Re: [CTRL] Body Bags Readied For Euro Protestors

-Caveat Lector-

Still wonder - it is reported Marc Rich's father made his big money in
burlap bags - for he realized with he war in Korea there would be big
need for body bags - only thing I culd come up with re body bags and
burlap - well story on the Titanic and how the "third class" was brought
home in body bags compared to the more affluen, in coffins..

200 body bags - right out of land of profiteering already - but only 200
bags? Are they for the police or for the protesters?

My these tactics seem all too familiar - on both sides. The peaceful
protesters nornally do ot wear ninjh outfits or mask their faces do they
-

EU does what Hitler tried to do - and the usual suspects.

Body bags - cui bono? Only 200???

British Doc Changes Mind on Abortion-Breast Cancer Link
Source: Coalition on Abortion/Breast Cancer; June 20, 2001

London, England -- It was only last year in an August 14, 2000 issue of
The Times that Thomas Stuttaford, M.D. authored an article entitled, "Can
Abortions Be Linked to Breast Cancer?" In this article, Dr. Stuttaford
reassured British women that abortion is a safe procedure. He declared
that, "As yet there is no evidence of a causative link between abortion
and breast cancer," and he incorrectly added that "none has been claimed
by Professor (Joel) Brind."

Less than a year later, on May 17, 2001 Stuttaford authored another
article for The Times in which he revealed that he had reversed his
position on the abortion-breast cancer research. In an article entitled
"Fresh Line of Attack," he wrote that:

"Breast cancer is diagnosed in 33,000 women in the U.K. each year; of
these, an unusually high proportion had an abortion before eventually
starting a family. Such women are up to four times more likely to develop
breast cancer."

"A report by the Royal Statistical Society shows that a termination of
pregnancy interrupts the cellular changes that occur in the breast during
pregnancy. Once the woman has had children, the effect is less because
the cellular changes have been completed"

Karen Malec, president of the Coalition on Abortion/Breast Cancer, an
international women's organization, offered her comments on this turn of
events by saying that "The British scientific community has consistently
demonstrated far less bias against the abortion-breast cancer research
than has the American scientific community. The British have been far
more willing to publish solid research showing a positive association
between abortion and breast cancer. We invite the American scientific
community to set aside its political ideology in favor of women's health
by objectively evaluating and publishing the scientific research."

The Coalition on Abortion/Breast Cancer is an international women's
organization founded to protect the health and save the lives of women by
educating and providing information on abortion as a risk factor for
breast cancer.

Most oceanographers would probably consider Jacques Cousteau more of
a political and entertainment figure, rather than a serious scientist. Many
scientests are not lying but state their opinion. What is wrong with that?

[CTRL] Help Give Defenders of Scouting Equal TV Time! (fwd)

2001-06-20 Thread Yardbird

The Scouting Legal Defense Fund
*
Action Alert!

We need your help to get equal time on public television for the defenders of Scouting
to tell the Scouts’ side of the controversy over prohibiting openly homosexual men
from serving as scoutmasters.

Last night, June 19, Public Television aired a program, “Scouts Honor,” about this
controversy. This program was largely created by a group of homosexual activists.
Not surprisingly, it was clearly sympathetic to their cause and hostile to the
position of the Scouts. There appears to be no plan by PBS to air a pro-Scout program
to balance this one, certainly not in the near future.

This program was largely funded by a group called the Independent Television Service
(ITVS), an organization that actually is largely taxpayer funded. The taxpayers also
largely support PBS.

We think this taxpayer support means that both organizations have an obligation to
fund and to air a program that gives those of us who defend the Scouts an equal
opportunity to present our side.

If you agree, please take a few minutes to do two things.

First, visit our Website, http://www.defendscouting.com , and send an email to both
PBS and ITVS telling them that as a taxpayer you want them to give the defenders of
Scouting equal support and air time. We have a prepared e-mail message you can quickly
and easily send to each of them.

Second, please forward this e-mail on to others whom you think would support the
Scouts in this way. Again, we provide an easy way on our Web site to send them a
short prepared message asking them to help.

While it is only fair that both sides of this issue should be given equal taxpayer
funded time and resources, the liberal nature of both of these organizations means
that this will not happen unless they hear from thousands of taxpayers like you who
support Scouting.

Thanks for whatever you can do to help Defend Scouting!

Goomongers
Washington Times
Rep. Dana Rohrabacher, a California Republican who turns 54 this week,
was surfing the other day — and not the Internet.
"Most people know that I am one of the few surfers in Congress," the
congressman notes. "Three days ago I was in the ocean surfing off of my
district off Huntington Beach. It was in the Bolsa Chica area and I was
surfing there for two hours. It was a great day for surfing."
Mr. Rohrabacher also scuba dives, calling himself an all-around "ocean
person" who cares greatly about the environment and its stewards. Except when
they lie.
He recalls some 30 years ago being a young reporter assigned to cover a
speech by ocean explorer Jacques Cousteau, "who happened to be one of my
heroes."
"Jacques Cousteau was speaking to these college students, and he was
very pessimistic and I said, 'Gee, I just do not feel right about being so
pessimistic about things in the ocean.´ So, when I came up to him afterwards
to do a short radio interview ... and I said, 'Mr. Cousteau, is not there
some possibility that perhaps the oceans will be used as a source of food for
us in the future beyond just catching fish, like aquaculture and growing
oysters, and clams and lobster? Is that not a possibility?´
"And he just came right up to my face and he said, 'Did you not hear me?
Within 10 years the oceans will be black goo, totally dead, destroyed. The
oceans will be lifeless. Did you not hear me?´
"Of course, I never will forget that," Mr. Rohrabacher says now,
"because this guy got right in my face and he put on a pretty good show for
those kids."
Surfing a few days ago, with "porpoises swimming by and ... the birds
diving into the ocean nearby catching little fish," the congressman wondered
why Mr. Cousteau — and other ecological alarmists of today — have felt they
have "to lie to such a degree."
"Jacques Cousteau was part of a movement," he concluded, "part of a
movement that feels they have a right to lie and they have a right to
frighten people, because they have a higher calling ...
"This is the type of nonsense our young people are being fed in their
schools every day," he says. "They are being lied to in the very same way."

French farmers protest in West Bank

A Frenchman who became a folk hero for ransacking a McDonald's built
near his sheep farm has been arrested again - this time in the West Bank.
Jose Bove lifted his hands and flashed a peace sign to the crowd as he was
put into an Israeli police van along with at least seven others during a
demonstration in the town of el-Khader. More than 100 demonstrators,
including many French farmers, turned up to protest the closure of a Palestinian
road which they say has been closed to allow the settlement of Efrat to expand
over two more hilltops.

Re: [CTRL] PBS Boy Scout + heterophobes

2001-06-20 Thread Andrew Hennessey

-Caveat Lector-

The Film AMERICAN BEAUTY portrayed the homosexual lifestyle as stable and
valid and the hetero guys life as a mess -
I have to confess that I don't know what any lifestyle is even though the
media are trying to change 'traditions' and introduce new perspectives.

It does seem to me though that gays use the word 'homophobe' as a weapon of
war - I would like to see more and more the use of the word HETEROPHOBE
because I can think of numerous instances where it applies yet in all the
politically correct conversations I have had with irate minority gender
people I would be willing to bet that the word HETEROPHOBE hasn't made it
into their paradigm in quite the same conscientious way that the majority
take on their complaints of HOMOPHOBIA.

Has ANYONE ever seen the word HETEROPHOBIA used EVER ?

  From: Mark McHugh
  >Is an individual a homophobe if they do not like the

What exactly IS "the homosexual lifestyle"?
I've known homosexuals who were quite promiscuous, out partying almost
every night and having multiple sexual partners.
I've known heterosexuals who did the exact same thing.
I've known homosexuals who were in a committed relationship, going

[CTRL] U.S. Nuclear War Plan- Time For A Change

2001-06-20 Thread William Shannon
http://www.nrdc.org/nuclear/warplan/execsum.asp

Nuclear Weapons & Waste: In Depth: Report
The U.S. Nuclear War Plan
A Time for Change

Executive Summary

Through the use of personal computers, customized computer software, and
unclassified databases, the Natural Resource Defense Council (NRDC) is now
able to model nuclear conflict and approximate the effects of the use of
nuclear weapons. For the first time, this allows nongovernmental
organizations and scholars to perform analyses that approximate certain
aspects of the U.S. nuclear war plan known as the Single Integrated
Operational Plan (SIOP).

Initiated during the Eisenhower administration, the SIOP is the war plan that
directs the employment of U.S. nuclear forces in any conflict or scenario,
and is the basis for presidential decision-making regarding their use. The
plan results from highly classified guidance from the President, the
Secretary of Defense, and the Joint Chiefs of Staff. The Joint Chiefs of
Staff then set requirements for how much damage our nuclear warheads must
achieve. Most of the requirements call on U.S. Strategic Command to target
Russia, but China and other nations are also viewed as potential adversaries.

The SIOP's logic and assumptions about nuclear war planning influence U.S.
national security policy, arms control strategy, and international politics.
Though the Cold War has ended, and the SIOP has been through a number of
reforms as forces have been reduced, it continues to dictate all matters
concerning the U.S. preparations for nuclear war. It establishes mock nuclear
war scenarios and requirements that shape U.S. negotiating positions in the
Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (START) arms control process. The SIOP also
determines what number of nuclear warheads must be kept at various alert
levels.

As the SIOP is one of the most secret documents in the U.S. government, it is
difficult to discover what the specific assumptions are upon which it rests.
Congress has been powerless to influence the SIOP, and even presidents have
only a superficial understanding of the process of nuclear war planning. The
secrecy is ostensibly justified to protect certain characteristics about U.S.
nuclear forces and warheads, various nuclear weapons effects information, and
the specific targets chosen in Russia. But all of these data are known well
enough today to provide a quite sophisticated approximation of the actual
SIOP assumptions, and the effects of its various nuclear war scenarios. One
of the most significant changes since the end of the Cold War has been the
greater openness in Russia whereby a high quality database of nuclear,
military, and industrial targets can be created using open sources.

Given the central role of the SIOP in national security, nuclear weapons, and
arms control policy, NRDC decided to create a tool that will help the
nongovernmental community assess nuclear war planning and its impacts. We
have compiled our own databases of information on weapons, population,
effects, and targets to recreate the most important calculations of nuclear
war planning. We integrated an enormous quantity of data from open sources,
including commercial data on the Russian infrastructure, official arms
control data about the structure of Russian nuclear forces, declassified U.S.
documents, census and meteorological data, U.S. and Russian maps and charts,
U.S. government and commercial satellite imagery, and U.S. nuclear weapons
effects data and software.

Using these resources, we developed a suite of nuclear war analysis models
based upon the ESRI ArcView software program. From this model and a database
of weapons and targets, we constructed and analyzed in detail two quite
different scenarios of a possible nuclear attack on Russia:

A major U.S. thermonuclear "counterforce" attack on Russian nuclear forces.
For this attack, we employed approximately 1,300 strategic warheads using
current U.S. weapons. We calculated the damage to these targets and the
resulting civilian deaths and injuries.

A U.S. thermonuclear "countervalue" attack on Russian cities. For this
attack, we used a "minimum" force (150 silo-based intercontinental ballistic
missile warheads or 192 submarine-launched ballistic missile warheads). We
assessed the ensuing civilian deaths and injuries.

Fighting Real Nuclear Wars: The Results

We used actual data about U.S. forces and Russian targets to approximate a
major counterforce SIOP scenario. Our analysis showed that the United States
could achieve high damage levels against Russian nuclear forces with an
arsenal of about1,300 warheads -- less than any of the proposals for a START
III treaty. According to our findings, such an attack would destroy most of
Russia's nuclear capabilities and cause 11 to 17 million civilian casualties,
8 to 12 million of which would be fatalities.

Our analysis concluded that in excess of 50 million casualties could be
inflicted upon Russia in a "limited" countervalue attack.

[CTRL] U.S. Covert Ops In The Congo

2001-06-20 Thread William Shannon
http://allafrica.com/stories/200106170005.html

US Army Operated Secretly in Congo

John Kakande

The United States military has been covertly involved in the wars in the
Democratic Republic of Congo, a US parliamentary subcommittee has been told.
Intelligence specialist Wayne Madsen, appearing before the US House
subcommittee on International Operations and Human Rights, also said American
companies, including one linked to former President George Bush Snr, the
father of the current US President, are stoking the Congo conflict for
monetary gains.

In a prepared testimony seen by Sunday Vision, Wayne Madsen, an American
investigative journalist, said on May 17 that US Special forces have been
training troops on both sides of the Congo war. He said US defence has at
times been using Private Military Contractors (PMCs) to engage in these
covert operations because PMCs are far from the reach of congressional
investigators.

Madsen is a specialist on intelligence and was also the author of "Genocide
and Covert Operations in Africa 1993-1999", a work that took him three years
of research and interviews in Rwanda, Uganda, France, the UK, USA, Belgium,
Canada and the Netherlands.

Madsen said the US military worked with Rwanda and the Congolese rebels to
overthrow Mobutu. He said they again supported the rebellion against Laurent
Kabila because "by 1998, the Kabila regime had become an irritant to the
United States, North American mining interests, and Kabila's Ugandan and
Rwandan patrons."

He argued that when Kabila received assistance from other African countries,
the US changed tactics. "US Special Operations personnel were involved in
training troops on both sides of the war in the DRC - Rwandans, Ugandans, and
Burundians (supporting the RCD factions) and Zimbabweans and Namibians
(supporting the central government in Kinshasa," Madsen told the US
congressional subcommittee. Testifying about the Mobutu overthrow, Madsen
said: "One reason why Kabila's men advanced into the city so quickly was the
technical assistance provided by the DIA (US Defence Intelligence Agency)."

[CTRL] N. Korea Brewing Bio-Weapons?

North Korean military's brewery may be for biological weapons

U.S. intelligence agencies are focusing on the construction of a brewery by
the military in North Korea because of the similarities between brewing and
developing biological weapons. Officials said the Taedonggang Brewery will
have a floor space of ten of thousands of square meters and is being built in
Pyongyang by soldiers of the Korean People’s Security Forces — North Korea’s
internal political police.

North Korea has pursued a research and development program related to
biological warfare capabilities for at least 30 years. According to a
Pentagon report on proliferation, its resources, including a biotechnical
infrastructure, “are sufficient to support production of limited quantities
of infectious biological warfare agents, toxins, and possibly crude
biological weapons.”

“North Korea has a wide variety of means available for military delivery of
biological warfare agents,” the report said.

Some intelligence officials believe North Korea would resort to biological
weapons on its long- and medium-range missiles in a conflict to make up for
its lack of nuclear warheads.

[CTRL] OKC & The Enigmatic German Immigrant

about_oklahoma_ci.html

Key to Truth About Oklahoma City Bombing May Be Enigmatic West German
Immigrant

A federal undercover informant, Andreas Strassmeir, was operating alongside
Timothy McVeigh for a long time prior to the Oklahoma bombing. That's the big
secret the major media and the government are keeping under wraps. Slowly but
surely the truth is emerging.

Exclusive to The SPOTLIGHT

By Michael Collins Piper

While the media devoted endless coverage to Timothy McVeigh's execution, the
media censored the fact that growing numbers of bombing survivors and
families of victims doubt that McVeigh acted alone.

Those who doubt McVeigh and the FBI base their suspicions on solid evidence
that continues to emerge-in particular, long-suppressed FBI documents just re
cently uncovered.

Instead of reporting all of this, the me dia provided vast attention to
advocates of the "lone bomber" theory-such as the Anti-Defamation League
(ADL) and the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) of Morris Dees-allowing ADL
and SPLC spokesmen to speculate about other potential terrorists who might
bomb another building in the future. The ADL and the SPLC agree with McVeigh
and the FBI that McVeigh was a "lone bomber."

While the media shifts attention to the grief of those who suffered, the
media ignores devastating evidence that federal undercover agents operated
alongside McVeigh in the bombing, having had him under close surveillance for
probably several years.

The SPOTLIGHT determined long ago that the key to uncovering the truth about
the tragedy lay in unmasking the enigmatic German national Andreas Strass
meir. This, in fact, now seems to be a consensus among a diverse group of
independent investigators including, among others:

o Ex-Oklahoma State Rep. Charles Key;

o Former London Telegraph correspondent Ambrose Evans-Pritchard;

o Journalist J.D. Cash;

o New American editor William Jasper;

o The late Glenn Wilburn and his wife Kathy (who lost two grandchildren in
the bombing); and

o Ex-Marine Colonel Roger Charles (a former producer for ABC's 20/20).
In addition, McVeigh's former attorney, Stephen Jones, as well as his most
recent attorneys, Rob Nigh, Richard Burr, Na than Chambers and Christopher
Tritico, have charged that Strassmeir was a key player in the scenario.

Well-known media figures such as Robert Novak and Sam Francis also raised
questions about Strassmeir.

The evidence indicates that Strassmeir, if not a participant in the bombing
conspiracy, was certainly a longtime deep-cover informant for some federal
agency, whether the FBI, the CIA or the BATF.

ADL FOREKNOWLEDGE

For its own part, The SPOTLIGHT has documented that the aforementioned ADL
had early, inside knowledge of McVeigh's activities, possibly provided by its
contacts in one or more federal agencies, based on data probably provided by
Strassmeir and his close associates.

That Strassmeir was an undercover in formant also suggests that his close
friend and sponsor (and attorney) Kirk Lyons was aware of Strassmeir's status
and was, in fact, his "handler."

Since, for the past eight years, Lyons has been engaged in intelligence
agency-orchestrated efforts to destroy The SPOTLIGHT-predating public reports
of his in volvement with Strassmeir-this adds further fuel to the belief that
Lyons is a deep cover operative with a hidden agenda.

Lyons sounds like McVeigh prosecutor Beth Wilkinson claiming that allegations
about Strassmeir are an "Elvis Presley" theory (referring to the claim that
the singer is still alive).

Along with Lyons, the FBI, the ADL and Morris Dees, it has been elite media
voices such as The New York Times, The Wash ington Post and Newsweek that
have dismissed allegations regarding Strass meir.

Yet, while the Strassmeir connection has been suppressed in the American me
dia, foreign news sources have been more forthcoming.

The June 8 issue of The Times of Lon don featured a revealing story about
Strassmeir, saying that he could be "the missing piece in the puzzle." The
authors clearly believe Strassmeir knows more than he is telling and that
Strassmeir probably was an undercover intelligence operative.

The Times comments that "the syringe that executes McVeigh will also drain
Strassmeir of significance; give him the status of a footnote"-in other
words, eliminate forever the one confessed conspirator who could finger
Strassmeir.

The London newspaper adds revelations pointing toward Strassmeir's strange
connections. For example, it turns out that Strassmeir can read
Hebrew-Israel's state language-as a consequence of having had an Israeli army
girlfriend, "not exactly the typical choice of a neo-Nazi," the Times adds
knowingly.

In addition, the Times notes that when Strassmeir first arrived in this
country that this so-called neo-Nazi extremist "found friends easily-retired
Army officers, CIA veterans, history buffs-and became part of a network"

[CTRL] The Army & Enron

2001-06-20 Thread William Shannon
http://www.boston.com/dailyglobe2/171/nation/Army_looks_to_privatize_utilities

+.shtml

Army looks to privatize utilities

Secretary's ex-firm pursuing contracts

By Sharon Theimer, Associated Press, 6/20/2001

WASHINGTON - The new Army secretary wants to shift control of more military
base utilities into private hands, a multimillion-dollar business that his
former energy company is pursuing.

Army Secretary Thomas White has said he would step away from decisions
involving Enron Energy Services, where he served as vice chairman until this
year, if there was a clear conflict of interest.

The former brigadier general is consulting with lawyers on whether he should
remove himself from Enron-related decisions and is in the process of selling
more than $25 million in company stock, the Army says.

For the last two years, the Pentagon has been seeking to save money by hiring
companies with energy expertise to run the electric, natural gas, and other
utilities on military bases.

White said last week he was frustrated by the slow pace of the program and
wanted to see it accelerated.

Enron has already won one such contract and has a bid pending to run
utilities at several Texas bases.

A military ethics expert questioned White's decision to raise the utility
issue so soon on the job.''

When you have that interest in the past, to bring that up as the very first
thing, I don't think that was a very smart move on his part because, again,
it brings that appearance of conflict,'' said former Army Major Jeffrey
Whitman, an ethics professor at Susquehanna University in Selinsgrove, Pa.

Whitman said White should recuse himself if there is a clear conflict of
interest as defined by federal law - and in any case will have to tread
carefully on Enron issues.

''It certainly gives the appearance of a conflict of interest, and oftentimes
in situations like this, appearances can become reality,'' Whitman said.

White House spokeswoman Claire Buchan said President Bush and the staff
involved in White's nomination were unaware Enron was seeking Army contracts.

Buchan said she was confident White is working with counsel ''to ensure that
he is in full compliance not only with the letter of the ethics laws but with
the spirit of them.''

Houston-based Enron has a bid pending to run utilities at seven Air Force
bases, a naval base, and the Army's Fort Bliss in Texas, company spokeswoman
Peggy Mahoney said.

''I can only say the federal government is one of the largest users of
energy, and so we continually look for ways to offer a product for them,''
she said.

Mahoney said she did not expect White would play a role in decisions on
Enron's contracts.

''We don't anticipate working with him on these issues at all,'' she said.
''It's a very public process and the proposal will stand on its own or not.
It's not his decision ultimately. It's base by base.''

Enron won a $25 million, 10-year contract in 1999 to run natural gas and
other utilities at the Army's Fort Hamilton in Brooklyn, N.Y.

White played an active role in the company's quest, including having Enron
join the Army last fall in rebuffing a lawsuit that challenged the military's
right to spurn local utilities and hire contractors of its choice.

During his first month as Army secretary, White has made clear he wants
faster action on utility contracts.

[CTRL] "Harkengate"

2001-06-20 Thread William Shannon
http://www.onlinejournal.com/Commentary/Hatfield062001/hatfield062001.html

It's time to demand a Senate investigation into Dubya's "Harkengate"

"It must in no way be construed as indicating that the party has been
exonerated or that no action may ultimately result."—A reference to Dubya in
a letter regarding an SEC investigation into possible insider trading

June 20, 2001—Now that the Democrats are once again running the show in the
U.S. Senate, they need to make up for lost time and get down to the real
business of government—spending millions and millions of taxpayer money on
investigative probes and special prosecutors.

Balzac once said, "Behind every great fortune there is a crime." Dubya became
a multimillionaire a couple of years ago because of an insider stock sale he
pulled off almost exactly 11 years to the day.

So if the Republicans can waste our hard-earned money on a multi-year,
multimillion-dollar expanded probe of a losing land proposition in Arkansas,
then it's time to demand an investigation into what I'll coin as "Harkengate."

But before we get to Dubya's financial shenanigans, let's take a quick jaunt
down memory lane to make sure everything is put in its proper perspective. I
just don't want anyone crying "foul" when I demand equal justice,
tit-for-tat, and what's good for the goose is good for the gander payback
time.

The so-called "Whitewater" scandal started with a little real estate deal 20
years ago. In 1978, then-Arkansas Attorney General Bill Clinton and his wife,
Hillary, became limited partners* in a venture with James and Susan McDougal
to buy 220 acres of riverfront land and form the Whitewater Development Corp.
The goal was to sell lots for vacation homes. But the partnership did poorly
and finally dissolved in 1992, leaving the Clintons reporting a net loss of
more than $40,000.

Over time, the investigation known as Whitewater grew well beyond allegations
related to the Clintons' financial and legal dealings in Arkansas. It also
encompassed such unrelated events as the firing of White House travel office
clerks, the 1993 suicide of White House counsel Vincent Foster and his filing
of delinquent Whitewater Corp. tax returns, the collection of hundreds of
confidential FBI files on prominent Republicans by a minor White House
operative in 1993 and 1994, and, of course, the sex scandal involving Cigar
Aficionado poster girl Monica Lewinsky.

The original Whitewater special prosecutor was Robert B. Fiske, Jr., a
moderate Republican selected in January 1994 by Attorney General Janet Reno,
who had the authority to make the appointment because the independent counsel
law had expired.

In August 1994, with the law renewed and Fiske under fire from conservatives
for lacking a pitbull aggressiveness in pursuit of the Clintons, the
three-judge panel in charge of appointing independent counsels abruptly
replaced him with a conservative activist named Kenneth W. Starr. (Starr had
been a top aide in the Reagan Justice Department, a federal appeals court
judge and then solicitor general under the first President Bush.)

Now that I've hopefully jump-started your memories of Whitewater and how it
all spun wildly out of control, let's once again revisit 1990 when the elder
Bush was living in the White House and Dubya was being paid $120,000 a year
(plus extensive stock options) to sit on the board of directors of
Texas-based Harken Energy Corporation.

The small oil company's financial advisers at Smith Barney issued a
detrimental report, expressing urgent concern in the company's rapidly
deteriorating financial standing. (Harken owed more than $150 million to
banks and other creditors while its assets were tied up in a Middle Eastern
drilling venture.)

On June 22, 1990, Dubya abruptly unloaded 60 percent of his Harken
stock—212,140 shares—for a handsome little profit of $848,560, plus some
change. The transaction came a week prior to the end of a quarter in which
the company lost $23.2 million. A quarterly report, issued in August 1990
documented the loss and company stock plummeted to $2.37 per share.

It just goes to show you even a blind squirrel can find an acorn once in
awhile.

Dubya, who sold at $4.12 per share, denied having any inside knowledge at the
time (and to think they called Clinton "Slick Willie"!), although he sat on
Harken's board, its audit committee and a panel looking at corporate
restructuring, which had met in May and worked directly with the Smith Barney
financial consultants.

Dubya's June 1990 transaction was an insider stock sale, but Securities and
Exchange Commission (SEC) records indicate he did not file the required
disclosure form, which was due no later than July 10, until eight months
later. (He later maintained that it was filed on time but the paperwork was
lost by the SEC.)

"I'm very comfortable in looking you in the eye and saying I did nothing
wrong on this," he told the press back

"to the wrath of the state's and the nation's elites, Mississippi voters
on April 17 voted overwhelmingly to keep their state's official flag,
which contains the Confederate Battle Flag" and that is what it is, a
Battle Flag.

A proposal placed on ballot would have removed the Confederate Emblem.

Now is Mississippi they also read "Cincinnati Falls Victim to Domestic

Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton both such model citizens went to
Cincinnati which looked like war zone but they better wake up, for the
white suburbs are armed and very dangerous to those who would inflict
any further acts of violence in their communities surrounding the once
great and late Cincinnati, Ohio.

The Home of Proctor and Gamble.how lovely.

You won't see that bunch rioting in Mississippi.
One has a feeling of protection with that little Confederate Battle Flag
flying above their State House.

Now in Ohio, they let the Gay Priders fly their little flag over our
state house and an old man went to jail, for removing same.

But Gay Pride condemns themselves by their own actions.

Mercenaries; Messiahs of Terror

Expo Times (Freetown)

Issa A. Mansaray
Vienna, Austria

The 'Mercs' as they are known for short, prefer to be called
'military consultants,' or 'military advisors' as in the case of the
South African and United Kingdom 'Executive Outcomes' (EO). Even with
all the colourful names they give to themselves, they are still
considered as 'hired soldiers' or 'contract soldiers' that kill for
gain in countries of conflicts out of their boundaries. The misgiving
about mercenaries is that they sometimes help to fuel conflicts and
can easily switch sides to the highest bidder in any war zone.

Reading magazines, newspapers, and watching TV news on conflicts, the
word mercenary invokes terror and death. According to the 'Soldier of
Fortune magazine', the mercenary profession is the second oldest job
in the world. Mercenaries are considered as foreign soldiers helping
to liberate countries in conflict. However, Mercenaries do not
consider themselves as bloodthirsty soldiers. Many political
observers describe them as 'Soldiers of fortune,' 'Messiahs of
terror' and 'dogs of war'.

Mercenaries' operations in Africa started in the 1960s, with soldiers
like Gilbert Bourgeaud, known as Colonel Bob Denard, 'Mad' Mike
Hoare, 'Black' Jacques Schramme. These 'professional private
soldiers' are known across Africa for their involvement in almost all
the major battlefronts on the continent, from Angola to Democratic
Republic of Congo (former Zaire) to Sierra Leone or Mozambique.

Today's mercenaries want to be respected and called names like
'Contract soldiers,' 'military advisors', or 'military experts'. In
1977, the Organisation of African Unity (OAU) adopted the OAU
Convention for the Elimination of Mercenaries in Africa. This measure
was taken in response to the increasing rate at which mercenaries
were deployed to destabilise the emerging African states at the time.

TERROR

The only thing that seems to be continuous in the 20th and part of
the 21st century has been war, mostly in developing countries. While
the world powers tend to pay more attention to major conflicts such
as in Iraq, Chechnya, Bosnia, and others places around the world,
there are plenty of low-key wars in Africa - Sierra Leone, Angola,
Rwanda, Casamance, DRC, Somalia etc, and military freelancing is now
widespread.

For the past years, mercenaries have been involved in almost all the
conflicts and wars in Africa; the continent is still undermined and
locked in Guerrilla warfare. The horrific images of 'soldiers of
fortune' in conflicts and the aftermath of wars, followed by the
countless number of refugees, does not encourage civilians to support
them. It brings cold feelings to the hearts of many people. Many
argue that their love for money and mining concessions, easily make
them switch sides and unaccountable to any government.

The case of EO's involvement in Angola comes to mind. EO, a spill
over of the South Africa Defense Force (SADF) fought on the side of
rebel leader Jonas Savimbi in Angola, because according to them, they
were told then that communism was evil, but after the cold war, they
realised the truth and fought on the side of the Angola army. They
advised on how to recapture the diamond fields from Savimbi.

Mercenaries in Africa see themselves as messiahs of the people from
colonialism, dictators and rebel factions. Their argument, according
to Col. Rudolf Van Heerden, EO's Operations Commander in Sierra Leone
in 1995, is that: "Africa should not depend on the United Nations to
solve its security problems. Africans must solve their own problems
themselves. Africa is being destabilised by rebel wars and external
influences. Executive Outcomes was formed to neutralize their rebel
wars and counter the influence of negative external forces."

Nevertheless, for the people in the eastern town of Kono in Sierra
Leone, the point is not convincing. When one of its members, Robert
Mackenzie was killed and others injured, EO countered by shooting on
sight any one within their areas of operations (AO) in the diamond
and rutile mining fields. Civilians where mistaken as rebels or
'rebel sympathizers'. The war became more confused. During the war in
Uganda, the government hired a couple of troops and flight pilots
from South Africa to flush the rebels in the north. They left three
months after not been paid, and Joseph Koni's Lord Resistance Army
(LRA) kidnapped 100s of children.

THE MERCENARY BUSINESS

Today, mercenaries in Africa consider themselves businesspersons
first. They make deals through well-established firms around the
world. They undertake specialised services such as intelligence
gathering, military training, personal protection and guarding mining
fields. They are also willing to 'eliminate' enemies of states. In
recent years, they operate as arms purchasing agents for third word
countries. The

Is an individual a homophobe if they do not like the homosexual
lifestyle?

I know that the "-phobe" part of "homophobe" means "fear", from the
Greek noun "phobos". Does dislike now equal fear? Are those who do
not like Scouts now "proskopophobes", those who fear Scouts?

[CTRL] The Day That Anarchy Came To Lithia Springs

2001-06-20 Thread radman

From: "M.A. Johnson" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>

The Day That Anarchy Came To Lithia Springs

by Rob Moody

Government is at best but an expedient; but
most governments are usually, and all
governments are sometimes, inexpedient.
The objections which have been brought against
a standing army, and they are many and weighty,
and deserve to prevail, may also at last be
brought against a standing government.
  ~ Henry David Thoreau

Something remarkable happened last week in Lithia Springs,
a town of 2,072 just west of Atlanta: The city council
held its last meeting before dissolving the city
government. In March, residents voted overwhelmingly to
dissolve the town. According to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution,
"The referendum that ended the town was part of the settlement
in a lawsuit brought by city residents charging the city
should be dissolved because it didn't deliver enough services
to justify its existence under state law. [If you live in a
small town in Georgia and have some time on your hands,
this sounds like a tremendous opportunity to strike a blow
for liberty. And for those of you working in police anti-gang
units, note how Lithia Springs got rid of its gang.]
Incorporated in 1882, Lithia Springs was dissolved the
first time in 1933. Since reincorporating in 1994, it has
had five mayors and one scandal: Former Mayor Rosa Mary
Johnson in 1998 pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor theft charge
for using city money to buy personal items." No surprise
there, as criminals are attracted to gangs.

What is a surprise (at least for most people) is that
although anarchy now reigns in Lithia Springs, chaos does
not. My dictionary defines anarchy as "Absence of any form
of political authority," while chaos is defined as "A state
or place of total confusion or disorder." I can't count
the number of times I've heard some Republican law-and-order
type reject a proposal to expand the sphere of liberty by
saying, "But then we'd have anarchy," when what they mean
to say is, "But then we'd have chaos." The word anarchy
has gotten a bad rap, not only by being substituted for
chaos, but by its use by left-wing anarchists, who I
believe actually want the opposite of anarchy. What do most
people think of when they hear the word anarchy? I think of
some guy throwing a bomb, or chaos in the streets. As
libertarians, we need to reclaim and rehabilitate that
word before it becomes unusable.

Even in its death throes, the Lithia Springs City Council
tried to squander the taxpayers' money. As one of their last
official acts, council members tried to give $26,000 to a youth
baseball organization and $28,000 to the local fire station,
but the city attorney told them that such donations were
illegal. And rather than return the money that it had
confiscated from residents, the council turned over the
city government's assets ($326,000 in cash, a Ford Explorer
and office furniture) to the Douglas County government,
its partner in crime.

According to the AJC, "Councilman Joe Meekes expressed
disappointment, saying that the town council could have
improved life there had it a few more years." If only they had
more time, if only they had more money, if only they had the
right people, if only they could crack a few more skulls.
Meekes said, "It's all over now but the crying. I'm not
going to cry but I feel sorry for the community." Hey Joe,
do us all a big favor and crawl back under the statist rock
you crawled out from.

As we hurtle downhill on this toboggan ride to tyranny,
it's heartening to hear about a victory for liberty,
however small it may be. One down, ten thousand more to go.

[CTRL] Cyber War Declared on World Bank

2001-06-20 Thread radman

-Caveat Lector-

Published on Wednesday, June 20, 2001 in the Guardian of London

Cyber War Declared on World Bank
by John Vidal and Charlotte Denny

Protesters threatened last night to use "cyber sit-ins"
to derail a high-profile development
conference organized by the World Bank, after the
Washington-based body announced it
would hold the conference online to avoid demonstrations.

The bank is the latest casualty of the increasingly
violent climate surrounding international
summits since protesters disrupted global trade talks in
Seattle at the end of 1999. It
decided to hold its annual conference on development
economics on the internet after
thousands of protesters threatened to descend next week
on Barcelona, the original venue.

But the emerging anti-globalization protest movement
warned that a virtual conference was
just a vulnerable as a live gathering.

"One skilled IT protester could easily crash the whole
event. It may be seen as a challenge
to scupper the conference", said one protester/hacker who
specializes in IT protests.

Cyber-protest is a well-developed tool of protest groups
who use computers to exchange
  information, organize demonstrations and bombard
political leaders with demands.
Greenpeace has more than 100,000 supporters prepared to
use their computers as a
protest weapon and claims numerous successes persuading
corporations to change
policies after subjecting them to a barrage of email.

"If the bank wants contributions to this conference from
around the world then they could
regret this," said Roger Higman of Friends of the Earth.
Earlier this year the pressure group
brought down the White House website several times with
more than 100,000 people
protesting against President Bush's stance on climate
change.

The bank admitted that the internet conference could also
be besieged by groups opposed
to its economic prescriptions for third world economies.
The sessions will be interactive,
allowing participants to email questions to the speakers,
but also providing an opportunity
  for protesters to attack.

"We've taken reasonable precautions but if there is a
major effort to close us down, I can't
promise that the computers will hold up," said a bank
spokesman.

If the protesters succeed in disrupting the conference,
"that will reflect badly on them and
their attitude towards free speech and freedom of
discussion," he added. The topic of the
conference is Globalization, Poverty and Wealth.

Globalize Resistance, a socialist group which intends to
take thousands of people to Genoa
for next month's G8 meeting, said: "We can still party in
Barcelona and have more fun than
if we were in front of computer screens. They can run,
but they cannot hide."

The bank's annual meeting in Prague last September was
surrounded by thousands of
protesters who battled with the police.

Explaining the decision to abandon the Barcelona event, a
World Bank spokeswoman,
Caroline Anstey, said: "A conference on poverty reduction
should take place in a peaceful
atmosphere free from heckling, violence and intimidation."

Failing the "Perception Test"

PBS routinely ignores its own rules in allowing conservative/Republican
propagandists surreptitious, unacknowledged access to its network This
article reprinted with the permission of Current, where it first appeared
in June, 2001.

by Jerry M. Landay

WASHINGTON, DC, JUNE, 2001-- THERE'S A SYSTEM FAILURE AT PBS.
The network routinely ignores its own underwriting guidelines, distributing
programs marked by singularly close ties among conservative funders,
producers, interview participants and political content. In the deal,
conservative foundations gain access to the public air to showcase their
own beneficiaries, push narrow
ideological agendas, influence public opinion and move public policy to the
right. They get help from CPB and PBS, which have co-funded partisan
conservative offerings. Corporately funded fare is welcome, but bids for
public-affairs airtime by independent producers and advocates perceived as
too "liberal" are not. The NPR political commentary roster also has
reflected substantial editorial influence by the organized right.
A commotion in 1999 provides an illustrative comparison. Newspapers
reported a lapse by Bill Moyers in his PBS documentary on campaign reform,
"Free Speech for Sale." Three interview participants had links with
public-interest groups that received grants from the Florence and John
Schumann Foundation, which has Moyers as president. Usually scrupulous
about separating his grantmaking from his journalism, he confessed to the
oversight. It hadn't "crossed my mind," Moyers admitted. "It should have
occurred to me to identify [this]. Next time, I'll be sure to do so."
"More evidence," the Wall Street Journal intoned, "of the need for PBS to
feature a warning label about bias."
That would be a grand idea, if "bias" labels were imposed and administered
evenhandedly. The conservative movement barraged Moyers over his mistake.
Under the headline "Journalism or Favoritism," FreeRepublic.com, a
self-described "Conservative News Forum," complained that Moyers uses "his
control over money and media to influence public policy." Prof. David L.
Schaefer, a political scientist at College of the Holy Cross who has
written on the matter for the Claremont Institute for the Study of
Statesmanship and Political Philosophy, also questioned the links between
the Schumann Foundation and TomPaine.com, the web site of news and opinion
edited by Moyers' son John. "The ethical conflict-of-interest tangle
grows," Schaefer wrote. Let's compare this "tangle" with the conservative
movement's orchestrated campaign of meshing money with organizations,
agendas and personalities that influence public opinion and policy. The
Claremont Institute, as it happens, is just one cog in this integrated
constellation of activist groups amply funded by three major foundations
(with assists from a handful of less-known benefactors)--the Lynde and
Harry Bradley Foundation of Milwaukee, the John M. Olin Foundation of New
York, and the Scaife family foundations of Pittsburgh. I'll call them "BOS"
for short.
The treasuries of BOS essentially have underwritten the rise of movement
conservatism since the early '80sin part by providing millions in
coordinated grants to shape media content. BOS-funded programs on PBS
regularly showcase conservative panelists, hosts and interviewees who are
also beneficiaries of BOS funding. The connections are unacknowledged.
Unlike Moyers' single slip, the conflict of interest by conservative
funders and producers is ongoing. Does PBS follow the money? "I don't
know," senior programmer John Wilson told me. "I don't really track it that
way." The "perception test" is the cornerstone of PBS's underwriting
guidelines: public television "must reinforce the accurate perception that
it is a free and independent institution." To protect its journalistic
integrity, the system is supposed to screen public-affairs funders by
asking: "Has the underwriter exercised editorial control? Might the public
perceive that the underwriter has exercised editorial control?"
As a routine matter, BOS-funded productions fail to meet the perception
test. An informal scan through PBS public-affairs offerings from 1992 to
the present turns up at least 17 instances in which a single program or
continuing series underwritten or co-funded by BOS served as a platform for
the views of BOS grantees and their organizations. There were no "warning
labels about bias." CPB used taxpayers' money to co-fund 10 of them with
PBS. On public radio, meanwhile, NPR frequently airs contributions from
political commentators with close ideological ties to BOS. Their
organizational links to BOS-funded objectives are similarly unacknowledged.
Conservative involvement in media is widespread, relentlessly focused and
intense. It is dedicated to the tenet that ideas have consequences. Under
BOS patronage, these consequences have powered t

[CTRL] Robots raise issue of what 'alive' is

Robots raise issue of what 'alive' is

If you're a science-fiction buff, you've heard of Isaac Asimov's Three Laws
of Robotics. They state: 1) A robot may not injure a human being, or,
through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm; 2) A robot must obey
the orders given it by human beings, except where such orders would conflict
with the First Law; and 3) A robot must protect its own existence, except
where such protection would conflict with the First or Second Law.

That's pretty clever stuff, and as a boy growing up on novels such as
Asimov's "The Caves of Steel" and Jack Williamson's "The Humanoids," I
always assumed that by 2000 or so, such laws would be needed. It seemed
obvious that technology would produce mechanical devices that could do the
heavy lifting, while we organic beings led a life of leisure. No more
drudgery for 21st-century man!

It never occurred to me that the first home robot would be a battery-powered
lawn mower. Robomower was designed by an Israeli company called Friendly
Robotics (http://www.friendlyrobotics.com) To use it, you lay a navigation
wire around the plot to be mowed and let the robot's sensors navigate as it
cuts and mulches your grass.

Yet though Friendly Robotics has an energizing motto ("Mission: To Be the
Leader in Home Robotics"), it's clear that the $795 Robomower is a long way
from human-style awareness, much less independent action.

Much the same can be said about the industrial robots that spray parts, weld
joints and insert chips in manufacturing settings around the world. They can
do one thing only, and they have little flexibility in adapting to changing
circumstances.

But interesting things are happening on the robotics front. Consider a
company called Cybermotion (http://www.cybermotion.com) A glance at its Web
site reveals CyberGuard, a robotic security system that patrols warehouses,
factories or other industrial areas, up to 15 miles per night. CyberGuard's
sensors can identify smoke, industrial spills and the presence of intruders.

Down inside CyberGuard is a computer that uses dead reckoning and what the
company describes as "uncertainty modeling" and "fuzzy logic" to help it
learn and adapt. Approximately 100 instructions direct the robot and control
its subsystems, connecting to a base station that monitors its progress.
CyberGuard can be sent on pre-designed pathways or it can be set to operate
without human intervention, navigating around obstacles with ease.

CyberGuard is out there doing its stuff as we speak. In fact, a U.S. Army
performance assessment report in 1999 gave the security robot its highest
rating for quality and service. The Army has bought a number of them to keep
an eye on warehouses, and so have major pharmaceutical companies such as
GlaxoSmithKline, Bayer and Novartis.

Only in the most general sense can CyberGuard be described as "humanoid"; in
fact, it looks sort of like an overhead projector on wheels.

But ongoing work at MIT by the Humanoid Robotics Group is delving deeply
into the question of how to create a humanoid robot that not only operates
independently but also manages to have a social life of sorts with people.

One project is called Kismet, an experiment with facial expression and body
posture that would allow man/machine interactions to be more intuitive.
Kismet is basically a robotic head that uses vocalizations and facial
expressions driven by 21 motors to convey information. Kismet's face is
remarkably expressive, with "eyes" that swivel and "lips" that convey a wide
range of "feelings."

Another MIT project, called Cog, is an attempt to build a humanoid robot
that approximates the dynamics of the human body. Already given adaptive,
lifelike arms, Cog's hands are being developed now (no legs as yet, though
MIT has another group working on the specifics of leg articulation).
Ultimately, COG is about the blend of hardware with artificial intelligence,
to create a robot that learns not by instruction but by trial and error.

Run with a certain puckish humor by computer science professor Rodney A.
Brooks, the Cog project has its own answer to Asimov's laws.

As Brooks says on the project Web site: "The truth is that our lab focuses
on building robots that are as human as possible. Even if we were successful
in all of our goals (which is, in technical terms, 'not likely'), the robot
would have no 'super-human' abilities. It would be no more likely to take
over the world than, say, Pulitzer-Prize winning film critic Roger Ebert."

But in a more serious vein, Brooks puts his work in this light: "My burning
question is what is it that lets matter transcend itself to become living."
And though that has always been a philosophical question, it's now one that
enters the world of engineering in this fascinating work. You can read mo

Poor J2. He can't get beyond that meaningless, imaginary conflict
between "left" and "right." He just can't seem to understand that
the real conflict is between those who will accept a Police State
and those who loathe it.

That rag tag collection of mostly dunderheads "protesting" the
emerging Euro State consisted of vegetarians; nationalists; genetically
modified crop protestors; agriculture subsidy demonstrators; anti death
penalty agitators; globaloney warming speculators; skinheads; anti
Israel- pro Palestinian advocates; Albanian mafia agitators; AIDS activists;
Algerian Islamic revolutionaries; and McDonald haters.

Out of all those protestors, only a very few anarchist actually rioted...the
rest were mainly occupied in mooning George Bush II and taking
photos of each other asses.

Re: [CTRL] Communist Rules for Revolution

Communist Rules for Revolution

Claim: A list of "Communist Rules for Revolution" was discovered by Allied
forces in Germany in 1919.
Status: False.

Example:

Communist Rules for Revolution
In May 1919 at Dusseldorf, Germany, the allied forces discovered a copy of
these 'Rules.' They were first printed in the United States in the
'Bartlesville (Oklahoma) Examiner-Enterprise' the same year, 1919.

Almost 20 years later, in 1946, the attorney general of Florida obtained
them from a known member of the Communist Party, who acknowledged that the
'Rules' were then still a part of the Communist program for the United
States.

1. Corrupt the young; get them away from religion. Get them interested in
sex. Make them superficial; destroy their ruggedness.

2. Get control of all means of publicity, thereby:

3. Get people's minds off their government by focusing their attention on
athletics, sexy books, plays and immoral movies.

4. Divide the people into hostile groups by constantly harping on
controversial matters of no importance.

5. Destroy the people's faith in their natural leaders by holding the latter
up to contempt, ridicule and disgrace.

6. Always preach true democracy, but seize power as fast and as ruthlessly
as possible.

7. By encouraging government extravagance, destroy its credit, produce years
of inflation with rising prices and general discontent.

8. Incite unnecessary strikes in vital industries, encourage civil disorders
and foster a lenient and soft attitude on the part of government toward such
disorders.

9. Cause breakdown of the old moral values - honesty, sobriety,
self-restraint, faith in the pledged word, ruggedness.

10. Cause the registration of all firearms on some pretext, with a view to
confiscate them and leaving the populace helpless.

Origins: A time-honored ploy in the political arena has been to discredit
your opponents (and their ideas) by demonizing them, by associating them
with . . . well, demons. In the twentieth century, this has usually meant
claiming that the ideas your opponents advocate were implemented by Nazis or
Communists, or were recognized by them as means of "softening up" a country
and making it ripe for totalitarian takeover. So, for example, if you oppose
gun registration, or you think we the films industry should be more heavily
regulated to prevent it from corrupting our youth, just point to this
document and proclaim that the Communists came to power in Russia because
the previous government had imposed the mandatory registration of firearms
and allowed callow youth to idle away their time watching "immoral movies."

As shown in the example above, this document is usually claimed to have been
discovered "in May 1919 at Dusseldorf, Germany, by allied forces" and "first
printed in the United States" in the Bartlesville, Oklahoma
Examiner-Enterprise. Although the Examiner-Enterprise is a real newspaper,
none of this rings true. Language about getting the young "interested in
sex" and focusing their attention on "sexy books" and fretting about the
"registration of all firearms" sound out of place for 1919. Even if this
document really had been found in 1919, it's unlikely Americans would have
found it alarming back then, when the German hun was still a much bigger
bogeyman than the Russian communist. And not surprisingly, nobody has ever
managed to turn up the mysterious issue of Examiner-Enterprise that
supposedly printed it. When columnist Bob Greene checked out this piece with
Russian specialists at the University of Chicago and Northwestern University
in the mid-1980s, they said the list was "a total fraud," "an obvious
fabrication," and "an implausible concoction of American fears and phobias."
(Greene also wrote: "I always wanted to meet a communist who was carrying
the list around, so I could ask him what 'obloquy' means.")

When The New York Times ran an article on this piece way back in 1970, it
had already been circulating for about twenty-five years. The Times reported
that neither the National Archives, the Library of Congress, nor university
libraries had a copy of any such document. When Montana senator Lee Metcalf
looked into the issue back then, he checked with the FBI, CIA, and the
Senate Internal Security Subcommittee; found that "exhaustive research" had
proved the rules to be "completely spurious"; and noted that "the extreme
right also follows rules, one of which is to make maximum use of false,
misleading and fear-inspiring quotations." Nonetheless, numerous
Congressional members received copies of the rules list from alarmed
constituents and, believing that nobody else was yet aware of them,
continued to insert them into the Congressional Record.

The earliest known publication of these rules was in the periodical Moral
Re-Armament in February 1946, and circulation of the

I know what you mean...it's like those upper class politically correct
twits who want to remove books like 'Huckleberry Finn' or anything by a
"dead white male" from the classrooms. The very idea that a student hard

PS Tenorlove never mentioned censorship - what she did state was that she
wasn't going to watch the gay-themed programming. Isn't this what you June
and others have long demanded? That persons opposed to the subject matter
of a movie or tv show let their feelings be made known by not viewing the
offending materual and also by NOT imposing censorship on those who do
choose to watch such programmes?

-Caveat Lector-

Way back in late 1960 period, Henry Taylor wrote a column and he had
called Americans victims of the "experimentors and the
experimetees"..at the time I was not sure what he meant.

But he wrote also - that the kids were giving the old Mafia Dons (Mafia
dons are black ops of CIA and Mossad - contract killers who used to only
kill each other now they hired McVeights to do inside jobs).so,
these Mafia Dons were very very upset for the kids giving them a fit
for they were selling their own home grown pot, instead of Meyer
Lansky's henchmen (one who was a doctor) running the show.

Kids were being murdered to by these people - one in our area found dead
in his home was warning and Larry Flynt who used pornography as front
for drugs - well that was the story - wqs gunned down for they did not
want the new kid on block.

The War on Drugs is War on the Kidsand they hae killed and
imprisoned many kids who dared to sell a little home grown pot.

In Columbus this one prominent Mafia associated pig tried to bribe a
friend of mine, a pilot, to do a little smuggling for him - strange, the
one guy got caught at the airport with millions of dollars in drug money
are ready for a payoff - he turned states evidence and got off scott
free but lost like Clinton, his right to practice law

This pig wanted this man, a USAF Officer engged in fighting a war - to
smuggle for him?

No the Mafia Dons went after the kids with a vengance and made the
criminals while Meyer Lansky's son went to West Point?

Meyer Lansky's henchment, including some doctors involved in murder
with ties in government - one an assistant county coroner - protected by
County Prosecutor - the kids were going to jail and these bastards were
out cauisng the kids to be murdered?

Meyer Lansky came to town often then - Columbus, Ohio - home of
Klebold's Grandfather...nice people.

War of Drugs is War on Kids - War on our People to protect the Don's
family business - that of drugs, pornography, and any garbage you find
in the world incuding TV as of late, you find this vicious sadistic
element behind the scenes

The Mafia Dons do not want competition in the drug trafficking; however,
to day they have bought into the drug companies and now push their
poison through the AMA?

[CTRL] Israel purchases 50 F-16 warplanes Despite US Investigation (fwd)

2001-06-20 Thread Yardbird

-Caveat Lector-

Israel purchases 50 F-16 warplanes Despite US Investigation

Palestine Media Center - PMC

20 June 2001

Israeli Minister of “Defense” Benyamin Ben-Eliezer struck a deal with
Lockheed Martin to purchase more than 50 additional F-16I fighter jets.
This comes as a follow up of Israel’s initial order of 50 such jets in
1999. The first batch cost approximately 2.5 billion US Dollars (USD). The
deal was reached in the Paris Air Show, where various air plane
manufacturers fiercely competed for such large contracts. Ben-Eliezer left
three days ago to Paris for the show.

Prior to the announcement, senior Israeli Air Force officials had
announced their consideration of purchasing some F-15I fighter jets as
part of the next batch. However, it is not clear whether the announced
order includes any F-15I fighter jets. F-16I fighter jets cost
approximately half the price of F-15I’s. Despite the cost discrepancy,
F-16I jets are considered one of the most advanced fighter-bombers in the
world.

The deal will cost 2 billion USD and will be mostly financed through the
almost 2 billion USD in annual American military aid to Israel. Deliveries
will commence in 2006 and conclude in 2009.

The Israeli Ministry of “Defense” issued a statement yesterday announcing
the new deal. “This order is another significant development that
continues the long heritage of cooperative programs between the government
of Israel and Lockheed Martin Corporation. It reinforces the significant
defense capability provided by Israel’s air force, which relies on the
F-16 as the backbone of its fighter aircraft fleet.”

United Technologies’ Pratt and Whitney will provide the F-16I engines and
the final assembly will be in the Lockheed and Martin facilities in Fort
Worth, Texas. Lockheed and Martin announced that its share of the F-16I
deal would be 1.3 billion USD.

According to the Jerusalem Post, the “Defense” Minister’s office issued a
statement quoting Ben-Eliezer as saying, “the long-range attack jets would
give the government [of Israel] to take far-reaching risks for peace”.

The Israeli Air Force already prides itself of the largest F-16 fleet in
the world after the United States. Currently, Israel has 320 F-16 fighter
jets received or ordered. Equipped with a highly advanced US-made radar
system, the new F-16I jets will be able to strike as far as Libya and
Iran.

Following Israel’s F-16 air strike against Palestinian targets in Ramallah
and Nablus in May, US Representative John Conyers Jr., a Michigan Democrat
asked the US General Accounting Office (GAO) to conduct an investigation.
The attack, which leveled a prison and other Palestinian security
buildings, killed 14 Palestinians and injured tens others. On June 11, the
GAO confirmed that it had begun an investigation into Israel’s use of F-16
fighter jets against Palestinian targets. The investigation will examine
whether Israel’s use of F-16 fighter jets diverged from the terms under
which the United States sells air drafts and other military weapons.

In his late May visit, Israeli President Moshe Katsav lobbied Congress for
an additional 800 million USD in aid. It remains unclear whether Congress
will approve such an increase when it discusses foreign aid later this
summer.

Jewish settlers resort to amulets for protection on the roads

Occupied Jerusalem: 20 June, 2001 (IAP News) - Jewish settlers are
increasingly resorting to wearing amulets prepared by prominent Jewish
rabbis to ward off danger of Palestinian attacks, the Israeli press
reported of late.

Earlier this week, the Israeli state-run radio reported that settlers at
the illegal Gush Katif settlement bloc in the Gaza Strip purchased a large
number of amulets from Rabbi Mordechai Elyahu.

The amulets reportedly contain special prayers pasted on a piece of nylon
as well as other enigmatic Jewish symbols, which the rabbi assured users
would render bullets and explosives ineffective.

Some settlers complained of late that they didn't have sufficient spiritual
resilience to make them withstand Palestinian pressure.

Re: [CTRL] PBS Boy Scout show blasted

2001-06-20 Thread Aleisha Saba

-Caveat Lector-

Tenorlove - they are using the same script put out by these sodomites
who have standard line.proper manners now, you never take for
granted a boy or girl are normal - you must assume they could be a
lesbian or homosexual.

So let the sodomites form their own little boy scouts - put the little
boys in the girl scouts, and the little girls in the boy scouts and let
them do as they please - but they might have a problem.

But it is a standard script and one must see how very well orchestrated
it is; however when massive psychology is being used to promote sodomy,
it is ineffective when people know what is going on and how psychology
is being used.

Rosie O'Donnell prancing with Sesame Street characters living with her
lesbian playmate with adopted children? So many screams in the night
by the one child police called several times and were told "I am Rosie
O'Donnell and I am a forster mother".but that kid screamed so much
and poor Rosie needed some spin - first it ws reported she had cancer,
then her hand or finger almost amputated because of an accident - and oh
this lesbian saved her finger by sending night in hospital with her.

Well it won't work - they read from same song book and same script and
some of that stuff in this show on BRAVO I saw and word for word, it was
on the web yesterday put out by this Gay Pride bunch...where when
you meet a new boy or girl, you must presume that - hey do you have a
girlfriend or do you have a boyfriend.

The sodomy laws however are still being enforced; what people do with
their lives is of no concern to me, until this element decides to go
after the cub scouts.

Note the ADL is pushing for this - but they also pushed Clinton with a
little nudge money to pardon Marc Rich - so how is that for integrity?
Ellen cutsie pooh came out of her closet and lost her
show..evidently these sodomites to not realize how absolutely
disgusting and repulsive they are, when they push their programs making
little kids their target?

As for sodomites in our government - well little Barney Frank got caught
with his male prostitutes on the payroll - and the Democrat Party now
waves the Gay Pride Flag and booed the boy scouts at their convention?

Oliver Stone arrested with Hash? Runing with Larry Flynt?

Take George Wallace and Larry Flynt - both stood up for America but both
were also gunned down..same element did it - but for different
reasonsthis is organized crime taking over America with their
illegal tax free money.

In order to get complete control they must corrupt an entire generation
of kids.

So now AIDS is spread as a polite form of Genocide? Got to have
someone to blame for this sudden plague upon us.

Notice the locust has returned to Russia - another type of a plague -
may from God, with Love -

These people had their grand experiment at Littleton..see how the
enemy arms up and would take away arms from the innocents? Why all the
better to slaughter you, my dear.this sodomist element contamainates
everything thing it touches but first they must corrupt and contaminate
the children.

More plagues on the way, no doubt; Behold the Dead Trojan Horse. Died
from "love".

LEADING THE NEWS

AIDS Drug Maker Sponsors 'Gay Pride' Promotion
(CNSNews.com) - The world's largest supplier of AIDS-fighting drugs is sponsoring a
Gay Pride Month guide, creating a paradox, some say, by endorsing the homosexual
behavior that can be a leading contributor to the spread of HIV in the U.S. For the
first time, pharmaceutical giant GlaxoSmithKline is backing the nationwide
celebrations with the "Pride Guide 2001," a listing of events posted on the Web site
of the homosexual newsmagazine The Advocate.

Republican Victory in Virginia Boosts GOP Majority in US House
(CNSNews.com) - Republicans are hailing the victory of one of their own in Tuesday's
special election to fill the House seat of a conservative Democrat, the late Norman
Sisisky, who died in March. Republican Randy Forbes defeated Democrat Louise Lucas in
Virginia's fourth congressional district. The election that drew national attention as
a possible harbinger of things to come in the 2002 congressional election.

Democrats Attack Michigan GOP on Redistricting
(CNSNews.com) - In Michigan, where Democrats have won nine of the last 11 U.S. Senate
races and voted in the Democratic column in the last three presidential elections, the
Democratic Party is crying foul now that Republicans will decide the fate of future
congressional districts and how new political boundaries will be re-drawn. Michigan
has been declining in population for close to 30 years, and its 16-seat House
delegation will decline to 15 because of redistricting mandated by the 2000 Census.

Legislation Would Restrict Indian Gaming Growth
Capitol Hill (CNSNews.com) - Rep. Frank Wolf (R-Va.) has introduced legislation that
aims to curb the growth of the gambling industry by giving state governments more of a
say in whether to allow casinos in their communities. The bill -- the Tribal and Local
Communities Relationship Improvement Act - also would create a federal commission to
decide minimum standards in American Indian facilities.

Environmental Group Wants Oceans Protected As 'Wilderness'
(CNSNews.com) - At least five percent of the world's oceans should be designated as
legally protected wilderness, a Washington, D.C.-based environmental group urged on
Tuesday. "Our ocean territory is the 'other America,' one that we don't protect or
value enough," said Roger Rufe, president of the Ocean Conservancy, formerly called
the Center for Marine Conservation.

Profile: Health Care Binds Secretary and Mrs. Thompson
Madison, Wisconsin (CNSNews.com) - Wisconsin's former first couple, famous for their
hectic careers and commuter marriage, are now at least focused on the same topic --
health care. U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Tommy Thompson has gained most
of the notoriety, but his wife, a former teacher, cancer survivor and determined
health care advocate, is now stepping into the spotlight.

Coalition Seeks Agreement on Faith-Based Initiatives
Capitol Hill (CNSNews.com) - Former political rivals Sen. Rick Santorum (R-Pa.) and
former Sen. Harris Wofford (D-Pa.), who lost his U.S. Senate seat to Santorum in 1994,
teamed up Tuesday to announce plans for a coalition hash out concerns raised by the
Bush administration''s faith-based and community initiatives proposal. Santorum called
the coalition, which includes a wide-range of political and religious organizations, a
"bipartisan working group that will seek to find common ground in the discussion of
faith-based and community organizations and their roles in reaching out to distressed
communities and helping those in need..."

[CTRL] Heavy Consumption Of Tainted Fish Curbs Adult Learning And Memory

Heavy Consumption Of Tainted Fish Curbs Adult Learning And Memory

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. — PCB-laden fish from Lake Michigan affect not only
young children but also adults over age 49, researchers say. Many of the
former big eaters of sport-caught fish now have high levels of
polychlorinated biphenyls in their blood and problems with learning and
memory.

Since 1992, researchers, led by Susan L. Schantz of the University of
Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine, have studied Lake Michigan fish-
eaters, many of whom regularly had eaten more than 24 pounds of sport-
caught fish a year. The researchers’ latest findings show that the heavy
eaters who are now over age 49 have problems learning and remembering
new verbal information.

"This study suggests, for the first time, that PCB body burdens in adulthood
may be associated with impairments in certain aspects of memory and
learning," Schantz said. "The focus has been almost exclusively on
increased health risks of exposure to children and pregnant women. It had
been assumed that mature adults are less susceptible than are developing
fetuses. This may not be the case." PCBs were widely used – until banned
in the late 1970s – as electrical insulators and lubricants and as extenders
in paints and varnishes. The chemicals decompose slowly and are virtually
non-biodegradable. Large quantities remain in older electrical equipment
still in use. In the Great Lakes, PCBs make their way up the food chain and
accumulate at increasing levels in fatty tissue. The new study by
researchers at four institutions is to go on line June 5 and appear in print in
the June issue of Environmental Health Perspectives, a journal of the
National Institutes of Health. They also found elevated levels of DDE (a
breakdown product of DDT), lead and mercury in the heavy fish-eaters, but
the only negative effects were tied to blood serum levels of PCBs.

Fish-eaters with high blood PCB levels had difficulties recalling a story told
just 30 minutes earlier. They also were less likely than their less-exposed
peers to cluster words given orally into categories based on their meaning
to boost recall, said Schantz, a professor of toxicology in the department of
veterinary biosciences. Researchers used the Weschsler Memory Scale
and the California Verbal Learning Test, both standard tools for measuring
cognitive abilities.

In the 1990s, Drs. Joseph and Sandra Jacobsen of Michigan’s Wayne
State University reported that exposure to low levels of PCBs disrupted
fetal brain development, leading to neurological abnormalities and learning
disabilities, including memory deficits, in affected children.

Schantz previously reported that high levels of PCBs in adult fish-eaters
resulted in barely a hint of problems with fine motor skills such as dexterity
and hand steadiness. In the latest work, researchers also did not find
statistically significant problems with many other cognitive abilities, such as
executive function (planning and attention) and visual-spatial function.

Researchers in the study were from the UI, Michigan State University, the
State University of New York at Albany and the University of Texas Health
Science Center at Houston.

DrugSense FOCUS Alert #213 Tuesday, June 19, 2001

The Canadian government may not pursue the drug war as ruthlessly as
the United States, but Canadian politicians aren't immune from drug war
stupidity. As the National Post reported last week, new banking rules
will
put many Canadian citizens under suspicion as money-launderers.

National Post columnist Terence Corcoran noted: "The common thread
running through these money-laundering and other anti-crime laws
around the
world leads straight to Washington and the most futile crime crusade
since
prohibition: the war on drugs. Hundreds of billions of dollars, global
prosecution regimes and out of control police actions are doing little to
stop the drug trade. But they are lining the pockets of bureaucrats and
police workers and laying the groundwork for institutionalized state
control."

Please write a letter to the National Post to say that the US, with its
mixture of high drug abuse rates and high incarceration rates, is no role
model for drug policy.

ONE STEP CLOSER TO A POLICE STATE

Claiming to be fighting a valiant war on crime, governments around the
world -- but especially in Canada -- are actually fighting an escalating
war on people. This includes Ottawa's draconian "money-laundering"
regulations. If you send $15,000 in cash to pay for your grandmother's
hip
replacement at a U.S. hospital, your name will go on the list of potential
money launderers. Privacy? Freedom? Guilt? Innocence? Forget it.
Under some
definition, sending cash into the U.S. health-care system probably is
money
laundering.

Another manifestation of Ottawa's war on people at the expense of
individual freedom is Bill C-24, a law to fight organized crime.
Introduced last April, C-24 whipped through final third reading on
Wednesday, just before the MPs fled Ottawa with their pockets stuffed
with the proceeds of organized politics.

The new law vastly expands government power and gives police the right
to
break the law to enforce the law. The Canadian Civil Liberties
Association
has called parts of the legislation "evil," but that didn't phase the
government. People who tried to follow C-24 on its rapid run through the
Commons say it is as bad in the final version as it was the day it was
introduced.

Provincial and local governments have their own power-expansion
ambitions and are more than ready to hand police fresh authority to
stomp on basic rights. Ontario last month reintroduced its own infamous
organized crime legislation, noted mostly for giving government the
ability
to seize the assets of innocent people if prosecutors think the assets
were
acquired, directly or indirectly, through some organized criminal activity.

That these laws go overboard and trample on people's rights nobody
seriously doubts. Oddly, though, it's not until the laws and
regulations are on the books that people begin to realize how much
power governments have taken and how many rights have been lost. The
federal money launderin

Rev. Al Takes Aim at Jesse
Revives story of smearing King blood

By TIMOTHY J. BURGER
Daily News Washington Bureau

WASHINGTON

Al Sharpton took a swipe at Jesse Jackson yesterday by bringing up an old
allegation about Jackson smearing Martin Luther King Jr.'s blood on his
clothes to score political points.

Sharpton has said he wants to run for President ‹ and many believe he's
trying to replace Jackson as America's most influential African-American
leader.

Asked during a jailhouse TV interview whether his presidential chances would
be hurt by his role in pushing Tawana Brawley's discredited rape
allegations, the reverend lashed out at several past presidential candidates
- including Jackson.

"I think the Brawley case pales in comparison," Sharpton told Fox News. "Did
I take the blood of the guy I loved and put it on my shirt?" Jackson was
with King when the civil rights leader was assassinated by James Earl Ray on
the balcony of the Lorraine Motel in Memphis in 1968.

Although Jackson claimed King died in his arms, others say that he
exaggerated the story - and smeared King's blood on his clothes.

Jackson continued to wear the bloodstained clothes for some time after the
assassination - even appearing on national TV the next morning wearing a
sweater that he said was stained with King's blood.

Sharpton, asked whether he's trying to supplant Jackson as a national
leader, replied: "I'm not trying to replace anyone. I think every generation
has its activists. He was in his generation. I hope to be in mine."

A Jackson spokesman, Lou Colasuonno, said he didn't know about Sharpton's
comments but was surprised by them because "he talks about a picture of
Jesse and Martin on his desk."

Sharpton - who is serving a 90-day sentence in a Brooklyn jail for his role
in the demonstrations to stop the Vieques bombing - announced last month
that he's considering running for President in 2004.

He said at the time that he wasn't trying to challenge Jackson, who ran for
President in 1984 and 1988 - but whose stature has been tarnished recently
by revelations that he fathered an out-of-wedlock child with a woman on his
staff.

Asked by Fox whether he thought he could count on Jackson's support,
Sharpton replied: "I don't know. It's a good question to ask him."

During the TV interview, Sharpton also took a shot at President Bush as he
tried to deflect questions about himself and the Brawley case.

"For me to believe in a young girl to go to the American public, I'm willing
to go and do that - absolutely," Sharpton said. "Compare my belief in a
14-year-old girl with the present President's drunk driving! That he did to
himself, not anybody else!"

Bush admitted a 1976 DUI arrest in the closing days of the 2000 campaign.
Sharpton insisted he'd get "enough [votes] to win" if he ran for President.

"Look at the others that are talking about seeking the Democratic
nomination! Bob Kerrey, Al Gore. I'm running against people that I think are
far more questionable in public service than I am!" he said.

[CTRL] Ashcroft right about Second Amendment (fwd)

SEATTLE POST-INTELLIGENCER
http://seattlep-i.nwsource.com/opinion/27699_gunsop.shtml

Reader's Soapbox: Post-Intelligencer wrong on gun law

Saturday, June 16, 2001

JOE WALDRON AND DAVE WORKMAN
GUEST COLUMNISTS

To paraphrase National Rifle Association President Charlton Heston, "When a newspaper
gets it wrong, that's a mistake.
When a newspaper knows it's wrong, that's a lie."

Leave it to readers of the Seattle Post-Intelligencer to decide which in the aftermath
of a June 1 editorial that horribly distorted
fact when it discussed Attorney General John Ashcroft's interpretation of the Second
Amendment and the frequently
misrepresented Supreme Court ruling in the 1939 Miller case.

The P-I Editorial Board would have readers believe that Ashcroft, in telling the NRA
that the Second Amendment protects an
individual right, is expressing an opinion that "runs counter to most legal
scholarship on the amendment ..."

To the contrary, overwhelming legal scholarship supports the individual-right
interpretation. With few exceptions, nearly all law
review articles published since 1980 on the amendment say it protects an individual
right. That interpretation is now known as
the "standard model."

Even distinguished constitutional scholar and law professor Laurence Tribe, long an
advocate of the "collective interpretation,"
has reversed himself and now acknowledges -- however grudgingly -- that the Second
Amendment does, indeed, protect an
individual right to bear arms.

In the 1990 Fourth Amendment case U.S. vs. Verdugo-Urquidez, Chief Justice Rehnquist,
writing for the majority, noted in
dicta, "The Preamble declares that the Constitution is ordained and established by
'the people of the United States.' The
Second Amendment protects 'the right of the people to keep and bear arms,' and the
Ninth and 10th Amendments provide that
certain rights and powers are retained by and reserved to 'the people.'"

The term "right of the people" appears five times in the Bill of Rights. Why would
anyone believe that the individual right
protected by the Second Amendment be any different from the individual rights
protected by the First, Fourth, Ninth or 10th
Amendments?

The P-I alludes to the Miller case. Someone familiar with Miller could reasonably
wonder whether anyone on the Editorial
Board has read that decision. The P-I called Miller "the court's last major holding,
which said the Constitution guarantees only a
collective right to guns through state and federal militias."

Nowhere in Miller is it stated that the Second Amendment is a collective right.
Justice McReynolds, writing for the majority in
that case, merely stated that a sawed-off shotgun did not have "some reasonable
relationship to the preservation or efficiency of
a well-regulated militia," adding, "we cannot say that the Second Amendment guarantees
the right to keep and bear such an
instrument."

This does not mean individual citizens do not have the right to keep and bear other
types of firearms.

Further, the court held: "The signification attributed to the term Militia appears
from the debates in the (Constitutional)
Convention, the history and legislation of Colonies and States, and the writings of
approved commentators. These show plainly
enough that the Militia comprised all males physically capable of acting in concert
for the common defense. 'A body of citizens
enrolled for military discipline.' And further, that ordinarily when called for
service these men were expected to appear bearing
arms supplied by themselves and of the kind in common use at the time."

Translation: Every able-bodied male could be called to muster in an emergency, and
bring their own firearms. This state's
Constitution, Article 1, Section 24, states quite clearly: "The right of the
individual citizen to bear arms in defense of himself, or
the state, shall not be impaired, but nothing in this section shall be construed as
authorizing individuals or corporations to
organize, maintain or employ an armed body of men."

It would appear that Ashcroft's interpretation of the Second Amendment as an
individual right is far more accurate than the
discredited "collective right" theory to which the P-I Editorial Board continues to
cling in its ongoing campaign to restrict firearm
ownership.

And that begs the question: At what point does a right become so regulated that it
ceases to be a right?

If we were debating the First Amendment's guarantee of a free press, that line would
be drawn very narrowly and defended
with equal fervor by the Fourth Estate as the Second Amendment is defended by gun
owners.

The Second Amendment is no more, or less, absolute than the First, and that if one is
so easily demonized and misinterpreted,
what is to stop that same thing from happening to the other?

They Call It "The Democracy Predicament"

June 20, 2001 by: Phyllis Schlafly

They call it "the democracy predicament." The problem is that the
politicians who prattle incessantly about democracy are not willing to
accept the voters' democratic decisions.

"Make them vote again and again until they vote the way we tell them to
vote," is the cry! It seems that the people should not be allowed to reject
the plans for their future that the political elite worked out in closed-door
sessions last December.

The issue at hand is the ratification of the Treaty of Nice. That's Nice, as
in the French Riviera, and bears no relation to being nice to the voters.

The Treaty of Nice is designed to lock in the 15 members of the
European Union (EU) and restructure its governing authority to
redistribute power more to the larger countries and less to the smaller
ones. The treaty will then pave the way for the addition of 12 new
members, mostly former Communist countries from Eastern Europe,
thus doubling the size of what we call Europe.

The political bosses who hammered out this treaty in what they call four
"difficult days and nights" in Nice had no intention of letting mere voters
participate in the decision making. The plan was to have it railroaded to
acceptance by the political establishment in each of the current EU
countries, where unanimous passage was essential but was always
considered a certainty.

When one EU official casually suggested last year that Germany might
want to consult its voters on acceptance of the Nice Treaty, German
government officials were horrified at the thought of losing control over
the process and vehemently denounced the idea. It's not known what
punishment was meted out to the tactless guy who dared to broach such
a politically incorrect idea.

But then a funny thing happened on the way to ratification of the Nice
Treaty. One little EU country, Ireland, has a provision in its Constitution
that required a referendum. How antiquated! The enlightened European
countries have always looked down on Ireland as a backward nation, and
this provides proof anew.

On June 8, the Irish voters shocked Europe by unexpectedly rejecting the
Treaty of Nice by 54 percent to 46 percent. This surprise plunged the EU
bureaucrats into sudden disarray.

How could this happen? The entire Irish establishment supported the
Nice Treaty, including the government and all three major political
parties.

The current president of the EU, Sweden's Prime Minister Goran
Persson, immediately telephoned the Irish Prime Monster Bertie Ahern
to suggest that he arrange a second vote on the Treaty. That's a good
example of the arrogance of the EU and a preview of what's in store for
any country that surrenders its sovereignty to global bureaucrats.

A similar event happened last year. Only one of the EU countries
permitted its people to vote on acceptance or rejection of Europe's
common currency, the euro. Denmark's voters shocked Europe last
September 28 by decisively rejecting the euro, despite a powerful
campaign for it by the entire Danish establishment.

The gulf between the EU globalists and the voters who didn't want to
surrender control of their country's money was then called the
"democratic deficit." Now it's escalated to a predicament.

Ordinary European voters have figured out what their leaders have been
concealing, namely, that a common market leads inevitably to a common
government to enforce it, and the means of achieving it are fundamentally
anti-democratic. Ratifying the Treaty of Nice means surrendering the
right of self-government to foreigners with different and often antagonistic
cultures, language, religion, values, forms of government, national
security interests, and economic goals.

The Treaty of Nice would force Ireland's participation in the EU Rapid
Reaction Force. That means surrendering the right to decide when to go
to war and when to stay out of other nation's quarrels.

The Treaty of Nice would force Ireland to surrender control over its
borders and admit a free flow of impoverished immigrants from former
Communist countries. There is no way those immigrants can be culturally
or economically assimilated.

The Treaty of Nice would force Ireland to conform its laws and customs to
decisions of the EU courts. Ireland would lose its power, for example, to
set its own abortion and liquor laws.

A common market among the several states of the United States has
been a major factor in American growth and prosperity. But our own
common market depends on the states relinquishing state sovereignty to
Congress's Section 1 power "to regulate commerce with foreign nations
and among the several states."

Americans are glad to do that, firm in the knowledge that all Congress's
regulations must be subject to the U.S. Constitution. Ireland and
Denmark have given us a wake-up lesson that, whatever material

I have a plan that will make the life of women in Afghanistan and in any
other Moslem community that cannot adjust to the difference in the two sexes.
It is very simple. No special provisions for women will need to be made.
They can go to school with men. They would be able to work side by side with
men. Up until the age of seven, men would be raised along side their
sisters, cousins or whatever female relatives they may have. At seven, the
men would be separated into two groups. One group would be blinded, and the
other castrated. The blinded men would fulfill the roles of husbands. The
castrated would be educated to fill the positions a society needs to get
along well. This way women would be free and the sight of one would not
cause any problems for men. The blind men could not see the women and so
would never be tempted at all; the castrated men would by the nature of their
condition not care about women as a separate sex--men and women would all
look alike to them. This is such a simple solution to the problem from
which the Taliban and others suffer that I am surprised it hasn't been done.

[CTRL] Making unwanted things go away

2001-06-20 Thread Dale Stonehouse

-Caveat Lector-

Making Unwanted Things Go Away
June 20, 2001

A few years ago I was given a book for Christmas whose purpose was to warn
parents about the dangers of New Age concepts for young children. I won't
give the name of the book for reasons that will become apparent.

Among the targets of this book were Barney the Dinosaur, E.T. the
Extraterrestrial, and the channeling of Ramtha by J.Z. Knight. I read the
book in a day and threw it away, something I rarely do.

There are certainly some fraudulent people promoting New Age ideas; but this
book picked targets that were either ridiculous or so easy to discredit
anyone could do it, Christian or not.

After finishing the book I realized it may do more to spread awareness of
the things it was trying to stamp out than to realize its stated goal.

You see, awareness is spread not only by promotion but by attack. When a
child or adult for that matter is presented with the idea of "not Barney" it
is not much different from "Barney." Those who knew nothing about Barney,
after being told how bad he is, may want to know more about Barney. This is
awareness not possessed by the reader beforehand.

It has been said that the universe does not know the word "not." The
universe, as its root word would indicate, is a unity concept. Yes and no
are the framework of duality, not unity.

For this reason it is awareness and not positivity or negativity that counts
most. You don't get someone to think about something besides elephants by
saying, "for the next two minutes DO NOT think about elephants." Try it.

You see this in the natural world where animal parents raising young take
your attention elsewhere instead of sitting by the nest and squawking "don't
look right here."

So those who want anything to go away, whether it is gays, Democrats,
Republicans, drugs or aliens, are not going to accomplish their goal by
spreading awareness of that particular plague.

My first experience with this came as a young child when I read obscene
graffiti aloud in the presence of my mother, who ascribed evil intent to
this innocent act. "Don't ever say that word," she said, which only made me
very curious about a word I was previously unaware of but that was so
powerful.

Someone has said "If you want more of something, declare war on it."

Remember that next time you join a crusade against a particular lifestyle,
religion, political ideology or government policy. It may be better for your
purposes to be FOR something else. But that requires a 180-degree switch
from negative to positive, which some people find a very difficult task.

To apply that to a recent earth event, those who badly wanted Tim McVeigh
not to exist only served to publicize his cause far beyond what he could
have done on his own from a death row prison cell. Did he know that?
Possibly.

A child learns at a very young age that he/she can get attention by being
either good or bad. To a child it matters not which, it is the attention
that is important.

Somehow that is forgotten somewhere along the way.

'Foot-and-mouth could become a war weapon'

June 19 2001 at 02:11PM

Edinburgh - Foot-and-mouth disease and other deadly viruses could be used
as
weapons in future wars, academics and security experts warned on Tuesday.

The warning came at the start of a four-day conference in Edinburgh where
more than 200 speakers are to discuss security threats posed by
biotechnological and environmental changes.

Robert Hall, director of the Global Forum for Law Enforcement and National
Security, said foot-and-mouth had caused economic disaster for many people
in Britain.

"It would not take a great deal of imagination to see what organised crime
or a hostile country could do with such a biological agent if it wanted to
ruin the economic security of a country, and the economy is one of the main
ways we measure a country's stability these days," Hall said.

'The natural outbreak we have just seen was bad enough'
Professor Malcolm Dando of Bradford University, who will discuss the threat
of a new breed of genetically-engineered weapon later in the conference,
said other natural viruses have long been considered biological weapons.

"Foot-and-mouth is one of the obvious agents you would use if you wanted to
attack a country's animal stock," Dando said. "It has been taken very
seriously as a possible weapon since the 1940s."

"The natural outbreak we have just seen was bad enough, so you can imagine
what someone could achieve if the virus was spread deliberately, how easy
it
would be to do and how difficult it would be to tackle," Dando said.

The conference is looking at new security issues over the next 20 years.

Hall said it would "look at how the technological revolution, including the
revolution in biotechnology and genetics, is going to give new
opportunities
but also throw us new threats in the changing of security issues".

'The economy is one of the main ways we measure a country's stability these
days' Foot-and-mouth disease broke out in Britain in February, devastating
huge swathes of countryside, farming communities and the tourist industry.
It
has now been largely controlled.

According to latest government figures, the livestock virus has been
recorded on more than 1 760 sites, leading to the slaughter of nearly
3.5-million animals.

Corporate interest grows in gay festival
Gays, lesbians seen as attractive demographic for businesses
Susan Pigg
BUSINESS REPORTER

VINCE TALOTTA/TORONTO STAR
YO HO HO: Rum mascot Captain Morgan greets the curious at a Pride Week
event.
Captain Morgan's on shore leave in Toronto this week - looking for a party.

And the darkly handsome rogue, known worldwide for his Captain Morgan rums,
found it in the 21st annual Pride events.

It's the sheer number of gays and lesbians in Toronto, as much as their
spending clout, that has drawn the Seagram Spirits and Wine Group and a
growing number of companies to literally jump on the Pride bandwagon. Not to
mention the thousands of spectators who will watch Captain Morgan take part
in Sunday's parade.

``We're here because it's a huge community celebration,'' said Scott
Geisler, global public relations director for Seagram Spirits and Wine
group. ``The chance to reach hundreds of thousands - maybe a million-plus
people - was too good an opportunity to pass up.''

Even The Bay got involved. A full-page ad featuring ``the girls'' - five
cross-dressers clad in flamboyant gowns in The Bay's colours - appeared in
The Star to celebrate Pride Week and the Fashion Cares gala, Canada's
largest AIDS fundraiser.

``I don't see this as being a major step. It's just part of real life,''
said Neil Fedun, senior vice president of marketing for The Bay.

``It's also a nice message for us that The Bay is moving forward. We're 331
years old, but we get it. We're relevant, we're current and we're part of
your life today.''

Twenty years after Absolut vodka became the first major corporation to
advertise and market to gays and lesbians in the United States, more
corporations are at least peeking - if not stepping - into the closet.

American Airlines, a favourite for its early marketing efforts, has a team
in Dallas that markets specifically to that community. IBM recently set up a
similar office, said Scott Seitz, a partner in New York-based Spare Parts
Inc., which helps companies market to gays and lesbians.

Author Michael Wilke, creator of the Commercial Closet Web site, a
collection of more than 500 gay-oriented commercials and ads, says such ads
hit a peak last year, with 81 gay-themed campaigns worldwide.

``Some of the companies who jumped into the market first were the companies
who could measure that it was successful - companies like the liquor
industry, where they knew their largest accounts in every city across the
States were the gay clubs,'' Seitz said.

Studies have shown strong loyalty among gays and lesbians to brands
belonging to those pioneers.

While it's impossible to know their true spending power, Seitz estimates
their income at $350 billion to $450 billion in the U.S. alone.

Seitz disputes the belief gays and lesbians earn a higher than average
income. The big difference, he says, is that they rarely have children, so
they have more disposable income.

Many advertisers reach the community through gay and lesbian publications or
through what Wilke terms ``gay vague'' ads that can be read either way.

But companies feel increasing pressure to advertise in mainstream media
using images that reflect the gay lifestyle, Seitz said.

While companies with a strong, older customer base like The Bay walk a fine
line in even appearing to market specifically to gays and lesbians, smart
executives are selling the idea as inclusive advertising, said Alan
Middleton, a professor of marketing at York University.

``It's not only the gay community itself that's important,'' he said. ``It's
the symbolism.''

-Caveat Lector-

ISSUE 2217
Wednesday 20 June 2001

EU elite 'is building a superstate'

By Ambrose Evans-Pritchard in Brussels

IRELAND'S Attorney General, Michael McDowell, has accused officials in
Brussels of arrogantly trying to force Europe's diverse nations into a
superstate no one wants.

Mr McDowell told the Institute of European Affairs in Dublin that Irish
voters rejected the European Union's Nice Treaty partly because of a
"widespread perception that developments in Europe were taking a turn, or
moving in a direction, that caused deep unease".

He said "a narrow class of activist office-holders, elected and unelected",
were charging ahead of public opinion with proposals for a European
constitution, a justiciable Bill of Rights, EU direct taxation, a defence
arm, a judicial machinery to prosecute and punish citizens, an elected EU
president, and an EU government.

"Few if any of these proposals carry popular significant support. While
many
have been put forward separately, they constitute, in the round,
theindiciae
of a European state in substance."

His speech on Monday was a further warning to Brussels that it will not be
easy to make the Irish change their minds in a second referendum. During
the
eekend's summit at Gothenburg, EU leaders refused to contemplate altering
any text in the treaty, although it is technically null and void for all 15
states if any country refuses to ratify it.

The Irish prime minister, Bertie Ahern, was told it was his responsibility
to resolve the constitutional impasse, despite several leaders admitting
privately that they would have had difficulties if the treaty had been put
to a popular test in their own countries.

Mr McDowell is the fourth Irish cabinet member to break ranks. The finance
minister, Charlie McCreevy, caused astonishment in Gothenburg by describing
Ireland's rejection of the treaty as a "healthy development".

Surveillance company moving hub to Denver

http://denver.bcentral.com/denver/stories/2001/06/18/story8.html

Amy Bryer
Business Journal Staff Reporter

NICE Systems, a global recording and surveillance company based in Israel,
is consolidating most of its North American offices into one on 17th Street
in the Manville Plaza.

NICE engineers, manufactures and markets recording devices used in call
centers, banks, air traffic control towers and government buildings. It has
the government contract for all Federal Aviation Administration towers and
its equipment is used in air traffic towers in all countries except four,
said George McDonough, NICE director of sales in Denver.

It also creates the recording devices for 50 percent of the call centers in
the country that let callers know their conversation may be recorded for
accuracy or security reasons.

In May, NICE was chosen by the U.S. Federal Bureau of Prisons to provide
video surveillance and recording for nine prisons.

The company's roots are in the Israeli Defense Force. The engineers for the
Israeli Army developed recording devices that were more compact than their
predecessors and could be used to monitor radio frequencies while riding in
the back of Humvees. When the engineers left the Army in the early 1980s,
they decided the technology could be sold commercially and they founded NICE
in 1986.

Ten years later, NICE went public on the Nasdaq under the symbol NICE.

Last year, NICE purchased two Denver companies, CenterPoint Solutions and
Stevens Communications, and plans to close three offices -- Vancouver,
British Columbia; Sunnyvale, Calif.; and Atlanta. It will be moving customer
care, research and development and professional services into the
30,000-square-foot Denver office, leaving one other research and development
office in San Diego.

Denver will be one of two key hubs for the company in North America -- the
other being the U.S. headquarters in Secaucus, N.J. NICE has about 35
workers in Denver and will add about 50 to 60 more.

"We'll be rebuilding our team in Denver which is a high-tech arena,"
McDonough said. "There have been a lots of layoffs and we hope to capitalize
on it."

In a recent report by Goldman Sachs and Co. Investment Research, NICE was
downgraded and investors told to remain cautious. Weaker spending was
expected to negatively affect NICE results in the coming quarters, according
to the report. NICE decreased its revenue projections for the year from $153
million to between $125 million and $135 million, but Goldman Sachs predicts
revenue will be closer to $123 million.

EU Gov'ts Call For Strict Measures Against Anti-Global Protestors

By Patrick Goodenough
CNSNews.com London Bureau Chief

June 18, 2001

London (CNSNews.com) - European governments are considering urgent steps to
ensure better security at forthcoming international summits, after a
European Union gathering in the Swedish port of Gothenburg was overshadowed
by the worst rioting the country has ever seen.

European governments are so concerned about the deteriorating situation
they are thinking about exchanging intelligence on leading troublemakers
among the anti-capitalist/anti-globalization/anarchist elements, to stop
them from leaving their home countries ahead of important meetings of world
leaders.

Such steps are already in place in Europe to prevent thugs ("football
hooligans") from attending international soccer matches in other countries.

"It was clearly shown at Gothenburg that violent criminal gangs are
systematically trying to disrupt political summits," German interior
minister Otto Schily said Sunday.

"These groups of delinquents must be tackled in a severe and consistent way."

Protests in Gothenburg began with the visit by President Bush last Thursday
but only turned violent during the subsequent EU leaders' summit, after
Bush had left.

Despite efforts by Sweden's center-left government to hold a "dialogue"
with protestors earlier in the week, things got badly out of hand on
Gothenburg's streets, and rioting resulted in millions of dollars in damage.

Police at one point opened fire, wounding three protestors - the first time
Swedish police have fired on citizens since 1931. Almost 600 people were
arrested.

Sweden said anarchists from Germany, the Netherlands and Denmark were among
the prime instigators.

In recent years gatherings of various political and economic bodies have
attracted a range of actions launched by "summit-hopping" protestors. Some
have been peaceful but others - notably in Seattle (WTO, Nov. 1999), Prague
(IMF/World Bank, Sept. 2000) and Nice (EU, Dec. 2000) - turned violent as
protestors actively attempted to disrupt the meetings.

The next major gathering is a summit of the leading of the world's key
industrial powers (G8) summit in Genoa, Italy, next month.

It's reported Monday that Italian authorities in an emergency meeting
Sunday pondered ways of avoiding trouble there, after speculation that
protest groups would seek a particularly spectacular confrontation to
avenge the shooting in Gothenburg.

Among options discussed was one calling for the city to be sealed off
completely from the outside world, with airports, stations and highways
shut to visitors.

Italy could also restore border controls, temporarily withdrawing from an
accord that usually allows for free movement across borders between EU
member states.

The G8 leaders could alternatively find themselves meeting on an Italian
navy ship or a cruise liner out at sea, for their own protection.

Other meetings planned for this year already being targeted for protests
include an International Monetary Fund/World Bank AGM in Washington DC from
Sept. 28-Oct. 4, and the next EU summit, in Belgium in December.

The World Economic Forum meets in Salzburg, Austria from June 30-July 4,
the European Economic Summit, also in Salzburg, runs from July 1-3, and the
WTO meets in Qatar from Nov. 5-9.

Protest groups' Internet websites outline why such meetings are considered
targets.

cardboard").

Sept. 26 in Prague and so on.

For next month's G8 summit in Genoa, one site says that protesters "using
