In my previous post, I neglected to mention, that should anyone be interested in the information that I have gathered on meeting rooms, hotels, etc., please contact me, as I will relinquish this to whomever might care to pick it up.
LAUGHLIN 2002
DOOBS Seems from the responses that I've received on and off the list, that many of you would like to have a little get together in Laughlin next year and are starting to make plans for Laughlin already. Here's what I can tell you so far, and suggest you guide yourselves accordingly. The Flamingo Hilton, the host hotel and where The Brother will be playing, will only take 3 or 4 night packages, commencing either Wednesday - Saturday, or Thursday - Saturday. Sunday can be picked up as an extra night. The rooms must be paid in full at time of booking and can be fully refunded by April 10, 2002. There are other hotels in Laughlin as well as across the river in Bullhead City, Arizona which I am looking into. I'll post up what I receive when I get ithey, anyone out there a travel agent who can help another F/C member? They will sell out within a month or so, as that weekend is the annual "River Run", and if you haven't heard a few thousand Harleys, come on downChris and Nick can attest to that; they may even ride down. Plans can easily be made to get a meeting room and a cash bar at a hotel for a Sat or Sun afternoon gathering, and, like we did before, would send an invitation to the Brothers, hoping they might be able to show up. All we would really need is a tentative head count, so I'd know what size room to get. I have also placed a few calls, and am attempting to purchase a large block of tickets for both Sat and Sun nites. If I am able to do so, I'll make them available on a first come, first serve basis with maybe a limit or something like that. I'll keep you filled in. Don't have a clue when tickets go on sale. You can check the pollstar site, call the Flamingo Hilton Box Office, Ticketmaster, etc. C ya Doobster

--Gosh, YOU GO Chris. That got me right here (pointing to the barbell in my navel)!LOL! But seriously. I for one am not willing to give up. I used to be "president" of the Houston chapter of the Doobie Brothers fan club in 1974 when I was a baby. It was more like "playing house" back then. I only dreamed that some day I would get to meet the Doobie Brothers and work for their fan club and now it has become a reality. I now get to help out with the blood drive and help keep the list stirred up with bizzare postings. How fun!! Having been a "Doo-bee" in other organizations and also at work, I understand the exhaustion and sweat that goes into keeping them going. One person can't do it all and shouldn't have to do it all. Unfortunately, this is so often the case. There are a lot of incredible "Doo-bees" in this club who do a lot of big things. If we ALL "band" together, we CAN and WILL keep this train rollin! If not, they could have and probably would have pulled the plug quite some time ago. It's my opinion that if we want to rekindle that spark, it's clearly up to us. Those that are burnt out should step aside, not spread apathy and disenchantment throughout the ranks. If they're no longer up to the job, then stand down. Let someone with fresh blood and fresh ideas take the wheel for awhile, and let's keep Rockin' On Down The Highway So much for my worthless $0.02. I joined up just before Laughlin, and couldn't make it. So the chance to go to the place where it all began would be cool by me. With the advance notice we have, everybody all around the world should be able to fit it into their 2002 calendar. And let's see, 1997 to 2002 is five years. Speaking for myself, (for what it is worth) I would be real interested in a 2002 Doobfest in Laughlin, NV. I am a relative late bloomer in the club and on the list, since I didn't have computer access until 1999, and missed all the fun stuff you guys have been rubbing in that you have experienced. I figure that since it is so near to Vegas there should be great deals on airfare and accommodations, plus the scenery should be great. Last year I had all intentions of going to Saratoga, but my surgeon had other ideas. Hopefully, the blue bird of happiness won't bless me with anything like that again soon. As far as the club lacking the enthusiasm that it once had, I'm enthusiastic as hell, only problem is, we got no concerts nearby last year, and it looks like the same this year. Thanks to Big Daddy Doob I did get one Doobie fix in York, PA last year, and I may attempt the Pittsburgh show this year. If all else fails, I figure that I could slum off of Nick if I go to Nevada! (Get the beer cold Nick! LOL). I don't think that we should ever rule out having fan club get togethers, even if it is just some of us who happen to live near each other, and meet for dinner and a few brewskys! It's our own fault such things don't happen more often, and we should all make an honest effort to see our neighboring Doob Buds when we can. I hope that if any of you guys are ever going to be in the neighborhood you will let me know so we can get together and swap lies. Back to Laughlin, I haven't talked to the boss yet, but having a year to make plans sounds like a winner to me. Besides, I need to meet some old friends there, ie. Glenn, Gina, Nick, Holly, Gary, Debbie, Janyce, Steve, Torrey, etc., etc. I hope that someone out that way will take the bull by the horns and get this train a rollin' for Laughlin in 2002. Hey All!!! Jim and I are VERY excited too!!! This will be a first for us and we have been rocking with the Doobies ever since he robbed the cradle with me when I was 19 (He He He). I did not even know of the name Doobie Brothers then but I sure do now! And have for all the years ever since I met him!!! We can't wait!! One more funny bit of info from way back then too!!! (Hope I do not offend anyone here!!) I was so young that I actually thought with those tight pants that John Mcfee had on he had to have a sock in there LOL I have even watched the video over and over again years since and still have to laugh at it!!! Title: Laughlin 2002? The idea has been floated about holding a "fan-club reunion" in Laughlin, NV as the Doobies play 2 nights at the Flamingo Hilton Amp April 27 & 28, 2002. This has the potential to be a wonderful time for all Fan Club members. I have no doubt that the memories and stories that would be shared by the original fan club convention attendees would, by themselves, be worth the trip to Laughlin. The shows and reunion would just be icing on the cake. Personally, my hope would be that such a "reunion" would rekindle the spark that has been so desperately missing from the Fan Club these past several/many months. As a club, we have definitely hit maturity; early excitement and mystery has given way to apathy generated by "been there/done that". Recent drives and events meant to bring fans together have 1) fallen from previous years participation (toy drive), 2) fallen flat and met with some resistance (blood drive), and 3) have failed to create much, if any, excitement (Los Angeles 2001, only 34 registrants as of today and no mention on the list serve in weeks). As stated above, as a club we have hit maturity.
