Re: Exchange 2000

2001-09-07 Thread Tom . H . Burke

Same AD Forest. The Forest can contain multiple Domains, and indeed multiple
Trees, but it's got to be one Forest. This is because the Global Address List is
drawn from the Global Catalogue, and the 'Global' bit means 'across the whole
Forest'.

There are meta-directory products that allow you to add names from another GC to
yours (and vice-versa), but I've no experience of them and they sound
complicated.

So - you can't have multiple Exchange 2000 Orgs in the same Forest; and a single
Exchange 2000 Org can't span multiple Forests.

Subject: Exchange 2000

Hello All,

A quick question. To enable exchange2000 servers to be in the same exchange
organisation, do they also have to be in the same Windows2000 domain
structure if you are using active directory? Or is it possible to have them
in two separated active directory domain structures and still be in the same
exchange organisation, but in separated sites?

Thanks.

You should configure a demand-dial connection. This isn't configured on
Exchange 2000 but on a Windows 2000 Routing and Remote Access Server
(these can be on the same servers incidentally).

You don't need to do anything to let exchange know there is a
demand-dial connection. The very nature of the demand-dial connection
are that it will dial your ISP whenever it needs to. You just need to
configure your SMTP Connector as normal then create a Demand-dial
connection on you RRAS server. RRAS is installed by default I think, it
just will need configuring.

You don't need to do anything to let exchange know there is a
demand-dial connection. The very nature of the demand-dial connection
are that it will dial your ISP whenever it needs to. You just need to
configure your SMTP Connector as normal then create a Demand-dial
connection on you RRAS server. RRAS is installed by default I think, it
just will need configuring.

okay that would explain why Exchange settings don't seem to help.If I
setup RAS how do I get Exchange to know it is a dial on demand
connection?Sorry if these seem like basic questions but I really am out
of my element here.

You should configure a demand-dial connection. This isn't configured on
Exchange 2000 but on a Windows 2000 Routing and Remote Access Server
(these can be on the same servers incidentally).

Hello,

Is it true that no two mailboxes can be associated with the same primary
user or group account on your Exchange 5.5 server when moving to Exchange
2k? If not, then would there be problems when moving mailboxes from your
5.5 server to ex2k that have the same primary account associated with them?

Thanks,

A directory export and manual search

Mixed

I

There is actually some good info in the help (exadmin.chm) on
modes.   This will sound rude, but search the help for 'native

Mixed mode is only required to communicate with Exchange5.5 servers

the other hand when installing it on a native mode it becomes a universal

Does anyone know what the minimum folder permissions are that are
required to make the NNTP service work when the messages are being
stored in a public folder? Does the folder have to be visiable to
anonymous/default/administrator?

Thanks

RE: Exchange 2000 & NNTP

2001-08-14 Thread Stephen I. Woolhead

I need to know what the minimum set of permissions are needed for a peer
NNTP connection set as a pull feed, to download records from my ISP and
place then into the public folder.

I did have the permisions set for Anonymous & default to contributor,
with folder visable unticked.

If I use a network monitor I can see the articals being downloaded from
the ISP but they never make it to the Public folders, though the folders
for the groups where created.

If I set the permissions to owner for Anonymous & default then the
articals are downloaded to the folders.

The EventLog always reports 'Status is FAILURE.' Never any other info
when I have the permissions set to tight.

I really just want to know so I have a starting point, as not everyone
is to have access to all groups.

Thanks

Stephen

RE: Exchange 2000 Relay

2002-03-12 Thread Adil Hindistan

Well, I think that article actually does not tell you how you can 'open'
your Exch. Server for relaying.
When you expand the Protokols for the server, you'll find SMTP container
and a virtual server in it.

In the properties of the Virtual Server, ACCESS tab, you'll find RELAY
button. As I mentioned Exchange 2000 comes relay-secured. In fact,
you'll see down to window "Allow all computers which successfully
authenticate to relay, regardless of the list above" checkbox checked
and there is no list of computers (IPs) above.

I assume, if you choose "ALL EXCEPT THE LIST BELOW" and also remove the
checkmark your server will be open for relaying. So, if you find
anything unusual, you need to look at here!

If you want to test your server for open relay you can use

http://www.abuse.net/relay.html

But as people have said Exchange 2000 is a closed relay out of the box

(Exchange 2000 alsways fails on some tests although it doesn't actually
relay the message)

Probably a better way of saying this is there a place on the internet
that I can use first to test my system this issue and if it is found to

RE: Exchange 2000 Setting

2002-03-29 Thread Benjamin Zachary

Trying to completely understand, but are the smtp services running on
your server? What about the imap store etc etc. Is port 25 open from the
firewall NAT'ed to the internal IP? Does the server have a gateway so it
can find its way out for mail delivery?

Can you resolve external DNS entries from the internal DNS? Does dns
have the root [.] at the top thus thinking it's the primary zone for all
.com etc etc. If so you probably have to delete that, flush the cache,
put forwarders (optional, but recommended) and you should be able to see
out as well.

No, I meant the pricing. Apparently I can run the enterprise edition
right over the top. This is a single site single org, that just needs
more space, so wasn't worried about that. But now I have to get another

It's probably time to call PSS. But what the hell, I got an hour to
kill. What exact make, model, version, and service pack of antivirus
software do you have on the machine? Did you disable all non-essential
services when you installed SP3? This includes your antivirus software.
For some reason I've got this jones for the scoop on your AV.

Hello Tom,

Arcserve IT SP3 (CA)
Exchange Agent for Arcserver IT
ISA SP1
Exchange 2000 SP3
Hp LC2000

I did disable all non-essential services,

kill. What exact make, model, version, and service pack of antivirus
software do you have on the machine? Did you disable all non-essential
services when you installed SP3? This includes your antivirus software.
For some reason I've got this jones for the scoop on your AV.

RE: Exchange 2000 SP3

2002-07-24 Thread Andy David

Damn, Somebody at CA must have some pretty incriminating pictures of you to
make you load all of their software on that box.
When you are at your wits end and have just about given up, remove, not
just disable, the CA stuff, reboot, and see what happens.
I believe the BkExpandDontRun key gets loaded everytime you eat a Whopper.

Damn, Somebody at CA must have some pretty incriminating pictures of you to
make you load all of their software on that box.
When you are at your wits end and have just about given up, remove, not
just disable, the CA stuff, reboot, and see what happens.
I believe the BkExpandDontRun key gets loaded everytime you eat a Whopper.

kill. What exact make, model, version, and service pack of antivirus
software do you have on the machine? Did you disable all non-essential
services when you installed SP3? This includes your antivirus software.
For some reason I've got this jones for the scoop on your AV.

I have an Exchange 2000 server w/SP2. This morning I
installed SP3 and restarted.

The STORE.EXE is now taking 99% of the CPU.

I tried restarting all Exchange services but still have the
same result.

I also looked for the BkExpandDontRun
enabled in the following registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\ExCDO\Parameters

It is not there.

I did not have this with SP2.

Any idea what’s causing this?

PLEASE HELP..

RE: Exchange 2000 & Mac

2002-05-07 Thread Steve Ens

Yup you can use the Outlook 9 for Mac...it is expressively for Exchange
clients, no POP support. You'll probably also need to create a hosts file
for the Mac. You can also use OWA (easy enough) or Entourage for POP
access. It all depends on how much you want her to use the Exchange
benefits such as scheduling, sharing resources, etc...if only mail is
needed, just use Entourage or something like it.

obvious reasons, but have considered letting her user her Mac Notebook to
get her email while in the office (so I don't have to field ingnorant ?'s
about how PC's work)

Infrastructure: Can Mac OS 9.x work with just TCP/IP to connect to my
Exchange Server. No Routing involved on LAN.

Client: Better for user to use OWA or Outlook. If Outlook, which version
and does is use a PST or can I force the mailbox contents to stay in the IS.

Internal mail, unless on a different subnet will not go through the ISA
server. Hmm, unless maybe you added the SMTP IIS server, or put like
Mail Essentials and everyone used Internet Mail?

If you have exchange servers on different sites/subnets you could use
the ISA to route the traffic (triple nic, or dual nic) for all subnet
and wan traffic. Don't know if this would do much for you since the
exchange-exchange traffic isnt smtp its ldap or whatever that other
protocol that I cant think of at 3am is :)

How, in Exchange 2000, can you schedule modem to connect to pick up
Mail. In 5.5 it was a breeze, in 2000 I cant figure it out. I have found
the schedule to have allow "connector" to Server open but not to dial
out.

Also can anyone point me to a GOOD site/sites for Exchange 2000
info/help and software add ons etc etc. AHave found a few but would
appreciate recommendations.

This may be a quick question.. I Hope..

We are rolling out Exchange 2000 hot and heavy. So far we have migrated
about 4000 5.5 mailboxes.

one issue we have not been able to explain to users and that I have seen
in
my own Inbox. This problem did not show up in testing and I did not see
this in my own inbox until I started to load up the new E2K servers with
users.

Ok, so you have Outlook open and you know an email is coming or at least
you
are checking to see if any is there before you go to a meeting. You
dont
see any messages in Outlook, but if you refresh you screen or click on
another message you get a few emails...? To give you a little more
detail,
I can receive an email on my Blackberry 957 WSM (Wireless-Snail-Mail)
but
not see it in Outlook until I refresh, click on another message, or wait
long enough for some interval to pass.

I am hoping there is some kind of configuration I can adjust to prevent
this
from happening. Around here Execs watch Outlook like its the only thing
they use and most times they know when certain emails are coming or
should
be there. Does anyone know why this is, or seen this yourself?

TIA

Thanks for the help! If it helps these are active/active clusters. The
Active Directory shows the virtual server name for the user, but the 5.5
directory shows the actual server name as the home MDB and home MTA for
the
mailbox instead of the virtual server name.

I have heard of this before. It is a name resolution issue. I am
having trouble finding documentation. Still looking...

TIA

Mike
