hi, in gnome2 i have problems with the taskbar ( i don't know the orrect name for that, it's the bar at the top/bottom/left or right of the screen )... concretely with the application list ( sorry, but i can't use the correct terminology, i'm not at my computer )... the problems: 1. the bars representing the different applications on the taskbar are random-length i don' t know why.. 2. sometimes ( it happens mostly with mozilla ) when i start mozilla, i see the rectangle representing the application on the taskbar... now i open a new mozilla-window from mozilla, and i still see only one rectangle on the taskbar, when now i switch to a different workspace and then back, i finally get 2 rectangles.. any ideas? thanks, gabor

I re-installed my entire system, wondering if there might be some decaying rpm matter from unremoved rpm's from pre 8.2 still messing things up. I still have the problem on fresh install, I did notice though that I can run licq with qt-gui as root, so it's a perms problem apparently but I don't know what. I made sure my home dir was owned by my user and it still dumps. If you do think that it is a file permission problem, try doing strace on it, then grep the output for EACCES (permission denied). A quick strace on it seems to turn up with no EACCES on starting licq here. -- G.

When I first log into my Cooker desktop, my previous font and theme selections do not seem to get re-activated. In order to activate them I simply need to run Configuration-Gnome-Advanced-Gtk+ Theme Selector. NOTE: I _do_not_ have to actually select a theme. Just simply running the theme selector restores my previous font and theme selection. I can Close the Theme Selector and all is fine. it would be nice to have these preferences restored when the desktop starts however. b. -- Brian J. It didn't occur before. Plus another issue : nautilus cannot open symbolic links placed on the desktop, I've got a message saying (/home/bertrand/Documents/RPMS is the targetname of the link, not is name) : Ne peut trouver « desktop:///home/bertrand/Documents/RPMS » Vérifiez l'orthographe et essayez à nouveau. The latest version of webmin is not accepting logins and will loop, though it will tell you if you got the login/ passwd combo wrong. It appears the mirror program doesn't keep file attributes by default, but there's an option for it. I enabled it and redownloaded mdkinst/usr/bin/perl-install/install2, but the NFS install still dies trying to run mdkinst/usr/bin/runinstall2 On a related note, is there a way I can just update all of the file attributes of my mirror in one quick shot? Cooker PPC Radeon PCI
Hi, I recently installed Mandrake 8.2 on my BW G3 (feat. a Radeon PCI) Everything went fine during startup in text mode. But, when the KDE login screen is supposed to appear, all I get is an error screen. I'v tried both Xpmac and Xfree 4.2.6 at the end of the install process, but the result is the same. Xfree reports the following errors: (EE) RADEON (0) : CANNOT READ V_BIOS (5) (EE) RADEON (0) : [AGP] AGP NOT AVAILABLE (bwahaha!) (EE) RADEON (0) : [DRM] failed to remove DRM signal handler DRIUnlock called when not locked What can I do to get that Radeon working? I can run KDE after replacing the Radeon card by the old R128 and changing Xfree's setup, but it's a little bit annoying to do so... XFdrake and Xpmac
I've used XFdrake and now I can't open X11 cause I get only a black screen. I can't try other configurations cause any time I test it I get the black screen and I've to reset via hardware (and the filesystem isn't happy ;).. So I would like to go back and use Xpmac again, but .. how do I have to do it ? Thanks, Giovanni P.S. About my problem with the internet.. I've found (thanks to a friend) wich was the problem: I must set up, once connected, the default route to ppp0 using the command route add -net default dev ppp0 as super user. The radeon based tiBook that Phil lent me worked quite well, and I updated the installer to support graphical install on it. Some things to look at: See if the agpgart module is being loaded. If not try loading it manually via modprobe. If that helps, make an entry in /etc/modules. Try disabling DRI in /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 Unfortunately, until video card manufacturers feel shipping Linux/X drivers with their cards (PPC versions too), we'll always be playing catchup. PS: By the way, will mandrake ever support (acard) ATA-133 PCI cards ? Since that kind of card is quite common, it would be appreciated to get it supported by Mdk ... I haven't run into too many people that want a dialup connection brought up at boot, but you should be able to alter the scripts in /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts to run that command, or add it in /etc/rc.local to have it run at boot, if that's your desire. weird kde3 problem -- won't launch anything
hi, ok, i broke my kde3... anybody know what causes this one? i get something similar trying to launch any kde app or kde itself. korganizer: relocation error: /usr/lib/libDCOP.so.4: undefined symbol: _ZN14QPtrCollection7newItemEPv A little history... This was an 8.2 setup, with the kde3 from contribs working fine. Then I thought it would be real clever to update the C libs and try out the newer kde3 and some Cooker goodies like Mozilla 1.0. Bad Idea. Now I can only use gdm and Gnome (no kdm). Argh. Anyway, I can't easily re-install because my internal CD drive is dead, and I can't boot off my external USB CD. Too bad, that would be much easier than trying to fix this mess. Also FYI, I'm able to boot a ramdisk and get to the installer, but it won't recognize the USB CD drive (only the dead internal one), so I can only do a network install of Cooker, which fails anyway, because it can't download the packages for some reason. Is there a better way I'm missing? Ha. Shouldn't you just downgrade your glibc and attached packages to solce the problem (did you ?) ? And you could compile the cooker packages you want from cooker on your 8.2. But won't that break a lot of the cooker packages I installed? (I upgraded a bunch, but how many actually need the newer glibc?) -i
Xpmac and french keyboard

ok, it's back. I think. Haven't tried rebooting yet. But downgrading seems to have worked. For the archives: Cooker: don't use it on a machine (or perhaps partition) your life depends on. Seriously, just don't even go there. I was warned and did it anyway. Now I know. Just Don't. Thanks everybody for the tip to downgrade glibc. -i
