Besides the software what does a login to CCO get you, which public access
doesn't?

It depends who you are and who you work for, each CCO login can have
a different profile for access to different areas such as bugsearch
tools, upgrade planners, field notices, online forums, technical
documents, case studies...the list goes on.
Cisco are generally quite nice if you have a genuine reason to have
your CCO access upgraded they can change it for you quickly.

Hi Chuck,

Surprised to hear that a Gold partner doesn't have access to IOS or TAC case
support. What's the reason for that? Is that a decision within your company
controlling who does what or from Cisco. Sorry - I don't know what your role
is in the company. I take it there are groups of people within your company
with this access.
I also work for a Gold Partner in post-sales support. We sort of take the
access we have for granted. There are certain guidelines, eg. at least 50%
of cases be raised by CCIE's, to ensure that faults are being progressed to
CCIE level before taking the soft option of a TAC case.
Just curious anyway.

Don't mean to dispute your opinion, but (I have to point to my

it just arrived via e-mail at some point after he completed NP/DP.

Any other ideas?

2001-07-09 Thread Kevin Wigle

Mike,

Well, like what has happened before - sometimes things get changed as an
explanation/story is passed down.

I've been on CCO for a few years now, I'm a Premier Partner and deal with
the ccoteam now and then concerning CCO logins as well as my personal
experience with the very much changed Cisco Consultant Program.

All I can suggest is to try and get as accurate a discription from your
brother-in-law as possible of how he got his CCO account. Is he employed by
a Cisco Partner/Reseller?

I have registered employees for my company account. I enter in their name
with my company credentials. When the account is created, the new account
holder gets an email from ccoteam confirming that a login has been created
for them. They don't initiate the process because I have to enter a special
key to complete the account.

I'm sure if you find out that he got it just for getting CCNP/CCDP that a
whole lot of people on this list will want to know how.

RE: CCO questions [7:11275]

2001-07-09 Thread Chuck Larrieu

Cisco's IOS is it's Crown Jewels, so to speak. So Cisco restricts who has
access to the downloading of IOS software. Otherwise, why would anyone pay
for the IOS, when they could download it for free?

TAC is for paying customers. There are public areas to Cisco's TAC site, but
only paying customers can open cases. Otherwise, every wannabee on these
mailing lists would be overwhelming TAC with requests for assistance. It
must be bad enough when clueless customers call in ( once upon a time I was
a clueless customer myself ;- ) Can you imagine the skyrocketing cost of
support if list denizens had free access to TAC?

I work for a Gold Partner, and I am not permitted to download IOS software,
nor am I allowed to open TAC cases. On the other hand, I can use the
Partners' pre-sales support all I want. And I can get to a lot of the
customer pages.

Other than that, there is a tremendous amount of information that is freely
available. In almost every case, a web link that contains the word
customer can be accessed without a login by substituting the work public

Well, actually, aside from this gets it, or that gets it, I stand by my
statement that the CCO stuff isn't a national secret, and it pisses me off
that Cisco protects it so. Especially when there are CCNA/DA/NP/DP's out
there everyday that could use it and make Cisco themselves look that much
better.

It is possible it no longer exists or doesn't provide the benefits and

more liberal permissions, so I don't miss the consultant account these
days.
When I first signed up with the program, maybe 18 months ago, I received a
large box of documentation, slaes training materials, books, etc.
including
a CCO account. After the initial shipment, I received quarterly (I think)
installments of the latest and greatest of these resources. When I
noticed
I wasn't getting this stuff any longer, I assumed I let my membership
lax.
Like I said, it didn't really matter much to me so I never looked into it
further. I'm sure many things have been cut and considering the expense
of
sending out all those CDs, books etc., it would seem like a good candidate
 for trimming expenses.

Unfortunately, having a reseller/partner account does not grant you the
permissions to download software such as IOS, PIX OS, CAT OS, etc. Now, I'm
not saying that you absolutely can't get these rights with this account, but
it's not the default. According to Cisco, if you're a reseller/partner, the
way to download software is to use the customer's account that was setup
with their SmartNet contract or a special download access code provided by
TAC.

As far as the CCO Get Login question, to review the requirements or get
forms, you have to login to CCO! Then, to add insult to injury when I just
shrugged and said forget it and clicked the get login button, the

Re: CCO questions [7:11275]

2001-07-08 Thread Kevin Wigle

from various posts..

Quite often rumours are based in fact (like at one time needing CCNA to get
CCDA... :-) )

1.You do not get a CCO login account from CCNP/CCDP status.

2.The consultant program used to give you a CCO login, I got one when I
registered for the Consultant program on 2 April 1999.

However, the program has changed and is now completely web based.

You can find it here:
http://www.cisco.com/warp/public/765/partner_programs/consultant/

3.An authorized Reseller or Partner can register their employess for a
CCO login. However, this does not get you download capabilities.

4.If a Reseller/Partner requests that a name be removed from their
account, the person removed will retain Guest status. I think it is for a
limited time - I'm not sure. When I requested that an employee that left my
company be taken off our account the CCO team member told me this.

5.To download images your CCO login has to be associated with a
maintenance contract. My company account gets me to expanded information
and Cisco company information but it doesn't allow me to download software.
Another login I have with a client I have has me listed on their smartnet
and with that account I can download software.

6.Someone wrote that the Get Login bombed on them I just tried
it, got to the form and I did everything except push the last submit
(because I have 2 accounts). Looked good up to that point.

I don't know if this will work, but it's worth mentioning

The new partner application requires you to have CCO login. If you don't
have a login, you can't complete the application.
At the bottom of the application page is a get login button. I haven't
tried this, but you may be able to fill out the information and obtain very
basic CCO access.
The page is http://www.cisco.com/warp/public/765/partner_programs/apply/
If anyone uses this to obtain CCO access, let me know. I'm curious if it
works.

Craig

I am unaware of Cisco providing CCO login just because you are a CCNP. I
believe but am not certain that a CCO account is one of the CCIE privileges.

At one time I had decent access because I was a member of the consultant's
program, but Cisco seems to have let that one fall by the wayside.

As an employee in good standing of a Cisco partner, I do have a CCO account.
But I am not permitted to open TAC cases.

Come to think of it, I haven't received anything for awhile either but to be
honest, haven't really missed it as I too work for a partner. It may no
longer be active but it would be worth it for the listers that don't work
for a partner to check it out.

I have heard of a CCO guest account. I don't know what it gets you but it
exists. Before anybody asks, I don't have a clue how to get it, what it
gets you, etc. I just know it's available.

How do these things get started...?  ;-}
