[e-users] post svn82296 e17 - svn83292 gets to second screen

2013-01-24 Thread Arvind R
Hi,

After efl-svn82296, I could never get e17 working - used to hang at
the first screen or part.

With efl-svn-83292, e17-svn82392 shows the first screen - but a blank
one. If bottom window clicked,
now gets to second screen, with box below - also blank. No crash, nothing.

But .xsession-errors now has a new line:

e_comp.c:1131 NOCOMP win 800034 shobj 0xef3670

This is with a clean start-up - no .e directory.

Is the problem with my system? Or is efl broken?

Am now sending this with efl/ethumb/emotion of svn82296,
elementary/terminology/e17 of svn83292!
Still unable to test the eina_prefix_new upstream changes -:(

 Hello, List

1 - I am sure I am not using the right method to retrieve and compile the
source, and if someone could help me I will appreciate, but after trying the
git method and the easy_17 method, only easy17 gave me some results. Git
methos tells me that I have to download around 1 million objects and even
with my best efforts, download speed is not more than 30KB, so I will have to
wait an eternity to the process start. Is there a way to improve it?

2 - After easy17 running, I had to skip a lot of modules, because of
 e_mod_main having no dbus references

3 - Compiled the basic, after start e17, where is the installed applications
in the menu? last version I installed in my debian 6, 0.16.999.71439, all the
references on the applications were there. What am I doing wrong?
use our RELEASES... download the efl tarballs and e17 release tarballs. don't
use git. don't use easy0e17. these use svn or whatever is in development at
any point in time - its not released and unless you closely follow development
and work WITH developers, it's going to be a big problem using svn -
especially since we have been merging our source trees etc. so... either get
in or get out. by that i mean - get deep into development, tracking
progress, helping out, and being aware of everything going on and why, OR...
stick to our stable releases. there is a nice about e17 page telling you how
to build it all FROM releases.

 http://www.enlightenment.org/p.php?p=about/e17
I'd add to be absolutely sure that apt removed EVERYTHING it installed.
I was having a lot of problems recently and discovered that I had a few
old e libraries left over in /usr/share/, after apt had supposedly
uninstalled. Once that cruft was gone my git install is much, much better.

I keep a stable 1.7.5 install in /opt/e17 and my git install in
/opt/e17-dev, and I have ~/.e-stable and ~/.e-dev configurations. I
like to help test work with devs with the git install, but if I have
problems I can go back to the stable install.

4 - Composing took me almost 60% of opengl performance. Even with an nvidia
board overclocked, performance with vsync turned on is more stable than with
it off, but it limits the framerate on 60fps, and after 3 opengl applications
running, it starts to degrade. Any suggestions?
60% of what... glxgears? also there just is no point doing 60fps (assuming
your refresh rate is 60hz). that's the point of vsync. to do tear-free
 rendering.

5 - I was always a big fan of enlughtenment, since version 16, when I changed
windowmaker to e16, and I understand the decision of stabilish goals to
finish version 17, but in my opinion, it is a very steep transition, and some
of them may make users run away from e17

well, it is just my 2 cents.
there is no transition... e17 is an entirely different wm.

2013-01-24 Thread wilson
Dave,

Thanks a LOT!

It worked perfectly!
Menu was populated, composing takes less than I measured before (not 60%, just
40% now) and yes, I know that e16 was different from e17, but I was talking
about the transition from 0.16.999 to 0.17, but since I was using the wrong
method of compiling and getting the wrong sources, well... never mind.

I miss some points and applications but nothing that I couldnt take care of.

Thank you again!

Well, I can tell you how I get E17 up and running. I'm not using git or

Then I compile the e17 package.

All works fine for me, on a Debian Testing platform.

2 - After easy17 running, I had to skip a lot of modules, because of
  e_mod_main having no dbus references

Not sure, based on your description of the issue. I assume you haven't
 compiled the e_dbus library.

0.16.999.71439, all the references on the applications were there. What
  am I doing wrong?

The Applications menu is nicely populated on my system. It could be
because of your old configuration. Try starting with a brand new config.

The stable e17 release will wipe your old configuration automatically, so
make sure to backup your current configuration if you want to revert it.

4 - Composing took me almost 60% of opengl performance. Even with an

stable than with it off, but it limits the framerate on 60fps, and after
3 opengl applications running, it starts to degrade. Any suggestions?

Do you want a framerate of more than 60fps? If your monitor is refreshing
at that rate, then it seems rather useless to have it any higher.

The stable e17 release may help you with this. Try that out, and see how
 it performs for you.

E17 is a completely different beast to E16. Other than some design
decisions being inherited, it's effectively unrelated to E16. It's more
than just a version up from E16. Probably should have had a different
name, except that Enlightenment is an awesome name, and it's hard to give
 that up.

Maybe should have called it the E2000. It's certainly had enough work
done on it over the years to deserve the version bump. Plus, it can now
keep well ahead of firefox, for the next few years at least.

It would appear that on Jan 24, Carsten Haitzler did say:

its a simple radiobutton selection list in the composite settings - software
 or
gl. you can choose (if you have the choice :) - otherwise you'll just get
 software).

there are 2 hiccups. 1 - it goes BACK to software even if you had gl enabled
and a separate issue 2. the use argb iwndow option changed to be use
shaped window: and in the process seems to have flipped value and shaped
windows with comp cause much unhappiness.

Well from my point of view then it's all good...

What ever settings I might have are simple... (sounds like the hard stuff
will be up to those who do things like create themes etc...)

And the only thing I might really need to remember is that I might {just
maybe} need to toggle a setting labeled shaped window...

Done worrying!

Thanks for the explanation.

[e-users] isolated efl post-svn82296 problem with e17 startup

2013-01-24 Thread Arvind R
Hi,

Updated everything to svn83292 except libevas. Am able to run E17!!!
Install libevas and E17 does not start. I had to build everything with
lax dependencies to be able to do this. libevas-engines-x is also the
new version. Only libevas needs to left out.

The libevas package contains libevas.so.*, evas/modules/loaders,
evas/modules/savers and evas/checkme.

The .xsession-errors has at the end repeated a few times:

 Hi,

Updated everything to svn83292 except libevas. Am able to run E17!!!
Install libevas and E17 does not start. I had to build everything with
lax dependencies to be able to do this. libevas-engines-x is also the
new version. Only libevas needs to left out.

The libevas package contains libevas.so.*, evas/modules/loaders,
 evas/modules/savers and evas/checkme.

The .xsession-errors has at the end repeated a few times:

 Any clues?

 Arvind

Really, there's something very WRONG with your setup. Nobody sees
these errors. Do you have more than one installation of EFL? Are you
sure you're not linking to old libs? And please, you need to specify
your env better. Versions, distro, and so on.

Am quite sure there are no old libs. Did ldd of all the libs
installed, and tried find on the libs to look for other versions. None
found. Nothing installed in /usr/local or /opt
No network storage
Works fine with svn82296 of efl.

Distro: Debian (testing) wheezy
Kernel 3.7.0 on Quad Core2 with ECC RAM and RAID drives
Xorg 1.13.0 Mesa 9.0.1 Driver Nouveau
efl - svn83307 all except libevas which, as mentioned, is svn82296
(else e17 does not start up)
elementary - svn83290
terminology - svn83290
evas-generic-loaders - svn82942
e17 - svn83292
gcc 4.7.2, libc 2.13

No other WMs no gnome, kde, ... Have been using E17 for since debian
sarge was released, updating once a while. Never had such a problem.

If only I can think of a way to track the start-up ---

Thanks,

[e-users] Window switching issue - Enlightenment 0.17

2013-01-24 Thread Noorul Islam Kamal Malmiyoda
Hello e-users,

Good to see that we have a release now. So, I downloaded the release
tar balls and installed it on my Debian Wheezy setup. Before this I
was using old trunk (before switching to new structure). Actually I
was enjoying that revision. But now with release tar balls, I am not
able to keep windows in full screen. As soon as I switch to other
window using Alt-Tab the full screen window no longer stays in full
screen mode. This is pretty annoying as I use full screen mode a lot.
Is this an expected behavior or is there any specific configuration by
which I can keep windows in full screen mode?

Thanks and Regards
Noorul

Try enabling the allow windows above fullscreen windows option.
It's hidden under advanced focus options.
