What do you think? We're all assuming that Logitech will use the Jive platform to knock-up a Harmony-based remote with album art etc. to feature match Sonos. [slim] Very annoyed and disappointed (not with SD - read on...)
So - I'm a brand snob. I admit it. Whether you agree or not, it doesn't bother me: it's a personal opinion an everyone can have their own personal opinion. My opinion? I wanted to by an SD-branded SB3. I don't really want a Logitech-branded unit. It's the same unit - there is no difference between the one which has Logitech on it, and the one which has Slim Devices on it other than the name. If you think I'm an idiot, then that's fair and you're entitled to that view. So anyway - I've been hunting for an SD SB3 for a while. eBay has been my only real option. I found some on eBay, and contacted seller to ask. Seller seems to be selling a lot of these units. First auction I found, I asked him: is it SD or Logitech? (I explained why). No answer. Second auction, next day, I asked him same question with same reasoning. No answer. Third auction, the following day, I asked him same question with same reasoning. He finally responds with a single word: slimdevices. I follow it up asking about the logo on the unit itself and the box it comes in (and also the colour). He tells me it's an all black unit, in an SD box with SD logo. I buy it. It arrives this morning and you want to guess what? It's in a Logitech box. I'm not going to open it, as I can guess he'll be saying you've opened it, now you can't send it back. Waiting to see whether he'll sort it out, but not hopeful. Dammit though - I'm furious about this :( Meantime - anyone want to buy a Logitech-branded unit? It cost me £175 delivered so it'd be £175 plus PP (which looks to have been around £8). Still a bargain, and cheaper than your average retailer. But Logitech. For those of you out there who aren't bothered by such things, you'd get yourself a bargain. :( -- gutted http://www.last.fm/user/gutt3d/ Slimserver 6.5.1 +MusicIP Mixer 1.7.1 +MoodLogic 2.7.1.18 +AlienBBC 1.02a +Slimscrobbler 0.37.5 Windows 2000 Professional sp4 Intel Celeron 1.4GHz 512MB RAM Squeezebox 1 wireless (Player Firmware Version: 40) Library of approx 6800 tracks (MP3 and FLAC) gutted's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=147 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=36331 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] Squeezebox and Digital TV signal don't play nice together.
Not sure where you're located but, round these parts, terrestrial digital TV is VERY sensitive to signal strength - too low, or too much interference, and the TV just stops. Unlike good old analogue, where it would just have got a bit snowy. Its a bit surprising that your coax RF cable is allowing itself to be interfered with (the whole idea of coax is that the design is less susceptible...) but I can easily imagine that if you have a slightly weak signal, and a not terribly sensitive tuner card, perhaps with dodgy grounding, that just a bit of extra interference could push you over the edge. If you're at the back of your SB then you will be in close proximity to the SB's Power Supply, or more to the point the wire that goes from PS to SB - this is known to throw out lots of nasty interference, which can be reduced by things like ferrite cores on the wire, or replacing the PS with a linear unit. However, if you've found an acceptable workaround then I'm sure you won't bother with any of these things... For DVB signals you need to be using double shielded coax, such as CT100 or equivalent. Not only should the cable from the wall plate to the tuner card be CT100, but even more importantly so should the downlead from the aerial to the wall plate. As to why it works when the SB3 is switched off, I suspect that even though it works, it's borderline. The slightest interference is going to kill it: DVB signals are extremely vulnerable to interference. The SB3's stock power supply is know to spray around a fair amount of RFI, so that could be why switching on the SB3 stops it working. -- cliveb Transporter - ATC SCM100A cliveb's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=348 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=36327 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

Which version of SlimServer are you running? 6.5.2? If you upgrade to the latest nightly build, do you still have the same problem? [slim] SB3 antenna?
On the back of the SB3, there is the shiny metal stand that acts as a stand. Does that also serve double duty as the antenna? I was debating attaching some more wire to its the antenna to try improve signal strength. I'm having some dropouts and skipping when playing 24bit flac files. I have noticed that the problems occur when signal strength is 60%. I am considering homeplugs but dont want to shell out the $$ if i can improve things by moving my router around, and possibly pimping the antenna on the SB3. FYI- the rest of my rig is Joilda 502B and Totem Acoustic Staff speakers. I will have a Channel Islands VDA 2 DAC here next week to compare against the SB3 analog out -- jclyle jclyle's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=11752 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=36350 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] SB3 antenna?
I don't think the stand acts as an external antenna. IIRC, there are just two internal antennas. You're right, there are no external antennas, i just saw that in another thread. I changed the channel on my route and that has helped get the avg signal strength to 70 from 60. [slim] How to I really wipe out the music library
Running SlimServer Windows version 6.5.2 I have tried all the scanner options including --wipe and tried to wipe out old tag information that I have corrected. MelonMonkey;210215 Wrote: Almost every product that features these abilities has them using the same buttons. This is a very basic control implementation from a usability perspective and something trivial from a timing/programming perspective as well. It's not part of any problem. The FFWD and REW are just awkward implementations. They work as designed, but, like the original poster, I just wish they were designed to operate in the expected/common/standard method. I'm certain the server-based nature of the product may include some latency, but I'd rather take my chances than be stuck with what exists now. I've never seen it. Usually devices have 4 buttons for this. , and |,| (These are Rew, FF, Next, Prev respectively) The problem is you fumble around with FF and you don't hold it long enough and boom song gone (you execute a next track). The whole thing of changing it's function based on how long you hold it is bad. As far as remote strength goes, that has nothing to do with it and strength is excellent from stock remote. I can blast it off walls etc. Harmony works well too. The basic edit I did in the map was to get rid of the HOLD thing and map the 4 functions to 4 buttons (with no holding). And map them to the standard 4 buttons found on any universal remote. ,,|,| After this it is fairly normal. You have to pick 2 buttons to give up though. I used volume keys because I use an external DAC and Volume is locked any ways. When you're done you get. One tap on FF and it's fast forwarding instantly. Want it faster, Tap Tap. No Tap HOLD, Tap HOLD. You can't screw it up. And you can't accidently Tap to Slow or Fast and get unwanted behavior (i.e. the next song, g). Next Track is then just a tap too on a seperate button (you won't accidently start a FF if you hold it too long). I think I posted MAP file once, don't have access at the moment to server. -- mswlogo Thinkpad XP SS Cat5 SB3 SPDIF-COAX Meridian 861V4 (Trifield, Room corrected, Upsampled) DSP5500 Mains, DSP5500HC Center, DSP33 Rears mswlogo's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=9090 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=36287 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] How to I really wipe out the music library
It would help if you mentioned what OS you're using. With a ThinkPad R61 it could be Windows or Linux. I'll guess Windows, in which case you should (a) stop slimserver, then (b) delete the folder with the database cache, which is usually in c:\program files\slimserver\server\Cache. Delete the whole Cache folder. Then restart slimserver and it will rebuild from scratch. If that doesn't fix your information, use a good tagging program to look for the possibility of having multiple types of tags in your files, such as both ID3v1 and ID3v2, or ID3v2 and APE, or something like that. Delete the tags you don't want and do a full clear and rescan. -- aubuti aubuti's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2074 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=36351 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] Nokia N800
I got a N800 last week, primarily to control slimserver. It works great with the 770 skin, I'm very happy with it. The speed of controling slimserver this way seems almost instantaneous. Its way better than using a laptop which is heavy, cumbersome and gets hot! The N800's battery life is quite good. If doing continuous web surfing switching from page to page you get about 4 hours. If you are continuously on the webbut spending time reading pages etc it can shut down the wifi transmitter and this saves a lot, in this mode its between 6-7 hours. For controlling slimserver where you occasionally pick it up and push some buttons its somewhere between 4-10 days! Web browsing is pretty nice, its a wide enough screen that you can see most web pages without scrolling, but some are pretty small text. About half the time I wind up zooming in a step so I can read the text. The zoom in and out works vey well so don't hesitate to use it. I've wound up carrying this thing with me all over the house, I can read some forums while eating breakfast or do a little research when I wake up in the middle of the night and don't want o get up and go to the big computer. Typing is not so great so I would not recommend writing a novel on it unless you have an external keyboard. It has a stylus keyboard and a thumb board which pops up when you use a finger to point at a text area. This works pretty well for entering text when holding the tablet, but the thumb board covers up the whole screen so you can't see the area of the screen where its going. The stylus board lets you see where you are entering the text. It also has handwriting recognition but its nots so great, I just usually use the stylus or thumb board. As to your question on Select Radio, it will not work on the N800, its designed for pocket PCs which run a completely different operating system. The N800 runs linux. This means there are quite a few third party linux programs ported to it and many coming all the time. Since it has access to the internet it works well for normal internet radio streaming. You can access them just like you would from any other omputer connected to the internet. There is an application called streamtuner specifically designed for keeping lists of internet radio stations you want to listen to. It works pretty well, but I actually prefer using slimserver for internet radio access. The speakers on the N800 are not what you would call audiophile quality, and they don't go very loud. But if you are a couple inches away its not too bad. It does have a UPnP player so you can use it with a UPnP server if you have one. I've not played with the video streaming. It supposedly is terrible with youtube. It does a pretty good job with local avi files etc. Since it has two SD card slots you can put some videos on flash and play them on the device. Currently it can't run softsqueeze, but it should be possible to port squeezeslave. Any more questions I can answer?
