Delayed messages
This message is from: "Frederick J Pack" Steve, if this gets delayed via Mongolia again, please post for me on your list.. Apparently my mail server that I go through (when sending a message) doesn't like angus.mystery.com very well and is delaying my messages to Steve's list. The system that Steve uses, angus.mystery.com is on my systems (Hughes.net) grey list and the automatic programs have to verify a lot of stuff before it is released. The system that I use, Hughes.net sometimes gets put on other systems bad list (grey list, black list) too. I can remember when Yahoo and AOL would not forward messages to the other. My last message, to Steve's list, was delayed by the system quite a while.. Steve and I have been going through the technicalities of the messages trying to figure out why the delays. There IS NO CENSORSHIP or moderation of my messages on Steve's part.PERIOD. Fred FjordIssues list owner.. This message is from: "Frederick J Pack" This comment was made by our former trainer: . Number one this mare was not breed illegally nor behind anyone's back. Both parties involved had an agreement before the mare was ever bred and yes I was promised the foal .. We, Lois and I would be willing to take a lie detector test to attest to the fact that this is not completely true. She was denied permission to breed our mare to her stallionTWICE .. PERIOD. I have outlined why we reneged on the promise to let her have the foal. We didn't want a foal from her sire until big problems (and great expense) occurred with recovery of our horses. We had planned to breed her the following year to a Canadian stallion. In our former trainer's own words.. the mare Joline was owned by us. Written to Mike May BEFORE our settlement and after the foal was born. If there was any agreement, why was it not presented in mediation? Ownership of the foal was never discussed. Why? Because the owner of the mare owns the mare's offspring. The fact that she wanted the mare for herself does not make it fact. Tis not us who needs forgiveness! Our dispute with her is OVER settled. I did not break the disparagement clause first. SHE did. "Mr. Pack is under court order to not talk about me as he has a way of distorting the facts and lashing out. He did not pay his bills. So please keep this off the list as it is nobodys [SIC] business." May 16, 2011. I had let her remain on MY list until them. There is NO court order. It is part of the agreement. Settlement was April 19, 2011 I have done my best to just present facts without disparagement or even naming her or her business. We have honored the agreement. Someone else even tried to claim our foal and register her herself... I wonder who? Lois trusted her and tried to give her every chance and benefit of the doubt. . Our big mistake. The truth lies not in fantasy, but fact. Playing the victim in this case won't work. This is the last I will ever say of the PRIOR dispute between us, but I will not allow a fantasy to stand as fact. My beef is with the registry, not with our former trainer. I hope this doesn't take 11 hours to clear Steve's filters. All Mail is scanned in AND out by Norton Anti-virus. Missing messages...technical stuff but good information
This message is from: "Frederick J Pack" Steve and I have been sending (back and forth) some technical data regarding messages. At least two messages were lost somewhere in cyberspace. We took apart the message sent by Curtis. The tech data shows it WAS sent to this list as well as mine. For some unknown reason, I never got it nor has it shown up in the archives. Messages are sent to the archive server automatically and for another unknown reason, it is not there. We were unable to determine what happened to Ellen's message... it just got lost. It could be her iPad somehow. Her messages to my list come through OK. Some prior posts have noted similar non-postings of sent messages. No server, or system is fail-safe. There was NO censorship. It was a poor choice of words. You may note that my last message that appeared on this list took over 24hours from sent to posting. Steve took that message apart to try and figure out what took so long. End result, we don't know, but we tried. Hats off to Steve for trying to resolve the situation... This message is from: "Frederick J Pack" Where is Ellen's original message to this fjordhorse list? It is not in the archives either. Where is Curtis' reply on this list? It is also NOT in the archives. The only message in the archives is this reply from Ruth Bushnell with a subject of "registries and Strange symbols". Also searched by date yields no results. READ THE LAST PARAGRAPH..Sent to me by our vet to get important word out..
This message is from: "Frederick J Pack" (Fred's note: We are located in what is called the Enumclaw Plateau, SE of Seattle and W of Tacoma in the Cascade Mountain foothills) This is from ACVIM, the guru's guru when it comes to horse diseases (American College Veterinary Internal Medicine) Our local vet supply is sold out of rhino vaccine and its the worst thing you can do: READ THE LAST PARAGRAPH I am currently treating a horse from Ogden with neuro signs. I have consulted with several of my ACVIM colleagues, including Maureen Long at Florida State (who has probably treated as many of these cases as anyone), and have followed all the discussion on the ACVIM list serve. Here is my answer to your question: Following exposure to a horse with confirmed neuropathogenic EHV-1 by nasal swab PCR (whether that horse is simply febrile or febrile/neurologic, all horses should be temp'd 2x daily for 14 days. If such an exposed horse develops a fever, then NSAID treatment should be initiated immediately (500 mg flunixin BID) and the horse should have a nasal swab obtained. If the owner can afford it, I would recommend initiation of anti-viral therapy at that time. The recommended regimen now is 30 mg/kg Valacyclovir TID x 3 days. At the end of 3 days, if the horse is afebrile, then reduce to 20 mg/kg BID x 10 days. The cost for the entire regiment will be in the area of $2500 - the best price I have found is at Wall Mart pharmacy. Alternatively, the horse can be monitored and maintained on NSAID's. If neurologic signs develop, then anti-viral treatment can be initiated at that time. Most of the horses in the current EHV-1 incident are developing fevers and NOT going on to develop neurologic signs. There are ACVIM diplomates who would argue that the valacyclovir in febrile/non-neurologic horses is not indicated as there is no way to predict which febrile horses will go on to develop EHVM (clinical signs of CNS involvement). In my mind, and based on all that I have read, there is no down side (other than cost) of initiating valacyclovir at the onset of fever, and several clinicians report that early intervention with anti-virals leads to better outcomes. Having watched enough horses over the years succumb to fatal EHVM, I am hard pressed not to initiate potentially helpful therapy early in the course of disease. Bottom line: treatment of horses infected with neuropathogenic EHV-1 is in large part empirical, there simply have not been enough cases with uniform treatment to make hard and fast recommendations. In my opinion, under no circumstances should horses potentially exposed to neuropathogenic EHV-1 be vaccinated or recieve immunostimulants. EHV-1 update
This message is from: "Frederick J Pack" Thanks Ray for the posting to my list. In the interest of getting the word out ASAP, I am cross-posting this to Steve's list. All Mail is scanned in AND out by Norton Anti-virus. Fred and Lois Pack Pack's Peak Stables Wilkeson, Washington 98396 On Behalf Of Ray Keller Sent: Tuesday, May 17, 2011 5:00 PM Subject: EHV-1 update >From the Arizona Back Country Riders web site (azbcr.com) Newst update... The information below was provided to us directly, by each state veterinarians office. Although there is considerable speculation about additional cases in some states, it does take time to confirm positive reports before anything can be announced in an official capacity. The following notices will only be updated as we continue to receive e-mails from state veterinarian offices. California- The CA Dept. of AG was able to confirm that as of 9 am. this morning they have ten positive horses. Information to date suggests they were all at the Utah event. Colorado- Two confirmed cases of EHV-1 in two Colorado horses, that competed at the NCHA Western Nationals in Ogden, Utah. Further investigation is underway. Six additional horses exposed are showing clinical signs of EHV-1. Horses in four counties (Boulder, Larimer, Mesa and Weld) are under hold/quarantine orders and being investigated for disease. Colorado State Universitys Veterinary Teaching Hospital is now restricting non-emergency equine and camelid patients as a precaution to prevent exposing the facility to EHV-1. Connecticut- No exposed or diseased horses have been traced to Connecticut at this time. Delaware- No horses from Delaware have been exposed at this time. Florida- No exposed or diseased horses have been traced to Florida at this time. Georgia- There are no known exposed or positive animals in Georgia. Idaho- In Idaho, two horses that were in attendance at the Ogden, Utah event have died. Five other horses are currently under veterinary care. Laboratory confirmation of EHV-1 is pending. At least 26 Idaho horses were entered in the event. Illinois- Illinois had two owners and two horses participate at the Utah event. One horse returned to Illinois on 5/8. It is under current observation and is clinically normal. The second horse is currently stabled out of state, is under current observation, and is clinically normal. Kentucky- Information/recommendations we are making available to the public can be found on our web page at www.kyagr.com/statevet/equine/index.htm. Kentucky has no horses reported to be exposed to the outbreak. Louisiana- Louisiana had one owner with three horses that attended the Western Nationals. All horses are isolated and under a veterinarians observation since Saturday, May 14. There are asymptomatic as of now. Maine- The state of Maine did not have any horses that attended the Utah event. Maryland- Maryland does not have any horses listed as having attended the Utah event. There are no EHV-1 investigations, links or events in Maryland at this time. Michigan- There are no known exposed horses in Michigan. Missouri- Missouri only had one horse that attended the Utah event. It is now isolated and is being temped twice a day.- Taylor Woods, Missouri State Veterinarian Montana- Sixteen horse owners and 30-35 horses from Montana attended the Utah event, but no cases of the disease have been reported in the state, per a Montana Dept. of Livestock press release. Nebraska- We have five owners and five horses involved. All quarantined as of 10:30 am CST today. No symptoms yet and temping twice a day. Two of them exhibited at a local cutting show in Kearney, Nebraska, four days after attending Utah event. Nevada- Thirteen horses attended the NCHA Western National Championship. Nevada has provided information to all owners that attended the Utah event and advised them to monitor horse temperatures and to practice quality bio-security measures. We have not detected the disease within our state, yet. No additional movement requirements have been established due to the current situation. New Jersey- A horse farm in Colts Neck, Monmouth County was quarantined after six horses contracted EHV-1 in early April, before the Utah event. The quarantined has since been lifted. New York- At this time there are no known exposed horses in New York. We advise all animal owners to be extremely cautious when returning from fairs and other competitions. Returning livestock should always be isolated from the rest of the herd for three weeks whenever possible.- David Smith- NYS Dept. of Agriculture and Markets North Carolina- No horses from North Carolina have been exposed at this time according to a call from COSDA this afternoon. North Dakota- North Dakota has two horses listed that attended the Utah event, but they are both under the same owners name. The owner has been contacted and we are in the process of estab

This message is from: "Frederick J Pack" Important Announcement about Equine Herpes The Washington State University Veterinary Teaching Hospital is entering a period of voluntary isolation for equine and camelid patients. This is in response to a patient that was confirmed to be shedding Equine Herpes Virus type 1 (EHV-1). In the past week there have been 2 confirmed cases of EHV-1 in Colorado in horses that competed at the National Cutting Horse Association Western National Championships in Ogden, Utah. A horse admitted to the Washington State University Veterinary Teaching Hospital for evaluation of unrelated problems was found to have competed at the show. Subsequent diagnostic testing confirmed that the horse was positive for EHV-1. Due to the potential for spread of the virus, access to the VTH is currently restricted. During this time, no new equine or camelid patients may be admitted to the hospital except for critical emergencies. It is expected that the period of isolation will last at least 2 weeks. There are currently no horses exhibiting signs of EHV-1 at WSU.Equine Herpes Virus does not affect cattle, sheep, goats, pigs or birds, and the remainder of the VTH remains open. There is no risk of transmission to people. Source: http://www.vetmed.wsu.edu/depts-vth/announcements/index.aspx All Mail is scanned in AND out by Norton Anti-virus. Posted for Jen Frame
This message is from: "Frederick J Pack" Hello Fred, it's Jen Frame here, hoping to prevail upon your generosity! yesterday evening I had the extreme good fortune of meeting Bernice Ende, the Lady Long Rider, as she journeyed from Wimberly Texas towards Llano Texas. You may remember that a few years ago she got a lame Fjord named Essie Pearl, to be her pack horse on her Long Riding journeys. Bernice healed the abscesses in Essie's feet, and Essie has become a much beloved (and totally sound!) companion to Bernice. In a tragic accident a few weeks ago, Bernice's riding horse Honor was killed. Now Bernice is making the journey from Texas to Minnesota and then on to Montana with only one horse: her Fjord Essie Pearl. This makes the going sow, and Bernice ends up having to walk most of the way. She is very much wanting another Fjord. Her wish is to be given a tall gelding by some generous Fjord breeder who realizes the wonderful potential for publicity both about the Fjord breed in general, and that breeder's particular breeding business also. Everywhere Bernice and Essie Pearl go, people stop and are amazed by Essie. They want to know what kind she is, where Bernice got her, etc. Bernice prefers riding smoother horses like her beloved Honor who just died, but realizes the WOW factor that a pair of Fjords would give all the people who she meets. I feel incredibly blessed to have met Bernice. She inspires people to give. When I knew where she would be, I took great joy in packing up our truck full of horse food, hay, food for her dog, food for her, and equipment to "camp" along the road with her for just an evening to bask in her delightful inspirational personality. Bernice is a Fjord carried ambassador of love and integrity. I hope that as a group, the Fjord owners of America can gather their energy and good will to find Bernice the second Fjord that she wants. Ideally, this Fjord would be in Texas, or close to Texas, so we can somehow haul him to her easily. But I'm sure that we could find a way to haul a Fjord from far away too. We could all donate money towards this. She will be in Llano for 2 days. She has no cell phone, but can check e-mail at the library. And if we can pull this together quickly, I can drive on out to Llano and meet with her at the Fair Grounds where she will be camped, and help make arrangements with her. Please post this e-mail Fred, to your group and to the other Fjord group. I would be so grateful. If anybody needs to call me, I can be reached on my cell phone (415) 637-5157. Lets keep her inspirational journey going! She hopes to be given a Fjord that is trained to ride and drive, but will accept one that isn't. She plans to take time to train him to the ways of the road and long riding, before hitting the road with him. She is an incredible woman, and any Fjord would be lucky to join her odyssey. I fell madly in love with her Fjord Essie Pearl who is so sweet and gorgeous, and happy! Thanks so much, Jen Frame All Mail is scanned in AND out by Norton Anti-virus. My Joline (yo-LEE-na) and driver Bonnie Morris of Shadow Mountain Stables won the cones competition with the ONLY clean run. The Gamblers choice event was tied after the first round. The second half of the video is where Joline and Bonnie won the competition. They finished the requirements, during the runoff, so quickly (and CLEAN) that they were allowed to WALK the final portions Gamblers choice: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P1yfBu41b1s Cones: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TVgdoOjPBJk Shirley, Donna, Brian, Sherrie, and Lisa..we're baaack.and we won.. You have learned, well, the tactic of attacking someone else when attacked yourself. The same member that Steve removed, from this list, was removed from my list for the same reasons. That is one. Another member was removed yesterday for violating a "Cease and Desist" order. That is two. You use the singular word "list", not lists. The only other list that you can allude to is mine, the FjordIssues list. You receive the daily digest from my list. They are not bouncing. You are aware of what was posted. I will not burden readers here with any of the comments made on my list. Many owners and Fjord lovers are members of both lists. They know what went on and what was said. Why can't you be truthful? I can not willingly suspend my disbelief. Taking this opportunity to attack my list and actions in shutting down a subject that was about to get really out of hand is a diversion that won't work. Moses Lake Show...
This message is from: "Frederick J Pack" Would those of you fortunate enough to attend the Moses Lake Show please file some reports for those of us less fortunate?? A personal request
This message is from: "Frederick J Pack" We are unable to personally attend the Moses Lake Fjord show. My wife, Lois, is invalid and can not tolerate the length of time (in the car) to get there. She can not sit for very long. Our Stallion, The Showman will be evaluated. The Showman and our mare Joline will be in 15 events. Any photographs or videos of the evaluation and events my horses are in would soften the hurt of not being there in person. I thank everyone in advance.. Is there going to be a professional photographer assigned to the show too? Name? Contact information?? I would give my eye teeth to be able to come.. The care of my wife is more important. This message is from: "Frederick J Pack" Such fun. Good news about the Coggins. What a scare... I must correct you when you write: " laurie, oz and giz, the only two horses there with a Z in their names" We have a stallion out of Prydarson named "Zavtra" which is Russian means tomorrow. We kept waiting, and waiting, and waiting for him to pop out...each night saying...Maybe tomorrow. The name stuck. Another mare, Zagorska...named for the oldest monastery in Russia. We visited some good friends there. Got to see the "real" Russianot what they wanted the tourists to see. One of my mares got in with a mini stallion while in heat last month. RE: Thank-you STEVE
This message is from: "Frederick J Pack" Lisa et al, Rescue and Fjord welfare is STILL a paramount concern on my FjordIssues list. The conversations regarding Horse Slaughter were getting out of hand. I stopped that thread. Steve would have done the same thing here. Before YOU or anyone else, who is only on THIS list, the information about Mr. Stewart in Scotland had been posted on my list for some time. You know this. You are subscribed to my list. FJORD welfare has always been paramount. I personally posted many links to follow up and assist in the assessment (by readers) of the situation. But, you already know this.. Other readers, only on this list, do not. It seems devious to object to something about my list without writing something about it on mine. You have been conspicuously quiet and haven't posted anything since October of 2006. We could use some of your wisdom on my list as well. You write: Even another Fjord list, which was created and actually encouraged to discuss these tough rescue abuse and " saving Fjords in need " topics, I hear they called for an end to the conversation, while this list does not. I am puzzled by the use of the word HEAR in the above paragraph. Or are you trashing any messages from my list too. Have you bothered to READ what has been sent to you. Perhaps if you had, you would have not have written here. If you, in fact, DID...then you know why I shut the subject of horse slaughter down. I would e-mail this directly to you but you have set your email to block any messages from me directly. Don't trash my list just because you don't like me or my trainer My trainer, who was trashed by you and others at Libby, are not aware of some facts. Bonnie Morris has a heart of gold. She presently has three rescued horses at her facility right now that she saved from the knife or starvation. A couple of years ago, she bought two other horses to save them. One was nothing but a skeleton. She nursed both of these back to health. The mare that was a skeleton is now a mother. Bonnie is presently nursing one of MY Fjords back to health as I didn't have the facilities to adequately care for her. She has become an accomplished CDE competitor. Just last week she had two of my fjords hooked up to Dave McQwethy's (Sp?) cart at Happs. Dave drove and loved them too. You, and the other nay-sayers from our Libby Incident will not admit you made a mistake about her. Next time you object to something going on on MY list, write your thought there...not here. And, NO...I haven't removed you from my list just because you trashed us here. Fred (owner Yahoo FjordIssues list) and a proud to be a member of this list too... A sad day...
This message is from: "Frederick J Pack" I sadly report that our foundation mare, Susie C-48, reported to the Rainbow Bridge. She would have been 35 years old in two weeks. Her rear end would no longer support her for long and once down..she could not get up. I picked her up twice with the tractor but when she went down the last time, we had to say goodbye. Susie came to us on Christmas Day, 1997. She was carrying her final foal, Troika. Her foal, Troika, stood guard at the doorway all night out in the snow. Susie was inside one of our small barns. We had alerted the vet the night before that he probably would be needed. She crossed the "Bridge" with her head in my lap. She came to us with dignity, and left the same way. Our great lady will be sorely missed. Fred Enjoy EVERY minute with your Fjords. You may never get a second chance. All Mail is scanned in AND out by Norton Anti-virus. You must be near Whiting Field as I believe that is where the chopper training is now... I soloed at Whiting in fixed wing T-34 in 1955. I almost landed on a gator at Whiting as it was ambling across the runway. Did you happen to check around under the fence lines for any gator tracks? Funny about helicopters: When we finished building up here on the mountain and got everything electrified (horse water heaters and all), my power bill jumped dramatically. I think the DEA got wind of the big jump and came looking one night around midnight. VERY quiet, but the anti-collision strobe light lit up our bedroom. They never came back as their infra-red gear would have picked up a lot of warm horse bodies, Llama bodies and the heated horse waterers must have stood out like beacon lights. We didn't even bother getting out of bed... as it was not bothering the Fjords at all. We have CCTV and don't have to get out of bed to look around. Darn handy. Ours are hard wired systems and especially useful to watch the foaling pen too. We are really proud of your Fjords WITH you... Fred All Mail is scanned in AND out by Norton Anti-virus. This message is from: "Frederick J Pack" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Hi folks, I have posted a new video taken at the All Breed Show in Puyallup, WA. This video was taken while getting ready for the announcer's introduction to the Fjord Breed in the arena. The audio is a little difficult to hear as only one half of the stands were occupied by spectators and there is a lot of echo from the far side empty seats. However, a good background of the breed was given while Bonnie Morris and Navigator Macawlay Dukes presented my Joline in a cart. Mike Melby presented Bonnie's white stud colt, Lordalen on lead. Mrs. Dukes, Macawlay's mom, presented Bonnie's dun filly Georgina on lead. She gets grass hay AND once a day she gets a bucket of "smush". Our trainer, Bonnie Morris, taught me this trick. In a 5 gallon bucket: 6 8oz cups of Sterling pellets, 6 8oz cups of Equine Senior, 1/1/2 cups Alfalfa pellets, 1 1/2 cups of soaked Beet Pulp (No Molasses...Equine Sr. has Molasses), and 1 fluid Oz of Equine Corta Flx. Add 3 gallons of luke warm water and let stand for at least 10 minutesdo NOT stir. She cleans out the bucket well enough to almost put it back on the shelf without rinsing. She is getting fluids as well as nourishments that are easily digested. Fred All Mail is scanned in AND out by Norton Anti-virus. Upon arrive home we discovered that Skovy does not like to be alone, and had to quickly aquire another horse. Luckily there was free one one in the paper. Now our new fjord (I had get another one of course) is deffinetly a senior citizen (deffinetly over 20). It is believed that he came from the Narnia lines here in BC, the previous owner said he was a stud at one point but i doubt it. Anyways, I have had him about 5 days, and I don't know much about keeping the oldies...He is having a hard time keeping/gaining weight. He is getting a ton of food, and it may be helping (just slow). He gets senior pellets, complete pellets, beet pulp, oil, alfalfa cubes and regular 1st cut hay. Plus the occassionl graze on the lawn. I don't give him ton, as I am increasing the amounts so I don't shock his system. Now Andy (Narnia fjords Andros???aka "Grandpa") is too thin for my liking he is probably a 3 on the body rating. His pelvis protrudes, his ribs are just slightly visible and his mane won't stay up as the weight of his hair too much( it just flops over). I know this guy will probably never look like his plump former self again, but I want to make sure he is comfortable for the coming years. He has had his teeth done and was just wormed. Any suggestions on keeping the older guys would be appreciated. Thanks Kelly Trirogoff _ Enter today for your chance to win $1000 a daytoday until May 12th. RE: Kez
This message is from: "Frederick J Pack" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> I hope this helps a littlewe know what you are going through all too well Stories teach. Once upon a time (Genesis 9: 8-17), God made a promise to Noah, to all human kind, and (significantly) to all animals on the ark: never again would a flood destroy the earth. God signed that promise, placing a rainbow in the heavens. The Hebrew word qesheth, as used in this passage, has the same meanings as the English word bow: a qesheth, or bow, is an implement used to shoot deadly arrows. By extension, it is anything shaped like a bow. In times and cultures where the bow, often highly decorated, was a primary military weapon, chieftains ratified peace treaties publicly by hanging up their war bows. When God hung that gloriously colored bow in the heavens, it sealed a covenant between the Supreme Being and all earthly creatures. Eventually the oral tradition of Genesis was written down, and all who read or heard its message understood the symbol of the rainbow: so long as that bow stood in the heavens, there would be an effective treaty between God and earth. Whenever a rainbow appears, we see tangible evidence, an arched bridge between earth and heaven, of a divine promise. It is a path between known and unknown, between finite and infinite, between storm and sunshine. Gods brilliant, beautiful, celestial signature confirms unending, individual concern for all creatures. Its ephemeral splendor takes our breath away, and we stop a moment, staring, mouths agape, awed in the presence of something so wonderful. And we remember its significance. Animal lovers use the earth-bound base of the rainbow to symbolize the verdant, flower-strewn meadows, hills, and groves, interwoven by cool, murmuring streams of sweet water, where our dearly missed companion animals--now transfigured, forever healthy-gambol and await our arrival. When finally we join them, equally transfigured, and following a joyful re-acquaintance, we will cross an eternal promise into heaven together, there to be united again with our human family and friends who have preceded us, many with their own animal companions. How sweet, how glorious those reunions will be! Our eyes fill with tears of anticipation: the sound of a beloved voice, the touch of a well-known hand, the familiar but long-gone scent, the soft fur we knew so well, the velvet shape of an ear, the pink, smiling tongue. Together again, for all eternity! Like Noah, we bring animals into our lives with delight, knowing the great probability that they will predecease us. Before separation and sorrow, however, comes unconditional love, a love so joyously profound that it transcends even death. Death itself is as integral to life as birth. Both are part of an unending cycle of change, of beginnings and endings, of additions and losses. But the rainbow promise is constant and eternal as God. Now we come to a new year, an ending and a beginning, a death and a birth. As the old year dies and the new is born, we remember the joy and the sorrow of the past, and we look forward with hope to the future. As we ponder these matters, we count our manifold blessings, and we resolve to better our world and ourselves. It is fitting on such an occasion to pause in remembrance of those we have lost during the past twelve months. So many are gone! We each remember members of our family. Our friends: Those others who touched our lives, our minds, our hearts, our imaginations, our souls. All these people we loved, each in her, or his, own way. They gave our lives meaning, and our spirits wings and song. We will see them again, and not, we are promised, through a glass darkly, but then face-to-face. On the threshold of a new year, we mourn those of whatever race, nationality, or creed who perished in disaster, conflict, or earth-shattering conflagrations and plagues of terror. We have seen the grim visage of evil among us. But, there are numberless others who slipped away without recognition or honor. They, too, deserve our prayerful reflection. We remember our beloved companion animals, those blessed creatures who shared our lives all too briefly. And we think of those poor waifs who departed this life without ever knowing human love; or, having known it, lost it. All are waiting in our imaginations, there at the earthly beginning of Gods promise, until we are called home. The rainbow promises that we and our animals are each known by the Designer and Creator of the Universe. Our finite inability to comprehend an infinite plan does not alter this truth. As we consider the Noaic Covenant and the legend of the Rainbow Bridge, may we remember those we no longer see, or touch, or hear; may tears of memory assuage our earthly pain (tears, too, are Gods gift); and may we rejoice in the wonder, the joy, the love our friends and companions brought into our lives. In the midst of remembrance, acknowledge that the

It looks as if maybe he ran, hit a slick spot and fell. We are heart broken and so is she. But I need advice on the best way to handle Nika's milk. Is it best to let it dry up naturally or should I milk off a little to relieve the pressure? I have heard both ways, but want to hear from someone who has tried it. this is really different from weaning a foal because at 5 weeks she was just hitting the peak of milk production. - Looking for last minute shopping deals? I have considered spraying ground up hay or hay pellets with water, just enough to make the psyllium stick, and trying that. With Great Sadness...
This message is from: "Frederick J Pack" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Dear Fjord lovers, Cherish your horses minute by minute..as "stuff happens". I have kept a running update on my mare, Spring Hills Kirste, on my list but have written nothing here yet. Kirste suffered a large sand impaction at the end of November even though she (and all my other horses are on a Psyllium regimen). She was taken to Pilchuck Veterinary Hospital for treatment. The Vets were unable to flush out the sand so an operation was undertaken. Two GALLONS of crap was taken from her belly. After mega-bucks of treatment, she was sent home on the 10th of December. Her incision was healing nicely, but normal bowl function was sporadic. Finally on Christmas, she started to pass manure normally. We thought we had beaten the odds..wrong. Yesterday morning, Saturday, she started to run a fever and began to tremble all over. The vet was called immediately and he filled her with just about every antibiotic made. They didn't work. Her upper respiratory infection caused her to fill up with fluid. She was never allowed to be where she could get a chill, or get wet. It has been determined by the Vet that she was not contagious, so my other horses are not at risk. The sudden lung problem can occur because of the anesthetic procedure involved in a major operation. Some make it..some don't. She crossed the Rainbow Bridge yesterday afternoon. It was that quick. I buried her up here on Pack's Peak today. Her last chance to compete would have been a Moses Lake or Libby, but we (mistakenly) were not allowed to go. My sweet Kirste will never run in unison beside her sister, Kise again. I do not write this in bitterness, but to prod everyone to value the unconditional love that your horses will give.It can be taken from you suddenly. I believe that all members, here, value their horses love as much as we do.. Take a moment to reflect on the gift that your horses give you.. Love. No one can put a value on that. This message is from: "Frederick J Pack" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Hey folks! This means that there will be an extremely well trained white Fjord stud west of the mountains, near Seattle. I know it will be will trained, as Bonnie trained Mike Melby's stallion to Blue in Libby in '06 and trained our stud "The Showman" to Blue in ground driving at Libby in '05. Although it will be two years or so before being available for stud, I would strongly suggest booking an advance position as this white colt is magnificent. Our stud, The Showman, is in advanced training at Bonnie's and will be available for stud come spring. Our Prydarson colt, Zavtra, should be ready to stand at stud this spring also. Got to get some pix taken when they shed out Our options, and herd, are finally coming together..except Bonnie has the white colt and we don'tDRAT.
