multi-file set uploads cause
coldfusion to go right to 100% CPU usage. usually after 15 minutes or
so
you'll get a winnt error returned about "unable to write file" or some
other
bs. our machines usually start hating around 40 megs using cf and
apache.
sometimes less using cf and iis. the truth is that CFFILE uploads, at
least
on windows boxes, are very poor performance and are not a good choice
for
large volume file-upload applications. there is actually nothing you
can do
about it except weep and then implement your user file-uploads some
other
way (like through asp, or java). maybe cf5 handles it better; i dunno.
maybe if macromedia came out with their own webserver they could fix
it. we
use software artisans 'sa-fileup' to handle our file uploads in large
volumes in excess of 200 megs with no problem. you can even build a

RE: CFContent Delete File Error

Yeah I had that same problem. You need to go into the security settings
of the folder where the files are stored, and set it so IIS users can
modify files.

RE: Coldfusion Server

2002-01-21 Thread Carlisle, Eric

Also check the /cfusion/mail directory for 0 byte spool files (or any
malformatted spool file). If you feed the spooler directory anything
other
than a perfect spool file and the processor will spike to 100%. Once
in a
while, ColdFusion can spit out one of these 0 byte files.

If that's the case, delete any 0 byte (or malformatted) spool file and
restart services.

Good luck!

RE: Coldfusion Server

2002-01-21 Thread Brunt, Michael

Chad, I have never yet seen any file large enough to consume 100% CPU usage
but I have seen many 100% CPU usage issues. I would say that this is almost
certainly related to shared scope variable memory corruption. However,
before sending off on a wild goose chase, here is what I suggest. Look in
the ColdFusion logs mainly the Application and Server logs and do a search
for words or strings such as "thread" "threading" "unexpected error" "p code
error". If you find regular occurrences of such words and phrases you have
shared-scope-variable problems. ColdFusion being a multi-threaded
environment needs all shared-scope variable reads and writes to be locked
using the CFLock tag. So any application. session. or server. variable
settings or reads need to be locked. If you have immense site(s) with many
many pages the best way to deal with this problem is again to use the logs
to isolate which ColdFusion files are causing the errors and use CFLock
there first.

I hope this helps.

If you are using Access as a database and have an ols version of MDAC (Microsoft Data
Access
Components) then that can cause that issues to arise. That MDAC bug was solved quite
a while ago
and then re-introduced around the time IE 5 came out. As long as your server has IE
5.5 or better
you should be fine (youcan also go to MS and get the latest version).

RE: Verity Question

2002-01-21 Thread Garza, Jeff

Not to my knowledge. What you could do is on the search action page (where
you call CFSEARCH, do a simple DB insert of the search terms... Or use the
NIFTY CFLOG tag, which is new to CF5, to create a running log of all the
search terms that are tried...

Speaking of that.. Thanks for reminding me that I've been wanting to do that
on my own site for quite some time

HTH,

Jeff

RE: Query output in a form question

2002-01-21 Thread Steve Oliver

I'm not sure what you mean, do you just want to pass the Item ID of an
item with a radio input next to it? If so just do something like this.

 #ItemName#

Then the value of FORM.Item on the next page will be your itemID.

Hello, I have a db table that im querying into an html form table. I
would like have an input field linked to each entry in the database. So
that on submit it will only show the choices that were checked with a
radio button or something. Is this possible?

Here is the information that Im wanting to carry over to the second form
page. Where the number of items in the database is about 25 items. So
that if they only click on the radio button for say item 21 on the
second page it will pull all of the inputs from the top table and only
item number 21 from the second table.

Thanks in Advance. Paul Schwartz

Browser Detection UDF

2002-01-21 Thread Russel Madere

Does anyone have a UDF that will detect the type and version of a user's
browser?

I checks CFLib.org and could not find one. I can probably write one, but I
need the time to do it and it is outside of the domain of the current
application I am working on.

RE: sessions (further clarification)

2002-01-21 Thread Brendan Avery

what it really means is that you have an assignment somewhere, either
through a cfparam or complex cfset statement where coldfusion has
created a
temporary storage item (the variable named
"CFTempOnlyForSetVariableNeverUseThisNameInYourCFMLCode122333565
4321
") and an error occurred trying to copy that data into your variable.
this
usually happens when your variable is either an array dimension that
doesn't
exist as in the case of:

if mybooty is not an array, you'll get the same error. also as the
session
scope is only available when cfapplication sez so, you'll get the same
error
if you try to cfparam session variables.

If you can see the connection in the system DNS setup, then I'm sure you
have MyODBC drivers installed.
You need to put in a few variables.

Windows DNS name: (the odbc name you want)
MySQL host: (localhost if it's on your computer)
MySQL database name: (the exact name of your dbase in mySQL)
User: (the username you gave when installing mysql)
Password: (the password you gave)
Port: (3306 is default, you may have to put that in)

Other then that theres all of the check boxes, but I never check any of
them and it works fine.

One other thing is to make sure that MySQL is up and running, if you
have MySQLAdmin you can test it.

There is supposed to be a knowledge base article detailing configuration
issues that can cause error 111 messages to be displayed under Linux. The

ColdFusion Linux configuration issue

2002-01-21 Thread Zac Belado

There is supposed to be a knowledge base article detailing configuration
issues that can cause error 111 messages to be displayed under Linux. The
article in question appears to have been removed or hasn't been completed
(despite an Oct 2001 published arrival date).

Does anyone know if this article (TechNote 21912)was ever completed or does
anyone have any pointers to any material that could help diagnose this
misconfiguration?

RE: Problems with looping

2002-01-21 Thread Steve Oliver

Why not try a join instead of multiple queries?

Something like:

Select SUM(RegHrs) AS TotalHours FROM TblMainEntry,TblDetailEntry,
Empl_General
WHERE TblMainEntry.EmpID = Empl_General.Employee_ID
AND tblDetailEntry.RecordDate = to_date('#currentdate#','mm/dd/')

I'm not sure exactly what you want, but I'm sure you could get the same
results with a few joins instead of doing multiple queries in a loop.

Hey all,

I tried the two solutions offered, end neither of them worked.

The code is still only cycling over the first employee and simply not
moving to any other employee in the database. I'm at a complete loss as
to why, since the logic should be sound.

This is because you always access the first record from the outer loop
in the inner loop. Solution in your code below!

Hey all!

Take a look at this code.

The idea of course, is to loop through all the employees in the table
and run a particular query against each employee.

___

Select Employee_ID FROM Empl_General

Select SUM(RegHrs) AS TotalHours FROM
TblMainEntry,TblDetailEntry

RE: Capture Output from CFINCLUDE?

2002-01-21 Thread Steve Oliver

I tried this to test it.

Body stuff...

It works fine, all of the cfml in the header and footer was executed in
the email I received.

Try using another method to validate the email addresses, there are
several custom tags out there, or you could just use regular
expressions.

I guess I should have revealed more. ;)

Like most solutions out there that "modularized" the look and feel of a
website, there are two CFINCLUDEs to every template that takes care of
encapsulating a script's logic (shielding the "programmer" from the look
and feel stuff). CFINCLUDE are typically chosen over CFMODULE due to the
lower overhead (since you will be needing the look and feel for almost
all pages).

Now, I want to perform "Send this page to a friend" kinda thing. The
simplest thing to do is to:

[cfmail ... Blah ...]
  [cfinclude template="top.cfm"]
.. Do other stuff here ..
  [cfinclude template="bottom.cfm"]
[/cfmail]

I am not even sure if this works. :) Then, to complicate things, due to
certain requirements that email addresses should be checked for format
correctness (abiding RFC rules), the CFMAIL call is encapsulated within
a custom tag that performs email address syntax/format validation.
Hence, something crude like this happens:

[cf_MySendMail ... Blah ...][cfoutput]
  [cfinclude template="top.cfm"]
.. Do other stuff here ..
  [cfinclude template="bottom.cfm"]
[/cfoutput][/cf_MySendMail]

The CFOUTPUT is there to mimic CFMAIL's # behaviors. At the execution of
[/cf_MySendMail], ThisTag.GeneratedContent is used as the content of
CFMAIL. It is also set to empty string AFTER the call to CFMAIL (a la
CFSILENT).

Hence, my dilemma. I do not wish to use CFHTTP as suggested by Bill
Cravens. It is not a scalable solution on a high visibility and high
traffic site. And of course, I have tried CFSAVECONTENT with the two
cfincludes in it but still no go.

Furthermore, modifying the cfincluded template is not an option as it
throws my assigned task out of scope (for now).

If there is no way to do this, then, so be it. I want to know. :)

I hope this clears things up. :)

Thanks.

I'm assuming you want nothing returned then if the value is 0?
Why not just use a cfif?

Subject: Receive CFQUERY results in dollar format

I'm trying to write a CFQUERY statement that will take data from a
Microsoft Access 2000 database and return the numeric value as dollar
value. I have tried using DOLLARFORMAT in the CFOUTPUT statement but I
have six different pricing columns based on the product size and the
empty columns/rows show $0.00 if the DOLLARFORMAT command is used.

The Microsoft Access database columns are formatted as follows: FIELD
SIZE: Long Integer
FORMAT: Fixed
Decimal Places: 2

This is what I have thus far for the CFQUERY:

SELECT SPECIES,
DESCRIPTION,
SIZE_A, PRICE_A1, PRICE_A2
SIZE_B, PRICE_B1, PRICE_B2
SIZE_C, PRICE_C1, PRICE_C2
FROM ProductTable
ORDER BY SPECIES

Thanks in advance...
Kent

You cannot change the border properties of a select box widget in any
browser other than Mozilla. You can fake it though, by creating a drop down
like effect with layers. Go here

Send an HTTP 401 statuscode to the browser. An unpolished form of a
customtag can be downloaded from
http://jochem.vandieten.net/coldfusion/customtags/login/

I would strongly recommend reading RFC 2616 and 2617 if you want to try
this in production because there are some inherent drawbacks of the
mechanism.

Structures vs. 'flat' variables

2002-01-21 Thread Gyrus

In setting global variables in Application.cfm, how would
this:

request.DB = StructNew();
request.DB.DSN = "datasource";
request.DB.type = "ODBC";
request.DB.username = "admin";
request.DB.password = "password";

compare to this:

request.DB-DSN = "datasource";
request.DB-type = "ODBC";
request.DB-username = "admin";
request.DB-password = "password";

in terms of speed, memory usage, etc. I'm trying to minimise
the impact of all the request vars that are set on every
request. Is there a negligible difference here?

cheers,

Re: tag for sweeping HTML code, making safe, XHTML-compliant, etc.

2002-01-21 Thread Gyrus

> On the acs_stripTags.cfm,
> you could make that quicker using one regex.

The only thing is that my longer version was designed to
catch 'orphaned' opening and closing tags as well. I
thought of maybe putting in a couple of extra regexes
to catch these, or maybe just using your regex for
speed, and forgetting about the possibility of
orphaned tags, until I ran a quick test.

On the source of a basic Word doc, the long-winded code
ran consistently at around 80ms, whereas the single
regex code ran at around 270ms! Can't believe this
myself, but I guess it makes my decision for me, and
makes me a little wary of the idea that the compactness
of regex code would automatically lead to speed gains.

Thanks anyway,

- Gyrus

Manual statistics/ Hits counter at DB?

2002-01-21 Thread JAAV

Hello,

Our website is composed by a huge number of "business cards". We want to
show to our clients their "card" statistics with pretty interface. Something
like: hits by day, hits in the last month, average, etc. The first thing we
thought was to make an "UPDATE Counter = Counter + 1" query each time the
webuser hits each webpage. But We are thinking this can be dangerous cause
we have more than 1000 000 hits in a month and growing.

We can't give access to a statistics software.

May we use and text file instead? What do you recommend?

Thanks in advance,

~Jaav

Re: CSS

2002-01-21 Thread Tyler Silcox

I've searched for many a moon and as far as I know, you can't alter the
border attributes or 3D properties on a select box. It doesn't make any
sense, because just about all the other form elements accept these
attributes. And the body properties won't cascade to select boxes, only
textareas. I just match the bgcolor, widths, and fonts to the other form
elements and curse the W3C for not doing something about it...

I know about the scrollbar properties for the browser. What I'm trying to
alter are the properties for a select box.

There should be a area in your css like so.

body{
 scrollbar-face-color: #CC;
 scrollbar-shadow-color: #00;
 scrollbar-highlight-color: #FF;
 scrollbar-3dlight-color: #CC;
 scrollbar-darkshadow-color: #00;
 scrollbar-track-color: #ADAED6;
 scrollbar-arrow-color: #FF;
 scrollbar-base-color: #FF;
}

There are two major products that come out of Berkeley: LSD and [Unix]
BSD. We don't believe this to be a coincidence.
