Re: [Emc-users] Feed control

2014-06-12 Thread a k
It was interesting help in all aspects.

World is theater and people actors. So we all play some role.

It did not discourage me.

Why?

Less than 7 month ago The United States Government could not find smart
contractor to make gov. health care web to work properly. We are talking
about The United States Government!

Order to build such web looks like was given about a year -12 month ahead
of time.

The result – was disaster – nothing was working right.

Question is why smart people around of word did not react and help to The
United States Government?

Or maybe they did!!

Or probably they set similar respond that I got.

Why not?

Sounds like a comedy story, but very probable one.

Who was the contractor for the US Government – big software company – and
it was not for FREE for sure.

Another fact.

In State of Oregon, Government of State of Oregon contracted similar job-
similar web for health care to

ORACLE -- http://www.oracle.com/index.html-- who does not know it???

Own by famous Lawrence Joseph Larry Ellison -
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Larry_Ellison

And after spending many millions – web for Oregon still did not
work right—Gov. of State of Oregon decided to abandon all work that was
done by ORACLE and joint the federal gov medical web.

1--- “You are a bottomless pit of a sense of entitlement.”

2 “Please, use your grey cells to understand”

3“giving a man a fish versus teaching him, how to catch
a fish.”

4“demanding a free consultation, and then not taking the medicine he
prescribes for you!
What was that you were saying about logic and common sense?”

5“What you are doing now is not working.”

6“for what you want to do and then ask for bids for
the work.”

7“help
your are all wasting their time and are obviously frustrated.”

8-“ask for bids for
the work.”

9“I think you should control your anger.
Never seen anybody calling you stupid or brainless. Neither seen anybody
being disrespectful to you.”

Just look remarkable statements above.

Did United State government received similar because of web for health
care?

This is not LinuxCNC this is major web creation. Much More companies it web
creation business

Why ORACLE could not do it?

Maybe same people that address angry e-mal to me can share their valuable
opinion with Larry Ellison /ORACLE--about why web for State of Oregon
could not be fix?

A lot to learn from this e-mail.

I think it should conclude moral teaching/lecturing part.

Conclusion.

   1. Look a bigger world around of you. Look on what you said from longer
   distance.
   2. Concentrate on important part and that will change over the time.

  This is Great attitude!

Need close down all language school. Dictionary and grammar book there
  – just read book and what ever else available and that is it.

From one radio program I found out that it took many years of hard
work and help from famous tutor to Australian artist to learn how to
  speak like American (US English).

In that radio talk I did not found anything about “use your grey

  different type.

  Does this sounds familiar situation?

No, but its beginning to look a lot like a troll from here. But please
read on, it could be quite educational.

  1.1 loadrt

I have that loadrt scale count=1

Somewhat Correct. 1 instance, starting from base 0. But IIRC scale is
not a base_thread module as its floating point, so it must be
servo_thread. Only modules that do not do floating point math can be
added to the base_thread execution loop.

  1.2 add

I have that addf scale servo-thread

 Wrong. scale s/b scale.0

  1.3 load usr

  what need here ?

  loadusr scale ? servo-thread?

 loadusr scale count=1

 Later in the file:
 addf scale.0 servo_thread

For this, analyze the sequence of operations, then list the addf's is the
top to bottom order because this is the order they will be executed in.
Done in the wrong order, it might be quite a few servo_threads time
slices before an error value actually gets to where it can adjust things.
In the right order, each module addf'd will do its calculations and have
them ready for the next module to absorb, and the propagation delay from
start to finish will be a fraction of the normal 1 millisecond
servo_thread. Servo systems are many times more stable when these
unwanted delays are minimized to the extent possible.

  1.4 Net

net starts a linkage in the following format:
net; nameofsignal; source of signal; destination of signal; repeat as
needed. Skip the semi-colons I used, a space separator is all thats
 required.

net nameofsignal can be reused later but will take all arguments as
 additional output fanouts.

  Something

Net scale –percent scale.0.out= motion.adaptive feed
 s/b more like
net nameofsignal scale.0.out motion.adaptive_feed.in(check the manpage for
motion to make sure the dots and underscores used match the manpage. My
aged wet ram doesn't always remember such details)

The = isn't needed as its the position in the space or tab separated line
 that truly counts.
Basically net tells hal how to parse the line. Same for setp or addf or
 one of the loads.

The next (2nd) argument is the name of your signal, totally arbitrary, use
a label you will understand 6 months down the log.
The 3rd argument is the source of the signal, in this case scale.0.out
The 4th, and all subsequent arguments on this same line are where the
scale.0.out data is to be sent.

All of this is in the integrators manual, so I always highly recommend
downloading the pdf of it and making it into dead tree format, punched
mounted in a cheap 3 ring binder so it can be studied and learned from in
a comfortable sitting position with minimal distraction.

I'll finish be stating that there are quite a few people here who are far
more adept at this than I, but they can't get anywhere until you are
willing to do the testing exactly as you have been requested to do, in
this case by Andy, but rarely actually do. Without that level of co-
operation on your part you are forcing the folks that can probably help
you to do a lot of guessing and wheel spinning. That is not productive
use of anyones time. These people, none of them paid, are taking the

I think you should control your anger.
Never seen anybody calling you stupid or brainless. Neither seen anybody
 being disrespectful to you.

  Yes.

   Use the scale HAL component
  http://www.linuxcnc.org/docs/html/man/man9/scale.9.html

And connect the output to motion.feed-override.
  http://www.linuxcnc.org/docs/html/man/man9/motion.9.html

Note that you need to enable feed-override with a G-code.

2014-06-10 21:17 GMT+03:00 a k pccncmach...@gmail.com:
 hm2-servo.hal:206: addf failed

This thread has been around for more than a week and basically is not
moving forward, because lots of different answers are provided
basically for the same question over and over again. This reminds me
the saying about giving a man a fish versus teaching him, how to catch
a fish.

Aram, did you know that those error messages are useful and contain
meaningful information? Please, do try to read that whole stuff next
time.
For example, if you pay 30 seconds, you can find the line that says
addf failed.
I do not know, how about you, but to me it tells that there is a
mistake with this line
addf scale servo-thread line

How do I know? Because error message says that it failed! I do not
understand approximately 95% of error message output, but in 98% cases
there is one line, which contain some words that I have in my config
and that line tells, where should I look for the cause.

If you then try reasonable thinking and actually using your existing
config as an example, you can find that hal components need instance
number in addf line.

For example:
loadrt and2 count=2

addf and2.0 servo-thread
addf and2.1 servo-thread

Please, use your grey cells to understand, what is missing in your line:
addf scale servo-thread.

And also do not forget to correct the pin names of scale component, if
you will figure out, what is missing

Re: [Emc-users] Feed control

2014-06-10 Thread a k
Basically I have a small dictionary (link to HAL) and I need to write –
very good poetry – story and without mistakes – otherwise it – program will
not work.

If one can read dictionary and grammar book than he can write poetry/
story/novel book in any language!!!

This is Great attitude!

Need close down all language school. Dictionary and grammar book there –
just read book and what ever else available and that is it.

From one radio program I found out that it took many years of hard work
and help from famous tutor to Australian artist to learn how to speak like
American (US English).

In that radio talk I did not found anything about “use your grey cells” and
you can speak any language. Maybe because people was different type.

Does this sounds familiar situation?

1.1 loadrt

I have that loadrt scale count=1

1.2 add

I have that addf scale servo-thread

1.3 load usr

what need here ?

loadusr scale ? servo-thread?

1.4 Net

Something

Net scale –percent scale.0.out= motion.adaptive feed

1.5 setp

 setp scale.0. gain 0.000344

setp scale.0. offset 0.417

1. 6 sets

do not have that do I neet it?

the saying about giving a man a fish versus teaching him, how to catch

And Gene did reply:
Basically I have a small dictionary (link to HAL) and I need to write

If one can read dictionary and grammar book than he can write poetry/
 story/novel book in any language!!!

 This is Great attitude!

Need close down all language school. Dictionary and grammar book there
 – just read book and what ever else available and that is it.

From one radio program I found out that it took many years of hard
work and help from famous tutor to Australian artist to learn how to
 speak like American (US English).

In that radio talk I did not found anything about “use your grey
cellsâ€‌ and you can speak any language. Maybe because people was
 different type.

These people, none of them paid, are taking the time
to try and lead you, and correct whatever it is you may have done wrong,
doing it hopefully in a manner that will teach you.

 1.5 setp

  setp scale.0. gain 0.000344
Junk the space, it is scale.0.gain
 setp scale.0. offset 0.417
Ditto.

 1. 6 sets

do not have that do I neet it?

Its a slightly obsolete keyword, but still parsed by hal I believe. Use
is not encouraged.

You have swapped the wrong wires.

Peter was talking about the input to the THCAD. ie, the connections from
the Potentiometer to the THCAD.

If you put the black probe from the multimeter on the -IN terminal of the
THCAD and the red probe on the +IN terminal, is the number on the
multimeter positive or negative?

As a supplementary question, what is the THCAD -IN terminal wired to?

Yes.

 Use the scale HAL component
http://www.linuxcnc.org/docs/html/man/man9/scale.9.html

And connect the output to motion.feed-override.
http://www.linuxcnc.org/docs/html/man/man9/motion.9.html

Note that you need to enable feed-override with a G-code.

Sorry, I got that wrong. I was talking about motion.adaptive-feed
(Which is almost certainly what you want).

You could also use halui.feed-override.counts and set the direct-value
bit to enable direct value, but that isn't realtime. (it emulates
moving a slider on the GUI)

You need values to suit the new numbers.

out = in * gain + offset.

You want a difference of 4350 counts to give a factor of 150%, so the
scale is 1.5 / 4350

setp scale.0.gain 0.00034483

And then the value at 0V = 0.00034483 * 1210 = 0.4172

setp scale.0.offset -0.4172

then connect to adaptive feed

net scaled-percent scale.0.out = motion.adaptive-feed

I am wondering if you have the potentiometer wired up correctly.

Can you actually get the voltmeter to read 0V, 1V, 2V, 3V and 4V exactly?

TCHCAD board has two power in terminals.
First --- to make board work.- and i use USB to do that. Voltage
reading between 4.89 to 4.88
Second to input variable Voltage from 0 up to +5V DC. i use for that
cell phone charger and potentiometer.
Yes, i can make 1 V DC 2 or 3 or 4 or 5 or anything between those figures
--V DC with potentiometer. Maximum reading of voltage from potentiometer

Hello
I did connect everything.
Card THCAD power ON i can see 1 led light is ON and second one blinking

i did check

--Then (if you are using Axis) Machine - Halmeter and look at the pin
-called hm2_5i20.0.encoder.03.velocity and you should see it change as
---the THCAD sees a varying input voltage.
yes there is changing numbers
when potentiometer in max position number -0.97
and when it in min position number -0.78
also yes number constantly changing from 3rd figures to back.
i understand that scale number is important - right now -as an example it
is
12345

right now i want to know in general range of figures --like -0.97 should be
under the 1. or above etc

how low -0.78 should be ? down to what?
Also i think that with potentiometer i should be able to move cursor - feed
-
on Axis display.
am i right? because this is final target

thank you

Something here isn't making sense. the THCAD ought to be linear.

If you connect a voltmeter to the THCAD inputs, what do you see?

I don't see how 20% and 0.78 - 0.79 are the same thing. That sounds like 0.012%

change voltage from 0 to 5 change encoder velocity to 20% ( from 0.78
  to 0.79)
with this range of 20% how i can change feed from 0-150%?

Something here isn't making sense. the THCAD ought to be linear.

If you connect a voltmeter to the THCAD inputs, what do you see?

I don't see how 20% and 0.78 - 0.79 are the same thing. That sounds
 like 0.012%

If that is the voltage at the summing junction, its entirely believable.

And in my experience feeding the summing junction direct, is a huge source
of non-linearity in control. I have gained usable linearity by feeding
the pwm to analog voltage into the motor controller thru a 100k ohm
resistor.

I of course do not have any experience with the THC card, so could be way
off base. Just throwing it out to see if it sticks. ;-)

Cheers, Gene Heskett

The first thing you should do is explain if this potentiometer is
going to be the control in the final system, or if it is just there
for testing.

Then you should check that the voltage on the actual TCHCAD input
terminals is what you are saying it is. I am not going to reply on
this thread any more until you explicitly state that you have put a
voltmeter on the terminals and have read 0V and 5V.

 hi
do i need build this power supply
 http://www.learningaboutelectronics.com/Articles/How-to-connect-a-voltage-regulator-in-a-circuit
 for 5+ Vdc?
i think it is better to have exact 5v because it will effect final result
 of feed control?
does this assemble will have enough power for my application?
i have variable resister 0.5W , will it be enough or i need 1 Watt 2W etc?

 thank you

If you are using a THCAD the THCAD power normally comes from the encoder
interface wiring (7I33 5V and GND in your case), You do not need another
power supply

 Yes.

 setp hm2_[HOSTMOT2](BOARD).0.encoder.03.counter-mode 1

 Yes

or just add (setp hm2_5i20.0.encoder.03.scale 1234.5678) into

 hm2-servo.hal?

 That.

Then (if you are using Axis) Machine - Halmeter and look at the pin
called hm2_5i20.0.encoder.03.velocity and you should see it change as
the THCAD sees a varying input voltage.

Adding an extra axis adds a lot more than it needed. You don't need
the PID and you don't actually have the extra axis.

Why not try doing it the way I said?

Just change the Hostmot2 configuration string to have 4 encoders and
then make the other changes I suggested?

In the configuration you have the hostmot2 confog string is actually
defined in the INI file and read from the INI file into the HAL file.
So you need to make the ...num_encoders=4... change in the INI file,
not the HAL file, but the rest of the recipe stays the same.

Re: [Emc-users] Feed control

2014-05-20 Thread a k
I think that Steve was right about -written in Martian.

Yes I did read Integrators Manual first time in 2006 but I never saw
implementation – take this part – change to this and you will get this –
and this is working.

I remember Ray Henry show something at work shop but than time I was busy
learning tuning ac servo motors.

Some idea—when I want to buy any book, first thing I check –from author—to
who he/she designate this book.

It can be just a beginner with no experience, it can be semi experienced
individual or for guru.

Question is to who designated Integrators Manual? Yes it is Linux however
it is also CNC. CNC means people from machine shop that interesting in new
technology and doing something to learn it. I did build with EMC2 working 3
axis CNC mill – it is working since 2008.

Point is that there is need in better delivery LinuxCNC to the final/end
user.

///

About –

1) Make sure that there is a spare encoder counter, find the relevant
line in the HAL file and change it:
loadrt hm2_pci config=num_encoders=4..

-HAL file – is this file m5i20_motion.hal ?

Direction to it – PlacesDesktopemc2configs5i20m5i20_motion.hal?

///

At the beginning of this file, if it right one—loadrt hal_m5i20

…….

Maybe instead “change” need add

loadrt hm2_pci config=num_encoders=4.. ???

also - i use 7i33 which is for 4 axis. in that file only xyz axis so i need
to add 4 axis ?

Thanks

OK, perhaps Aram has had no requirement to change his LinuxCNC
configuration for the last 6 years.

To make the THCAD control feed rate:

 1) Make sure that there is a spare encoder counter, find the relevant
line in the HAL file and change it:
 loadrt hm2_pci config=num_encoders=4..
 2) Set the 4th encoder to counter-mode:
 setp hm2_5i20.0.encoder.03.counter-mode 1
 3) set the scale such that 5V = 100%
setp hm2_5i20.0.encoder.03.scale 1234.5678 (The number should be found
 by experiment)
 4) Connect the encoder velocity to the adaptive-feed pin:
 net feed-control hm2_5i20.encode.03.velocity = motion.adaptive-feed

 Adaptive-feded is described here:
 http://www.linuxcnc.org/docs/html/man/man9/motion.9.html

I have no idea. That driver disappeared between versions 2.2 and 2.3.
It also has no velocity output pin, so won't do what you need.

I had not realised that you were using such an old version of LinuxCNC.
The documentation for the driver you are using is here:
http://www.linuxcnc.org/docs/2.2/html/hal_drivers.html#r1_5

You _might_ be able to use a software encoder connected to the parallel port
http://www.linuxcnc.org/docs/2.2/html/man/man9/encoder.9.html
but I rather suspect that the THCAD pulses too fast for that.

A better solution is the ddt HAL component that could be used to
differentiate the position pin value to give a velocity.

Re: [Emc-users] Feed control

2014-05-18 Thread Marius Liebenberg
You must look at the integrators manual and look at the HAL components
that are available. You dont have to know C just how to read. You will
find all you need in the manuals.
Find the encoder component not the hostmot stuff. Use man encoder.

You will need some electronics that turn your 5v into some form of
digital value that can be translated to a value in the software. As you
only have a parallel port you will have to turn the voltage into a
frequency. Then you use the parport pin that is connected to the encoder
component in the HAL file to connect your signal to the feed value.

All of this has been told to you before and the only way you are going
to get this done is to learn a bit about setting up of Linuxcnc.

Now I have given you the solution, you must go and try it. If you have
problems trying, we will all be willing to help you.

One last thing, please update your software as support for the old stuff
is no longer available as we have all moved on to the latest production
release. See how to do this by looking at the wiki pages for updating
linuxcnc.

Good luck. :)

You haven't said what the source of your 0-5V is. If it is from a knob
and potentiometer then the encoder is easier and much cheaper.
If the control voltage isn't from a hand-control then the encoder
 isn't the answer.

I have just realised that an Arduino Nano is about $6. Those have 4
analogue 0-5V inputs, and there is a HAL module to interface with them
 via USB.
(Or, alternatively, you could make one output pulses for an encoder
counter if you really needed proper realtime response).

I am not 100% sure that it works out-of-the-box with a Nano, the
example uses a Diecimilia which has more analogue inputs (I think).

But with small changes to the code on the Arduino it ought to work.

2014-05-13 Thread Marius Liebenberg
Just a small word of warning here. I did the analog input thing with the
Arduino. There is code on the wiki that already works well. BUT the
usb route is not reliable for critical applications. Due to the fact
that the usb is not hot pluggable, it will disappear from the devices
list with any small hiccup or loss of connection. This happens
frequently where inductive machines/loads are present. Normally the
connection will be restored automatically but with linuxcnc it is gone
once dropped. You have to restart the controller.

I am busy with a IO expander for the parport and instead of using the
usb like before, I am using three pins and writing a i2c interface to
communicate with the devices.

Kirk Wallace has done a circuit and driver code for an AToD and DAC
board. These are also on the wiki but if you cannot find it let me know
and I will hunt the link down again.

In that case the idea of using the analogue inputs to drive a
frequency output into an encoder channel is probably more robust.

it is nearly as simple as

void setup(){
pinMode(0, OUTPUT);

void loop(){

Yes and then just do a lowpass filter with a rc on the input of an opamp
(voltage follower) to get a nice smooth dc voltage that is controlled by
the PWM. Oh I just noticed you suggested a tone. In that case use a 555
to do FTV (frequency to voltage) converter. Just as easy. Many circuits
on Google.
