Hi Buffering stops at ~50% then starts to play music. Buffer drops to 0% then stops playing. Rebuffers up to ~50% starts to play agai, but drops to 0% then repeats. Only over UMTS, works over WIFI. Strangly it works when I set the phone to WIFI-access point and connects the Pad the phone AP. I.e over UMTS to WIFI. Player problem is my conclusion since all other paths works. a94marbo's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=55546 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=87364 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

If you bought it from Google Play then if you uninstall squeezeplay it will show as purchased and allow you to install again. Re: [slim] [ANNOUNCE] Music-Playback now on ANDROID! SqueezePlayer released to the market ...
I am using SqueezePlayer on several Android devices, getting pretty good results overall. I have one device that I wish would do better -- it's an Archos 70 (and was a mistaken purchase :( ). It is basically a bedside clock/radio and I have it in a sync group with a Squeezebox Boom. But as it plays I will frequently hear audio drop-outs. When I examine the Archos, Usage Timelines indicate it's not a CPU problem --the CPU is about 10-20% loaded running SqueezePlayer. It's conceivably a wifi issue, but it is hard to tell. Moving it from room to room may change the frequency of the drop outs, but it's hard to tell. The dropouts and buffer underruns occur everywhere, even on a table about three feet away from the router. Android Wifi signal strength meter widgets would seem to indicate fine wifi in the bedroom, and really it's only one wall and about 15 feet from the router. Wifi is connecting at 54Mbps. If I put squeezeplayer on my phone and set the phone right next to the Archos, I can see the phone's squeezeplayer showing a buffer filled to about 50% on average, while the Archos squeezeplayer is reporting a 20% buffer fill (which frequently drops to 0% at which point the audio drops out.) So I am just curious, what do others think the root cause might be? And is there anything I can do to try to get the Archos and Squeezeplayer to buffer more? ja2038's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=40583 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=87364 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Just drop me a line to support(at)squeezeplayer.com I am curious, though, about how squeezeserver works. I have the impression that when streaming an Internet radio source, each squeezebox/squeezeplayer/squeezethingy creates its own independent stream to the source -- that the original source is not first sent to the squeezeserver and then to the clients. Is that accurate? If so, I am curious, are various internet streaming protocols synchronized differently than when the squeezeserver is serving the content from its libraries? I think that 99.99% of the times I see the buffer underruns it is with Internet radio sources, but I can't recall ever seeing buffer underruns when streaming from the music library of the squeezeserver. I dunno. It's aggravating, because when it is working well on a good android device, squeezeserver is wonderful, (but I have a bunch of cheapo android devices laying around I would like it work better on.) ja2038's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=40583 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=87364 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Mick Seymour wrote: I don't normally do it but once I had it running on my phone synced with a Boom and an SB3 at the same time. It seemed to work well. Good to know, thank you Mick. Still I have to try with the tablet of my choice. As I understand some of Stefan's earlier post in this thread it depends on the hardware and probably the Android version how well synchronisation to the other players works. I haven't quite made up my mind what tablet I want to use for this. Initially the idea was to try with any of these dirt cheap ones which are now available from about 60 Euros. That would probably be the cheapest Squeezebox ever (if we disregard the raspberry pi, which I don't consider a ready-to-use consumer product). In my opinion, if the tablet has nothing else to do but reproducing audio, then even an outdated, slow unit should be good enough for the job. Or does anyone disagree? Anyway, lately I wonder if it wouldn't be better to spend 200 Euros on a Nexus 7 which is pretty much state-of-the-art and should offer the option to upgrade with an external USB DAC (at least in theory, so far it seems nobody really tried this) if the analog output doesn't sound good (as somebody from a German HiFi forum wrote). Any thoughts on this, anyone, please? Also one specific question (Stefan?) - would a USB to TOSlink converter such as this one: http://www.inline-info.de/art/de/89909D/InLineAudioKonverter%2CEingangUSB%2CAusgangOptoToslinkundKlinke%2Cschwarz.html fall into that same USB Dacs/USB audio device category which should be supported in JellyBean? Can someone PLEASE tell me how to get this onto the Kindle Fire? I've already installed Squeeze Commander (via slideme.org, IIRC), and it works fine. I've already told the Fire to allow apps from other sources. As per the instructions at the start of this thread, I went to Android Pit, and bought the app. Then - and not before they'd taken my money - their instructions told me I'd have to either install their App Center on my phone, or download the APK file; but there are no more details on how to do either of these things! Well, their instructions for their App Center say, go to this website in your phone's web browser and click on Download now. There's no such link on the homepage. The most appropriate-looking thing I can find (buried amongst all the other app adverts) is an installation link for an AndroidPit App, but that takes me to Google Play - which is no good for the Kindle Fire. I'd be happy to try to download the APK file, but I can't find any way to do that at all - the only thing I can do with the app is to click on the Install button - which just takes me to the same bloody page telling me I need to install the App Center first. I thought this would be a fun thing to try, but a frustrating hour-plus later, I just feel like I'm trapped in a Kafka story! I know that the issue is really about AndroidPit than about SqueezePlay, but I've found AndroidPit's forums useless. -- Brian Brian Ritchie's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2319 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=87364 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] [ANNOUNCE] Music-Playback now on ANDROID! SqueezePlayer released to the market ...
I've been looking at tablets for a while now wondering how they'd work as a Squeezebox 3 alternative. Ideally, i'd vesa wall-mount something like a 7 Nexus or Samsung Galaxy Tab 2, and use the WiFi connection to access my Logitech Media Server. So far, this seems to be what many people here are doing. Additionally though, i'd like to keep the wiring to a minimum by using Bluetooth to connect to a blue-tooth capable amp. As I understand Bluetooth 3 4, they use the bluetooth protocol to establish the connection, but the bulk of the data is actually transmitted via wi-fi. Whether or not that is correct, my query is would the App ( tablet hardware) allow simultaneous retrieval of 320K MP3 files (wi-fi) transmission of files (bluetooth) to amp? Would there be any lag? Also, I can only find 2 screenshots of the software, so am not too sure how it looks or would scale to a 7 display: Is it only portrait, is there a possibility in the future of an interface mimicking the Squeezebox 3s (ie. songtitle/time remaining with background spectrum analyser)? Sorry if this has already been answered, it's quite a long thread! :) Pete Gintz's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=58028 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=87364 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Sorry if this has already been answered, it's quite a long thread! :) SqueezePlayer is the playback component on Android. It looks like any other player, hardware or software. OrangeSqueeze and SqueezeCommander are controlling apps. (I use OrangeSqueeze. It has in-app communication with SqueezePlayer, ie to start the playback program automatically when OrangeSqueeze starts.) Bluetooth is bluetooth and wi-fi is wi-fi. There is no crossover. Using these programs (at Best Buy) linked to my home server via BB's wi-fi, I paired the Nexus 7 to some Samsung bt speakers and had no trouble with control/playback of 320CBR mp3's. BB's wi-fi is really crappy because of the huge number of devices in the store trying to connect and I feel sure that in a local setting you would have no problem streaming higher quality files. But in short - no known problems with receiving audio via Wifi and sending audio via Bluetooth - SqueezePlayers screen is just for startup - after that one of the Controller Apps (Logitech, OrangeSqueeze (recommended) or SqueezeCommander) takes over and will be visible most of the time on your table). If you use OrangeSqueeze you will only see SqueezePlayers screen for the very first setup - then never ever again. bluegaspode's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=31651 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=87364 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] [ANNOUNCE] Music-Playback now on ANDROID! SqueezePlayer released to the market ...
It's both the player and the server who have to support it. The server generates replay gain values which then have to be used by the player. I can only speak for iPeng but I believe it will be similar for SqueezePlayer: there are two ways to control volume on a phone player: you can modify the actual audio data (that's what the Squeezebox does and where the replay gain values usually come in) and you can change the devices' system volume. Now, the problem is, that what you want to do on a phone is to use the system volume. There are three reasons: 1. When in a dock, some docks them can use analog volume control so you gain some quality. Some phones also might do the actual volume control in the analog domain. 2. The system volume has hard-wired control through buttons and the phone UI. You can't turn that off (at least on iOS), so if you do not use it, you end up using TWO volume controls that multiply in effect and you effectively lost capabilities as remote volume control 3. Doing your own volume leveling in the digital domain will increase the CPU load and power consumption. There are ways to get around it, but it's work. pippin's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=13777 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=87364 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Hi there, now that Android supports external USB DACs with JellyBean, would SqueezePlayer also use that output? If so, would it support more than 16bi/44.1kHz? And if so, what would I need to do on both the SqueezePlayer / Android site as well as the LMS site, as currently it is only streaming 16bit/44.1kHz to the Phone?` Any hint would be appreciated! godIsInTheRadio's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=38966 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=87364 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] [ANNOUNCE] Music-Playback now on ANDROID! SqueezePlayer released to the market ...
Unfortunately Android before Jelly Bean does only support 16/44. With Jelly-Bean there is a completely new AudioAPI, which I guess is able to except higher audio rates - but I don't know yet, if it really forwards everything to an USB Dac (and I'm afraid this even depends on the particular device). In addition the market share of Jelly bean right now is 1,8%. The number of users then connecting an USB-Dac is even lower and those then using Squeezebox/SqueezePlayer I guess is about 10. So right now it doesn't look very promising to me, to already spend the time needed to implement a completely additional audio API. This doesn't mean I won't do it - but it's definitely not the right time yet for a single developer to already invest high volumes of development effort into such a topic. Are there actually other Apps already available who do support USB-Dacs with high resolution audio (and have user who can prove that it works) ? That would be at least a hint that it is possible at all (because I don't want to be the first one to try)? bluegaspode's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=31651 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=87364 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

I'll stick with 16/44 for now and hope that there is enough interest in the future... I am just dreaming of a Squeezeserver/LMS attached Tablet connected to an external DAC replacing my broken (not yet :-)) Touches and Boxes... As long as there is now adequate UPnP or similar adequate solution for SbS/LMS I will stick to it no matter whether it will stay alive and supported... godIsInTheRadio's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=38966 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=87364 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

It's an old version. SlimServer Version: 6.3.1 - 8476 - Debian - EN - utf8 I don't think anything more recent will work on the QNAP TS101, as it has very little memory. It still works great with my SB3. I thought it would be just a case of pointing it at Slim Server. Obviously not. Hi 2pods, from the SqueezePlayer side there is nothing you can do to make it work, as it only support server version 7.4+ . If this fails for a longer time it will present the licensing dialog. Looking at the logs will help to identify your issue. As written before: on ICS Google did introduce some problems with some payed Apps. According to this report: http://www.h-online.com/newsticker/news/item/Google-forced-to-temporarily-deactivate-copy-protection-for-Android-apps-1661755.html updating Google Play and reinstalling the App might help. I'm not sure though, if it will really help with SqueezePlayer and if its the same problem. Another possible workaround is to purchase via AndroidPit (send me your Google order number, I can refund it easily). I'm very very sorry about the inconvenience. Re: [slim] [ANNOUNCE] Music-Playback now on ANDROID! SqueezePlayer released to the market ...
I just uploaded version 1.3.4 to the Play Store - On Android 4.x devices, SqueezePlayer now prevents that the WiFi throughput is throttled when the display is off. Buffering issues you might have been seeing due to this should be gone. - SqueezePlayer has been recompiled to also support devices with MIPS processor So if you are on an Android 4.x devices and are facing buffering issues, you should really give this version a try. As you say the second percentage goes down first, this means that SqueezePlayer is not able to download enough data fast enough. Either your network is not fast enough or your server has problems sending out enough data. You are using WiFi, do you? Anything else that might stress your network (big downloads, whatever?) I'm analyzing those crashs right now and hope to resolve them this week(end?). I have the same problem here. After a minute or two the music stops playing. Re: [slim] [ANNOUNCE] Music-Playback now on ANDROID! SqueezePlayer released to the market ...
Hi kingalien, another user recently detected, that the order in which he synchronizes devices matters. SqueezePlayer (in the current version) only works as expected, when it is synced to another device (i.e. being a slave in the sync group). I doesn't like being synced to (i.e. being the first device in a sync group). Maybe this already solves (part of) your trouble, if not I'm afraid you'll have to wait for me being back from my holidays where I'm able to access my Squeezeboxes for further tests. bluegaspode's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=31651 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=87364 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

I think there might be something different about how you handle synchronization compared to other SW players. I noticed a similar issue when trying to sync SqueezePad to iPeng plus a radio while both iPeng+Radio and SqueezePad+Radio alone worked fine. pippin's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=13777 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=87364 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] [ANNOUNCE] Music-Playback now on ANDROID! SqueezePlayer released to the market ...
I have been running a squeezebox radio along with squeezeplayer on 1 or 2 HTC Evo 4g's. Fine and dandy using either web based control, control on radio, squeezecommander or orange squeeze. The other night i added squeezeslave as a service to 2 of my local HTPC's. The problem: If i try to group the htpcs with squeezeslave services with squeezeplayer things go haywire. Radio with 2 squeezeslaves in a group: Fine Radio with 2 squeezeplayers in a group: Fine Any combination of squeezeplayer(s) and squeezeslave(s) in a group: no good I can even run 2 separate sync groups: 1 with the squeezeslaves, 1 with squeezeplayers (radio added to either/or) with no problem I understand that sync isn't always going to be perfect using software and hardware based players. Delays in sync are fine, I understand the limitations. Basically this is what happens, the only way to get squeezeplayers to play while synced with squeezeslave is to turn off all other devices in group, turn on squeezeplayers, press play, then turn on other devices (radio, htpcs). After playing through a few songs from my local library i get audio dropouts and my radio displays rebuffering after it rebuffers audio on the radio htpcs starts but squeezeplayers audio stops even though the squeezeplayers are turned on. In that scenario if you check buffers in the actual squeezeplayer app it displays somewhere around 95%/98% but shows that the status is either paused or stopped. If i make one of the squeezeplayers the active player in any of the controls it shows they are in fact playing. Every couple of songs it continually rebuffers on radio and squeezeslave unless i power off the grouped squeezeplayer devices. After the first initial rebuffer, track time progress towards the end of songs is screwy (counts down to 0:00 and then does -0:01. -0:02 repeatedly) and album art doesn't display new song until about 30 secs into it. Strange things, any help would be appreciated greatly. kingallen's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=56710 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=87364 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] [ANNOUNCE] Music-Playback now on ANDROID! SqueezePlayer released to the market ...
Hi Not sure if this is a bug with SqueezePlayer, SqueezeCommander or just user error, but I'm having trouble with alarms. I've used a SB3 for ages and thought that I'd add SqueezePlayer to use as a sort of alarm clock. I'm using Squeezecommander for control and both SqueezeCommander (v0.9.6.4) and SqueezePlayer (v1.1.3) are running on a Samsung Galaxy SII (Android: IceCream Sandwich). I set the alarm to come on at the required time and play a BBC radio station via the iPlayer plug-in. The problem: The alarm always comes on at the required time but the stream only plays for about 10-15 seconds before becomming silent. if I move to the SqueezeCommander interface it still thinks it's playing (icon shows a pause button) if I hit the pause button and then the play button the sound starts again and carries on until i turn it off. This doesn't happen if I use my SB3 instead of SqueezePlayer. Anyone got any ideas what I might be doing wrong? Re: [slim] [ANNOUNCE] Music-Playback now on ANDROID! SqueezePlayer released to the market ...
Well yes on Android any App can have background services running as long as they want. Which is why SqueezePlayer stays alive even when silent (but only when the device is connected to the mains) Never would have thought though, that someone would use it as an alarm clock. Please take care with this solution: if your device disconnects from the network or the server goes down for any reason, the alarm will fail. Squeezeboxes do have a fallback implementation, SqueezePlayer does not. Now to your problem : to be honest I don't know would could be causing it. Did you try with some different stream (normal radio station not via BBCiPlayer). I think there was something special about their streams, which also triggered the fallback alarm on the SB-Radio quite often. When the stream is silent: what buffer values is SqueezePad showing on the bottom? bluegaspode's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=31651 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=87364 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
