Re: [Dx4win] Icom 7600 & DX4WIN
Hi Jim (and all), I got a number of suggestions both here and privately, thanks to everyone. To summarize: For #2, I did adjust the rig file myself, and I'll be happy to pass it on to anyone who is interested. And as Jim suggests, so far everything I've seen seems to indicate that I still need an extra COM port for keying (which I have). I'd been using a "first generation" (I think) Rigblaster Plus with the audio being fed from the sound card as well as handling CW and PTT (for AFSK, PSK31, etc.) It looks like this cable http://www.westmountainradio.com/product_info.php?products_id=icom_aufsk_cbl might do the trick, using TxD to for FSK RTTY, and I should still be able to use everything else. Right now, for keying, I've got a connection between the keying output of the Rigblaster and the Key input on the back of the radio. What I need to figure out is how that cable will facilitate CW keying, since I can't figure out how they'd key CW just using the ACC plug. In any case, at this point, it looks this is more of a general Icom 7600 issue than a DX4WIN thing, so I'll move this this to the appropriate group. Thanks again to all. On 3/6/2016 8:37 PM, Jim Reisert AD1C wrote: David, regarding #1 and #3. My understanding is that the COM port used for radio (frequency) control must be used ONLY for radio control. Surely someone must make a one COM Port device that does the latter. 73 - Jim AD1C On Sat, Mar 5, 2016 at 9:16 PM, David Kozinn, K2DBK wrote: After the smoke escaped from my trusty Icom 756 Pro II, I bit the bullet and upgraded to an Icom 7600. With the USB interface, I've already got CI-V set up via the virtual COM port, and I've got the audio coming into the computer via the USB audio port. (The audio out is there as well, I've got that working already with the voice keyer in N1MM+ for contesting.) I tried searching the list archives and didn't have a lot of luck, and before I re-invent the wheel, I was hoping that the list might help me out with a couple of question: 1) Is it possible to use the USB COM port to do CW keying, or will I need to continue to use the Rigblaster for that? 2) Using ON4AOI's ICOM 7600_250Hz I see that it goes to filter 2 when clicking on a spot to tune either for CW or SSB, and using 7600_500Hz it uses filter 3. Before I dig deep into the manuals, does anyone have a version of the rig file for this radio that will use Filter 1 for tuning? For that matter, are there any newer versions that might provide additional capabilities? (Not sure what those might be, but figured I'd ask.) 3) For RTTY, is it possible to do FSK using just the USB COM port, or does that require an external keyer? (I guess this is more of an MMTTY question.) If not, what are the recommended settings to use AFSK? On my old rig, I'd used LSB and that worked, but I was wondering if I could take advantage of FSK for this one. If it's doing it with the radio off, make sure that you have the input to MMTTY set to line in, and that you aren't using a webcame or other microphone which might be picking up other noises in your shack. I can recreate these from other sources, but I'm pretty active and I'm probably missing several dozen other QSOs. Re: [Dx4win] Automating Internet/packet connections
I use Autohotkey (https://www.autohotkey.com/) to start up D4W, connect to the cluster, and start a few other things that I use when my logger is running, all started from a single macro. It would be fairly easy to create a macro to start or restart your internet connection. I'm far from an expert, but there are a ton of tutorials on that site. Oh yeah, it's free. Re: [Dx4win] Packet Cluster Connection via Function Key problem
I recommend using AutoHotKey (http://www.autohotkey.com/) which you can use to do the automatic connection and more. I have an AHK macro key that fires up my ham "workstation", which opens Dx4Win and starts the cluster connection, and opens up a couple of other useful programs at the same time. For something simple like that, you invest maybe 30 minutes to learn enough about AHK to do what you need to do, set it up, and forget about it. Re: [Dx4win] Error saving log in Windows 8
This is a bit of a guess, but go into File->Preferences and then select the QSO tab. There's a field labelled "Secondary backup directory". Make sure that if there's anything in there, that it's a writable directory, typically something right off c:\ or maybe under My Documents. The 2 minute timing sounds right, that's the default for that file to be written. On 3/30/2015 2:23 PM, ea...@hotmail.com wrote: Hello. A friend of mine has installed DX4WIN 8.05 in a laptop (in c:\dx4w805) running Windows 8. This error message appears also when typing Alt-S in the log window, and every time the software tries to auto-save the log (every 2 minutes). Questions: Has anybody experimented this behaviour? Is there a cure? Re: [Dx4win] LOTW
The easiest way is just to use the LoTW->Export to LoTW each time, then allow it to turn off flag indicating that it needs to be uploaded. That way each time you upload it will automatically only upload those which are flagged for uploading. This does mean that you need to have your Preferences set so that any QSOs either entered directly or imported are flagged to be uploaded to LoTW. It also means that what you'd want to do is to generate the ADIFs only from DX4Win, and not use the export from Writelog. I used to do it that way (export from N1MM logger, send that up to LoTW, then import but don't set the flags), and it got complicated. So in other words, the flow is: Generate the ADIF file from Writelog, import to DX4W (making sure that the LoTW flag defaults to Y on new & imported QSOs), then export from DX4W. Yes, you do need to export twice, but I've found that it only takes a few seconds and it keeps things all managed (for LoTW purposes) aligned in DX4W. As an alternative, if you set a filter (for instance, filter for K1N), when you start the export, DX4Win will ask if you want to use the filter that's in effect. I hope this helps. Re: [Dx4win] DX Spotting Window
Bud, When you say pressing INS doesn't do anything, does it not stop the display or does it not even display "(HOLDING)" at the top of the DX stop window? While sorting by priority (as others have suggested), I use "hold" myself all the time and know it can be frustrating. Couple of things come to mind: First, if you've got more than one Insert key on your keyboard, try the other one (if you haven't done so already). Try pressing the NumLock key and see if Insert works. Actually, you could probably see if it's the Insert key itself by going into anything where you can edit text on your computer and see if the Ins key is functioning properly at all. You could try to unplug/replug the keyboard, or, when all else fails, try rebooting your computer (if you haven't done those thing yet either.) It does NOT keep new spots from coming in or causing the window to scroll a line at a time for incoming spots. All it does it keep the window from scrolling all the way forward if you have gone back a few screens, and a new spot comes in. This is obviously much harder to deal with during a contest. Re: [Dx4win] Dupes
I would like to humbly suggest that since logs can be exported, modified, and re-imported, that perhaps something like this would be better for a third-party tool. Just the discussion of defining what a "dupe" is shows to me that implementing such a feature as part of the core functionality of D4W might be difficult. With an external tool, it would be possible for the end-user to specify their particular definition of "dupe" (e.g., within 2 minutes, 1 minute, 5 minutes, same/different digital mode, etc.) without having to build all that logic into D4W. I noticed today that I'm seeing spots from one particular station (4N1CW) which aren't greyed out in the DX spot window. In the Packet1 preferences, I have "K,VE" set as "Prefixes/Zones for spotters", and until today, I don't recall ever seeing any non-US or non-VE spots showing up not greyed out. Everything else seems to be working properly. The only thing that I can think of is that perhaps D4W for some reason thinks that 4N1CW is either a US or Canadian station, and while I guess I could block spots from that one spotter, I'm more interested in understand why this is happening. -- 73, David, K2DBK http://k2dbk.blogspot.com http://k2dbk.com twitter: @k2dbk __ DX4WIN mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/dx4win Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:DX4WIN@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html
Re: [Dx4win] How to find what new countries I worked
Well for me, the clublog feature was exactly what I wanted in this case, but I can see where there might be other variations as well. None of the examples that I can think of (including the one I started this thread with) are "must have" things, but rather fall into the category of "interesting things you can find out". A while back, I wrote a quick-and-dirty program to display the first time a new country was worked, given an ADIF file as input. It was never meant for release, but I could add filtering to it. That way you could export whatever portion of your log you cared about (to ADIF) and run the report against that. But it would be better if Paul could build this into the program. If I recall, KD7P/N7XR's logging program (whose name escapes me at the moment) was able to do this, back in the mid-1990's! - Jim -- Jim Reisert AD1C, , http://www.ad1c.us -- 73, David, K2DBK http://k2dbk.blogspot.com http://k2dbk.com twitter: @k2dbk __ DX4WIN mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/dx4win Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:DX4WIN@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html

Hi John, Actually, that is the perfect solution, and one I'd forgotten about. (I've been a member of Club Log for a long, long time.) That actually gives me the exact information that I was looking for. Thanks for mentioning it. I will add that I wholeheartedly agree that Clublog (www.clublog.org) is a wonderful resource for the amateur community. Re: [Dx4win] packet questios new user
Unfortunately, there's no auto-login feature built into DX4WIN. However, you can make things easier by using this technique: After starting DX4WIN, click anywhere on the packet window, then press Enter. You'll get a little popup that says "No connection active". Press enter again and you'll get the list of available packet clusters. The most recently used one will be on top (at least in recent versions.) Press enter one more time and you'll be connected. At that point, you do have to type in a callsign, though you can also program it onto one of the function keys which might save a little time. As for seeing the spotter's callsign, try making the DX spots window wider (or adjust the size of some of the other columns by positioning the cursor over the "|" at the top and dragging) and you'll see the Spotter column, it's the second from the end on the right. Re: [Dx4win] can DX4WIN export to a cabrillo format
One of the problems is that you then have to have a way to specify the contest-specific header and possibly deal with different data in the file depending on the contest. I normally use the N1MM contest logger for contesting, but there have been a few times when I hadn't intended to participate in a contest but figured I'd log a few contacts in D4W, then later decided to submit a log. What I did was to export my contacts in ADIF, import them into N1MM, then export the Cabrillo log from there. It worked fine, and while it was another few steps, it wasn't really a big deal. Re: [Dx4win] DX Spots Window
The spots that you get from a cluster come in as a steady stream, in essentially real-time. Most, if not all, cluster systems on the Internet are interconnected so the old concept of connecting to one close to you to pick up locally spotted DX doesn't apply. Some clusters do have filtering on them so that they only display spots from a particular country, though I don't think that the one on K1TTT does that. I'd turn your question around and ask why you'd want to use a web-based one with only periodic refreshes? The one possible reason would be if you were behind a firewall that blocked access on the ports required for use by the cluster nodes themselves. While I don't normally use the K1TTT node I do use it as a backup for when my "primary" one goes down. I've never found that it's missing spots so I'm not sure why you are having issues. I had initially suggested that you use the K1TTT node because I use that myself (occasionally, as noted) and I know that it's well connected with a steady feed, but you might want to pick another one and see if that seems to work better for you. I'd just pick one off the list that seems to be close to you. As I mentioned, most these days are very interconnected and you should have no trouble receiving spots. On the other hand, if you're happy with the spots from DX Summit then I can't really think of any reason to change. Re: [Dx4win] DX Spots Window
Keep-alive is only an issue if the cluster you connect to requires it. Basically, some clusters will disconnect you if they don't see anything from your system within a certain amount of time. If that's the case, you'll need to have a keep-alive set, but you'd still see spots coming in for the first few minutes until the time-out kicked in. Which cluster are you connecting to, and do you see spots coming into the packet window? You might want to try something like the K1TTT-1 cluster which is tied to a skimmer, meaning that you'll get a pretty much constant flow of spots, especially now with the WAE CW contest in progress. Re: [Dx4win] DX Spots Window
Assuming that you're seeing spots coming into the packet window (if not, then the problem is with the cluster you're connecting to), you need to make sure that the DX Spots window is sorting by arrival time. In that window, right-click and select Sort then click on Arrival. (You can also look at the window title, it should say something like "DX spots [DXCC] sorted by Arrival". Also, make sure that you haven't accidentally held the window, it'll say "(HOLDING)" if it is. If it says that, press the Insert button on your keyboard when you've got the window in focus. Re: [Dx4win] Thoughts on Recording A, K with Logs
Why not just use the "Notes for this QSO" field? I assume you're talking about doing it automatically, but my 2 cents is that there are other features that have been asked for on this list that would probably be of more general benefit. Re: [Dx4win] DX4WIN version 8.05
Sorry for the blank message, let's try that again: My 2 cents is that you are to be congratulated for getting XP pro to run in only 64MB of RAM. I'm up to I think 1.5 or 2G of RAM on this box (a fairly recent Dell desktop) and it's OK, but I wouldn't call it blazing fast. There's not a whole lot that you can turn off. You can leave off the callsign lookups.close the Other QSOs window, don't run cluster (not terribly useful anyway while on the trail), and generally just keep the QSOs window only open in as small a configuration as you can. (Pressing F5 cycles the sizes). I guess basically you want to have the computer doing as little as possible, which includes having to redraw windows. Re: [Dx4win] ADIF import from JT65-HF
The file actually doesn't have a header at all. The first line was a just like any other data record. The issue seems to be that D4W expects there to always be a header. I re-read the spec, and it says: "Optional header information may be included before the actual data in the file" and "If the first character of a file is <, it is presumed to be the first field of the first data record." [Dx4win] ADIF import from JT65-HF
Greetings all, I've started playing with JT65-HF and wanted to import the ADIF file that it creates. Apparently, it does not put a header in front of the data which, according to the ADIF spec that I read, is optional. However, when I try to import into D4W, it issues an error that the header can't be read and aborts the import. I can fix it trivially by editing the .ADI file to add a dummy header, but I'm wondering if this is a bug in D4W or if I've misread the spec and a header is actually required? If it's the former, hopefully it'll get logged as a bug and fixed, if the latter. I'll put in a bug request against JT65 HF. -- 73, David, K2DBK http://k2dbk.blogspot.com http://k2dbk.com twitter: @k2dbk __ Dx4win mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/dx4win Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Dx4win@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html

[Dx4win] Muting spot announces when in RTTY
When DX4WIN has the PSK31 window open, audible spot announcements are automatically muted so as not to interfere with the transmission. Is there any way to do the same when running in RTTY mode? I'll either wind up turning them off from Preferences or just turning off the cluster, neither of which is particularly desirable. Am I missing some magic switch? Re: [Dx4win] Beyond Sync - has anyone tried it?
I sees Syncback as well as using Backblaze for offsite backup. What I do is to have a syncback "job" that runs hourly that copies any changed files from underneath my "ham radio" directories to another directory on my computer. In addition, I use Backblaze (a commercial service, I think it's $50/yr, see backblaze.com for details) which runs essentially in real-time to back up my whole computer to their servers. With Backblaze, I've got archival storage so I can pull back an older version of a file if needed. I've found that between these two I'm reasonably well covered. Both syncback and Backblaze are smart enough to only back up when files have changed. If you really want belt and suspenders, you could add on one of the other services like Mozy which will let you back up (I think) 2Gb for free to their site, so you've got an extra version, or you could use something like Dropbox too. Re: [Dx4win] LoTW QSOs not found, but they are there
Thank you Arunad, that is exactly what the problem is. The non-matches were all US and the states in the download file didn't match what's in my log. In addition, one of them was a 6m contact and the grid information in the downloaded file was different as well. What I did was to remove the state & grid info in my log and re-import the downloaded file and everything matched this time. I did get a warning that information in 2 QSOs had been updated. I am using version 8.02 as well. Perhaps in a future version the "review" feature can be extended to show more fields so this kind of things would be more obvious. Again, thank you very much! The problem in my case is that the two QSOs in question haven't been previously matched and aren't showing as confirmed by LoTW. Re: [Dx4win] 8.03 CW Keying problems.
Guy, I tried this but it didn't work, even with the initial "clean" setup. I get the exact same issue. The one thing that I noticed (that should have no effect but I will mention it) is that at first start, I get an error about D4W being unable to load the LPT drivers. This only happens the first time I start it, but since I don't use the LPT port it's not an issue for me. I will attempt to install a completely fresh copy in another directory on my computer and see if that makes a difference. [Dx4win] 8.03 CW Keying problems.
I did some testing today to try try to narrow down the issue some of us are having with the CW keyer. The rig is an Icom 756 Pro II, OS is Windows XP SP3, connection to the radio is via a Rigblaster Plus. All was working fine using version 8.02. Here are my results: 8.02 Settings: COM3, PTT Delay 0, DTR=CW keying, RTS=None -- Works fine 8.03 Settings: CW on COM3, PTT delay 0 DTRRTSResult NoneNoneNothing NoneCWAppears to be doing PTT NonePTTBriefly keys then unkeys, won't send after that, Alt-S/Tune works CWNoneKeys and xmits constant CWCWKeys and xmits constant CWPTTKeys and xmits constant PTTNoneNothing PTTCWBrief xmit, PTT constant PTTPTTBriefly keys then unkeys, won't send after that, Alt-S/Tune works Although I noted it specifically in a couple of places, in all cases I was able to go into CW setup with Alt-S and click on Tune then Stop and it would "clear" things. As I've noted before, there have been no other hardware or software changes, this continues to work fine under 8.02 as well as under N1MM contest logger and Ham Radio Deluxe. -- 73, David, K2DBK http://k2dbk.blogspot.com http://k2dbk.com twitter: @k2dbk __ Dx4win mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/dx4win Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Dx4win@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html
Re: [Dx4win] 8.03 Problem
Well that's weird, what I had actually sent was: I've got the exact same problem that Dusty described regarding the CW keyboard. In my case, I went from 8.02 to 8.03, all settings are exactly the same, and I get the very same issue. I can get it to stop the same way that he described and also exiting DX4WIN stops it as well. I checked with version 8.02 and it still works fine, so there was not accidental modification to my keying configuration (via a Rigblaster Plus) and also verified that it works ok with the CW keyer in my contest logger (N1MM). In my case, this is running on Windows XP SP3. On 12/15/2009 6:47 PM, Rick Murphy wrote: > On Mon, Dec 14, 2009 at 3:12 PM, Dusty Chapman wrote: > >> I just downloaded 8.03 to replace 7.07. I'll talk with the Club Log guys about this, but it looks like what I'll need to do is to do a separate ADIF export of only those QSOs with the I flag set for DXCC then do a bulk edit on those to mark as invalid. [Dx4win] ADIF output
I recently started using Club Log (http://www.clublog.org/about.php) which is a website where you can upload your log data and get some nice stats about it, as well as providing the data for aggregate "most wanted" lists and other information. If found what I think are a couple of problems with the ADIF output from DX4Win. First, I have a handful of QSOs that are logged in D4W as mode=Packet and band=Sat. (They were via the Packet repeater aboard the ISS.) The ADIF output shows the band as xxxm. The Club Log folks said this isn't valid, though I am not familiar enough with the ADIF spec to know if the Mode and Prop_Mode fields should be sufficient. Does anyone know what it should say? The other issue issue is for QSOs marked as Invalid for DXCC. According to the Club Log folks, they are looking either for an ADIF entity number of zero or a QSL_SENT or QSL_RCVD set to I (for invalid). I guess I can manually set the invalid QSOs to a QSL type of I, though for some (for instance HZ1MD), the QSL was valid, it just wasn't accepted (lack of documentation) by the DXCC desk. I guess in the future it might be useful if D4W could somehow indicate that these weren't valid in the ADIF. For now, I'll work around these (there are few enough that I can edit by hand), but I figured I'd just throw this out there. -- 73, David, K2DBK http://k2dbk.blogspot.com http://k2dbk.com twitter: @k2dbk __ Dx4win mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/dx4win Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Dx4win@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html

[Dx4win] Oops
Ok, this is entirely my own fault, I'm looking for a relatively easy way to fix this: When 8.01 came out, I used the multi-qso functions to update frequency, name, and QTH. Prior to doing that, I did a backup of my DXL file so that I could fall back. Although I knew that there were some issues with parsing the comments (which have been fixed in 8.02), I did a cursory check through the converted log and everything looked fine. I started using the new file and made some more contacts, and all seemed well. Yesterday I upgraded to 8.02 and decided to re-run the multi-qso functions again which worked fine. I did another spot check, but discovered what I'd missed the first time, which was that about 400 QSO records had basically gotten the entire contents of the "Notes for this call" put in there, so I wound up with a bunch of things like "Fred, near London" in the Name field. I tried exporting just those fields (set a filter for "," in the name field) and exported those records using the DX4WIN 8 format, then tried to edit some of the records in the DXN file by hand as a test to see if I can manipulate things that way (I moved the QTH to where I thought the QTH field was) but when I re-imported (with "duplicate overwrites"), although the QTH field was correct, the Name field seemed to still contain all the information. (e.g., in the example above, it said "near London" in the QTH field, but still said "Fred, near London" in the Name field. I guess ideally I'd like a relatively easy way to just move the Name field back to "Notes for this QSO", then let DX4WIN just re-parse that, but I couldn't find a way to do that where I didn't wind up with duplicate info. I may well have been doing something wrong, but I can't figure out what. The worst case is that I'll go through the records manually and fix them (which is what I started doing), but I was wondering if anyone had any better suggestions? -- 73, David, K2DBK http://k2dbk.blogspot.com http://k2dbk.com twitter: @k2dbk __ Dx4win mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/dx4win Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Dx4win@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html
Re: [Dx4win] strange cluster result
I did a little checking, and k5utd.utd.edu doesn't exist (at least not anymore), it has no DNS entry. (DNS is kind of like the phone book for the Internet.) However, I looked in a fairly recent dx4win.tcp file and found an entry for k5utd.utdallas.edu, but apparently there's no cluster software running there. Could be that it's been shut down. As for cluster.w9zrx, that's not a legal name, but a look in the dx4win.tcp file shows dxc.w9zrx.net as the full name. It seems that system isn't running either. Generally speaking, if you can access at least one or two things in the cluster list, it's probably an issue with the clusters not being available rather than something wrong with DX4WIN. If you can't get to anything (doesn't seem to be the issue for you), then it's at least possibly an issue with your internet connection. (Simple test is to open a browser and try to go to something like google.com; if you can't get to it, then it's probably an internet issue.) Re: [Dx4win] I Forgot
The cluster info is kept in a file named dx4win.tcp in the SAVE directory. Just edit that with a plain text editor (like notepad) and move your favorites to the top of the list. Good luck! Re: [Dx4win] Bug?
If your country file didn't have an exception record for them, (you can tell by entering TO2T in the qso window and looking to see if it pulls up an entity), I'm guessing that DX4WIN simply thinks it's "nothing special" so it comes up greyed out. [Dx4win] Function Keys
Speaking of functions keys: At some point after one of the 7.x versions came out, there was a problem noted where sometimes the keys are too small to have the label fit on them. The workaround is to use Alt-E to bring up the edit screen, then just close it and the key widths get fixed. (This happens on the CW macro keys as well). Was there ever a real fix (or even cause?) for this identified, or does anyone know if it's at least on the "official to-be-fixed" list? [Dx4win] QSL Labels
What I've generally done is that for a single card, I find it easier to just write it out by hand and update the QSO record manually. (Here's a tip: In the QSL date field, if you press the up-arrow key, it will insert the current date). I then adjust the fields for confirmed and for marking that a label needs to be printed. It's a pretty low-tech solution, but it does work. [Dx4win] Programatically inserting County into DX4WIN files
In addition to the couple of other problems mentioned, the city and state are often not enough to uniquely identify the actual location. As an example, there are 6 (maybe more?) municipalities in New Jersey named either Washington, Washington Township, Township of Washington, etc. Each of these are in a different county. As a further issue, this past weekend I was operating mobile in upstate New York, and was able to hand out a new county (Cayuga, NY) to a friend who I was speaking to. Of course, my FCC license / QRZ.com entry shows that I'm in Bergen County, NJ, which of course I wasn't at the time. Operating mobile seems like it could at least flag the entry to say that the default information may not be valid (put something in the QSO comments field?), perhaps if your program detected multiple names within the same state it could do something similar? Good luck with your project. 73, David, K2DBK At 03:53 AM 11/21/2006, Lee Hallin wrote: >Hi all, > > I'm new to the list so sorry if this has been asked before. > > I am in the process of writing a program that looks up a > state, city combination and determines the county name. [Dx4win] MMTTY
As a temporary work-around, what I did was to configure my DX4WIN windows in such a way that there is a "hole" in them (in other words, they don't cover all available space on the screen). I move the MMTTY control panel to fit (mostly) in the hole, so at least I can see it. (If you are running multiple monitors, you might be able to put the control panel on another physical screen). I agree that this is something that should be fixed. Please! 73, David, K2DBK Quoting Vanderydt Theo <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>: > Subject: RE: [Dx4win] MMTTY > > >> It behaves the same way here. (Sorry if this shows up twice, I accidentally sent it from the mail address that's not subscribed to the list and I believe it will bounce). I have manually exported my entire log, and (at least so far) I see no reason not to continue doing so, so I'd like to have that flag default to "Y", while leaving the label flag set to "N". Also, is there any way to mass change the date in all my previously-upload QSOs (done with a manual ADIF export) so that I can track that they've been uploaded already? [Dx4win] Help with LOTW

My logs aren't nearly that big (I think I've got around 6,000 total), but it did take quite a while to process the big initial chunk that I submitted. Fortunately, computers are pretty good about just doing what they're told without a human staring at the screen, so when I realized that it was going to take a while, I went off and did something else. [Dx4win] marathon contest how?

When you want to switch back to "normal", go back to Filter->Selection, and from the drop-down list at the top, select "All QSOs". I hope this helps. 73, David, K2DBK
[Dx4win] Enable Date Range in Search
Go into File->Preferences, select the QSO tab, the under "Searching" you'll see "QSO Date". You want to set that to Range. Save and exit. When you do a search, you'll only initially enter the starting date, but you'll be prompted to enter the ending date. [Dx4win] LOtW & ADIF export County problem
My understanding was that when they started issuing "live" certificates almost a month ago that the system was consider in "production" status. The "beta test" info that was on the LoTW web pages was removed around then as well. Did I miss something? By the way, on a different topic: The ADIF export (from LoTW) problem (reported here) with an error in the "County" field has been fixed. I got a message back from Jon Bloom thanking me for passing along the info (nobody had told them yet; thanks to the guys who reported it here), and a test export that I did shows that the county format is now correct. [Dx4win] satellite QSO's
I guess the answer is that I don't know, but I'd like to be able to get the contacts entered into the system without error. I believe the eventual goal is to support different types of awards, so I figured that if I've got the data I might as well get it into the system. [Dx4win] satellite QSO's
Along the same lines, I made a handful of Packet contacts through the ISS digipeater. I was never sure how to log them in the first place, and I think that I used "SAT" for the band (even though I guess it was really just 2m). Any suggestions on the correct way to log these such that they'll be accepted by LOTW? Thanks. [Dx4win] IC-746 PC Control
I believe this is an issue with the protocol that Icom uses to control their radios. This seems to be an issue with a couple of other logging packages as well. Apparently, the radios don't "report" their split status, so DX4WIN can't keep track of it. [Dx4win] what time is it?

N8DX While I agree that updating using something like Dimension 4 (which I use at home and like very much) is a good thing to do, updating once a minute not only isn't necessary, but can tax the master clocks that provide this service. I've found that updating every 4 hours works to keep me well within a second of the "official" time, I wouldn't recommend updating any more frequently than perhaps every hour if you had a situation with a bad clock. Although the network traffic caused by a single PC isn't much, when you multiple that by hundreds of thousands or more, you can see the problem. If everyone updated once a minute, it could tax the ability of the clocks to provide the service. 73, David, K2DBK
[Dx4win] 756ProII rig file
Speaking of the 756Pro...I have a 756 Pro II, and I'd like to have it set filter 1 rather than filter 2 for SSB use. Before I start poking around and re-inventing the wheel, does anyone have a rig file specific to the Pro II that has this already set up? (I'd also be interested if anyone has a rig file, even without that setting, specific to the Pro II. The file for the Pro seems to work fine, but if someone has spent a little time tweaking, I'd like a chance to play with that.) Thanks. [Dx4win] Telnet via Cable Modem Timeout
Generally not. The lease time is set by the DHCP server, which you, as a subscriber to the cable service, normally wouldn't have any control over. Unless you find that you are actually frequently changing IP addresses, this shouldn't be the cause of the problem. If your address does not change when renewed (which is typically the case in most systems that I've see), then there would be no change at all as far as connectivity is concerned. (In other words, merely asking for the lease to be renewed doesn't cause ongoing connectivity to drop.) I'd be a little surprised to find a DHCP life of 2 hours (causing machines to attempt to renew every hour) because of the relatively large amount of network traffic that would generate. I don't want to go into too much depth on this list (we're already getting pretty far off topic), but one of the things that you do when setting up DHCP is to try to balance the available pool of addresses with the number of machines needing and using those addresses. In a cable ISP environment, usually when a cable modem gets hooked up and requests an address, it says connected for a fairly lengthy period of time. There are different environments where network connections are relatively short-lived, and you have a smaller pool of addresses than potential users (computers_ , so when a user (computer) hasn't "checked in" for a while, you give the address away. However, even in that case, users who remain connected usually keep the same address. As I think I mentioned once a while back, I've had some drops that I can't explain, and I know that my IP address did not change over the drop. (I run a little application that "notices" when my IP address changes so that I can "find" my system.)
