[l10n-dev] Fwd: Project vi locked.

2011-02-28 Thread Nguyen Vu Hung
Can anyone please explain?

Hello the openoffice.org webmasters,

I think I have received this email by mistake.

Do you mean that the following project has been locked?
Could you please explain why?
http://vi.openoffice.org/source/browse/vi/www/

I have to ask because I have no idea what is going on here.
Other members of the vi team (and I don't) do have the write permission
to the repository so I am sure that they are still
reading the list - which is CC'ed.

Being a fan of meritocracy, I am just a person who sits between
the Vietnamese community and the OpenOffice.org l10n team.
Therefore, it is wrong sending me the following email privately.

Best regards,

Nguyen Vu Hung

 Dana Ned, 27 Jun, 2010 15:04 , Nguyen Vu Hung je napisao/la

  1. What is the best tool for po file offline translation?

I use plain old text editor with PO syntax coloring. Poedit and Virtaal[1]
are some of the tools I see others use. Lokalize is also good option if
you can run KDE applications on your OS.

 [1] http://translate.sourceforge.net/wiki/virtaal/index
 [2] http://userbase.kde.org/Lokalize
Thanks, we use Poedit and sometimes pootle for translating.

  2. (With pootle and other tools), how can I track how many strings, words
that my vi members have translated?

You can always count translated messages. If you want to know how many
were translated in the past, you need to do before and after count. If you
manage your PO file in version control system you can run the pocount tool
on the latest and previous revision.
The need raises when we need to make a report on who and how many strings
has been translated by that person.

It seems that pootle doesn't provide this feature.

# Hello, I know that some people at translate.sf.net is reading this

  3. Can I access po files via svn?
If your team is using Pootle at sunvirtuallab.com for translating,
OpenOffice.org release engineers would merge your translations with new
templates and (luckily) you do not get to worry about it. You should make
 backups as mistakes happens.

Yes, we use pootle and we will stick with pootle.

I'd like to hear other team's work flow (by not using pootle).

It's an additional tool andnot part of a regular OOo installation (it is
not even very usefull within OOo).
There is no spec or website - we just have the code.

The suggestion was, that the tool does not need to be translated. That some
teams have this translated is more or less because there have been existing
(but rather low quality) translations, when the source was published.

 Thanks for explantion.

This is a so called Accelerator key

The sign tilde (~) tells us that the following letter of the word will be

This will make you able to use that menu-item with the keystroke Alt+c (for

Well, the idea is not bad at all.

However: Staroffice and OpenOffice.org are two separate products with
 separated items all over.

The fact is obvious enough: StarOffice users don't see OpenOffice
and via versa.

And Sun doesn't want StarOffice users wink their eyes and ask themself:
What the heck is OpenOffice

Therefore you probably should end up somewhere with a StarOffice where yoy
 expected an Openoffice.org

I will call it bug then.
Developing 2+ product lines are hard yet this kind of
mistakes should/must be avoid.

What we (Vietnamese team) do in TCM is a simplest form of
acceptance test for OOo. However, I believe that Vietnamese TCM

Because as of OOo 2.4 (or even earlier?), OOo does support Unicode

no worries about Vietnamese support in OOo.

I don't know if any of you perform special TCM test cases for your

What we have done in our (FR) project is to sell the tests as a way to
know better OOo and to be aware of new functionalities (thus attracting
 trainers).

Do you mean new features in 3.1?

If it is the case, then there is no need to perform such test cases
because they are already covered by the QA team (not the l10n teams)

This sounds like a big but worthwhile project. A few ideas that came to
mind when I read your message:

  * You might want to review your terminology in Pootle before you start.
That way all translators will see the suggested terminology while they
review the existing translations. Remember that a person with enough
rights can upload a newer file or newer files in the terminology project
to add more terms that you might have standardised later.

Vietnamese, and probably Japanese, Korean and Chinese as well
have a big problem in word segmentation that prevents pootle from
making a good terminology.

At least in Vietnamese, the feature suggested terminology in pootle
is quite useless. We have to use an external dictionary.

   * If you can download the ZIP file with all PO files, you can perhaps
have a look at poconflicts in the Translate Toolkit
 http://translate.sourceforge.net/wiki/toolkit/poconflicts

Poconflicts reads all translations in multiple files and look for
conflicting translations (same English but different translations). You
can also reverse the testing to see if different English strings were
translated with the same text (in other words, if some ambiguous
 translations were used).

Seems like nice tool.I will try later.

[l10n-dev] Acronyms use in OOo

2009-01-22 Thread Nguyen Vu Hung
Hi all,

Pootle reports/warns that some of the acronyms in po files has been
used, and translated.
http://pootle.sunvirtuallab.com/vi/openoffice_org/index.html?showchecks=1editing=1

I think those warnings are minor.
And in our Vietnamese translation, we translate all the acronyms and
ignore pootle's warning.
And to make the original (English) version easier to understand, IMHO,
the use of acronyms in OOo English versions should be avoid.

For example:

1. Bad: OS, DB
2. Better: Operating System, Database.

Doyou mean that you would like more l10n builds before every release?
With several changes to correct mistakes?

Ah, that would be great also, but it is not what I mean. So let me
explain a bit more with discribing the steps of our release :
 - we localized our versions
 - then Sun or Pavel build releases
 - the process is to provide first dev builds then RC (release candidates)
 - at this stage of the process (RC) each l10n or NLC team should test
his release using a test process that is in place (using manuel or
 automated testing)
 - once this tests done and if successful, the version is moved to be
distributed on the mirror as a *final* version.
The time between two RCs are too long so I think your proposal is not
good enough
for testing translation.

Most translators are not coders so it is not a good idea forcing them
compile and test
their translation after he did his work.

A nightly build for OOo is not practical because it is too big.
But a *weekly* build will be nice for both testers and translators.

A side effect of weekly build is: test often, release often.

3.1.0 is currently DEV300_m34 and is ready since the 23rd of October.

Given that string, how to find the code that displays it?

 Normally,
 1) Find a corresponding English text first.
 2) Look for the English text in the source code *.src.
 3) Find out an identifier of the text.
 4) Find out a corresponding source code *.cxx.

I've found that the length of text that has been trimmed is defined in
 Control.idt

It is sufficient enough to increase to text width( 21 as of now ).
 I recommend 77.

To fix the problem, you can submit a ticket[1], wait until the dev

or you can submit a patch :D

In addition, is there any possible that multilingual text, such as Tibetan,
English and Chinese, display in the menu or dialog box at the same time?
I think it is possilbe when you have some untranslated strings in po files,
your *LANG* environment variables mixed with both Chinese and Tibetan.

It does happen to me when I use Vietnamese OpenOffice.org on Windows

I don't know if this is a bug. But as far as I can tell, it is quite
complicated and I hold

When I use Tibetan font in GUI, it is unable to present Chinese characters

Seems like a bug.

Currently the UI font gets chosen on the basis of fontconfig matching, and
all the usual tricks and options for setting it explicitly (use system
font, font substitution) are ignored. If one has an unfortunate set of
fonts on one's system, one's UI gets somewhat screwed.
I have problem with fonts( text size) under Windows, not Linux.
So IMO fontconfig has nothing to do here. See the link below.

How to produce:
1. Start OOo 3.0 writer, open any document.
2. From menu - Insert - Floating Frame
3. Insert any text in the dialog that pops up.
4. Now Atl-tab to switch to another windows

Result:

and can I get the odf files?

Thanks for fixing that.

Full books, as well as original .odt files are coming soon[1]
I got the info from ja list so I am not sure if this guide is final or not.

[l10n-dev] OOo RC/beta mirrors in Japan?

2008-09-29 Thread Nguyen Vu Hung
Hi all,

Anyone knows if is there any mirrors for OOo RC and beta stuffs( not
official releases) in Japan?

For example,
http://ftp-1.gwdg.de/pub/openoffice/extended/3.0.0rc3/
The reason I am asking this is it takes take me a while( ~ 40 minutes)
to download an .exe from
that mirror.

2008-09-29 Thread Nguyen Vu Hung
2008/9/29 Jeongkyu Kim [EMAIL PROTECTED]:
You can find the 'extended mirrors' here -
 http://distribution.openoffice.org/mirrors/ .
This is what I am looking for. Thanks!

http://ftp.kddilabs.jp/office/openoffice/extended/3.0.0rc3/
At the time being, only the first 3 files are mirrored, the rest
seems to be copying. What I want are *vi* files, which are at the end
of `ls -1` list( order) :).
So my conclusion is that downloading from the master extended site is
way faster.

http://ftp.jaist.ac.jp/pub/openoffice/extended/3.0.0rc3/
A little faster than kddilabs but not finished yet.

Clytie, do you know something about it?

Last time I talked with her was 2 weeks ago.
I am afraid that she is not reading your email.

Sorry, everyone, I was told I'd be in hospital for one or two weeks, and I
was there for two months! The food was OK, though. ;)

I'm SO glad to be back! :D

Maho, unfortunately I no longer have a PPC Mac to run or test OpenOffice.org
builds. We'll have to follow this up on the mac-porting list. (So far,
no-one else in our Vietnamese team uses a Mac.)

FYI, from Nakata-san,

Hi all,
I'm inactive in 2008/9 (already, though).
Having two sessions in international conferences.
I'll try to provide MacOSX packages as far as possible
but may have some delays, and do QA activity.

Re: [l10n-dev] Windows installer for UTF-8 languages

2008-09-12 Thread Nguyen Vu Hung
2008/9/12 Clytie Siddall [EMAIL PROTECTED]:
IIRC, this has been fixed as of m22. A screenshot from Clytie [2] shows
 that
we have no problem with Vietnamese UTF-8. I am not so sure but if your
language is of UTF-8, it would be OK.

Note that Vietnamese is supported by Windows itself, e.g. Regional
Settings are available. Khmer is not, and that in the past made a huge
 difference.

Javier, please talk to Jim Park, developer of NSIS Unicode. I've CC'd him to
this email. If it is possible to install for languages not yet supported by
Windows, he would probably know. And if it isn't, he might know how to make
 it happen. ;)
Vietnamese support in OOo300 m29 installation, which uses a newer
version of NSIS,
works fine.

So don't worry.

Not yet but I will. Is there a version for Windows?

According to Ivo's mail on 21th Aug., Vitnamese HC issue was fixed in the
 build.
I've missed that email. Can you forward it to me or tell me where it
is located in mailing list archive.

 Hi,

the latest l10n fixes are merged into the cws localisation31. I uploaded
 only Linux rpms this time

 http://ooo.services.openoffice.org/pub/OpenOffice.org/cws/upload/localization/localisation31/

 The cws contains:

 hu UI / HC2 fixes ( i92834 , i92858 )

HC2 fixes for : br ca cs da de es et fr gl hu it ja ko lt mk nl pt pt-BR
ru sl sv tg tr vi zh-CN

And the missing be-BY build is provided!

 Cheers,
 Ivo

The fix in localisation31 build here is for the upcoming OOo 3.0 to
be released on Sep. 16 or OOo 3.1?

[l10n-dev] DEV300_m29 compilation warnings

2008-09-03 Thread Nguyen Vu Hung
Hi all,

I've noticed unused variables in the code, implicit declaration of
function or possibly dangerous type casting... when compiling
DEV300_m29.

It doesn't hurt but IMO, expunge what we don't need in the code is not
a bad idea.
