ATM switch configuration. [7:75137]
Hi all, Can somebody point me to the location where I can copy paste the base ATM switch configuration to be used in the labs like Ipexpert? Since I am not as familiar as FR switch, all I need is to have very basic connectivity from ATM router having 1 or 2 PVCs. OSPF summarisation when to use? [7:72443]
Hello everybody, Assume there is no expilicit question to summarise a particular subnet, is it really necessary to include "area range" or "summary-address" command in specific routers? In the practice labs we see the final goal is to see all networks in all the routers. Even without the summarisation commands I am able to see the routes in the routing tables, but the solutions for the lab includes them as well. Can somebody point me to any guidelines of when to use. Also if there is a need to use, do we need to include "area range" command in all the ABR's in the network? I would appreciate any help in regard to this. When redistributing, assuming OSPF carries networks for elsewhere a combination of /24, /26 and /28 networks. Hi all, I am facing a situation like this : 1. 2 routers connected back to back via serial connections and 4 loopbacks configured on both of them. IGRP is running as IGP protocol. Soon after I configure BGP on them and advertising the loopback networks, I could see the BGP routes in the routing table of R1 for a while and they disappear after sometime. But if the IGP is chosen to be a classless protocol like OSPF/ EIGRP then everything seems to be OK. Is there anything that needs to be taken care of under this circumstances? Virtual link question. [7:60452]
Hi all, Basically, this question stems from Lab 1 of ccbootcamp. 1. R3 and R4 needs virtual link configured between them for R4 routes to be seen in all the other routers. I go to R3 and say " area 3 virtual-link " and in R4 " area 3 virtual-link 10.34.1.1" . For the virtual links to come up, atleast R3 should be able to ping the lo1 of R4. But R4's routes ( including the loopbacks ) will be propagated only when the OSPF's virtual link is up and running. Also in the lab, we are not supposed to have static routes unless otherwise stated. - How is it possible to make the R4's routes appear in R3. Any workaround? Hello everybody. I am working on Lab 2 of ccbootcamp and am confused with the following. Can somebody clarify on that please? Item 2b says Configure R1's ethernet in OSPF area 1. . Item 2i says Configure the router R1 with EIGRP and redistribute with OSPF ( Here I thought I can only configure R1's s0.1 for EIGRP and leave the Ethernet and S0.2 to OSPF. ). Item 2j says Configure the router R1 so that it only listens to EIGRP updates on Ethernet 0 and interface serial 0.2. The network diagram points that Ethernet 0 of R1 is in Area 1 and EIGRP domain surrounds it. Where I am going wrong? Q in RIP. [7:57513]
Hi all, In the practice labs at the end of the book of CCIE prac studies by Karl Solie, I see a very common mention like the one below ( mostly I have seen under RIP routing, sometimes it also comes in other Routing protocol sections as well ) " Make sure that no other routes are redistributed into the backbone." OR " Don not allow any routes from the lab network to be advertised onto Backbone 1" To be more specific - the lab is Darth Reid Section V under item # 4. What exactly could be the configuration under this situations. The only thing that I could think of is NOT to include "redistribute ospf 1 " under RIP process. Re: odd & even # IPs on an ACL [7:56551]
Take ex : 192.168.0.0/24 to 192.168.10.0/24 are the networks. For filtering odd networks here is what the ACL will look like 192.168.1.0 and the WCM will be 0.0.254.255 For filtering even networks it will be 192.168.0.0 , WCM - 0.0.254.255. Means that for ODD networks last bit of the third octet will always be 1 For the EVEN networks the last bit of the third octet will always be 0. So you care only that bit in the WCM. PS : The chapter for ACL in CCIE Practical Studies by Karl Solie has an example of this and a good explanation. Hope this helps. New CCIE written exam. [7:53005]
Hi all, Took the new version of CCIE written exam. The exam consists of 180 min and 150 questions. The passing score is 105. But my score was only 67. :-( Lot of questions in IS-IS, Mcast and QoS. Lot of scenario based questions as well. Most of them were "choose the best answer" only a few were "multiple choice questions" and they specify how many are the best answers. 2 questions were on PVLANs, None in WLAN, couple of them in TR, Enet and FDDI stuff. Before taking the test, there is a small survey to be taken online. One of the questions in the survey is you need to select the technologies that you have worked on. I suspect most of the questions are based on the technology that you selected. Time shouldn't be a problem because you have more than a minute for a question You still can revisit marked questions at the end of the test. All the best for everybody who is right now preparing for this and if you need more specifics about the exam, email me - I will try to answer to the best I can that I have from my memory. 2nd try : OSPF Q in CCIE prac. studies pg 786 [7:51369]
Hi all, I was trying to setup this network in fig 12-9. I got stuck in one particular route. I am not able to view the route 172.16.10.0/24 on the router "peter" which is running RIP and got to see this route as redistributed one. The question is in which router do I need to give the "area range " command in order to see this route appear on router "peter". I tried several options of giving in the router "john" which is ABR -as this "area 10 range 172.16.10.0 255.255.255.0", but this summarised route is not advertised back to the same area for the ASBR router ( mark ) to redistribute to RIP. Any workaround to overcome this? PS : Sample output of "sh ip route" for router peter shows this route, but my setup doesn't = So I am trying to get some idea of how to make available this route. Bandwidth command!! [7:44055]
Hi all, CCIE Practical studies - Vol I book - EIGRP chapter says that the bandwidth command used in serial interfaces should be set to a value equal to the remote port speed to which the serial interface is connected to. Re: Halabi's Internet Routing Architecture book [7:35165]
In addition to that, I would strongly recommend the use of this book : 1. BGP4 Config. guide and command reference book - William Parkhurst. This book goes to each and every command of the BGP and examples are given for better understanding of the Cisco's CLI. Both of the books go hand in hand. You can read Hallabi's book first, then switch modes to read some commands then go back to Hallabi for advanced configurations. As a user of both, I recommend all people who are going in for CCIE lab to touch so very easily you can remember the commands and little you face problems in the lab. Hi all, When I was going thru the topics in BGP - distribute-list and route-map, I was trying to find out the differences between the two and where each of these commands would really be useful. Ipexpert lab 4 question. [7:32555]
Hi all, I was going thru the Lab 4 of IPEXPERT notes - IGRP/EIGRP. I couldn't follow the reason why on Router 4's serial interface "ip split-horizon" is given. I understand that on FR cloud "split-horizon" is disabled by default on FR physical interfaces and enabled on FR sub interfaces. If thats the case, why shouldn't we enable it on Routers R5 and R6 which are also on FR cloud and also having physical interfaces. One thing for sure, is if I remove this "ip split-horizon" config from R4, I see the network 150.50.24.0 flapping - The output of "sh ip route" in R2 and R4 says connected/derived from IGRP and after a while it says "possibly down" network. So much so, if you configure ip split-horizon back in R4 - these messages go back. Would appreciate if somebody could share their piece of thoughts. I am running IGRP 2 on R4 on loopback and serial interfaces. I have not included the ethernet interface in the config. Assume, I have assigned the IP for the loopback as 200.0.0.4/32 The config is this : router igrp 2 net 150.50.0.0 net 200.0.0.0 redis connected default-metric 64 1000 255 1 1500 When I issued "sh ip route" in R4 : sometimes the loopback interface is advertised as IGRP route properly and sometimes it shows "possibly down" network. I couldn't seem to get the timings of when it was up and when it is going down. Any insights in this please? Re: BGP Extended Access-list [7:31212]
The BGP extended ACL works differently from the regular extended ACL. Here is how it goes. In the access list that you gave as an example : access-list 101 permit ip 10.6.144.48 0.0.0.8 255.255.255.240 0.0.0.8 a .10.6.144.48 is the source network b. 0.0.0.8 is the wild card mask asssociated with the source network. c. 255.255.255.240 is the subnet mask that is used for the network 10.6.144.48 d. 0.0.0.8 is the wild card mask just for the subnet mask 255.255.255.240 Note : Both meanings of c and d will be different for the regular ACLs. Hope this helps. The application for this type of ACL is to permit/deny all but one type of subnet while still denying/permitting other subnets in the entire class. Re: Boot Reg [7:23561]
I probably see the potential cause would be the baud rate. ( just because you see some garbled messages ) Cisco routers by default has 2 bits allocated for baud rate. 2 bits make 4 combinations viz, 1200, 4800, 9600 and 2400. Try these settings one by one on the Hyperterm session that you had connected the system and try. Let me know the outcome. Re: Which books should I use ? [7:21735]
Hi Luiz, I would strongly suggest always use books from cisco press. It goes pretty much closely with the exam objectives and you are always on the track. All the best. rajesh Luiz Olivieri wrote: > Hi All, > > I would like an advise from people studying for CCNP on which book I > should use to prepare for the exams. > Which is better? OSPF authentication question. [7:18813]
Hi all, The scenario is this : Three router pod in a triangular fashion connected via ethernet ports to a switch in a common vlan. router a | e0 | router b -switch---router c e0fa0/0 OSPF is running between ethernet interfaces in area 0. Normal OSPF works fine and each router has entries about the other in "sh ip ospf neighbor" output. I was trying authentication commands. I started enabling authentication in area 0 under router ospf config " area 0 auth mess-dig" and in the interface e0 I gave " ip ospf mess-digest-key 1 md5 7 abc" I gave the above commands in router b and router a - it was working fine. they could exchange the OSPF information. When I gave the same thing in router c - router c couldn't be seen in other routers. I tried several times but in vain. The only difference between the routers is router c has fastethernet and models are : 1. router b 4500 2. router a 2514 3 router c 2600 On enabling the command : debug ip ospf events on router c, I observed Mismatch authentication keys but I used the same authentication key , number and the password. Any insights would be highly appreciated. thanks rajesh [GroupStudy.com removed an attachment of type text/x-vcard which had a name of pikumar.vcf] Message Posted at: http://www.groupstudy.com/form/read.php?f=7&i=18813&t=18813 -- FAQ, list archives, and subscription info: http://www.groupstudy.com/list/cisco.html Report misconduct and Nondisclosure violations to [EMAIL PROTECTED]

How good are ECP 1 and 2 classes? [7:13111]
Hi all, I just wanted to know about the classes - ECP 1 and 2 conducted by mentor tech. in CA. Is ECP 2 really necessary to take up the lab or just ECP 1 should do fine. What additions are there in ECP 2? Your comments are appreciated. Re: Is a CDP frame a broadcast, multicast or unicast? [7:10024]
CDP frame is a multicast. It is not a unicast/broadcast. You can see this information from www.cisco.com Rajesh "[EMAIL PROTECTED]" wrote: > I turned all debugging for CDP on and I am no seeing much? Re: URGENT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! [7:8061]
You can start the troubleshooting from the Physical layer onwards. Ensure you use the correct cables - crossover cable instead of back to back. Then if that if fine, then check the datalink connections. Then go higher up the stack, to see if you need to add anything in the configuration. If you are using T1 card and u want to use only 56k out of it, you might be in need of this configuration : config t controller T1 0/0 channel-group 0 timeslots 1 no shut something like that. let us know the outcome. rajesh CiscoG wrote: > Even if you accidentally configured the DTE with the Clock Rate command > instead of the DCE, or for that matter entered No Clock Rate command at all, > I don't think you would see Serial0/0 down, down. WIC - 2 A/S module for 3640 series router ! [7:5583]
Hi all, I have a 3640 router and Ethernet module loaded in the system. The router recognises as E0/0 and E0/1. when I try to plug in my WIC - 2 A/S card, the system is not recognizing the serial card. The same card is working in 26xx router. I went into cisco site and found that the cards are interchangeable. The IOS version is 12.0 in 3640 router. Did anybody faced this problem earlier. Any insight?
