Hi Pradeep,
   In your IIS just create virtual directory which points to original
CFIDE.

So you can implement in above way then all ajax functionality will
work smoothly.
   Let me know if you have any doubt over this.

Did you read my initial response? It describes the likely
possibilities for writing a file.

It probably wasn't a Windows exploit actually, unless you happen to be
running Windows 2000 or something. IIS and Windows are fairly secure
"out of the box" and don't have remote exploits that let you write
files via HTTP requests, unless you enable WebDAV.

Pradeep,

I would not suggest copying the /CFIDE/ scripts folder into every site root.
This can become a nightmare to manage when you need to update with patches or
new versions. Instead you should create a virtual directory.

I do recommend you setup a virtual host just for ColdFusion administrator, this
makes it easy to restrict, log, etc. Some use the built-in JRun web server for
this purpose and that also works well in many scenarios.

Re: Sessions failing due to multiple CFID / CFTOKEN cookies

2012-02-22 Thread Clark Baker

Richard or James,

Was the cause of this issue ever determined for either of you? We're having the
same issue with a small percentage of users. We're detecting the double CFID
entry in cgi.http_cookie and running a javascript to clear all our domain's
cookies when we find the double CFID. We also set a tracking cookie so we don't
try to clear that user's cookies again in case the double CFID doesn't go away.

I believe that CF is setting a CFID and CFTOKEN for both www.domain.com and
.domain.com and maybe that's why it's getting confused.

However this is just dealing with the issue, not correcting it.

Any info from your end would be appreciated. Thanks

You didn't create those variables. You created a string. If you output
caculateTotal, you will see the literal text you wrote, not variables.

Re: I doubt anyone can help me with this, but...

By the way, is there a way to grab the variables created by cfsavecontent? When
I try to access the variable calculateTotal.totalAmount, I get the "You have
attempted to dereference a scalar variable of type class java.lang.String as a
structure with members." error message which means I'm trying to use a string
as a structure. When I use a cfdump to dump calculateTotal, it just shows me
the entire code in one long string like so:

"var totalAmount = 0; var item; var subTotal = 0; for(var i = 0; i <
cart.length; i++) { item = cart.getItemAt(i); subTotal = number(item['price'])
* item['quantity']; totalAmount += subTotal; cart.editField(i, 'amount',
subTotal); } total.text = totalAmount;"

Is it not possible to reference the variables in a cfsavecontent?

I obvious don't know your client, but in my experience, you will always
EVENTUALLY have to explain it. A huge part of dealing with clients is
setting proper expectations. If you set the expectation that it's possible
to make the online app look and behave identically to a MS Access database,
you're gonna run into trouble eventually.

It's better to be up front as early as possible than you try to satisfy a
client's unreasonable expectations because you allowed those expectations
to be set by the client without control by you, the developer.

values - in case of browser crash or something else. :)

Just charge for the labor accordingly... Have managed to talk clients out
of all sorts of outlandish impulses by bringing up the costs ($ or time or
both). Questions that start with "Can we [some technical thing]?" can
usually be answered "Yes, given [required resources]." The more interesting
question is often "How best should we [some technical thing] given
currently available resources\workflows\future plans\etc]?"

Thanks guys, I'll give jquery a try. And to Ray, I think if I have to spend
much more time on this, I'm going to have to explain it to him. The only reason
he's being so picky is because he was using MS Access before the conversion and
he expects the CF app. to work exactly the same way except for the look of the
input form. He actually told me he wanted the app. to update the database on
the fly like MS Access does so that if anything goes wrong while entering in
data, he won't have to type everything in again. It took me forever to convince
him that not only would it require accessing and updating the database after
each keystroke and would greatly slow down the app., but that having corrupt
and/or incomplete data in a database is just bad coding. He's a great guy, but
he's one of "those" clients...you know, the ones that want the near impossible.

Or just remind the client that the web isn't print. Period. Deal with
it. Etc. I mean, shoot, does he want your code to also transform
user's monitors into legal US paper size and thickness?

Ditto Cam - just use HTML/jQuery. :)

This could also be a good case for PDF forms.

I suspect you will have an easier time using HTML/JS/CSS for this. Look at
jQuery, there are several skinable datagrids available as plugins.

RE: Ram Disk problem under load

2012-02-22 Thread Brook Davies

Hi Raymond,

I don't see your reply actually... oh here it is in my junk
folder...g...

Tonight when the load test is running, I'll pause midway and swap in a real
file path and see how that runs.

The only other thing I can think is that there is a name collision and the
file is deleted by another thread who was using the same filename. But the
filename variable IS var scoped (FYI, this IS inside an application scoped
CFC).

I doubt anyone can help me with this, but...

2012-02-22 Thread Ray Meade

...I'm writing a CF app. for a client that wants to be able to have his input
form look exactly like his invoice. Because of this, the form on the page HAS
to be an HTML form. (it would be nearly impossible for me to make a flash form
look the way they need it to) However, the form also needs to have a flash grid
to display the work done and the grid needs to update the totals in the last
field of the grid based on quantity and price. Also, the entire total from the
grid needs to be updated in the subtotal field. I managed to find some good
code here:
"http://www.asfusion.com/blog/entry/adding-the-values-of-a-cfgrid-column";. This
code works fine on it's own (probably because it's all in one flash form) but
when I try to incorporate it into the app., it won't show the grid at all on
the page. (because the form is an HTML form and the grid is a Flash grid) My
"solution" was to create 3 separate forms on the page, 2 HTML forms for the
regular input fields and one flash form in between them to supply the flash
grid and I'm using JavaScript to compile the controls from all of the forms to
create a new form containing all of the fields and submitting it. Well, that
ALMOST works. Only some of the fields are getting sent to the processing page
and NONE of the flash form fields are being sent. Also, I can't get the
subtotal field to accept the variable that the JavaScript created that contains
the total of all rows because the variable can't be passed from one form to
another on the same page. (especially passing it from a Flash form to an HTML
form)

Here's the JavaScript that updates the last column in the grid and calculates
the total:

products=queryNew("");
names="";
amount=0;
price=0;
quantity=0;
queryaddcolumn(products,"name",listtoarray(names));
queryaddcolumn(products,"amount",listtoarray(amount));
queryaddcolumn(products,"quantity",listtoarray(quantity));
queryaddcolumn(products,"price",listtoarray(price));

  var totalAmount = 0;
  var item;
  var subTotal = 0;
  for(var i = 0; i < cart.length; i++) {
item = cart.getItemAt(i);
subTotal = number(item['price']) * item['quantity'];
totalAmount += subTotal;
cart.editField(i, 'amount', subTotal);
  }
  total.text = totalAmount;

Here's the script that compiles the 3 forms into 1 and submits it:

/* Function: add all elements from ``frmCollectFrom´´ and append them to
``frmCollector´´ before returning ``frmCollector´´*/
function appendFormVals2Form(frmCollectFrom, frmCollector) {
var frm = frmCollectFrom.elements;
for(var ix = 0 ; ix < frm.length ; ix++)
frmCollector.appendChild(frm[ix]);
return frmCollector;
}
/* Collect all forms in document to one and post it */
function submitAllDocumentForms() {
var arrDocForms = document.getElementsByTagName('form');
var formCollector = document.createElement("form");
with(formCollector)
{
method="post";
action="processes/newprocess_manageproject.cfm";
name="formCollector";
id="formCollector";
}
for(var ix=0;ix

Re: Required folders under CFIDE

2012-02-22 Thread Pete Freitag

Pradeep,

I would not suggest copying the /CFIDE/ scripts folder into every site
root. This can become a nightmare to manage when you need to update with
patches or new versions. Instead you should create a virtual directory.

I do recommend you setup a virtual host just for ColdFusion administrator,
this makes it easy to restrict, log, etc. Some use the built-in JRun web
server for this purpose and that also works well in many scenarios.

Pete,

Sorry on the delayed response. Thank you for the extra tips.

I am planning to setup the servers with 1 web server but with individual
virtual hosts for every CF Applications and ColdFusion Administrator. The CFIDE
folder containing just the scripts and other required stuff to be copied under
every virtual host.

The other option i have is to have 2 web servers on the same box. One for the
ColdFusion Administrator and the other for CF Applications. Again all apps will
have individual virtual hosts .

Guess sounds a bit crazy, but please let me know your comments on this.

Good idea, I'll check the contents of the ram disk after any failures...

Hi Brook,

Certainly you will want to have a try / catch around that, you could put the
delete of the ram file in a tag to ensure it runs, otherwise if
an error is thrown in the cfinclude the file never gets deleted and stays in
ram.

Also to answer your question about the garbage collection, I don't think
that would be the issue, the garbage collector only removes objects that
have a reference count of zero, I would assume that when you have a file on
the ram disk ColdFusion maintains a reference to it, when you delete the
file CF will delete the reference and allow the GC to cleanup.

I don't think reducing the size of your ram disk will make the problem go
away.

What you might want to do is run this after you run your load test to see
whats in there:

Re: CF attack on a buddies server

2012-02-22 Thread Pete Freitag

I have seen variants of that script before, it is published in several
places.

In addition to what has already been mentioned, here are some steps you can
take to make sure these types of attacks fail (obviously though the more
critical issue is how did the attacker get the file there in the first
place, probably though a file upload vulnerability, or a path traversal
that exposed a password they could then use to upload)

1) Change the default encryption seed in CF administrator (this is for CF9
only)
2) Check "Disable access to internal ColdFusion Java components" in the CF
Admin to prevent access to the service factory
3) Setup a sandbox (and Yes you can still setup a sandbox on Standard
edition, you are just limited to one set of sandbox settings for the entire
server, instead of being able to create multiple sandboxes) to block
cfexecute, and more if possible.

RE: Ram Disk problem under load

2012-02-22 Thread Brook Davies

Hi Pete,

I don't think its possible because the ram disk size is set to 500 megs, and
this was only 10 concurrent users! I have another test with 100 cuncurrent
users running tonight and I guess we'll see what happens though I am sure
this is going to be an issue. I added a try/catch around the write/read and
am them attempting to do it again, so I guess we'll see what happens.

Maybe I should reduce the size allocated to the ram disk?

I would recommend that you read the CF 9 Server Lockdown Guide:

http://www.adobe.com/products/coldfusion/whitepapers/pdf/91025512_cf9_lockdownguide_wp_ue.pdf

In this specific case, you shouldn't allow CF to write to any web
content directories by default, and you shouldn't allow file uploads
to any web content directories.

Re: JQuery .ajax() call posts back to invoking page only on Production

2012-02-22 Thread Azadi Saryev

the usual culprit with page reloading on ajax request is forgetting to
prevent the default action (click/submit) of the element that triggers
ajax call. if your ajax call is part of a function bound to an
anchor's click event, or a submit type input/button element - check
that you do have e.preventDefault() in your function to cancel the
default click/submit action.

another thing i would check is to make sure your codebase is exactly
the same, including your Application.cfc/cfm contents. if you are
using Application.cfc, check if you have onRequest() method defined on
your prod server - it may interfere with remote calls to cfc's.

as Claude said, seeing the actual live page may help shed more light
on the issue...

You might be surprised at how many people I come across in the industry who
are making a good solid living writing CF apps but barely can write CSS,
HTML, JavaScript and really even much in regards to SQL. Quite often
though they are using some sort of CF "framework" or other "core" tool that
a more advanced group of CF people developed.

Re: JQuery .ajax() call posts back to invoking page only on Production

Hi Cameron, I tried that based on your suggestion and didn't see any indication
of back/forth communication. I liked how Chrome groups js and css activities
together so I can see where to spend some time cleaning things up. I
appreciate your suggestion. Fiddler 2 does a good job for showing the traffic
and shows that the ajax requests complete successfully. It's that different
behaviour of refreshing the page with querystring params after completing that
I'm out to determine the cause.

Re: Ram Disk problem under load

2012-02-22 Thread Raymond Camden

Just to be sure, if you change your mapping to point to a real
directory, does the issue go away immediately?

Re: CFScript Book

2012-02-22 Thread Scott Brady

Right. I was talking about why _I_ generally don't like cfscript.

But, honestly, if they don't really know how to do anything in javascript,
then I'm not sure what they're doing writing CFML (or any web application
development language).

Ram Disk problem under load

2012-02-22 Thread Brook Davies

Hey everyone,

Did some very light pre-load testing yesterday in preparation for a larger
test tomorrow. This limited load threw some errors. I'm writing to the in
memory file system some CFML code, that I then cfinclude to execute it. Its
pretty straight forward code, and this was under very little load (10
concurrent users only).

Note: I have an application mapping for the ram disk in application.cfc:

And then in the problem code:

-

-

The error I got was:

Could not find the included template
/ram/wildcardparsing-66031760-EEDC-69FB-8F2EFEC77564096A.cfm.

I got a similar error in another template on a different execution that uses
similar code to generate the CFML for a CFDOCUMENT tag and then writes it to
ram disk and includes. I have never seen this error in development it only
started happening under a wee bit of load. What could be the problem? The In
memory file system is set to 500 megs in the cfadmin (which is probably
overkill..). Would a garbage collection before the include had been
completed cause this to happen?

Brook
