Re: CFMail Sanity Check - Where's the Macromedia rep

2004-07-05 Thread Matt Robertson
 Well, that's good to hear. I hope spamcop is included in that.

Yes, and downgraded accordingly. Spamcop was once golden, then based
on some rather draconian behavior (like blacklisting a domain merely
mentioned in an email's text... The U.S. D.O.T. got listed for awhile
on spamcop, for example, as a GEICO spam listed auto recalls from
DOT.gov in its spammage)a lot of admins went from trusting them
implicity to not at all.Based on the list traffic I subscribe to
they seem to have cleaned up to the point where they're back on the
'useful' list, but nothing like their original sainted-mother status.
Since I have moved exclusively to Bayesian filtering during this
period blacklists are something I only read about.

 -good to know, thanks. But you see then the characteristics of cfmail DO contribute to
 a spam score, as missing headers - I think - are noted on many spam tests.

Yes indeed.I suppose you could argue that this is part of why there
is a cfmailparam tag... so that coders can write a proper email
message... and it should not be so that people think cfmail alone will
do the whole job.Blame MM for not getting the word out on that
score.

This is exactly what I was getting at above. Why in the world does
CFMX not include them then???

Cuz its the job of cfmailparam, and its up to you to figure this out
:-(See above.Bad karma.

  How can it be detected if CF places the header properly, and its a
  valid value?

 I mean that things like a fake but correct Outlook mailer ID are detected because there can be several checks and if they all don't match perfectly it is noted as forged, which is a death sentence.

Yup.Duplicate headers are bad.Pretending to be Outlook is muy mas bad.

 If on the other hand you had a sender of [EMAIL PROTECTED]
  and the reply-to was [EMAIL PROTECTED] then yes, that would be a giant red
  flag.
 -yes, I have been doing that out of necessity. Can't tell how bad the effect is, but a few bounces. Maybe others are tossed. Others go through fine. But I need to change that.

Ouch.As I'm sure you know you get a spanking for doing that.You
may have a good reason but the environment of today says you can't go
there.

thx for the css tips.Always looking for the grail there.

Dumping a CFHTTP call?

2004-07-05 Thread C. Hatton Humphrey
I'm working on a generic internal screen-scraper to export reports to
Excel.In the process of building my call I generate a structure that
stores the parameters and such and then parse it all out in the CFHTTP
call.

Is there a way that I can see exactly what is being passed via the
CFHTTP call (like in a debug results) without modifying the page that
is called?

Thanks!

cflogin and cached credentials

2004-07-05 Thread Dan Bracuk
While testing my first application using cflogin, I was able to do this sort of thing.

Sequence 1.
Log in with correct username and password.
Log out with cflogout.
Change password in database (not using a CF Application)
Log in with old password.
Log out with cflogout.
Delete user record in database
Log in with old username password.

I read the archives in HouseofFusion and learned that:
a.cflogin info is cached.
b.the cflogin tag uses the cached info if it finds any, uses it and bypasses the cfloginuser tag.

Does anyone know where this information is cached?More importantly, does anyone know how to maintain this cache so that it only contains current information.

Build JAVA request and response scopes in CF

2004-07-05 Thread Stavros Tekes
Hi all,I am building an application in CF that uses a Java API (I do not have the source for the API)The problem I am facing, is that I can't call some of the API functions which use the request and response scope as parameteres ( for example a function existing in a SERVLET which is declared as : protected void FunctionName(HttpServletRequest request, HttpServletResponse response) ).This is done cause there is not something (to my knowledge of course) in CF that can represent the request and response scope the way Java does and for that, the function is not recognized and called properly. I tried to use Javacast() but I didnt know how to build the CFRequest and CFResponse variablesIs there any solution to this problem? Maybe someone has faced the same problem in the past and built a wrapper function that takes the URL and SESSION scope of CF and form it the way JAVA builds its request scope.Any help will be significant to me as I seem to be running out of ideas SCARY!Cheers!Stavros

Whats the other code around that, as I notice you end with a comma but
no more code is shown.

Might help to scope your vars, so add something like

CFSET VAR Cat =

after the CFFUNCTION

or ommit the name of the CFQUERY if its not going to return anything.
Potentially pass the datasource in as an argument rather than trying
to access the Application scope

variables with cfquery

2004-07-05 Thread Frank Dewey
hello all,

I am sending a file from flash to CF.The variables are getting
there...so that is no problem.However, once they get there, then I am
not sure how to put them into action.For example, I am sending many x
and y values, and some IDs.So a basic query for sending flash
variables to CF looks like this:

assume I am sending these values from Flash to CF -
xValue;
yValue;
myID;

CFpage -
cfquery ...
UPDATE tableName
SETx = #form.xValue#,
y =#form.yValue#
WHERE ID = #form.myID#
/cfquery

The problem is that I am sending several values and I don't know how
many until run-time.I also have to create the variables and there
values at run-time...so this is what I have:

assume I am sending these values from Flash to CF -
x1 = 10;
y1 = 50;
myID1 = 1045;
x2 = 10;
y2 = 50;
myID = 2;
...

CFpage -
cfloop from=1 to=#form.numberOfValues# index=i
 cfset thisX = form.x#i#
 cfset thisY = form.y#i#
 cfset thisID = form.myID#i#
 cfquery ...
UPDATE tableName
SETx = #thisX#,
 y =#thisY#
WHERE ID = #thisID#
 /cfquery
/cfloop

So I am asking how to create a dynamic variable...involving
concatenation?Any help with this problem is greatly appreciated -
Frank

Looks like you are missing a set of single quotes in your value attribute.

Instead of this,
45 : settxtBoutCat = cfqueryparam cfsqltype=cf_sql_varchar

value=#instance.category# null=#yesnoformat(not len(trim
(instance.category)))#,

try this:
45 : settxtBoutCat = cfqueryparam cfsqltype=cf_sql_varchar

value='#instance.category#' null=#yesnoformat(not len(trim

Re: Havent seen this error before...

2004-07-05 Thread JediHomer
Still some of the code missing...

Is param1 a string with the type set to something like CF_SQL_VARCHAR
or CF_SQL_LONGVARCHAR, then I assum param2 to be a 1 or a 0 with the
type set to CF_SQL_BIT and finaly a numeric passed to param 3 with a
type of CF_SQL_INTEGER ?

You also seem to have a YesNoFormat() in the Null section of the
CFQUERYPARAM, are the fields setup to allow for Null values?

Re: variables with cfquery

2004-07-05 Thread JediHomer
How are you sending the variables to CF? via LoadVariables()
 if so you could pass in an extra field that states how many fields
you have created and then use that as the number of loops for CF to
perform.

You could also potentially use Flash Remoting (if flash version is not
an issue and you are you MX+) and build up and object to pass to CF
which then treats it as a structure

Subject: variables with cfquery
To: CF-Talk [EMAIL PROTECTED]

hello all,

I am sending a file from flash to CF.The variables are getting

there...so that is no problem.However, once they get there, then I am

not sure how to put them into action.For example, I am sending many x

and y values, and some IDs.So a basic query for sending flash

variables to CF looks like this:

assume I am sending these values from Flash to CF -

xValue;

yValue;

myID;

CFpage -

cfquery ...

UPDATE tableName

SETx = #form.xValue#,

y =#form.yValue#

WHERE ID = #form.myID#

/cfquery

The problem is that I am sending several values and I don't know how

many until run-time.I also have to create the variables and there

values at run-time...so this is what I have:

assume I am sending these values from Flash to CF -

x1 = 10;

y1 = 50;

myID1 = 1045;

x2 = 10;

y2 = 50;

myID = 2;

...

CFpage -

cfloop from=1 to=#form.numberOfValues# index=i

 cfset thisX = form.x#i#

 cfset thisY = form.y#i#

 cfset thisID = form.myID#i#

 cfquery ...

UPDATE tableName

SETx = #thisX#,

 y =#thisY#

WHERE ID = #thisID#

 /cfquery

/cfloop

So I am asking how to create a dynamic variable...involving

concatenation?Any help with this problem is greatly appreciated -

Frank

RE: Havent seen this error before...

2004-07-05 Thread Mark A. Kruger - CFG
Greg,

I don't believe that is correct. The purpose of the single quotes is to identify character data. cfqueryparam makes them
unnecessary by specifying the data type in advance.In this case using a datatype binding (cfqueryparam) means the
single quotes would be superflous.the driver creates a query with a placeholder that says character data here - then
whatever you pass in as the variable is bound to that type.Adding single quotes would only result having them suddenly
appear in the database as a part of the string. There is a bug with a hot fix (fixed permanently in cfmx 6.1 I believe)
that causes single quotes that included as a part of the param to be doubled up - but that's not the issue here either.

which is declared as : protected void FunctionName(HttpServletRequest
request, HttpServletResponse response) ).This is done cause there is
not something (to my knowledge of course) in CF that can represent the
request and response scope the way Java does and for that, the function
is not recognized and called properly. I tried to use Javacast() but I
didnt know how to build the CFRequest and CFResponse variablesIs
there any solution to this problem? Maybe someone has faced the same
problem in the past and built a wrapper function that takes the URL and
SESSION scope of CF and form it the way JAVA builds its request scope.
Any help will be significant to me as I seem to be running out of
ideas SCARY!Cheers!Stavros

Wow, I didn't understand what you just said Mark. But my understanding is
that you don't need single quotes inside the cfqueryparam. Specifying the
cfsqltype should take care of that for you right?

Greg,

I don't believe that is correct. The purpose of the single quotes is to
identify character data. cfqueryparam makes them
unnecessary by specifying the data type in advance.In this case using a
datatype binding (cfqueryparam) means the
single quotes would be superflous.the driver creates a query with a
placeholder that says character data here - then
whatever you pass in as the variable is bound to that type.Adding single
quotes would only result having them suddenly
appear in the database as a part of the string. There is a bug with a hot
fix (fixed permanently in cfmx 6.1 I believe)
that causes single quotes that included as a part of the param to be doubled
up - but that's not the issue here either.

Re: Havent seen this error before...

2004-07-05 Thread JediHomer
You dont need it to specify that its a string

i.e. set sfoo = 'im a sring'

It should also escape single quotes embeded into the string, but there
is a bug with a hotfix (which is what Mark was refering to I beleive)
where if you use a string function within the CFQueryParam which
contained a Single quote then it would be doubled up.

I.e.

CFSET sString = Homer's life is normal in comparison to mine

CFQUERY ...
 UPDATE myTable
 SET TheTitle = CFQUERYPARAM VALUE=#sString#
/CFQUERY

Will update the value to be Homer's life is normal in comparison to mine

whereas

CFQUERY ...
 UPDATE myTable
 SET TheTitle = CFQUERYPARAM VALUE=#Left(Trim(sString), 100)#
/CFQUERY

Would actually enter Homer''s life is normal in comparison to mine
into the database

Re: Havent seen this error before...

2004-07-05 Thread JediHomer
It shouldnt but thats the bug, as its not just a variable but a string
function being passed into the tag the single quote doesnt go into the
database as a single quote but as 2 single quotes.

So basically if you wanted to trim and make sure whats going into the
DB is less than 100 chars you have to do this outside of the tag for
it to behave as expected.

Greg,

no - it would not.What he's (probably) doing is staying away from a data truncation error - where the database
chockes on a string that is too long for the field size definition.In this case perhaps his field definition has a
size of 100 - doing a left(string,100) makes sure that the string is never too long.

Actually, that won't quite do it. If I'm reading the code correctly, that will also generate July 21th, July 22th, July 23th, and July 31th.

So, you'll need conditional code to also take those numbers into account. (Unfortunately, you can't just look at the last character in the numeric date, because 11, 12, and 13 work differently from 1, 2, and 3.)

 Actually, that won't quite do it. If I'm reading the code correctly,
 that will also generate July 21th, July 22th, July 23th, and July 31th.

 So, you'll need conditional code to also take those numbers into
 account. (Unfortunately, you can't just look at the last character in
 the numeric date, because 11, 12, and 13 work differently from 1, 2,
 and 3.)

Your second example is just trimming the left 100 chars, that won't affect

Day of Week in Access

2004-07-05 Thread Scott Brady
I'm trying to extract rows from an Access database where the row's date_transaction field is a specific numeric day of the week (1-7).

Here's my query:
SELECT COUNT(t.transaction_id) AS numAttendees, t.date_transaction FROM practice_transactionTbl t, transaction_typeTbl tt
WHERE t.transaction_type_id = tt.transaction_type_id AND
DatePart(w,t.date_transaction) IN ( 3,5,7 ) GROUP BY t.date_transaction ORDER BY t.date_transaction ASC

Within Access, that query runs fine.In ColdFusion MX (6.1), however, I get a DB error (Too few parameters).

Does the JDBC driver not recognize the DatePart function for Access?If not, any ideas on how to get around it?

RE: variables with cfquery

Mike,

Thanx for the help.I'm using MX2004 - LoadVars() and including that
extra field.Unfortunatly I am not using Flash remoting...for some
reason my boss doesn't want me to go that route?Everything seems like
it should work alright...but the variables are not getting passed to
flash.

To shed a little light on what I'm doing, flash gets its data from a
database.The records retrieved are then converted to movieClips in
Flash so the user can drag the movie clips.When finished, the user
clicks a 'save' button and the x and y fields are updated.

All data is inserted into flash ok, after dragging movieClips around the
user hits the save button:

save_btn. {
 saveObject = new LoadVars();
 saveObject.>
_root.gotoAndStop(EPS_lbl);
 };

 var step = 0;
 for (var mc in _root.list_mc) {
if (typeof _root.list_mc[mc] == movieclip) {
step++;
var tmpName = String(mc);
dragNum = tmpName.substr(8);
//variable dragNum is the number appended at the end of each
//instance name and it is used to access other information
var tmpProcStepID = eval(container.processStepId_ +
dragNum);
//this is where I think the problem starts
saveObject[procStepId + step] = tmpProcStepID;
saveObject[x + step] = _root.list_mc[tmpName]._x
saveObject[y + step] = _root.list_mc[tmpName]._y;
}
 }

 //passing that variable for the number of loops CF should execute
 saveObject.numSteps = step;
 saveResults = unescape(saveObject);
 //this trace shows that saveObject is sending what it should
 trace(saveResults);
 saveObject.sendAndLoad(sample.cfm,saveObject,POST);
 //I'm using getURL to check that the correct data is being sent.
 //And none of the form fields that I am sending (via saveObject)
show up
 getURL(sample.cfm,blah,POST);
 gotoAndStop(processing_lbl);
}

To: CF-Talk [EMAIL PROTECTED]

hello all,

I am sending a file from flash to CF.The variables are getting

there...so that is no problem.However, once they get there, then I am

not sure how to put them into action.For example, I am sending many x

and y values, and some IDs.So a basic query for sending flash

variables to CF looks like this:

assume I am sending these values from Flash to CF -

xValue;

yValue;

myID;

CFpage -

cfquery ...

UPDATE tableName

SETx = #form.xValue#,

y =#form.yValue#

WHERE ID = #form.myID#

/cfquery

The problem is that I am sending several values and I don't know how

many until run-time.I also have to create the variables and there

values at run-time...so this is what I have:

assume I am sending these values from Flash to CF -

x1 = 10;

y1 = 50;

myID1 = 1045;

x2 = 10;

y2 = 50;

myID = 2;

...

CFpage -

cfloop from=1 to=#form.numberOfValues# index=i

 cfset thisX = form.x#i#

 cfset thisY = form.y#i#

 cfset thisID = form.myID#i#

 cfquery ...

UPDATE tableName

SETx = #thisX#,

 y =#thisY#

WHERE ID = #thisID#

 /cfquery

/cfloop

So I am asking how to create a dynamic variable...involving

concatenation?Any help with this problem is greatly appreciated -

Frank

I don't think that flash is expecting anything from CF...if it is, then
it operates correctly without it.I did another project similar to this

I misspoke on my last email.I said:

What I meant was that CF is passing the variables to flash ok, but flash
is not sending out the correct variables to CF.

Looking back at the code it could be the getURL that you call straight
after it that *possibly* might be playing things up,

getURL doesnt support the POST method, so try removing that...

Potentially Dumb the function down for a test so that you know the

 I was wondering if someone could point me in the right direction.I need
 to be able to extract certain information from cells an excel file, update
 some cell, delete some rows in the file then import the file to my
 database.Can anybody point me to a resource that explains how to do this
 or if someone has some experience with this it would be greatly
 appreciated.

 Thank you,

 Mike

Creating Excel workbooks

2004-07-05 Thread erick calder
I've found this piece of code (on that pathetic online manual that Macromedia hosts):

cfscript
obj = CreateObject(Com, excel.application.9);
obj.quit();
ReleaseCOMObject(obj);
/cfscript

but when I run it, the page never comes back... what could the problem be?alternatively, does anyone have a good reference for how to create pivot tables in Excel from a Cold Fusion page?

thx - erick

RE: Creating Excel workbooks

2004-07-05 Thread Samuel R. Neff
Office Automation is not safe for server side use.You should avoid code
similar to what you posted (anything that instantiates an office
application).

Office Web Components supports pivot tables.I have a small example in one
presentation that talks about OWC but the example only covers using it to
create chart.

You should be able to find information online if you don't mind examples in
ASP or .NET--search google and msdn.

Best regards,

Sam
