I suppose you could put a icon on the desktop to go to URL but since it isn't an application but rather a web application and it is host/ip dependent it's more hassle and more likely to break things than to enable them. Although there are cheats and shortcuts, as soon as you do it and set it up to open on Konqueror people will be complaining that they want firebird mozilla or some other browser. IMHO it's a a conflict avoidance tactic. A bug report probably will get ignored because I don't think there is anybody really maintaining this package for Mandrake since it was moved to contrib, that is, unless you'd like to volunteer. Contrib packages are packaged by volunteers and contributed. They are not maintained by MandrakeSoft, so a bug report is useless unless there is somebody that is going to fix linuxconf to work with Mandrake. -- /g "Outside of a dog, a man's best friend is a book, inside a dog it's too dark to read" -Groucho Marx Want to buy your Pack or Services from MandrakeSoft? [expert] Linuxconf-Web PNGs Missing
We are running Mandrake 8.0 with the stock Linuxconf that comes with it. For some reason the Help.PNG, Accept.PNG etc are missing. From our research the gdlib creates these on the fly. Is this a bug in Mandrake? We have reinstalled Linuxconf and installed all the RPMs for GD we can find. Does any one else have this problem? It seems to be in Mandrake 7.2 as well. Has anyone noticed disk quotas do not function right on Mandrake 8.0? We are on quota-3.0.1. What is needed to get quota-1.70 to work on 2.4.3 Kernel? Are there patches needed? I haven't had problems with linuxconf because I haven't been using it - because I dislike the ncurses interface. What ever happened to the gtk-based interface? I used to do "linuxconf" and get the nice gui but now all I get is the ugly (doesn't display well at all for some reason) text-based interface. [expert] linuxconf in X
Usually when I'm in X and start the command "linuxconf" I get the X version of the program. However, today I did an install, and when I try it on this machine I just get the character-based version of the program appearing in the terminal window. Also, when I try to run it from Drakconf, it just doesn't run. I must have made a wrong turn somewhere during the install, but I can't remember where. Is there an easy way to get it to work without going through the whole install again? Thanks, Bruce Endries Bruce Endries Consulting (607) 433-2677 [EMAIL PROTECTED]

[expert] Linuxconf bug found I think..
Hi all, I think I have found a bug in linuxconf under the ppp settings screen when you select all the options, it puts everything in inverted commas (in ifcfg-ppp0),, which my server seems to reject.. I go in and delete the inverted commas, and then it works,, why is that? my system WAS a standard 7.2 but all the problems with little things now means that many of the packages are not the standard versions now... which makes it much harder to figure out what goes wrong. oh well, it seems to be working now, just got to find out if it will redial up on disconnect now.. thanks for all your help guys, I have nearly given up on Linuxconf,, I didn't like it in the first place, but theoretically it is a good idea to save time... many thanks again. umm, thanks,, but I know what you mean and it isn;t the problem I am having (although if you can't get to the buttons in ZX, you can hold down ALT and drag the window up till the buttons are visable),, I am not using X, I am using console linuxconf over ssh,, I just want to know how to get to the dismiss/accept button as it can't be tabbed to and none of the usual, alt, ctrl combos work to do it.. any ideas? I checked the update listing and there's only a .1 upgrade available for Linuxconf. Is that little of a change a needed update? What is the update for anyhow? Look on http://www.linux-manrake.com/en/updates for their security update key. Install that one in gpg and see what rpm -K gives you for the linuxconf rpms. I got the linuxconf files from sunsite, so if you got them from there, they should be ok. Tom Berkley "Ralph F. Re: [expert] Linuxconf update
You need to get the key file off your cd or download from a trusted site and gpg --import keyfilename while logged in as the user who is going to do rpm -K. I have both root and my username set up with the imported key. Then you will get a gpg ok. Also look at mandrake updates web page for a pointer to their security key for the updates. This is very strange, I have tried three times with Mandrakeupdate from three different sites, now with K bear and a different site all with the same results. Could this be a problem with my GPG install even though seems to be working with K-Mail the same as it has from the start. Re: [expert] Linuxconf update
No. I downloaded the linuxconf rpm's (from sunsite mirror) and checked them with rpm -K and they checked OK. Install went fine too. However, I only use update to tell me if there are updates, then I go get them, ftp them into my updates directory, check them with -K, and install them after ogling (rpm -qipl). That process worked fine for me. Tom Berkley "Ralph F. De Witt" wrote: > > Hi all: > Has any one had problems with the new Linuxconf update. [expert] Linuxconf Problem
This is a problem with Linuxconf on Mandrake 6.1, so with any luck it has already been repaired. I installed the dhcp server on my system, and everything appeard to run fine. Then I found myself rebooting from time to time, and noticed that, while the Sys V startup sequence said dhcpd started sucessfully, it was DOA after I had booted. H So I checked in /var/log/messages, and found out that linuxconf was shutting it down so that it could start it up with its own, incorrect, configuration. Which, of course, failed. I never did like Linuxconf, as it seems to have been written by a bunch of Redmondians with a "we're from Linuxconf and we know more about what you are doing than you do". Linuxconf appears to Windoz-ize my computer, i.e. take it over and do strange things I didn't want it to do. OK, fine, I found the place in Linuxconf where apparently you can diable Linuxconf's control over dhcpd, and tried do disable it. No go, Linuxconf was still killing off a sucessfully running daemon. So I said, screw it, and took Linuxconf out of my Sys V init, for all run levels. Now dhcpd starts at, and continues to run, after boot. Anyway, the Mandrake gurus might want to check to see if Linuxconf still has this bug, and if so report it to the authors of Linuxconf. I've never liked Linuxconf, and will probably kill it off and put webmin on or continue to administer my system the old fashioned way, with emacs and kill. -- -- C^2 No windows were crashed in the making of this email. I configured the permissions on the duplicate /var/spool/mqueue and /usr/sbin/pppd entries to match. No more complaints from linuxconf. Also, regarding restarting gpm at linuxconf exit, I noticed that /etc/rc.d/init.d/gpm said "pidfile: /var/run/gpmpid" but the actual file was /var/run/gpm.pid. I changed the line to read "pidfile: /var/run/gpm.pid" and linuxconf stopped trying to restart gpm whenever I tried to exit. Eric -- Eric Rahmig [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Lynx wants a /tmp directory in your Home directory. It´s because of security. Normal /tmp is world-readable and no good place to store mail or other sensible data. [expert] linuxconf says system not in sync
Hi all, Has anyone noticed any of the following after doing a fresh install of Mandrake 6.0? 1. When quitting linuxconf, it complains that the system is not in sync. It wants to change ownership of /var/spool/mqueue to root.mail, it wants to change /usr/sbin/pppd to mode 755, and it wants to restart gpm. I noticed duplicate entries in "Control" -> "Control files and systems" -> "Configure file permissions and ownership" for /var/spool/mqueue and for /usr/sbin/pppd, each with different settings. In /usr/lib/linuxconf/redhat/perm there are "extra" files, mail.mdkconf and ppp.mdkconf. Are these supposed to be there? Are they causing the duplicate entries? 2. I'm unable to run lynx, either as root or as an ordinary user. [root@localhost ~]# lynx produces the following: metamail: Can't open temporary file! Does anyone have any ideas about how to fix this? Thanks, Eric -- Eric Rahmig [EMAIL PROTECTED]
[expert] Linuxconf 1.15 and firewalling
Please help me before I go mad! I'm trying to set up a firewall using Mandrake 6.0 (Venus). I can reach the internet when I'm working on the firewall. The IP has been obtained through DHCP. I started linuxconf and enabled Linuxconf network access for a machine with IP 10.0.0.2. The internal card of the firewall has address 10.0.0.1. This works fine and gives me the advantage I don't have to run from one computer to the other for testing. Then I went into Control files and systems, Configure Linuxconf modules and added firewall rules configuration. default init runlevel configuration and motd - Message Of The Day configuration are the only other checked items. Through the Control panel I restarted linuxconf. Then I started configuring Routing and gateways. Under Set Defaults I enabled Routing. I don't know what to fill in for the default gateway though. On the client machine I would enter 10.0.0.1, but this is the firewall. I tried with my external IP-address to no avail. I also changed the last byte to 0 and to 255. Then I tried with 127.0.0.1 and with leaving the field empty. Always activating the configuration and seeing if I could ping out. This was after I enabled forwarding rules in Firewalling defaults (packet filtering). The rule I set was: Forward firewalling This rule is active: checked Rule's policy: Accept Do masquerading: checked Protocol: all >From Host or Network: 10.0.0.0 Netmask: 255.255.255.0 Port range: empty Other ports: empty Interface: Any To Host or Network: 0.0.0.0 Netmask: again I don't know what to fill in here, so I tried with nothing, class A, class B and Class C netmasks Port range: empty Other ports: empty Interface: any The only firewall rules that are active are the forwarding rules. >From the internal workstation I can ping myself: 10.0.0.2, the firewall 10.0.0.1 and the outside card on the address administered by the DHCP server. I can't ping the name servers nor any other host on the subnet. Does anybody have a clue why I can't seem to get this to work. Many thanks in advance, Jo

[expert] Linuxconf+Harddrive+Netscape4.61
I just did an install of Mandrake 6.0 and there are three things I can't resolve: 1. I used linuxconf in Redhat 6.0 to dial out with my external isdn modem (ifup & ifdown) but in Mandrake linuxconf seems to connect but doesn't create the new route. I check make "default route" in the ppp configuration but it still does not resolve the problem. I have to use kppp to dial out. 2. My Harddrive access light stays lit but I don't hear the heads moving. I did a reinstall thinking this was autofs working it's magic but I still get the harddrive light that stays on. Should I be worried! 3. Are there any issues between Mandrake 6.0 and Netscape 4.61..Whenever I try to access my email through an Outlook Web Access page Netscape just quits. I'll get to the page and type in my login info (username&passwaord) but once I hit enter, Netscape just quits. Thanks in advance! Andrew
[expert] Linuxconf stooped working after kernel 2.2.3
Hi, I just found out that my linuxconf opens fine but when I click on anything it does not display it on the right hand side anymore and does not complain about anything. It does work if I am not in the xwindows. It just does not work when I have kde up and running. Any ideas where to look or what to look for as to the reason it has stopped working? Thanks Bob
