federico, before you remove fink and start all over (a bit radical!) make sure you start by removing the old x11. X11 used to be in /Applications/ , now it is in /Applications/Utilities. So remove /Applications/X11 to start with. Then it might be that you did not install the Developer tools part of the X11 package, so check again your installation (look at the customize options for disks 3 or 4, can't remember which). Fed rm -fr /sw and start over :-) Perhaps more helpfully, delete all the old virtual packages, like system-*. They prevent the new built-in ones from kicking in. See /sw/lib/perl5/Fink/VirtPackage.pm for the list of packages you will definitely want to get rid of if you have them installed (xfree, jdk, kernel, ...). Thanks, I'm not sure what you mean by install from source. If I just download the ethereal source from ethereal.com, it fails to install due to a ton of dependancy errors. That is why I tried the Fink route. Hi Folks, I'm running Panther v10.3.2. Did a fink selfupdate this AM and it ran fine. Didn't work. Fink Install ethereal completed without any errors. I start up Apple's X11 Application and type sudo /sw/bin/ethereal And get all the same errors as before. Could this be an environmental issue? Something to do with the environment in X11? I had the same problem. Unfortunately, I had to completely remove my /sw directory and start over. Once i reinstalled fink, run fink selfupdate, then try reinstalling ethereal again. [Fink-users] No german Umlaute within gnome 2.4.1-2
Hi, as of today I did update my Xfree86 4.3.99.901 to Xfree86 4.4.0 without any troubel at first sight but a second look shows me two errors that only maybe due to false configuration. First error see first mail. Second error is that no matter what I do in .profile I get a german desktop but no Clock and Date is shown as well as no german Umlaute are shown. This worked in RC1 but not now. I used this in my .profile to get a german desktop # LANG=de_DE ; export LANG # unset LC_ALL export LANG=de_DE export LC_ALL=de_DE It is equal if I use the autcommanded version to get the german desktop or the currently active one. Mac is a Power Mac G4 Dual 1.42Ghz with Mac OS X 10.3.2 and fink Package manager version: 0.19.1 Distribution version: 0.6.2.cvs, bundle-gnome 2.4.1-2 and Xfree864.4.0-1 as of today morning. Any idea how to get a german desktop enviroment and the Umlaute back? Hi all, I just installed the latest kde 3.2.1 release with fink, but the problem is that *every* character in the kde UI is a square. Note that I get the following messages on startup: [EMAIL PROTECTED] startkde xset: bad font path element (#87), possible causes are: Directory does not exist or has wrong permissions Directory missing fonts.dir Incorrect font server address or syntax startkde: Starting up... [snip] Also note that I had installed kde/mac a few weeks ago (along my existing kde/x11 installation), but even after removing everything using the dedicated script provided by Benjamin Reed, the problem remains. [Fink-users] Tip: proxy passwords with curl
The curl that comes with OS X 10.3 appears not to support username and password in the http_proxy environment variable. That means if a user (correctly) specifies http://user:[EMAIL PROTECTED]:port when fink tries to fetch a tarball curl will report an error that implies it is using the username as the proxy-host. Curl in /usr/bin/curl is 7.10.2 and there's a note in the ChangeLog Fixed in 7.10.6: Changes: * libcurl supports name and password in proxy environment variables so I think one has to upgrade to fink's curl (7.11.0) in order to get the needed functionality. Hi, I have a new install (source) + binary added after on Mac OS X 10.3. 'gaim-ssl' is pretty much the 1st package I am installing after updating everything. There is a warning about mozilla and mozilla-dev shown below. You as a fink user can safely ignore any and all of these BuildDepends violation warnings. They are only meaningful to and fixable (and only sometimes!) by the maintainers of the package(s) noted.
