Good evening. I have a K3 and really love it. I am looking at purchasing a
new microphone pretty soon. I am currently using a Kenwood MC-60 and I get
excellent reports on my modulation. But I have been reading alot about the Heil
microphones and was wondering what Heil microphone would work good with my
system. I basically like to operate for DX though I do chat from time to time
on some nets. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!!

Re: [Elecraft] Elecraft K3 Build Continuing - Reflection Point (Page 6)

2013-03-14 Thread Fred Smith
Yes this hobby is a bit harder to explain to people than some, they have a
hard time understanding the satisfaction that comes from it. My son is one
of those that thinks it's crazy to sit at the radio waiting for days or even
a couple of weeks to try and work a DXpedition. Or trying to fix an old
radio that has tubes in it and will not work as well as the ones I have 8)

The same thinking calls a waste of time:

Building wooden boats.
Making furniture.
Restoring antique cars.
Knitting a sweater.
Planting flowers in the garden.
Fishing or hunting.

That's just a few to give you the idea.

Never be staggered by the ignorance of others, nor allow it to influence
your thinking.

Elecraft K3 Build Continuing - Reflection Point

Ironically - Building the Elecraft K3 has let me to reflect. This K3 project
is special to me and has drawn some interesting questions. I have been asked
by several people including friends and coworkers and some outside my family
what I did on my vacation days and when I tried to explain that I was
working on building a Ham Radio - Elecraft K3 which I knew they would have
no idea about the brand but I always take shot at it.

The reaction has been staggering - so you are building something that is
taking days if not weeks to do that you could have purchased all put
together and ready to use by someone else. On top of that you are setting up
camera and blogging about it. What a waste of time seems to be the
consensus.

I have experienced problems with corrosion (white deposits) in battery
compartments of electrical gear. This has been with AA alkaline cells.
My question is, would I have less problems using Lithium (Energizer
Ultimate) cells. I know that I should probably remove the cells in
equipment that is not used on a regular basis, but I don't always bother or
remember. I just replaced the cells in my GPS receiver, and found quite a
bit of corrosion. I cleaned it up with baking soda and water, and it looks
good. Device still works fine.
Thanks for any information on this subject.

I use a Heil PR-781 boom mic that was designed for the high end amateur
transceivers or so Bob Heil told me when I started to buy a PR-40. I thought
quite a bit of him after that because the PR-40 was double the cost of the
781, but I have always received excellent reports with it. I used it with my
FTDX-5000MP and now my 2 K3's in a SO2R setup.

Re: [Elecraft] K3 Microphone Choices

2013-03-14 Thread Fred Smith
One thing I did want to add to that post is I have mic's that have cost from
$35-550 including the Yaesu MD-200 the $400 desk mic and a couple of
professional recording ones. The PR-781 did the very best for me for several
reasons, I used it only on radios that had a full EQ for the transmit so it
could be tailored to my voice and a mic that added nothing i.e. flat as it
should be.

Plus once you go to a boom mic you will never want a desk mic again, well if
all you do is rag chew you might not. Hands free operation is great for
DX'ing and an occasional contest looking for band countries to type/write
with.

The same could be said be said about buying a loaded K3/P3 SVGA for $5500+
instead of an IC-718 for $700 both radios?

Myself I prefer a better quality of radio, mic and microHAM equipment over
Signalink. I hate to have a weak link in an otherwise good station and then
quality comes into the picture plastic vs. metal. That said I do have
several plastic mic's in the shack 2 Elecraft/Heil headsets and 2 Elecraft

Quality is remembered long after the price is forgotten.

Re: [Elecraft] K3 power output instability

2013-03-14 Thread Lee Trout
I've mentioned this before, but several seemingly inexplicable problems I
have had with my K3 have been solved by simply doing a Parameter
Initialization (see manual.) Just be sure to save your configuration
first. May not help, but doesn't take long so always worth a try. One
caveat, that Don Wilhelm pointed out to me:

*Ideally, that saved configuration file should be one that was obtained
before the problem came up. If a configuration file is generated right
before the EEINIT [**Parameter Initialization], the same problem may be
re-loaded afterwards.

This is a case of apples vs. oranges. There is less difference among
microphones designed for voice work than there is among high end rigs.
Yes, there are places for specialized microphones - if one is working

from a distance (e.g., a shotgun mic), trying to mic a kick drum,
or trying to duplicate the complex overtone structure of classical
strings using a microphone designed for the job is essential.

However, communications is one of the least demanding applications
for a microphone and spending $200, $300 or even $400 is not going
to provide any more performance than the $50 utility mic. In this
area, one is paying for name and style not performance.

Good evening. I have a K3 and really love it. I am looking at

Apparently the ATR-30 has been discontinued. The ATR-1300
seems to be the replacement even though the ATR-30 was labeled
professional and the ATR-1300 consumer. The ATR-1300 is
$18.99 at BH Photo (www.bhphotovideo.com).

One note about any prosumer mic - you will need to use an external
means of T/R switching, e.g. foot switch or VOX, since those mics do
not include a PTT switch unlike communications microphones.

I would not wast the money on replacing the MC-60 with a Heil. If you
*really* want a professional mic, look at an ATR-30 which is generally
available for half of what a PR-20 or similar Heil Pro
mic. You will not be able to tell the difference among the three in blind
listening tests.

Use the TX EQ - don't waste your money on another mic.

Given my experience with the Heil Pro-set with HC-4/HC-5 element vs.
the Yamaha CM-500, I'm not going to put Heil in the quality or
support camps.

If you want to compare Heil to a $5.00 tape recorder mic, you may
have a quality argument. However, there are enough solid, well made
professional microphones in the sub-$100 class that one does not need
to spend $300 or even $200 for the Heil name.

[Elecraft] Wait For The K4 Direct RF Sampled SDR?

2013-03-14 Thread Giancarlo Moda
Hi all,

I would like to comments about Jan K1ND and Mike W5FTD messages.

1) Looking/waiting for a K4 SDR new project by Elecraft.  Wayne, N6KR, has
given the official reply No K4 but possible K3 improvements.

2) Why not a K2A SDR true kit ?

1) The K3 is already an SDR radio, having the DSP and its software replacing
the classic hadware stages dedicated to demodulation, audio filtering and
analog agc. Elecraft have obviated to the use of a dedicated PC, their main
interest is the hardware they produce at best and not a PC producer. If a
customer has a problem with an advanced SDR radio and is not in the condition
to understand where the problem is he will have to discuss with at least two
hardware manufacturers, the radio one and the PC one... plus a software company
if the software is of a third party.

As Wayne has expressed, a  radio, particularly for the HF bands, needs a very
strong front-end and the blocking range is still quite different between the
two technologies sdr sampling still needs components improvement.

Also, a powerfull PC is required to be able to run all those interesting
software routines and displays, plus the reduction of delay audio output,
critical in CW operations.

2) Elecraft has delievred a very nice SDR transceiver, the KX3, that is simple
and can run stand alone or be attached to a PC.

I believe Elecraft cannot invest anymore on an SDR or true kit product. They
will not be able to cover their investment. Any new product will have to be an
SMD assembly, as standard components are disappearing or are becoming very
expensive. The main question for a true kit is ...

How many people will be in the condition of building a radio from a kit versus
how many people will be ready to purchase an assembled radio?
Over a potential market of 10,000 hams, let say for a K2A, how many will
purchase a professional SMD kit? Probably between 100 to 1000? Elecraft will
never recuperate their investment, while serving 9,000 to 9,900 customers they
could have a good return and be able to invest on a new product later on.
The K2 was a different story, Elecraft could afford the sale of 1000 kits-

Today, there is not much hardware available as a kit to make those solder iron
smokers to enjoy themselves (I am one of these) ... SoftRock ensemble RXTX
probably the more suitable for those interested on SDR transceiver kit.

I maybe wrong ... Best 73

SDR is NICE
I'm willing to wait and let the ELECRAFT engineers work out their next
product, K4 or whatever mountain they name it after . . .
In the meantime I have been comparing the Elecraft KX3 with I/Q to the
Edirol FA-66
sound-card running NaP3 software with my Genesis G59 MK3 sdr-kit
transceiver,
[assembled 1.5 years ago] with the same sound-card and software
Genesis/Power-SDR
AND do like the sdr-filtering better.

Maybe
not a K4 but why not a K2A?   Not to do a Flex 6000 or whatever but is
there a way to replace the current mixer, direct conversion design with
an (older, cheaper) direct sampling config?  And  leave most of the
remainder of the design in place.  Be a chance to explore some new tech
and Elecraft could still  keep most of the radio a true kit.

Mike     W5FTD

No need to speculate. There is no such project underway at Elecraft.

Direct RF-sampling receivers, for all their technology, still lag
well behind the K3 in blocking dynamic range, and probably will
continue to for years to come. We're quite happy with our superhet
architecture. Also, any advancement we make to the K3 will be
retrofittable to existing K3s, so your investment is safe.

Joe, you are overlooking one thing.

  trying to
duplicate the complex overtone structure of classical strings using a
microphone designed for the job is essential.

There is nothing more complex in overtones than the Human Voice. Period.

I wonder why Electrovoice mic, both the EV 20 and the EV 27 are known
throughout the Broadcast Industry.

BTW, Amateur Radio and Commercial Broadcasting has one thing in common.
They are both reproducing the Human Voice through a known (irrespective of
bandwidth) medium.

Good evening.  I have a K3 and really love it.  I am looking at
purchasing a new microphone pretty soon.  I am currently using a
Kenwood  MC-60 and I get excellent reports on my modulation. But I
have been reading alot about the Heil microphones and was wondering
what Heil microphone would work good with my system.  I basically like
to operate for DX though I do chat from time to time on some nets.  Any
recommendations would be greatly appreciated.
 Thanks!!!  Mark KB3Z

Re: [Elecraft] Fwd: K3 Microphone Choices

2013-03-14 Thread Walter Underwood
Of course that matters for broadcast AM or FM, but ...

When you cut off the frequencies at 3 KHz, you cut off almost all those
overtones. If SSB is even a tiny bit mis-tuned, all the overtones are also out
of tune.

Cheap electret mics are quite good. Once you pay enough for decent build
quality, they are all the same for communications purposes. They have
limitations, but those just don't matter for communications (only 80 dB SNR,
uneven high frequency response, compression with high dynamic range).

This is a case of apples vs. oranges. There is less difference among
microphones designed for voice work than there is among high end rigs.
Yes, there are places for specialized microphones - if one is working from a
distance (e.g., a shotgun mic), trying to mic a kick drum, or trying to
duplicate the complex overtone structure of classical strings using a
microphone designed for the job is essential.

However, communications is one of the least demanding applications for a
microphone and spending $200, $300 or even $400 is not going to provide any
more performance than the $50 utility mic. In this area, one is paying for
 name and style not performance.

You, my friend, are the hypster's legal prey. There are many areas in
life where price and quality are practically unrelated, and those who
look for quality based primarily on price are either ignorant or too
lazy to do the research. Even the plastic vs metal criteria doesn't
hold up in the real world, and when dozens of people point out the
incongruity of spending $150 for a Heil mic that is no better (and
probably worse) than something that can be had for $50 or less, the wise
would pay attention. A $20 electret computer microphone will sound and
function every bit as a Heil when properly set up with the K3.

The same could be said be said about buying a loaded K3/P3 SVGA for

[Elecraft] Dual receive using the K2. What's the best way to make that happen?

2013-03-14 Thread Stephen Roberts
I would really like to have dual receive capability while I'm using my K2 split
for DX. What do you think is the most practical way to approach that without
buying another radio and installing another antenna?

I have an old Kenwood TS-430 available that I was thinking of using for an
additional receive radio. The guys from DX engineering say that I could use a
doohickie that will block transmit signal from the K2 to keep rf out of the
TS-430. Looks like it would cost about $225.

Is that the way to go?

Elecraft K3 Build Continuing - Reflection Point

Ironically - Building the Elecraft K3 has let me to reflect. This K3
project
is special to me and has drawn some interesting questions. I have been
asked
by several people including friends and coworkers and some outside my
family
what I did on my vacation days and when I tried to explain that I was
working on building a Ham Radio - Elecraft K3 which I knew they would have
no idea about the brand but I always take shot at it.

The reaction has been staggering - so you are building something that is
taking days if not weeks to do that you could have purchased all put
together and ready to use by someone else. On top of that you are setting
up
camera and blogging about it. What a waste of time seems to be the
consensus.

[Elecraft] CM-500

GA Everyone

I hope this has not been answered before, but I could not
find my answer in the archives, so here goes.

Can anyone tell me how much bias the microphone is able to
tolerate? Since the battery pack supplies 3v
dc, I am sure that 4-5 volts probable won't hurt. But how
about 10-12v DC?

I use my headset with my K2, but would like to try it with
another rig that supplies 10v. To get my other rig voltage
down to the 3-4v region require about 12 meg ohms in series
with the 10volts supplied.

All of you guys and gals are a great source for info

An electret does not draw current in the classic sense. 5.6K seems
to be a good value of resistor for almost anything from 5 to 8V but
12K might be safer for your 10-12V.

The big name aviation headsets use 33 - 48K resistors for the typical
48V aircraft system. They tend to not work well with the 3-5V ham and
computer supplies but if they are opened and the resistor removed (or
replaced with a 2K2 depending on whether the equipment already contains
a resistor), they work perfectly well at the lower voltage.

I've always used a rule of thumb of 1K/V for electret mics.

Re: [Elecraft] CM-500

2013-03-14 Thread Fred Townsend
Ira:
Your comments concern me a bit. It is important to remember the electrolet
microphone requires a bias voltage but does not consume any electrical
power; i.e. you are not powering the microphone. Rather the microphone is
modulating the bias voltage. However there may be a current flow within the
microphone circuit depending on how the microphone is terminated and coupled
to the microphone input circuit. The bottom line is the bias voltage is not
important. As long as the voltage rating of any electrolytic capacitors in
the network is not exceeded it is not critical. What is important is the
quality of the powering circuit. It must be extremely well filtered. One
good way of filtering is to use a RC filter in conjunction with a voltage
divider. However if you leave out the voltage divider and apply only the RC
you will be applying the filter to the mic input rather than to the power
source.

When you ask if 10-12v is OK I wonder as to the quality of that power
source. If the 12 volts is shared it may well be dirty and unsuitable for a
mic circuit.

If you are using a 12meg resistor I suspect you may be forming a voltage
divider with the leakage resistance of a electrolytic cap. This could damage
the cap and not solve your problem. There are plenty of published circuits
on how to setup the bias. I would stick with one of them.

I hope this has not been answered before, but I could not find my answer in
the archives, so here goes.

Can anyone tell me how much bias the microphone is able to tolerate? Since
the battery pack supplies 3v dc, I am sure that 4-5 volts probable won't
hurt. But how about 10-12v DC?

I use my headset with my K2, but would like to try it with another rig that
supplies 10v. To get my other rig voltage down to the 3-4v region require
about 12 meg ohms in series with the 10volts supplied.

All of you guys and gals are a great source for info regardless of topic and
I wish to thank all and any of you who choose to answer my novice
question. I have learned something in my years on this earth, that if you
don't ask you do not get any answers.

Re: [Elecraft] CM-500

2013-03-14 Thread Mark Goldberg
A standard aviation microphone approved to TSO C58 is supposed to meet
DO-214 Audio Systems Characteristics And Minimum Operational Performance
Standards For Aircraft Audio Systems And Equipment although not all do.
Unless you belong to the RTCA, it will cost money to see that document. The
standard is bias excitation is 8 to 16V with a 470 ohm current limiting
resistor, providing about 10 ma to what usually is an amplifier circuit in
the mic. The ac output level is supposed to be between .02 and .08 V/Pa,
where 1 Pa is 94 dB SPL referenced to 20 uPa. Normal close speech is in
the range of about 1 to 10 Pa, so this is pretty high compared to a lot of
other mics, up to .8 V. I have not tried connecting one up, but I would
think if you had a resistor that provides about 10 ma it should work, if
the rig can stand that high an input and if the bias can supply 10 ma.
Active Noise Cancelling headsets have other power options, maybe running
off 28V. I am not aware of 48V systems in Commercial aviation, but I don't
know everything that is out there. Carbon mics were different but not
common any more.

One issue is to keep the load mic preamp from disturbing the bias. I had to
filter the bias end of the series resistor on one rig with a big cap. Also,
connections vary.

Re: [Elecraft] Kenwood Mc-60 mic with K2

2013-03-14 Thread Joe Subich, W4TV

Was it an MC-60 or an MC-60A? The MC-60 is a straight dynamic
mic while the MC-60A included a preamplifier circuit in the base.

1) make sure your K2 is not set up with bias (no 5.6K resistor
   on the P1).
2) make sure the preamplifier is *bypassed* (switch OUT) in the
   base of the MC-60A.

Finally, make sure the cable is wired for Kenwood and has not been
rewired for some other transceiver. The MC-60/60A was a good mic
and has been used with a lot of other transceivers by replacing
the cable from the base to the rig with one wired appropriately.

Thanks for snappy reply to KAT2 troubles.
Started on your presumption that connection to dummy load was unstable or non

Was about to take ATU apart for a rewinding of T1 but --
quickly decided to check the K2 in its original condition.
Disconnected J7 and J8 + removed ATU from lid.
Switching to original antenna plug and thus went back to
K2's former condition with one exception : The new P6 plug was now sitting in
its place, as it is hard to
remove.
Connected K2 to adjusted antenna and (ALAS !!) had the dreaded Hi-cur info on
display.
Resistance from collectors of Q7/Q8 to ground are both around 320 ohms .
Thermal pads neatly intact. Shoulder washers in place.
+++
Beginning to feel that the initiating ATU problems during CALn procedure was in
fact a malfunction in the K2 itself.
Where to look ? Any suggestions ?

I'm sort of curious about what Flex is doing with their new radio. The
heart of it has to be a very good A/D converter, but the best thing I'm
aware of is an Analog Devices 16 bit, 100 Msp/s one that ain't exactly

I, too, believe that direct sampling and high dynamic range is still a

Re: [Elecraft] Elecraft; Is there a problem with emailing Sales?

2013-03-14 Thread Eric Swartz - WA6HHQ, Elecraft
The correct email address to use for fastest customer service on
technical issues like the one below is k3supp...@elecraft.com . We have
a whole team watching that address. For spare or missing parts
requests, use pa...@elecraft.com

If you email sa...@elecraft.com, or any of our support addresses, and
don't receive an answer after 1-2 'business' days, -please- call us.
(831-763-4211) We are here to help :-)

Please remember, the internet is not a 100% guaranteed delivery
mechanism. Also, we all introduce typos into our email addresses from
time to time, causing our emails to go astray. (I've done that more
times than I can count..) Emails from customers sometimes get filtered
as SPAM here causing delays, and our replies to emails also are
frequently caught in the customer's spam filters.

Also, sa...@elecraft.com goes to Lisa's account, and if she is out sick
for a day, that could cause a delay.

One other important note, emails sent mid to late afternoon on Friday
California time, or over the weekend, will usually be answered the
following Monday. (Some of us do sneak a peak at email over the weekend,
but this is not guaranteed.) In rare cases, the email volume received
over the weekend can be very high, causing an additional day delay for
some replies, pushing them to Tuesday. We try to minimize that, but we
can only read and type so fast.. ;-)

Also note that we are not on the same time zone (or day) in many cases
as the sender. (Important for emails form Eu or Asia).

And to repeat, please call us at 831-763-4211 if you are not able to
reach us by email.

Re: [Elecraft] Wait For The K4 Direct RF Sampled SDR?

2013-03-14 Thread k3ndm
I suspected that was the case. I'm a little out of being current, but S/N on
some of the devices I remember were not that great as compared to the better
sound cards. 16 bits, ideally should allow 96 db dynamic range. However, you
are correct, you don't get the full 16 bits. The oversampling and processing
does buy you improvement, but you still need to contend with the 16 bits of
quantization and the need to put some amplification ahead of the A/D to improve
SNR. That gain should negatively impact on dynamic range. I, too, am waiting to
see what Sherwood has to say. It should be interesting.

I do know this. Operating FD last year with a K3 and a KX3 using QRP power and
from the same RV. The only problem we had was my KX3 LO being picked up by the
K3. I forgot to turn on the isolation amplifier. Other than that, there was no
problem. In the chaos of Field Day, the filtering appeared to be superb.

Re: [Elecraft] K2, Hi-cur reading

2013-03-14 Thread Don Wilhelm

Hans,

You will have to remove the connector from P6 - the K2 still thinks the
KAT2 is connected.
If you installed all 10 pins as instructed, it will be tight. Try
prying it up bit by bit with a small screwdriver.

The 320 ohms on the collectors of Q7 and Q8 indicate that the PA
transistors have failed. It is possible that your initial problems with
the KAT2 caused the PA transistors to be stressed.

I would strongly recommend that you order the K2PAKIT from Elecraft
because it contains matched PA transistors and also replacements for Q11
and Q13 which sometimes fail as a secondary problem when the PA
transistors fail.

Gentlemen:
I think you muddy the waters when you refer to preamps and electrolet
headsets such as the CM500 in the same context. There is no appreciable
current flow in the CM-500. That's why you can run the bias for years with a
pair of AAA batteries. Let's take discussions of preamps with 10 ma circuits
and legacy items like carbon mics to another thread.

Normal close speech is in the
range of about 1 to 10 Pa, so this is pretty high compared to a lot of other
mics, up to .8 V. I have not tried connecting one up, but I would think if
you had a resistor that provides about 10 ma it should work, if the rig can
stand that high an input and if the bias can supply 10 ma.
Active Noise Cancelling headsets have other power options, maybe running off
28V. I am not aware of 48V systems in Commercial aviation, but I don't know
everything that is out there. Carbon mics were different but not common any
more.

One issue is to keep the load mic preamp from disturbing the bias. I had to
filter the bias end of the series resistor on one rig with a big cap. Also,
connections vary.

Also, any advancement we make to the K3 will be retrofittable to

Re: [Elecraft] Elecraft; Is there a problem with emailing Sales?

2013-03-14 Thread Don Wilhelm
As Eric pointed out, email to support will normally get a quicker
response than emails to sales - if it is a support question rather than
a sales question.

There are at least 3 persons monitoring the support emails while the
emails to sales are monitored by only one person who may be out for the
day or otherwise overloaded with email. I deal with emails to both
sales and support for questions about repairs, and I can tell you that
the response times to emails to individuals in the sales department
indicate that they are very busy.

If it involves a question about an order, yes sales is the right email,
but if it is a technical question, direct it to support for the most
prompt (and accurate) response.

Re: [Elecraft] Kenwood Mc-60 mic with K2

2013-03-14 Thread Don Wilhelm
The MC-60 (not A) schematic that I see on the G4WPW website indicates
that the switch changes from low impedance to high impedance. For use
with the K3 and other modern transceivers the switch should be in the
low impedance position.
From the schematic, I cannot understand an out label on the switch.
If you have an MC-60A, then out would be reasonable referring to the
preamp either in or out.

Re: [Elecraft] Dual receive using the K2. What's the best way to make that happen?

2013-03-14 Thread Larry Phipps
You might want to consider LP-PAN 2. It will not only give you dual
receive, but also all the DSP bells and whistles of a Flex Radio and a
real time panadapter as well. You would have to modify your K2 to add an
IF output jack, but this is well documented and lots of guys have done
it. It requires a PC, of course. The display width, and therefore the
range over which you can run split is determined by the quality of your
sound card, with ~200kHz being the max.

Total cost if you have a suitable PC and sound card would be approx.
$300. Email me off list if you're interested in more info.

Re: [Elecraft] Wait For The K4 Direct RF Sampled SDR?

2013-03-14 Thread glen worstell
If you are waiting to see what the Flex 6000 is like you might take a
look at the Apache-Labs ANAN-10 or ANAN-100d. The advantages:
- software is free forever.
- different versions of software are available for both windows and linux.
- source code and hardware schematics are available.
- it is actually available.

My in-the-shack evaluation (without test equipment) is:
- KX3 and ANAN-10 receive performance is equal (excellent).
- both are better than my Kenwood TS-480 (no surprise).
- panadapter on ANAN-10 is quite a bit better than NaP3, but NaP3 is
good enough for my operating style.
- ANAN-10 requires a computer (only required for KX3 NaP3 panadapter).
- KX3 is the 'only' choice for backpacking or portable.
- ANAN-10 will receive on two or more different bands at the same time.
If this is important I'd choose either the ANAN or a loaded K3.

If I had to choose for a home station I'd pick (barely) the KX3.

Of course for quite a bit more $ my first choice would be a loaded K3
and large screen panadapter.

Re: [Elecraft] Kenwood Mc-60 mic with K2

2013-03-14 Thread Joe Subich, W4TV

With a preamp switch on the base, that is an MC-60A.

What position is the slide switch *on the microphone*? That is the
switch that determines high vs. low impedance. You want it in the
Low (500 Ohm) position for the K2 (and K3). There are two switches
- the one toward the rear is impedance, the one toward the front is
ON/OFF (the microphone element is disconnected in the OFF position).

If your microphone did not come with a manual, you may want to download
a copy from: http://homepage.ntlworld.com/wadei/MC-60A.pdf or
http://www.n6wk.com/kenwood/MC-60A.pdf

[Elecraft] (KX3) PBT SSB Menu

2013-03-14 Thread Joel Black

Is there a way to make the PBT SSB menu setting stay in nor mode?

I know it came out with the latest version of FW, but I cannot seem to
make it stay.

Reading the FW update page, I see where if I want to alternate between
nor and LoHi Cut, I can program a PFx button. Is that the intention
if I want it to stay on one setting or the other?

Not complaining, just wondering if it's working as intended.
