Re: From and thru dates

2009-10-27 Thread Jacques Le Roux

Thanks Abdullah,

But my question was specifically about thrudate being above fromdate. Weird we
allow that, isn'it ?
I think we should (begin?) to filter as most as possible errors the user can
make.
This is the kind of stuff that should not be to hard to do on the UI level (or
maybe using some ECA ?) and could save a lot of time
to users when such errors are not discovered before a real tragedy occurs.

When I will get some time I will review your path...

Jacques

Hi Jacques,

David has given the reason for this here -
https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/OFBIZ-3071

But still I have some queries regarding the same, which I have added
(commented) in bugzilla, any thoughts on them ?

Hi,

I can't see any reason why we authorize users to enter a thru date previous

Should we not prevent it in any cases ?

Hi Jacques,

I understand what you mean and the pre-occupation of the community. This is not
something can happen quickly. You can think of it a new generation of OFBiz
like most of the open source or commercial Java EE application server vendors
are moving to OSGi based kernels.

Good thing about it is it can co-exists with the current OFBiz. For example,
the prototype I created did not change a single line of the code in OFBiz.
Community can keep doing what is being done and at the same time create OSGi
bundles of the existing application which is mostly a build time effort. This
is how other projects like ActiveMQ enabling themselves to be used inside OSGi
containers.

Bruno, this is a great addition. Thanks!

I did a quick UI test with you patch and faced these issues:

1. When logged in to application with javascript disabled, the dropdown for
page number selection is not rendered because it relies on javascrip. I think
Items per page dropdown should not be rendered too.

2. I did my tests in accounting-find fixed asset screen. After the seach, if
your FIRST actions is changing the items per page, the selection seems not
working. But after that the next selections are working fine. Then I found that
this bug exists even before applying your patch, ie the first click on
paginator buttons (such as next, last, changing page number) doesn;t have any
effect on the UI.

I find usefull to let the user change, on the ui, the actual number of
 elements contained in a page.
This can be usefull, for example, when there are 21 elements selected in a
query, the user want to print them, and the page size is 20. In this case the
 user must print two pages.
Having this feature, the user can select 30 as page size, and have all
 elements in one page.
In the attached patch there is a first try I am working on.
This seens to work (does not support yet ajax and i18n) but I would like to
have the size selector shown even if all elements fit in one page so that the
user can select a page size with less elements.
Actually the page size selector is rendered with the prevNext bar. A solution
that I was thinking on is to render the prevNext even if it would not be
necessary (one page list) with all buttons disabled.
 What do you think about?
 Thank you,
 Bruno

Raj Saini commented on OFBIZ-2348:

Creating a branch is a good idea. However, it is possible for this code to co
exists within the trunk as major work is creating OSGi bundles from the current
code base. It would involve using a build tool like Maven for creating the OSGi
bundle bundles. GenericDelagator and LocalDispatcher may also need to be
modified to allow each OFBiz component to be bundled as OSGI bundle. This will
make the OFBiz very modular with clear dependency among various components.

Reason for hosting on SourceForge was for people to download and try as it was
too big to attach to a Jira issue. Also, code is licensed under Apache 2.0 and
should not be a problem to bring it into the Apache OFBiz.

I would like to use OFBiz as OSGI (Equinox or Apache Felix). My problem is
when I edit a little java code in my componet, I must compile all component
(if it depend on main build file such common.xml or main ant task) and
restart ofbiz. It spend a lot of time for me. If OFBiz as OSGI, It can start
separate component and reload only jar file that you just compile any time.
If OFBiz use Equinox, It can integrated with Eclipse RCP. I had tried to do
 that. It work.
I would like to OFBiz distributer distribute OSGI feature to trunk. Thank you.

Re: [jira] Commented: (OFBIZ-3066) SFA Module - Opportunities

2009-10-27 Thread Pierre Smits
Hi Jacques,

See my comment that i put in the JIRA on 22/Oct/09 07:28 AM.
Leaving out the payment segment is *not* in the patch... So you don't have
to worry about that.

But you are right. Reviewing patches is always good.

If people are reviewing it, that's ok. And I expect to hear/read from them
soon with their comments/plan of action.

However, we both (and others) agree that the SFA module needs more than some
love to become a best in class solution. We have a ancient document that
outlines in a high level where the application should go. But are the stated
requirements still valid? And are these then complete? And... Requirements
are not a devleopment roadmap. Meaning that they are the input for a road to
go. Functional design/technical design detail that more. That why JIRA items
are created, I guess.

I can submit my insights and deliver patches. My insights are yust one point
of view and may be disregarded by project members. I am happy with that. It
are just opinions.
But when I submit patches to improve OfBIZ for the greater good of OfBiz I
expect something to be done with them in a timely fashion. If not handled
that way I could easily refrain from helping and go about my way

If there are constraints regarding time available from people involved in
handling submitted patches I would suggest get more involvement on that
level.

Regards,

Pierre

Re: [jira] Commented: (OFBIZ-3066) SFA Module - Opportunities

2009-10-27 Thread Pierre Smits
Dear Hans,

Thank you for your prompt reply...

It is nice to read that we are working on reorganizing the SFA component. I
have read some threads regarding this. I assume that with we you meant the
project and not ANT Websystems Co.,Ltd. I would like to see the plans before
work gets started, so that I can review these also and assess where my
contribution fits in.

As with regards to me supplying patches and reading your reply I got the
impressions that when I want an improvement committed in the SFA module I
can wait and see whether it will be accepted by someone (from your reply I
would say that you seem to be assigned as the last line of defense on SFA
improvement, so you are the only one), or otherwise I can pay your company
to have it commited promptly (which implies that more members of your
company can commit also, but are either not allowed by you or are busy
elsewhere).

I don't mind anybody making money of open source projects (I do so myself
and I contribute back), but trying to coerce contributors to pay so that
improvements do get in reeks like something ugly.

Last time I checked OfBIZ was still an Apache project, whereby the
organisational setup is a meritocracy and not a product of your
organisation. If time available is the constraint, then getting more people
involved on commit level is not a bad idea.

Regards,

Pierre

 Thank you,
 Bruno

Why do you expect that?

High expectations are the seeds of disappointment and the fruit of
misunderstanding.

If not handled

That would be tragic... but it's your choice and certainly you are
free to do as you will since this is a purely voluntary community (ie

If there are constraints regarding time available from people

And how should we go about doing that? Unfortunately my wand is broken

I don't mind anybody making money of open source projects (I do so

Last time I checked OfBIZ was still an Apache project, whereby the
organisational setup is a meritocracy and not a product of your
organisation. If time available is the constraint, then getting more
people

involved on commit level is not a bad idea.

Don't be silly. Yes, you might be able to expedite things with money,
but there are lots of committers. For details see:

http://docs.ofbiz.org/display/OFBADMIN/Apache+OFBiz+PMC+Members+and+Committers

There are currently 20 people with commit access. All you have to do
is convince one of the 20 to commit your patch.

Maybe what Hans meant is that you seem to be so used to getting things
done by paying people to do things that you're having a hard time with
the things that drive a voluntary community: merit and respect (often
manifested as cooperation).

The first thing is, how would you define an OFBiz component. Here's
my initial crack at it:

An OFbiz component is a well defined hierarchical collection of
directories (folders in Windows terms) and files used by the OFBiz
framework to build the logical parts that make up an OFBiz instance.
Each OFBiz component has a unique name (typically the name of the
root directory for the component) and a configuration file called:
ofbiz-component.xml. OFBiz uses the ofbiz-component.xml file to
configure various aspects of the component when building an OFBiz
instance and to load the component at system start up.

Does everyone agree on that? David, if you are monitoring, what do
you think?

If not, how about some suggestions?

The term application is used somewhat well defined in the OFBiz
context. Pretty much any webapp or desktop app that exists is
an application. A single component can have zero to many
applications in it. For example the product component has a Facility

Manager application and a Catalog Manager application in it.

At least I am not aware of that definition. If one exists,/*

That said, a glossary of terms would be really useful for the

use the term component vs. application would be a simple
decision regardless of the target audience.

Apache OFBiz EZBiz

2009-10-27 Thread David E Jones

I've started work on a new application for OFBiz, and tentatively
decided on the name EZBiz for it. I considered QuickBiz, but
that's maybe too suggestive of a certain competing commercial
application. ;)

The main idea is to create an all-in-one application in OFBiz for
smaller businesses. Another key part of the idea is to collaborate as
a community on designs long before any development gets underway.

I've spoken to a few people about this idea in the past... and am
finally getting around to working on it! A few people have expressed
interest in this, so hopefully we'll get some good feedback and
collaboration fleshing out designs and then eventually building the
thing.

On a side note, yes it is true that I have mostly skipped requirements
gathering and documenting processes. There are a few reasons I decided
to do that. One is that this application will be more simple and
generic and won't get into the vagaries that come up when doing custom
software or software for larger organizations. Another is that the
current UBPL stories cover nearly everything that will be needed and
more, and we can use them as-is (or with small refinements as we go),
when doing a review of designs to see how well they cover the
requirements (noting that the intent is NOT to cover all requirements,
ie business activities, in the UBPL stories). Another reason is that
there is a lot of this small business software out there that has been
in use for decades and refined a lot, so we have a lot of sources for
design ideas without starting from scratch.

Anyway, here is the intro page for EZBiz:

http://docs.ofbiz.org/display/OFBREQDES/OFBiz+EZBiz

On that page there is a short concept write up and some screen
outlines. The screen outlines I've done so far are meant to help
establish scope, general organization, and certain configuration/setup
options that will drive how other parts of the UI are built. The main
outlines I've worked on so far are:

http://docs.ofbiz.org/display/OFBREQDES/Select+Company
http://docs.ofbiz.org/display/OFBREQDES/New+Company+Setup
http://docs.ofbiz.org/display/OFBREQDES/EZBiz+Main
http://docs.ofbiz.org/display/OFBREQDES/Reports+Main
http://docs.ofbiz.org/display/OFBREQDES/Quick+Setup

For anyone interested in working on these... by all means go ahead!
You can participate in discussions on the mailing list, recommend
changes to what should be on screens and how to organize things (based
on whatever your favorite small business accounting/etc software might
be, or other experience you've had), and eventually we'll get down to
doing wireframes for the more complex screens (ie after outlining what
will go on them), and then mapping everything to existing OFBiz
entities and services, and then start building!

I'll personally be working on this quite a bit as it's getting too
cold around here to do manual labor and I've managed to finish all my
homework (hint, hint... looking for work ;) ), and I'll be happy to
work with whoever else is interested (or would that be whomever?).

Re: Apache OFBiz EZBiz

2009-10-27 Thread Jacques Le Roux

David,

Not much to say, so far
I have learned a new word : vagaries.
eZBiz could be considered a competive name also, but not in the same area
(watch my eyes : CMS, anyway joke)

OK, in one word I'm certainly interested but not much time to spend at short
term.

Also I don't know how they progress but the Noegia team wants to get closer to
the OFBiz trunk.
They are developping an addon concept (for a year now, but I don't know much about it) which should allow them to contribute more to
OFBiz while keeping some their own stuff aside (I guess for licence reasons, but I'm not sure what they really want to share).
Aynway, to the point : Nicolas Malin (who owns his own company but is part of the Neogia team) has developped (with a town
administration) an accouting application specialized for French (maybe not only) SMEs.

Hopefully, a collaboration around your concept might be done...

I propose to underline all links belonging to .basic-table except for the
buttons in themes\bizznesstime\webapp\bizznesstime\css\style.css by adding this:

.basic-table td a {
text-decoration: underline;
}

.basic-table td a.buttontext  {

If there are no other proposals I will commit this soon.

Re: [jira] Commented: (OFBIZ-3066) SFA Module - Opportunities

2009-10-27 Thread Jacques Le Roux

Hi Pierre,

Inline...

From: Pierre Smits pierre.sm...@gmail.com

Hi Jacques,

See my comment that i put in the JIRA on 22/Oct/09 07:28 AM.
Leaving out the payment segment is *not* in the patch... So you don't have
to worry about that.

Yes, now that Tim has expressed that he and his team are not worried, I can't
see any obstacles.

But you are right. Reviewing patches is always good.

If people are reviewing it, that's ok. And I expect to hear/read from them
soon with their comments/plan of action.

Hans has already explained he will. I hope to do some also, but for the moment
I work on another major subject...

Yes, right. I can't tell much about the requirements and how and far they have
been used since did not either wrote them nor worked
on the implementation.

We have all constraints, please be patient. OBFiz was not build in a day (and
not even a week, not even a month, not ev..., ok I'm
sure you got it ;o)

If there are constraints regarding time available from people involved in
handling submitted patches I would suggest get more involvement on that
level.

Please consider, for instance, the work I did for free this month for the
community. It's only an example since each active members
of the community has done at least as much in a month, and some for years now...
Then you will understand that some Jira issues have to wait. Especially because
it's easier to commit a small fix here and there
than to dive in a bigger work when you have also to earn a living...
This said, sure, like everybody, I'd appreciate also more commitment from other
commiters, who would not want that ?
BTW, if you are really interested to help at long term, I'm sure we are all
happy to welcome you as a commiter in the future...

Thanks for your interest in OFBiz

Regards

Jacques

Certainly, but at short term on my side it mostly depends on prospect
answer...
And I'd far prefer to have (even a fast) review by the person or group who

(I think mostly about the payment method thing, but there are maybe others)

has always been this reference implementation of it in use in the

Re: [jira] Commented: (OFBIZ-3066) SFA Module - Opportunities

2009-10-27 Thread Hans Bakker
Hi Pierre,

Let me first say hat we appreciate your efforts in this area but
remember it is all voluntary unpaid work and does not have the top
priority. Luckily David already answered a lot of your questions, saves
me a lot of time :-)

Yes i have someone from my Antwebsystems team working on it. My plans
are as follows of which point 1 should be finished in the next few
weeks, the other points I do not have yet allocated manpower to. We will
also commit your patches pretty soon.

1. leads/contacts/accounts (working on this one)
We will rewrite the search/list functions and reusing as much as
possible within these 3 functions implementing the all/my
leads/contacts/accounts principle. Either all accounts in the system or
all accounts assigned to me(logged in user). We will use the forms and
the performfind service which is now standard practice in the ofbiz
system
We keep the current file organization and format which is shown in the
sfa demo data.

2. Add a screenlet to the overview to show to whom the
lead/contact/account is assigned.

3. Events and calendar (add the existing portlet)

4. Create/assign/track activity/task related to an
opportunity/lead/contact/account

5. Implementation of sales teams: open for discussion and probably need
a customer assignment for this.

to be continued..

regards,
Hans

BshUtil eval and treatment of context

2009-10-27 Thread Harmeet Bedi
It appears that BshUtil.eval overwrites updates(but not inserts) to context
variables.
That did not seem right. It seemed more natural that pipeline processing of
events depend on context being set in previous actions. Wondering if this is a
bug and what the best fix could be.

See following code: First context key-value is copied into Bsh
'globalNamespace', eval done, and then variables copied from bsh
globalNamespace onto context, thereby overwriting any changes done to context
key-values inside the 'eval'.

BshUtil.java
public static final Object eval(String expression, MapString, Object
context) throws EvalError {
Interpreter bsh = makeInterpreter(context);
// evaluate the expression
o = bsh.eval(expression);
...
// read back the context info
NameSpace ns = bsh.getNameSpace();
String[] varNames = ns.getVariableNames();
for (String varName: varNames) {
context.put(varName, bsh.get(varName));
}
}

where
public static Interpreter makeInterpreter(MapString, ? extends Object
context) throws EvalError {

for (Map.EntryString, ? extends Object entry: context.entrySet())
{
bsh.set(entry.getKey(), entry.getValue());
}
..
return bsh;
}

thoughts ?

Re: Create only HR Module

2009-10-27 Thread Rishi Solanki
Hi Rakesh,
Create a webapp in hot-deploy, setup your directory structure into it.
In the directory structure add files controller.xml and web.xml files.
Include the controller of parent application in you custom application
controller.
configure the build.xml and ofbiz-component.xml for custom application.
Now you have the same application running for your custom project, which is
ready for the more customization.

By doing this way your application will be dynamic enough to easily upgrade
the OFBiz instance for the same application.
Removing other modules from OFBiz will not work at all as HR module itself
depends upon other module.
