Fjord for Sale and Thanks to Steve
This message is from: "Ursula Jensen" I must say the Fjord Digest had become my friend, as each AM after turning on the computer, I was greeted by the Fjord Digest. With my coffee beside me and the Fjord Digest to read, it was a great start on my day. I can honestly say that Steve and the Fjord Digest have become one of the communication Flagships for Fjord owners all over the world!! It was a place to learn, grow, and yes sometimes even sell a Fjord Horse to a good home. Technology has taken us forward to Face book etc. of which like Steve, I am not on board. I will miss you old friend, but have many, many, good memories to hold on to--Than You Steve, and the Digest. Now a little business about a weanling colt here to be sold in 2016. Trinity's Bjrio, a Brown Dun colt was foaled here last June. From day one, he had a presence about himself which he still carries today. He is a leggy Fjord with some height and a good shoulder angle. He has always had three part harmony from front to back. Unusual for young Fjords in growth spurts. His sire is Bastian Von Oderhoff, I imported from Germany, who now resides in Texas. His Dam is Penfryds Rayetta from Kongard who was sired by Myerstein in Holland. Very nice lineage on both sides of the coin. This message is from: Gail Russell I live in Sonoma County. My next door neighbor boards horses and does a good job for a very reasonable price. Only hitch is that the horses are out on grass 4 days a week. If you have an insulin resistant horse, that will not work.. There is no drama at this barn. Everyone cooperates in keeping an eye on each others' horses and in doing little tasks around the barns. I also know of another place that costs upwards of $400 a month that puts horses out on grass all day, although I do think there might be a drylot as well. Irrigated grass. My friend, who used to manage barns, says it is the best run barn in Sonoma County because the horses get individual, eyes-on attention from the owner every day.. I picked Elph out at 3 months of age and took him at 6 months, so he has been with me his entire life. Trained to ride and drive - this is a finished horse. He won the Reserve Championship in Versatility at the 25th Blue Earth show with his youth rider KayLeigh Berg. He likes to jump and trail ride/drive, has a good walk, trot and canter, flying lead changes, side pass, half pass, turn on the haunches, etc. He has been to numerous horse shows (he has won first and second place at some large dressage schooling shows in recent years, and has cleaned up in his classes with a 9 year old at very large hunter shows. Elph is unphased by just about anything, and is willing to try anything. I didn't start riding him until he was about 8 (we were pretty preoccupied with driving for a while), but he was with a trainer for almost two years and knows his stuff. He has no vices, cross ties, stands for farrier, can be bathed, flysprayed, blanketed, clipped. I never shoe him (I use Renegade boots if the ground is rough). He has always had the best of care - farrier every 6 - 8 weeks, never missed shots or vetting, equine dentist, worming, etc. He is in perfect physical shape, and is a very easy horse to keep. He gets busy hay during the day, a grass hay ration balancer, and SmartPak's 4 in 1 supplement on a daily basis. I am asking $6500 for him. I also have a saddle that fits him perfectly (a black Parelli all purpose) that fits him to perfection that I would like sell with him. I paid $2500 for it, but am willing to negotiate for the entire package. He also comes with assorted other items: his wardrobe of blankets, show sheet, Renegade boots, black bridle with Myler bit custom fitted by Dale Myler (#33). This sale is forced because my husband and I are moving to San Francisco, and the horse situations and not good there (too far away, and at most places the horses have very little or no turnout). I am not 'sick' or anything like that, it is just something I feel I need to do. I have two mares, ages 17 and 19 that are trained to ride and drive, one of which was shown quite a bit a few years back. One is totally quiet and safe for just about anyone to ride, the other has some spunk to her. They drive as a pair and both drive single as well. Both have had foals with no problems. They are full sisters, and have been together right along; I've had them since 1998. They have done parades, carriage rides, lots of trail rides, some lessons, expos, etc. Unfortunately I've not had the time nor funds do much of anything with them the last couple of years. I'd like to sell them as a pair, but... I also have a Bell Crown cart - well used but still in great condition. An almost new pairs harness made by Smucker's Harness Shop, and another older single harness of unknown origin (but NOT foreign made). This message is from: Cherie Mascis Hi all, I'm selling my 9 year old Norwegian Fjord mare. I have had her since she was 7 months old. She's very drafty in build (okay, I admit she's also fat) and too wide for me. I'm 5'2" and my hips are killing me after about an hour. She is a good trail horse, backs well, and side-passes. She has ridden in groups and around wagons, has been around llamas, goats, sheep, ATVs, tractors, and motorcycles. She's been to the Fjords and Friends Fest in North Carolina three times and enjoyed camping in her stall, trail riding, doing some arena riding (she liked the trail class and the practice Family Fjord test), and playing games like rolling the giant green ball. I have ridden her with English (Sensation treeless) and Western saddles (presently use a Bob Marshall Sports Saddle). I ride her in a bitless bridle (Nurtural). She does not neck rein. She is green-broke to drive. Lots of ground driving (with a side-pull bridle) and has pulled a SaddleChariot in a large arena and was absolutely fine with it, even when I tried the quick disconnect! She knows the Parelli games and really enjoys clicker training. I haven't ridden her much this year, but in the past when she's been ridden occasionally, she's been fine. I'm looking for a 13.2-14 hand gaited horse/pony and would be willing to trade, but only to an awesome home. Contact me privately for more info. Some of our extended family are getting older and not riding as much, I'm pretty busy with work, and so we just aren't getting as much time on our horses. It's not fair to the horses to just be pasture horses, so we're going to sell. His name is OT and he's a 9 year old gelding. We've had him for 2 years. We bought him as my horse (I'm not an experience rider), to replace my 25 year old. He was sold to us as a very solid, been there done that, riding horse. The previous owner felt he was stable enough to be a therapy horse. I don't know if he has or can drive since we just ride our horses. He's a bigger boy, 14.2 hands, solid to hold me as a bigger rider. In the 2 years we've had him, I have to say he is a gentle giant. We haven't had enough time on him to really say he's bombproof, hence the reason we have decided to sell him. This message is from: Robin Churchill I have the following items for sale: Used Barnsby Bonfire Dressage saddle. 17.5 inch seat, XW tree. Has some fading of the leather on the seat but is otherwise in very good condition. I like this saddle but don't have anyone who it fits. Small knee rolls and gusseted panel. $500. Used Hennig Dressage saddle. Seat measures 17. This is a very deep saddle that makes the rider very secure. Also has a gusseted panel. Will not fit a very flat backed horse. I love this saddle but have come to the conclusion that my warmblood's riding days are over. This tree can be changed by a saddle fitter with the correct press. This does not have one of the titanium trees that some Hennigs were made with which are prone to breakage. Hennigs are very high-end usually retailing for over $5000. This saddle in very good condition and priced at $2000. Nearly new M. Toulouse Larissa with Genesis Tree. 17 inch seat. Adjustable tree that is very easy to adjust. This saddle is a monoflap design also has a gusseted panel and will fit a broad or flat-backed horse and would have fit either of my fjords but was not a comfortable saddle for me mainly due to the medium twist. I should have seriously ridden in it before it was too late to return but did not. This saddle has literally only been ridden in for probably a total of 4 times for 90 minutes or so. These retail for ~1900 and I will take $1200. All of these saddles have been kept in air conditioning and cleaned after every ride and conditioned on a regular basis. I also have a brand new set of cob sized Dover Pro Shipping Boots that have never been worn for $45 and several pairs of new or slightly used black web dressage reins. It is a Smuckers Hungarian style (breast collar) suitable for show, CDE and pleasure. All leather with Stainless Steel hardware. Adjustable traces. Two sets of cheek for the bridles (open or with blinders). Very nice brown lines. VERY LIGHTLY USED - actually almost like new. I paid over $4000 in 2001 for it. It's only been used maybe 2 dozen times or so. I haven't been driving pairs since Dad died in '04, would like to find a new home for it. My mares are 14.2 and 1100 lbs (when they're fit). The harness will go both smaller and larger; had it on a 1300 lb 15 hand fjord once. I'd like $3500 but am open to realistic offers. So I'd just as soon keep Eve who has more "issues" but I am familair w. them and can manage them. I don't want to pass that on to another person. Doc does say she is a good broodmare and still can be bred. I know she enjoys it. It was that email on nutrition from Mary on the biotin/methionine that really worked for her. Thanks. So, Kay, is 7, 14 H, solidly built, as she is a daughter of Fair Acres Ole. 2 or 3 months of training w. Patti in WI as a late two year old. Then now, she has just come off of 5 mo. of western pleasure/trail/road riding. BIll Kmoch at Denim Hill trained Eve. With Kay, to adapt her to the disabled (me) rider or beginner he taught her to stop if the rider looses the stirrups or the saddle rocks too much. Kay knows the basic moves for driving. She has a new western saddle that fits perfect and a smuckers pleasure harness w. upgrades that also fit her very well. Very loving and sweet. I'd love to keep her as my primary riding horse and Eve for breeding. The thing is I am getting older, in more pain. I can't keep up w. two horses. It is funny, but Eve is jealous, she wants to be number one with me. So it would work out for Kay to go on for more trail riding with groups. I have ridden her out away and she is not barn sour, doesn't jig or pull or buck. Her mom is the same way. Reasonable. She has had an unusually good start. Oh, I wouldn't say she is a raving show horse, but a wonderful family horse. Sound of heart, mind and body. Hope N. We purchased her through Patti Jo Walters last fall for my mom to ride, but unfortunately, bad knees are keeping her from riding any more. The mare's name is Maggie Lane's Skylar and she's 17. Quiet to ride but a tad rusty on her cues. I have a pic of her being shown dressage and she moves off legs super, though she's been used as a lesson horse and is therefore not currently as light in the bridle. We were also told she was in a therapeutic riding program and has been trail riding. She's easy to live with, UTD on shots/worming/farrier, loads and hauls easily, etc. We are not far from Chicago. Every time I see your description of the horse you want, Pjoska (whom we call Katie) comes to mind. Lori Albrough said she also thought you might make a great pair, and she knows the horse very well, having done much of her training. Katie is a gray mare, well trained in dressage and trail riding. She won her two training level classes at her first show this year - I'm pretty sure it was her first show ever. She has three lovely gaits, and a comfortable soft canter. We have started some Natural Horsemanship with her, and she really gets it, even though I am green at it. She has had babies but much prefers being a "person" horse. She is a sweetheart, and loves as much attention as you want to give her, but can stand some time off if you aren't able to get to her every day. She is definitely tall enough - around 14 hands - I am 54 years old, 5'7, 150 pounds, and she carries me easily. She is 16. I am asking $8500.00, but told Lori I would go down to $7500.00 to get her a good home. I think Lori still has some pictures of her on her website, and perhaps a Utube video or two if you google "Pjoska ford horse." I promise not to bother you again about her, but I just couldn't help it when I once again read your description of your "dream horse." Have fun at the - I am jealous, and hope to make it next year. I used to own him, and I can provide more information and pictures also. The ad doesn't really do him justice - he rides English/Western, drives single or double, and packs. Rides out by himself, leads across bridges and rivers, doesn't spook, has pulled farm implements and done parades. With consistent riding he is fine with beginners. I would buy him back if I thought I could use him enough, but I have a full barn now and a new business. I originally purchased him because he needed to be rescued, and he came around so nicely that I hated to sell him, but ultimately he is too small for us and one too many horses. He is 15 now, but as far as I know has never been abused or overworked, so he should have another 15 years of good use. He has done about 10 CDE's mostly at the preliminary level. It sounds like he would fit your bill. I would like to get $2,000. Although he is pure Fjord, I never had him registered. I was the breeder at the time. He was my last foal. I do believe he can still be registered, although, if this is a requirement, you would want to check with the registry to make sure. I got to the point, where a gelding doesn't really matter. If he was to stay a stallion, or, a mare, then I would have registered him. But, since we are so far apart, it would be difficult for you to see him. She is trained to ride - actually likes to canter! - and is trained for ground driving as well.
