Re: [Flexradio] Undocumented Keyboard shortcuts- Warning!!
Bob and others, Be EXTREMELY careful with some of these menus. Some are no longer used with the 5000, some intended for SDR-1000 and some settings/tests run will cause damage either to the radio or at least to the EEPROM data. In this case the radio will have to be returned for repair..:-( 73, Dudley WA5QPZ *FlexRadio Systems *(512) 250-8595 Email: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Web: www.flex-radio.com http://www.flex-radio.com/ dunluce wrote: Hi, While going through the source I notice a number of keyboard shortcuts that I don't think are in the manual the Ones I listed are not complete they come from console_KeyDown in console.cs Control Shift C Calibration Form Control Shift D Debug Form Control Shift F Production PA Test Form Control Shift IInfo Form (Voltage and Temp) Control Shift P Production HTRX Test Form Control Shift R Show Relays Menu option on the main menu Control Shift U Show UCB Config Form Control Shift F Make the full Duplex button Visible above the VFO Lock button on main Form There are also loads of Control Key options ie Control D toggles the Panadapter between Spetrum and Panadapter Regards, Bob Ashmore. Re: [Flexradio] Audio
If you read the QST review this month, it says the SSB transmit audio is simply amazing the best they have ever heard. Also, John Basilotto, the COO and marketing motivator, as a bit of a reputation as a perfectionist in the SSB world so the 5000 was designed from the beginning to be one of the best sounding rigs in the world. I think the recent discussion had more to do with the audio chain in rigs in general. I owned a W2ihy equalizer with an inexpensive (-+100 buck) mike with my old rigs (althought I must admit that I hardly ever use it), but with the 5000, I just bypass the EQ part and just use the line section to the 5000 (I do use balanced connectors fwiw) Get on the air and enjoy! 73 Neal On Fri, Jun 6, 2008 at 1:39 PM, Jon [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: I just ordered a Flex 5000 and have been reading the posts about the mic and audio. [Flexradio] Youtube Shoutout
I somehow got watching a K3 video on youtoob last night (we have a few K3 convertees in our local club and one passed a link about running in the WPX contest) and was amazing at how many videos are out there about it. I then did a Flex 5000 search and came up with a lot fewer ones. There is no doubt that the K3 is a great box with knobs and buttons so in no way do I mean to denigrate their successes. My question is why are we not as visible out there? It should actually be easier, since we only need some software that records the screen (camtasia freebie) as opposed to video cams, etc. Neal k3nc -- Neal Campbell Abroham Neal Software Programming Services for Windows, OS X and Linux (540) 242 0911 - Try Spot for OS X, the intelligent DXCluster Client at www.abrohamnealsoftware.com - introduction priced at $10.99 For a great dog book, visit www.abrohamneal.com ___ FlexRadio Systems Mailing List FlexRadio@flex-radio.biz http://mail.flex-radio.biz/mailman/listinfo/flexradio_flex-radio.biz Archives: http://www.mail-archive.com/flexradio%40flex-radio.biz/ Knowledge Base: http://kb.flex-radio.com/ Homepage: http://www.flex-radio.com/

Jon, You put it very well, trying to improve perfection ;o) Different strokes for different folks. That certainly keeps life interesting. [Flexradio] Questions about PowerSDR Versions
In the excellent QST review, they mention that we Flex'ers usually keep 3 versions of PowerSDR hanging around for usage: the last formal release (1.10.4 in this case), our favorite version of the SVN updates and the latest SVN available. I am interested in hearing from the Flex community how they use and decide which version to use of PowerSDR? Do people really keep 3 versions hanging around? If so, what versions are they and why did you decide to use those? Do you regularly find a problem in the latest SVN release that causes you to put it aside for the next one? How many people are using the variants of PowerSDR and which ones? Just interested. Re: [Flexradio] Audio
Hello Edwin, The Heil Proset Plus has both the HC4, and the HC5 microphone elements which can be selected via a small side switch. I've found that the HC5 sounds great without any EQ at all, and Heil sells the HC5 in quite a few microphones, among them the HM5, available from FlexRadio: http://www.flex-radio.com/Products.aspx?topic=F5K_accessories The HC5 element is not flat, and includes some pre-emphasis at certain frequencies, and a carefully tailored low-end rolloff, so you can use it with the FLEX-5000 or SDR-1000 without any EQ at all and it should sound very good right out of the box. Furthermore, you can use the PowerSDR Equalizer to 'sharpen' up the sound from the HC5 for DX purposes, if you'd like. 73, Dale WA8SRA Edwin Marzan wrote: Hello Army, Does the Heil Pro Headset place emphasis on certain frequencies or in other words not have a flat frequency response? Re: [Flexradio] Questions about PowerSDR Versions
Yep I keep at least 3 variants of PWSDR as you noted the 'official release 1.10.4' and then W2RF's version, and also Bob Tracy's svn I also run the 'test' svn when some of Ed's or Bob's new features are 'merged' to make sure I have them set up correctly so that I can test various items for each. When not 'testing' I normaly use the W2RF svn for contesting as I use the Navigator for frequency adjustment and the mouse on the Writelog monitor contest exhanges/rotor control. And of course I run Steve's DDTu so that I can run all the programs off the same comports with my logging program alerting me if a new band/mode station should appear on the cluster. And yes...sometimes I HAVE clicked on the wrong Icon and wondered why something wasn't working the way I expected. In fact I do it far more often than sometimes. duh Fortunately the gurus put that do you really want to run multiple instances of the same PWSDR warning in. Re: [Flexradio] Audio
Alan, I use a Heil Pro Set Plus HC4 element and the DX/Contest EQ setting on the console. Stateside stations have told me it sounds great for DX with good punch. And it works. I got Randy V73RY in the Marshall Islands on 20 SSB during his last hour of operation before he left for the mainland. I use the 5000A barefoot to a 40 mtr Carolina Windom up 25 feet. Now this all depends on your voice, but as others are saying, you do not need to go to great lengths of EQ to get very usable performance from the 5000A. On the other hand, people who use Flexradios do tend to enjoy trying to make the perfect better! Have fun. Re: [Flexradio] Audio
Edwin, The Heil ProSet Plus headset (which I have) has both the HC-4 (DX) HC-5 (Full-Range) elements. You can switch between them. The Heil ProSet comes with your choice of elements. BOTH the HC 4 the HC-5 elements have some pre-emphasis in the 2-3 kHz range. In the HC-4, the pre-emphasis is more pronounced to give the audio more punch for getting through the pile-ups. So, the short answer to your question is: No, the audio response is NOT flat, but provides some built-in pre-emphasis for the higher frequencies. 73, Ray, K9DUR ___ FlexRadio Systems Mailing List FlexRadio@flex-radio.biz http://mail.flex-radio.biz/mailman/listinfo/flexradio_flex-radio.biz Archives: http://www.mail-archive.com/flexradio%40flex-radio.biz/ Knowledge Base: http://kb.flex-radio.com/ Homepage: http://www.flex-radio.com/

Not only do I have multiple instances on the desktop, I routinely use 2 at once when I get the chance to get on the air. I have a F5K and a SDR-1000 and I open up both programs to run 2 rigs. The F5K is hooked to a band switching auto tune amp and automatically choses the correct antenna, so I can point and shoot on any of 4 bands for working DX on CW, while I am having a chat with the boys down on 75 sideband, running 1500W via the SDR-1000. I have the headphones running through a stereo mixer and I can have the 2 rigs in the head phones with one rig in one ear and the other in the other ear. Mr K4CY, Normally when there is a topic on this reflector that I'm not interested in, I quietly delete the emails in the thread and leave it alone. This is an extremely diverse group of talented people dedicating their time and patience to helping each other. If your not interested in the subject hit the delete button. It's very simple. It is blivet (See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blivet and in particular, the military usage thereof). It is not surprising that those who actually had something to contribute to the subject of SDR (as applies to the Flex radios) ran (with their collective tails between their legs) to a less effluent web site. 73, _ Search that pays you back! Re: [Flexradio] Questions about PowerSDR Versions
Put them in separate folders using a separate database for each. You NEVER want to use the same database for multiple versions of PowerSDR. At the very least there may be different default values for some of the program's parameters. At worst, there may be database schema changes between versions. http://kb.flex-radio.com/article.aspx?id=10394 http://kb.flex-radio.com/article.aspx?id=10462 http://kb.flex-radio.com/article.aspx?id=10405 -Tim -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of KQ8RP Sent: Friday, June 06, 2008 8:19 PM To: flexradio@flex-radio.biz Subject: Re: [Flexradio] Questions about PowerSDR Versions I am running a sdr 1k, if I use different version must I recalibrate the PA if I switch between them or just at set up? Re: [Flexradio] Questions about PowerSDR Versions
When you calibrate, the settings are maintained in the database specific to that instance so each version you have available to run should only need to be calibrated before initial use. There is no need to recalibrate simply because of switching between versions. Note that if you _update_ a particular version with changes via svn it is generally a good idea to delete and recreate the database in case the database structure/content was affected by the developer's changes. Having done so, it _is_ then necessary to recalibrate the PA. [Flexradio] new firmware for SVN 2266?
I have been trying out the changes on the Alpha RX2 svn branch. Getting a ahead of the game with the RX2 board, but even without the RX2 there appear to be applicable changes. However, as of svn 2259, PowerSDR requires a new Firmware 2.0.**., so PowerSDR svn 2266 will not load.Where can we obtain the new firmware 2.0 in order to continue with the RX2 branch? 73 John , N3WT ___ FlexRadio Systems Mailing List FlexRadio@flex-radio.biz http://mail.flex-radio.biz/mailman/listinfo/flexradio_flex-radio.biz Archives: http://www.mail-archive.com/flexradio%40flex-radio.biz/ Knowledge Base: http://kb.flex-radio.com/ Homepage: http://www.flex-radio.com/
