Gene and all. They give you the model number FHA-25B-6015-E150. The
current revision is "C". These are last year's models at 90% off list
price. I'd say the 25-size unit is overkill for a home shop. This motor
is designed for use in industrial robot arms, the kind of machine that
welds or paints car bodies.

Here is what you need to know:

.. it would be totally appropriate to add these in the rtapi_stdint.h
header, IMO.

.. though on a current system, the "stdint.h" header is available even
in the presence of "-ffreestanding", and provides identifiers like
INT32_MAX, so maybe we should check whether compilers that *don't*
support "stdint.h" when freestanding have fallen off the end of our
architecture support, in which case we can simplify this. In C99, a
"conforming freestanding implementation shall accept" programs that use
. Of course, I didn't check what is *actually* available when
building kernel modules, since I don't have any RTAI systems handy.

This guy describes how to build a 4th axis and how to read and de-cypher
the part numbers. Very clear explanations of how to do the design and
machine work WITHOUT any cast metal parts.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mmOnktzifeg
Listen to the part where he talks about why you want the "F" type. These
will take typical machining loads.

I see these parts for sale on eBay for $200 to $250.

Yes. A "harmonic drive" is a trade marked name and there is only one
company who makes them. All the specs are on their web site the even
have CAD drawings (dxf files) everything they make.

2018-01-08 Thread John Dammeyer
I bought one of the FHA-B types and it's the same size as the FHA-C. I've
had contact with the manufacturer and they have been quite helpful.

Andy's blog gives an idea of size of the FHA-B and he has castings
available.
http://bodgesoc.blogspot.ca/2017/05/harmonic.html

I've 3D printed a holder for mine that better fits the slots on my mill and
still gives me a reference slot. The base is about 8.5" x 5" and the whole
thing is about 8" tall. I will be able to swing my 9" faceplate I use on my
South Bend Lathe. I had to 3D print it in 4 pieces after drawing it up in
Alibre. Haven't yet decided if I'll do a lost PLA casting or add body
filler material and use it as a pattern.

http://www.autoartisans.com/cnc/FullSize-5.jpg Back view
http://www.autoartisans.com/cnc/FullSize-4.jpg On Mill.

Fullsize-4 shows it bolted on an earlier 1/4 prototype and bolted to the
mill table. More than enough room for a collet holder and a mill.

I'll be using an STMBL AC Servo drive for it.

Yes but I did not notice I had to fill path correct. The pins ended up under
root in hal configuration.

What is in for one is out for the other so I also had to get correct direction
then I could see the inputs and even though outputs are not visible I guess
they are correct in the other end.

If anybody is interested I could pack the files up in a zip file. Eventually I
should try to get them in the normal way thru git but guess there is not enough
time before weekend. There are quite a lot to do to get a useful driver but
simple hardcoded IO it seems to handle.

For a few days while also visiting night club both friday and saturday this
feels like a wonder.

That is the newest version offered to a wheezy machine.

So it's an Ubuntu install then.

I've got it on a 10.04 LTS lcnc install and it works just fine. Must
be something you've done with that machine that breaks it. Which
wheezy? Ubuntu or Debian?

This is straight from the install image at linuxcnc.org. With lots of
additions because this machine is the doall machine. 100% updated 2 to
4x a week.

Then something is broken somewhere.  There's no reason installing it
from the command line from the Calibre web site should croak and die
like it did, unless something is missing, turned off, or mangled in the
system.  I've installed from the command line on 10.04, 12.04, 14.04 and
now 16.04.

What have you done with the system other than edit and change the lcnc
configuration files?  It's quite possible if you were monkeying with
library files something got hosed or there are incompatible lib files on
the system that interact with programs like wget.

Calibre "Just Works", and has for the last 4 iterations of Ubuntu software.

Yes ...

I started with old driver and everything except what was needed where cleaned
there basically was little more than a call to rtapi_app_main(...) and the
copyright notice left. Then I copied the internal from test.c file into
rtapi_app_main(...) and thread and after an hour two I actually have
communication with Ethercat device from linuxcnc. This is much faster than I
could imagine.

It feels like a really good start but now I have to slowdown until the next
weekend.

I need to add some pins hal pins to make it useful and get some order on the
data before I could give a try on something real. Then of course hard coded
configuration is not good and standard should be followed.

I guess I'm old school, mc is my file manager. I don't even know if it
can be a drag & drop src. And it turns out that any epub's I may have
had were wiped with a new install, circa 3+ years ago, as the only ones
present on the system today are part of the calibre install.

I've been playing with it for the last half hour, and the only thing it
can open anything with is with gimp, and that spits out errors, failing
to actually display the contents. So its gone downhill in a well oiled
little red wagon since the last time I poked at it.

Now its time to go feed the missus, & after that, write some gcode to
carve a reversed 5C on an alu rod currently sticking out of the Sheldons
spindle, which I had to regrind for concentricity, it was bent about 5
thou, probably by the same fallover that wrecked the compound and
probably at least 2 owners back in time. This is to make a new 5C
adapter by grinding the grizzly part down to the abbreviated MT5 in the
Sheldon spindle. I'll make a lathe out of this thing yet.

That version is incredibly ancient.  That's pretty much a beta version
and close to 10 years old.  Have you tried to get a newer version
through the software manager?

I am glad it works for you Mark, but it doesn't work here as
anything but a pretty face pdf /only/ viewer.

Can't help with a broken OS install.  What OS and version are you
running?

The 32 bit wheezy lcnc install.

I've got it on a 10.04 LTS lcnc install and it works just fine. Must be
something you've done with that machine that breaks it. Which wheezy?
Ubuntu or Debian?  The Ubuntu version is 12.04 and I had it on a desktop
and Calibre worked just fine with that version. My guess is your
tinkering with the system broke something that's keeping you from
installing the latest version.  I've never had any of the problems with
most of the software your machine seems to have issues with.

2018-01-08 Thread Les Newell

Hi Gene,

I have used Calibre process a LOT of ebooks and the only books it has
failed on are scanned pdfs, ones with DRM and occasional corrupted
files. It most definitely will open epub and I generally use it to
convert whatever format the book comes in to epub. I have to admit it's
conversion of pdf to other formats isn't great but very few packages do
a good job of that.

I don't know why it wouldn't see the epub when you tried opening it. Try
dragging a file out of a file manager and dropping it into calibre. I
often do that.

Les

The ebooks I have bought, have cost me over $50 so far, and the distros
versions of calibre have yet to read even one of them. So pardon me
for being skeptical while quoting the whole transaction above.

But thanks for the link(s)

The calibre I currently have installed, version unk because it doesn't
have such a critter in its about or help screens, reads a pdf just fine,
but does not even show an e-pub thats present in the same directory.
And it cannot the pdf on deat tree from the pdf w/o a huge waste of
paper and ink, apparently totally ignoring what the printer says it can
do.

FWIW I have 2, one being a cheap very fast brother b laser, letter
size paper only, and a MFCJ6920DW brother ink squirter, slow, but can
do up to 11x17 duplex.

So obviously I don't use it, evince or okular both work far better. Works
great on rockhopper output run thru ps2poster though.

Yes three of them and a macro ...
