Not a beta-tester either but installed 0.98 on Xperia X1, Win Mobile 6.5 ('final' release), SqueezeCenter 7.4 (2500 albums on). 800x480 looking nice! Impressed by speed of 'Cover Flow' scrolling. No issue with playback & use in portrait mode. Problem with switching to landscape mode (kinda works in 0.98 with some cosmetic issues). When I switch back to portrait, the icons for close/config/search gets messed up and oriented horizontally outside of the view area. I'm still running 7.3.3 on my main system (and 7.4 on the test server) and none of my controllers (or Booms) have asked for an update. They would if I switched to SN, but I don't (as I don't need to). The reality is you do have to upgrade SC to 7.4 if you're using a Radio, and it makes sense to if you regularly switch between SC and SN (as otherwise you'll be upping and downing the fw all day). You know, I think the Squeeze system is awesome technology. I have been listening to so much fantastic music and it goes from ro to room...thanks to Logitech's products. I a newbie here and I have been able to enjoy 7.4 with no problems. True, I use the basics by listening toany radio stations and some of the music services. I have read a lot of probls that some people are having and I feel for them. I think that there are so many variables as to why they are having problems that to blame them all on Logitech and/or 7.4 is unfair. When you read forums like this many times only those with complaints chime in and for every one of them there are hundreds or more that feel like I do and are VERY pleased and VERY impressed with Logitech and their awesome technology. The more complaints the more workers for an industry become discouraged. It is fasionable these days to be negative and complain Sometimes rudely. I say try to live with the cute little girl and let Logitech be Logitech and continue to produce awesome products. Re: [slim] BBC App or iPlayer plugin?
The BBC app just gives you the main BBC national stations in WMA formats i.e. Radio 1, Radio 2, Radio 3, Radio 4, Radio 4LW, 5Live, 6Music, BBC 7 and World service. These streams will be available without an SBS running. However some of the URLs seems to be out of date and are not reliable for UK listeners. BBCiPlayer needs an SBS running but it provides access all BBC radio streams National, regional and local and also iPlayer contents which are 7 days programs. By default the audio is streamed in Flash/ AAC format which is better quality than the WMA. AAC requires transcoding for older players so for UK listeners (and especially NAS users) - the AAC format can be disabled so that it will use WMA or MP3 as appropriate and play natively on the players. -- bpa bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=69031 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] Ipeng and Ethernet connected squeezebox
Perhaps a little more reassurance necessary? I don't have any connection with iPeng other than that I'm an extremely happy user. (It's transformed my Slimserver/Squeezeserver experience, in fact, which was previously inducing ever increasing frustration at it's multiple clunkinesses). My network is exactly the arrangement you describe and for exactly the same reasons (except that I use aiff and alac rather than flac). It is, in addition, wired via homeplug ethernet over mains, so it would have some further excuses to go wrong - but it doesn't (touch wood). Quite the reverse. The whole arrangement is superb. Re: [slim] [ANNOUNCE] iPeng 1.2 for iPhone now on the AppStore
Greetings Pippin! Fantastic update; love it with 7.4 (despite 7.4's "teething problems"). ;-) That said, I found a couple of graphical glitches on mine when the tutorials kick in. Not a deal breaker for me but thought I'd mention it. See the image below. This happened when I hit the "reverse" button at the bottom of the tutorial when it was playing to see an animation play over (by the way, you might want to add an iPeng setting to disable animations and to slow playback down). I'm on an iPhone 3GS (3.1) and Squeezebox Server 7.4 on Vista 32 bit SP2. Did a clean install of SB Server and updated my previous version of iPeng while sync'd to iTunes. [slim] Artwork scan in 7.4
Since Squeezebox Server is now released and stable (that and the fact that I just got iPeng 1.2 on my iPhone and is seems to encourage the upgrade) I thought it was time to upgrade from 7.3.4 on my Ubuntu Server. I'm not impressed. It didn't seem to import a single setting from my old Squeezecenter 7.3.4 installation and so all of my tweaks are lost, but what's more the new database scan seemed to complete with only a few of my albums and when I did a new complete scan it got all the albums (as far as I can tell) but seems to not have scanned any of the artwork. I have to go into each album in turn from the web UI to get the artwork to appear. While my collection is modest by many people's standards, I still don't fancy clicking through all 402 albums to get the artwork to show. Is there any way to force an artwork scan? BTW my artwork is stored as folder.jpg for each album (each album being in its own subfolder). -- rickwookie rickwookie's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=6397 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=69034 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Heck, people are even running it on intelligent wall warts now! My NAS consumes about 5w in standby mode, and 18w serving music. That is about the same as one low energy lightbulb. But if you don't want to get dragged along with them, and forced to accept software and firmware more appropriate to their new touch screen devices, then you will need to have a server on 24/7 - and for most, that means a NAS. -- TheLastMan Matt SB Duet (Controller + two receivers) Synology Diskstation 107+ with FW 2.0-0844 SqueezeCenter 7.3.3 on Synology Package Manager Netgear DG834GT wireless ADSL modem/router Naim 42/110 amp, B&W CM2 speakers in living room. [slim] SBS 7.4 apps; several players
I've just upgraded to SC/SBS v7.4, and installed the SomaFM, BBC, and Facebook 'apps'. I installed these apps to/for/from one of my two SB3s. I also have a Boom. I opted to have the apps appear on the SB3's main menu. So, with the Facebook app, I can press right-arrow on the remote to be presented with the option to 'Share on Facebook'. All good - on that player. However, these top-menu options, and the ability to 'Share on Facebook' don't also appear on my other two players - the other SB3 and the Boom. Nothing I do from those players will rectify this. They both have latest firmware installed. If I attempt to install the apps from those other players, I am told that they are already installed. Also, when I check the settings page of SBS for the SB3 that these apps *do* work for, none of the apps (SomaFM, BBC, Facebook) appear on the top-menu list for that player. Is this a bug, or am I doing something wrong? Has anyone else got this issue? BTW, I *really* want a radio (with a battery), and possibly a Touch too - how long will I have to wait, I wonder? You would still have to configure your server's IP address manually in iPeng since the server detection broadcast will certainly not work. -- pippin --- see iPeng, the Squeezebox iPhone remote, at penguinlovesmusic.com pippin's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=13777 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=68960 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

I've had a similar problem/s here and trust this is the appropriate thread. Upgraded to V7.4 of Squeezebox Server Update of the SB3 appeared to go fine. However I seemed to experience multiple issues: The SB3 screen was blank at most times apart from when it was updating and a couple of times when it was finding the Squeezebox Server. From the server UI, it appeared that the SB3 was indeed recognised but the SB3 screen was blank and I found no way to remedy that. Reading through a number of threads here gave me the idea that the remote was somehow playing up as well. On investigating the server web UI, it would not load the 'Remote' page. To cut a long story short, there seemed to be a number of issues and I suspect the migration to V7.4 didn't go too well. I followed the Wiki article advice on doing a clean install of V7.4 and this seems to have fixed the issues, though I need to re-do all the preferences, of course and I've yet to play any music .. so, we'll see. I'm hoping this update will also fix the old issue I had. That is . . when the computer running Squeezebox Server goes to sleep, the SB3 will finish the current track playing and then just stop. I just want the stuff to work without the need to research the effects of monolithic upgrades on 3 different products. The better solution is to put individual product update under user control. This could require changes to the server. It is probably hard-coded to specific dependencies. And it is better fix the what you have before upping the ante with new and probably buggy features. I still don't understand why they say this: Upgrade to 7.4.0 Required Required for SqueezeNetwork Users If you connect your players to SqueezeNetwork at any time, then you must upgrade to 7.4. when the firmware is switching all by itself. Apparently the firmware is pushed from the website when a user has not installed 7.4. Re: [slim] Why so many rude comments?
All good comments, IMHO. I think the problem is compounded by attempting three different issues at the same time: - upgrading SN to MySB - upgrading SC7.3 to SBS7.4 - new product introduction of the Radio (requiring the first two) In a perfect world these should have been done in steps, spreading out the three step integration over (say) 30 days between each step. But then I and most of the SB player users are not programmers so we'll never understand the reasons why this couldn't be done in such a three step manner. Then add in the corporate big cheeses standing over them with a baseball bat! :) Obviously MySB.com and SBS7.4 work with legacy hardware, and SC7.3 works with MySB, all with some hicups of course. So then the question is "why not a three step integration?". I'd guess it was either planned as a all-at-once process (not my choice as an amateur looking in from outside), or the multi-step approach plan got trampled on due to problems and deadlines. Who knows. -- toby10 toby10's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=12553 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=68947 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

All other people that come here (some properly complaining and also many using the wrong words) were 'forced' to an update. - their controller asked them to do so and if they didn't it asked them later again and they didn't know why - their boom just upgraded automatically when they surfed to a certain menu - ... I don't want to start a discussion now what 'forced' means, but my interpretation goes like 'as a normal user who doesn't surf the forums all the time I had no real chance to opt out when my devices started to develop their own lives. I didn't even know the correct answer, when the controller surprised me with a question I didn't understand out of the blue'. I hope that logitech will take the chance to make a retrospective of the current update and will analyse what could be done better (and I'm sure they will - noone wants unhappy customers). I guess what I may have done wrong last time was to install extensions and restart the server, interrupting the initial scan which messed up the database entries? Anywho, thanks for the update pippin! -- Line Line's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=23800 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=68698 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
