Now it looks like as if this update broke epiphany here on my Mac. I started Epiphany out of the Applicationsmenu and nothing happend. The window showed up bud died imediately. My fink versions are: Package manager version: 0.22.1 Distribution version: 0.7.0.rsync Xfree is 4.4.0 and gnome is i bundle-gnome 2.6.0-2GNOME convenience package and nautilus is i nautilus 2.6.3-10 Next-generation GNOME 2 file manager Please let me know if there are any other informations needed. There is no error message. The difference is that I have Apple's X11 installed. So it is quite possible that this package does not build with xfree86-4.4.0. Is it supposed to work, anyway? AFAIK, the xkb stuff isn't used, neither by Apple's X11 nor by XDarwin. I donnot know if it is supposed to work anyway but for me I can say that I use Xfree86 4.4.0. Do you know which app depends on libxklavier1 as I only try to update bundle-gnome. I ran into the same problem upgrading gnome. Do you have any solution for it? Shall we open a formal bug tracker item? There was a fix for this in another thread. I donnot know if a bug has been filled out for this fix or if a new version of libxklavier1 is available that fixes the problem. If both isn't the fact, we should inform the package maintainer and/or open a bug tracker item. The solution was to do add the following line to your libxklavier1.info: I fixed it here (equivalently) with the following diff : SetCPPFLAGS: -no-cpp-precomp --- NoSetCPPFLAGS: true CompileScript: export CPATH=/usr/X11R6/include:%p/include; ./configure %c; make Best, JF After adding this line, you need to run fink index again and afterwards you should be able to update to gnome 2.6. Up to now I have the impression that gnome 2.6 is a bit faster then 2.4 was. Regards, Eric Hoch -- ## Ansprechpartner Anwenderunterstützung, users-Mailingliste ## War unsere Hilfe erfolgreich? As long as you are using cvs I think no it isn't. Just trying to save the fink project some bandwidth :-) Switch to fink selfupdate-rsync. Then you will only get the info files for the active tree or better the trees you have in your fink.conf and for the maintree which stands in it. Or is you firewall to restrictive for rsync? After a first rsync update. You only need to do a fink selfupdate in future. Fink will remember to use rsync. [Fink-users] Error during update of id3lib3.7-dev id3lib3.7-shlibs
Hi List, I think there's something wrong with the new files or the update for id3lib3.7 in fink. As you can see in the output below fink tries to update and patch the exisiting version with an update but therefore uses the patch for the already installed version. I cannot figure out which Mac OS X you are running and therefore I can only give some general hints on how to solve your problem. A short look in the fink package database on the fink website tells me that libglade2-shlibs-2.0.1-13 is avaible in the unstable tree so first guessing would be that you donnot have the unstable tree in your fink.conf. To verify this take look at fink.conf, it's in /sw/etc, there in the tree line you should find something like this unstable/main unstable/crypto telling fink to use the unstable tree. Next would be to take a look at the faq points 4.7 and 4.8 http://fink.sourceforge.net/faq/usage-fink.php#bindist. And maybe it is better to delete the info file too, cause fink fetches newer ones or missing ones during a selfupdate. BTW How did you clean up? Did you use the dpkg and fink commands or did you do it by hand with the rm command. The latter option perhaps may cause the problem since it doesn't tell fink that a package was removed as the first two do. So try to use the fink commands and see what you can rescue with them. What also may help is to use apt-get and the force option to install at least earlier versions of your packages and then rerun the fink selfupdate etc process to get the latest versions. More informations about apt-get force are found here http://fink.sourceforge.net/faq/comp-general.php#also_in Regards, Eric Hoch -- ## Ansprechpartner Anwenderunterstützung, users-Mailingliste ## War unsere Hilfe erfolgreich? Re: [Fink-users] HDF library for OS X Panther - how?
Hi Tero, On Wed, 14 Jan 2004 14:02:41 +0200, Tero Siili wrote: Incidently, HDF 4.2r0 seems to be available on the HDF pages directly for the OS X, so this may be resolved thus, without fink. But, help may still be needed... Here take a look at my hdf installation tutorial. I helped another user of the fink lists to get hdf installed and so it hopefully works for you too. You may not need every description but this instruction was for a newbie and so just read over these parts. Since all roads lead to Rome you have a lot of possibilities to get the 10.2-gcc 3.3 in this file or to get at least hdf. If you have done this type sudo apt-get dist-upgrade. This will install the latest avaible version of fink and all the other packages which are currently installed. Once this is done do again a sudo apt-get update. Fink now gets the latest package descriptions which are avaible for the new version that you installed in the prior step. Now a sudo apt-get install hdf should do what you want. Get the hdf package and all the packages it depends on. Say yes when fink asks you that it will install hdf and other packages in order to fullfill depencies. Depending on how fast your interneconnection is and which packages are needed etc every step can last from a couple of minutes up to a couple of hours. If this way fails you have another one which I would prefer cause is more accurate imho but has high claims and is the hardcore way of doing it. At first you will understand nothing but after that you surely will have a little idea about the power of mac os x, fink and unixes in general. Once you learned it the hard way and everything is configured nothing more then a few commands are needed to be up-to-date and this is really cool. So here it is the hardcore way of getting hdf. So did you ever do a fink selfupdate after installing fink or your fink untouched since installing it. But first edit your fink.conf file and add the unstable trees to it. This procedure is descriped in the FAQ much better then I could do it so go and read it here http://fink.sourceforge.net/faq/usage-fink.php#bindist Questions 4.7 and 4.8 are the interesting ones for you. What is not mentioned in the faq is that fink.conf can only be editet if you are root so you need to type sudo vi (or any other editor) fink.conf instead of vi fink.conf. Check if your Distribution line in fink.conf looks like mine: Distribution: 10.3 Leave every other line as is. If you had to edit your fink.conf you have to run a fink selfupdate followed by a fink index. Now it is time to check if hdf is avaible and it should be! So type a fink list hdf and see what the output ist. It should look similar to mine: Maveric:~ erichoch$ fink list hdf Information about 2368 packages read in 1 seconds. hdf 4.1r5-13 Scientific data format hdf5 1.6.1-1 Library and file format for scientific data hdf5-bin 1.6.1-1 Library and file format for scientific data hdf5-shlibs 1.6.1-1 Library and file format for scientific data This output tells you that the version you want it called hdf and that a simple fink install hdf will do the job. So type fink install hdf and fink will download the sourcepackage from a mirror and after that unpackt the archive. Patch it if necessary and then compile and install it. I cannot say how long this will take since it depends on too much factors like your bandwith for downloads, the speed of your processor, package size of the sourcecode etc. Regards, Eric Hoch -- ## Ansprechpartner Anwenderunterstützung, users-Mailingliste ## War unsere Hilfe erfolgreich? [Fink-users] Another problem with gstreamer
Hi List, after three days at my parents I did a fink selfupdate followed by a fink update-all. Everything worked fine until the point where gstream was to be installed. No you needn't remove the deb files and to delete all the xfree packages via fink take a look at points 8.11 and 8.12 in the faq http://fink.sourceforge.net/faq/usage-packages.php#apple-x11-wants-xfree86. This should do the trick. You can safely do this while the other packages depending on xfree are on your machine. If you donnot build a package during removing and new building of xfree that depends on it the shouldn't care if currently a x is installed or not. To be absolutely sure that no X is on your machine you can after the fink commands to these ones: sudo rm -rf /etc/X11/ [Enter] sudo rm -rf /usr/X11R6/ [Enter] sudo rm -rf /Applications/XDarwin(or X11).app [Enter] If you get errors saying this files aren't on your Mac then fink did remove them already. After this do a fink selfupdate to be absolutely sure to have the latest xfree86 package descreption and afterwards do a fink install xfree(86) and the work should be done. Or if you donnot have gconf2 a type fink install gconf2. Since today gnome2.4 is in unstable and therefore you need gconf2 if the new packages depend on gnome2 libraries. Actually, I don't need much of gnome but only to take care of some dependencies to other apps. Normaly if you get these packages via fink, the job of taking care of some depencies is done by fink and with small errors works fine for me. Before installing bundle-gnome I only had a few gnome packages on the machine and they were all the ones I needed. More difficult is if you want to build programs which are not available via fink and need packages out of gnome as depencies but here the list only can help if you give more details. [Fink-users] Possibel errror message during gnome2.4 start-up process
Hi List, according to Martin Costabel it would be better to post possible gnome2.4 errors here instead of the fink-beginners list. O.K. here maybe one. Sorry if this possibel error already has been reported here on the list but I found no possibility to search the archives of fink-users and I got through the last two months and found nothing similar. Can somebody send me a link if a search page for the fink mailinglists is avaible? I installed gnome2.4 out of the experimental tree and it took a few hours and a few depencies to be solved but in the end it compiled and I can run it but on start-up after the initialisation of the gnome desktop an error message appears saying this: --- Beginn errror message --- The panel encountered a problem while loading OAFIID:GNOME_MixerApplet Details: Failed to activate 'OAFIID:GNOME_MixerApplet' Do you want to delete the applet from your configuration? --- End of error message --- I can choose to delete or not to and up to now I decided that I donnot want to delete since I am not quite sure what happens if I do so or if this error can be solved. Need I to recompile a package or what can I do to solve the problem. A google search brings up solutions for SuSE but these didn't help here on Darwin. May this also be the reason for not hearing any sound? The gnome-audio package 1.4.0-3 is installed.
