Well, (i) indicates incomplete installation. Maybe, you'll need to
reinstall all kde-related packages?

Errors like this indicate that you have kdebase3-ssl installed. Check it
out with fink list or FinkCommander on Finder.

The errors in this thread come from the fact that there are two flavors
of kdebase3 and of kdelibs3, with or without ssl. They are incompatible.
You all seem to have the ssl flavor installed and are now trying to
install the packages without ssl.

Why this is so, I don't know. Did you just fink update-all?

If you really want to do this switch, you have at least to fink remove
bundle-kde-ssl and then probably dpkg -r --force-depends
kdelibs3-shlibs-ssl and some others.

If you don't want to switch, fink install kdelibs3-shlibs-ssl or fink

koffice-common needs one of kdebase3-ssl or kdebase3. Since you try to
remove kdebase3-ssl, dpkg looks if the other one is perhaps installed
(which is not a sign of superior intelligence, because these two
packages are conflicting and therefore only one of them can be installed
at a time, but dpkg doesn't know this at this point.

This isn't the case, so it refuses to remove kdebase3-ssl.

If you really want to remove it (are you sure of this?), you need to use
force:

sudo dpkg -r --force-depends kdebase3-ssl.

Then there must be some bug where something you are upgrading depends on
kdelibs3 and not on the coice of kdelibs3|kdelibs3-ssl.

Until this bug is found, you should be able to proceed using not fink
update-all, but first fink install bundle-kde-ssl. This should update
the kdelibs3-*-ssl and kdebase3-*-ssl packages. Then a later update-all

No, quite the opposite. The removal of this could perhaps have had
caused the bug we are talking about (kde*-ssl packages installed, but
update-all wants to install non-ssl packages). Must be something else, then.

In fact, I have seen it, too. You have to fink remove
kde-icons-crystal. I think it doesn't exist any more, its contents
are now included in the kdelibs3 package. Fink is not intelligent
enough to understand this situation.

There seems to be a chain of dependencies there: kdeartwork3 depends on
kde-icons-crystal, and kde-bundle-ssl in turn depends on kdeartwork3.
Trying to remove kde-icons produced many messages like the following,
which looks like a separate fault:

dpkg - warning: while removing kde-icons-crystal, directory
`/sw/share/icons/Crystal/64x64/mimetypes' not empty so not removed.

There will probably be other cases like this further on.

That wouldn't surprise me at all. Perhaps it's best to leave it for now.

kde-icons-crystal, and kde-bundle-ssl in turn depends on kdeartwork3.

The new kdeartwork3 does not depend on kde-icons-crystal any more.
Therefore it is safe to remove the latter.

Trying to remove kde-icons produced many messages like the following,
which looks like a separate fault:

dpkg - warning: while removing kde-icons-crystal, directory

This is only a warning. Nothing to worry about.

The problem is that the bugs will not be fixed without user feedback.
For Benjamin Reed and the other kde package porters, things must have
worked, otherwise they wouldn't have put them up on cvs. But their
environment is different, having played with intermediate versions. And
they won't have tried every possible combination of packages. So it is
important (although time-consuming and sometimes annoying) to try and
provide feedback.

Na ja, man tut, was man kann. :-)

it's trying to make kdebase-3.1rc5 at the moment. We'll see how far it

It looks like for the new xfree86, everything that uses -lXft now

There is a problem with your internet connection. Maybe you are better
off going completely offline during the compilation of libwww-pm?

Anyway, this is a strange package. The output of a compilation should
not depend on whether your network connection is working.

For now, it's not supported -- qt will definitely not build against it.

Aha! You're building against an xfree86 4.3 snapshot.

I haven't yet updated qt3 to play nice with it. You can temporarily
work around it by editing the qt info file and adding -lfontconfig on
the configure line after the -I's.

I've got to dig through their configure script and come up with a more
elegant solution before I support xfree86 snap's officially.

[Fink-users] KDE bundle 3.1-3

2003-01-04 Thread Mark Prazoff
Title: KDE bundle 3.1-3

I removed my old KDE (with ssl) via sudo apt-get remove arts I was then able to successfully install bundle-kde 3.1-3. (non ssl version). I do not see a version of bundle-kde ssl other than 3.0.7-5. Nothing is listed under unstable for that package under Fink Commander.

So far KDE 3.1-3 looks great. It sees CUPS, has Palm sync available, (havent tested either yet) and does not seem subject to some of the problems I had with version 3.0.7-5, including difficulty launching help, and crashes if I tried to look at system configuration. Thank you all for your hard work and support. Somewhere there is a Open Source Heaven, where Bill Gates gets to shovel coal...

Not sure about that one -- bundle-kde-ssl is definitely in unstable.
Perhaps your index is confused? Try 'fink selfupdate-cvs; fink index'
and see if it cleans itself up.

Yeah, the CUPS stuff is working great. I don't think I'm really set up
to test palm sync, but it uses pilot-tools, so it should, in theory,
work.  =)

[Fink-users] xmms can't open audio

2003-01-04 Thread Kosmos
I am running OSX 10.2.3 on a 17in iMac. Fink install is good. Other
programs run fine under X11.

Just installed xmms using Fink. Install went fine. However, when I try
to play a file, I get a couple of error messages, and no audio.

The errors are:

Couldn't open audio. Please check that 1. You have the correct output
plugin selected 2. No other programs is blocking the soundcard 3. Your
soundcard is configured properly

Error. You cannot use the Disk Writer plugin when you're running in
realtime mode.

BTW, before I upgraded to 10.2.3 I had a working xmms. When I upgraded,
I removed my /sw and reinstalled Fink from scratch.

Any ideas how to fix this?

Thanks,

This is a typical problem with Tk-Python version mismatch. What is the
version of your Tk? If it's 8.4.1, not 8.4.3, and if you built your
Pythong package when you were on 8.4.3, which I assume is true, you'll
need to rebuild python package with fink rebuild python and install
it again.

The reason is that a Python module (for GUI) called Tkinter isn't
properly configured for your Tk library.

Hope this helps

instead. Then, I got the same error that comes below. As for freetype2
version, my is 2.0.9-1. I'm using Dec 02 Dev Tools on 10.2.3.

Thanks

Right, the -3 package fixes this problem. This was a different bug
than the one that was happening before. That's fixed now, along with
the problems building against xfree86 cvs snapshots.

I've got to dig through their configure script and come up with a more
elegant solution before I support xfree86 snap's officially.

I just compiled your experimental qt3-3.1.1-3 on both machines, the one
with xfree86-4.2.1.1-4 that had the freetype problem before, and the one
with xfree86.4.2.99.cvs that had the libfontconfig problem. It compiled
on both of them correctly. Thanks.

[Fink-users] what is this other dlcompat and should we avoid it?

2003-01-04 Thread lenny bruce
there's a guy giving questionable MLDonkey advice
http://homepage.mac.com/michelmoreau/

I was wondering about this dlcompat he recommends we install to use
MLDonkey
as every other piece of advice this guy was giving turned out to be
wrong

it's called DLCompat-20020913-10.2.pkg

is this useful? counterproductive? damaging? irrelevant? or what?

should I remove it? how do I remove it?

Welcome.txt

This Version ignores the Fink /sw/ hierarchy and only supports
/usr/ hierarchy used in other Unix-like operation systems.

dlcompat for Darwin Mac OSX 10.2
=
dlcompat provides the dlopen() interface for dynamic loading of
modules for applications that need it. It was written by
Jorge Acereda.

About dlcompat for Darwin Mac OSX 10.2 (modified by Chris Roberts)
=
This is dlcompat, a small library that emulates the dlopen()
interface on top of Darwin's dyld API.

Unlike finks older dlcompat, this dlcompat allows loading a .dylib
library (as long as the RTLD_LOCAL flag isn't passed to dlopen()). It
can
be configured to yield a warning when trying to close it (dynamic
libraries cannot be unloaded).

It automatically searches for modules in several directories (taken
from the environment variables DYLD_LIBRARY_PATH and LD_LIBRARY_PATH,
plus /usr/lib and /lib) when no absolute path is specified and the
module is not found in the current directory.

Installation files
--

Shared library called libdl placed into /usr/local/lib.
The header file dlfcn.h will be placed in /usr/local/include.
A Jaguar (OSX 10.2) Compliant dyld library will be installed in
/usr/lib/.

Usage
---
Software that uses GNU autoconf will likely check for a library called
libdl, that's why I named it that way. For software that doesn't find
the library on its own, you must add a '-ldl' to the appropriate
Makefile (or environment) variable, usually LIBS.

If you installed dlcompat into a directory other than /usr/local/lib,
you must tell the compiler where to find it. Add '-Lprefix/lib' to
LDFLAGS (or CFLAGS) and '-Iprefix/include' to CPPFLAGS (or CFLAGS).

[Fink-users] arts-1.0.2-2 failure
