Re: [slim] [ANNOUNCE] SqueezeCommander 0.9 for Android
Oh, I see. Here are my server's details: Code: Operating system: Debian - EN - utf8 Platform Architecture: x86_64-linux Perl Version: 5.14.2 - x86_64-linux-gnu-thread-multi Paden's case is really interesting. Most of his occurrences seem to happen before the final 'd', like there was some control characters at the very end of the string saying 'go back one character and issue a carriage-return'. I doubt Android would interpret ASCII control characters in strings the way a *NIX shell would, though. Unicode Bidirectional text control, or something alike, maybe? Re: [slim] How to use the Transporter IR input jack?
Well, I'm right handed, and kind of born with two left hands. ;) I suck at soldering things, and lose patience quickly, so I'd prefer something either really simple to build (crafting a jack cable with a couple components should be okay) or ready to use. Thank you anyway! :) Now, if DIY is your thing, could you tell me if I am right thinking that a typical IR receiver uses a three pins layout (power, ground, signal) and that if the Transporter only features a mono jack connection, it would probably only take care of the signal and ground pins? Unless the signal pin could also carry power? [slim] How to use the Transporter IR input jack?
Hi all, I've changed my A/V furniture lately, and my Transporter is now out of sight. I've been thinking about using its IR input jack to get the IR signals forwarded to it, but the IR cable I already own doesn't seem to get the job done (I had bought it back in the days when I used the IR-Blaster plugin, though, so that's probably an IR emitter rather than a receiver). However, I'm still a bit confused about what kind of montage/cable I should use to reach my goal. Here's what the doc has to say: > INFRARED INPUT AND OUTPUT > Transporter is equipped with an infrared input for control from other > systems (IR repeaters, > home automation controllers with IR blasters, etc.) Transporter will > respond to signals on this > input identically to signals received via the IR receiver on the front > panel and can be directly > connected to IR transmitter devices via a 3.5mm to 3.5mm mono cable as > if connecting to > an IR LED dongle. So, it looks like only mono cables are used, although most cables I can find (like 'this one' (http://www.amazon.fr/Servimat-infrarouge-TSV7600HDU-TSF8600HDU-IRSERVIMAT/dp/B00O238O18/)) seem to be stereo. And that's where I'm lost... Can I use a passive cable to forward IR signals to the Transporter? If so, could somebody point me to some possibly cheap cable reference that's known to work? If not, any advice on active IR signal repeaters? Thanks for your insight. Re: [slim] Audiosafe - cloud backup (free to upload, pay to restore)
Why wouldn't community members do the job themselves? I have a server behind a 100/50 Mbps broadband connectionthat is -quite- always on, with plenty free RAID-1 secured disk space available, and I'm looking for ~700GB disk space somewhere to make off-site backups. If somebody here is also having a good broadband connection and is wishing to let me use that much disk space on his/her server, I'll let him/her use as much on mine (I can provide up to 2TB). The only warranty I offer is that, given both reside on the same server, I'd take as much care of him/her data as I do for mine. ;-) FWIW, I'm planning to use 'duplicity' (http://duplicity.nongnu.org/) for the duty (for both privacy concerns and efficiency). sebp's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=11768 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=93865 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] SBS vs LMS vs SSOTS
One server software, but five different names. That's quite easy: ;-) - SliMP3 Server, initially - SlimServer ("SS"), from release 5.0.0 to release 6.5.4 - SqueezeCenter ("SC"), from release 7.0.0 to release 7.3.3 - Squeezebox Server ("SBS"), from release 7.4.0 to release 7.6.1 - Logitech Media Server ("LMS"), starting from release 7.7.0 SSOTS was historically for "SlimServer On TurboStation" (and followed SSODS, SlimServer On DiskStation), but - although its name hasn't changed - it's followed the server software's evolution. SSODS/SSOTS is a third-party distribution of the server software that's been specifically designed to run on some NAS boxes. Latest SSODS/SSOTS release is 4.14, and supports Squeezebox Server 7.6.1. Re: [slim] Transporter Display - bit depth and frequency
Although it'll make things look better, the MusicInfoScreen plugin isn't mandatory. All you need is to define a new title format from the web UI (Settings > Interface), calling the SAMPLESIZE (bit depth) and SAMPLERATE (frequency) keywords. Something like this, for example: TITLE [SAMPLESIZE/SAMPLERATE] Then, just select it as the default title format for your player (Settings > Player > Basic Settings, from the web UI). Note that SAMPLERATE appears as Hz, not kHz (i.e. 44100, not 44.1) -- sebp 'Last.fm' (http://www.last.fm/user/sebp) sebp's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=11768 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=92083 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Being closed-source, they could embed all the required stuff to access online music services. mysb.com not being needed any more, they could shut it down (and I guess this alone would imply huge savings!). Then, most potential consumers have always complained the SB couldn't simply connect to a UPnP server, but required a specific server. Logitech could just make the future SB a UPnP client. Music is too important for me not to own it, and these online services are like loaning music. I just don't like this idea. They may be a great way to discover new music, but I couldn't live with them as my sole mean of listening to music. I'm perfectly aware most people would, though. In these trouble times, I'm worried that if I ever get to lose my job and am broke someday, I wouldn't be able to continue paying for them, but would still be able to listen to the thousand albums I've bought so far (and even try to sold some to make some cash). Check that you've enabled the MusicIP plugin in SBS. Re: [slim] Help about network Receiver configuration
Hi, To configure the Receiver with Net-UDAP, you'll need to have it connected with a wire to your router. Connecting your PC and Receiver together may work, but chances you'll get into problems are more likely. Once Net-UDAP is able to discover your Receiver, you'll have to configure it so that it uses your wireless network. It's up to you to decide whether you want the Receiver connected to your LAN wired or wireless, and whether you'll use the DHCP protocol or provide static IP configuration, but to begin with, I'd go for the simple 'Wireless, 64-bit WEP, DHCP' (http://projects.robinbowes.com/Net-UDAP/trac/wiki/SampleUsage#Wireless64-bitWEPDHCP) route. Basically, you'd just have to change these values from the sample: Code: wireless_SSID=WiFi wireless_wep_key_0=1234567890 squeezecenter_address=192.168.0.2 When you're done configuring the Receiver, it'll hopefully connect to your wireless router, get an IP address from it, and will connect to the Squeezebox Server running on your PC. Your Android phone will only have to be connected to your wireless network. Depending on the controller app you'll use, you may need to specify which IP address the server is using. -- sebp 'Last.fm' (http://www.last.fm/user/sebp) sebp's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=11768 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=89505 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Hi Phil, I had another challenging session last sunday, and I surprisingly had the impression I could hear some differences this time. I couldn't really tell I heard anything missing from the CD version, but the HD file just sounded better to my ears. As I don't trust them, I used Audacity's spectrum analyser with both files, and looking at average gain values for some frequencies, they always appeared to be a bit louder in the HD Version than in the CD version. If you look at the screenshots, you'll see it's 4 dB louder for 100 Hz, for example (-32dB is for the HD file, -36dB is for the CD file). I then computed replaygains using foobar2000, and got -6.40dB for the CD version and -6.02dB for the HD version. So, downsampling 24/96 to 16/44.1 with SoX seems to lower the average gain of the 16/44.1 version a little bit. Is an average 0.38dB volume difference sufficient to be heard? I can't tell for sure, but thought it would be worth mentioning... +---+ |Filename: Shields-16.jpg | |Download: http://forums.slimdevices.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=11479| +---+ -- sebp 'Last.fm' (http://www.last.fm/user/sebp) sebp's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=11768 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=85879 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

I mostly disagree, now. My audio system consists of a Transporter, a NuForce IA-7 amp and KEF iQ9 loudspeakers. Not something I'd consider "cheap playback equipement". Thanks to B&W's SoS, I downloaded my first 24/48 recording two years ago, a Portico Quartet album, and when I listened to it for the first time, I couldn't help thinking : "Wow, so HD files sound like that? How great!". But then, out of curiosity, I also downloaded the 16/44.1 version of the same album, listened to it very carefully, and was really surprised I honestly couldn't tell that the 24/48 version sounded better in any way than the 16/44.1 did. I since have downloaded many other albums from B&W's SoS, going from classical to world music, and each time I compared CD quality vs 24/48, I simply failed to tell that one version sounded better than the other. I also tried recently to challenge downloaded 24/96 files versus regular CD 16/44.1 rips, with no more success. In my humble opinion, people who can tell for sure they're able to distinguish 24/96 from 16/44.1 either have not compared versions of the same recording, or are fooled by their brain. -- sebp 'Last.fm' (http://www.last.fm/user/sebp) sebp's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=11768 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=85879 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
