OK, I tuned only implemented modes on old aircraft :)
My patches are only suggestions

I reduced the gain by 1/5. I think a low-pass filter could help

don't understand :( Have you tried to initialize internal variables

Yes Ive sorted some of that out .
What makes it a bit more difficult is that all pitch modes have to be output
to target-pitch-deg to run the flight director bars .
If you want to experiment with the version I just uploaded , I'm sure it
could be greatly improved.
But I'd prefer if you posted patches here in the "development" area rather
than the forum. I'm not there much , so probably miss a lot.

that in Prop tree.

Flying the Localizer

Most of the skills learned when flying VOR approaches are applicable to
Localizer approaches.

* Turn towards the needle to correct for drift—except for a Back
Course approach when you do the opposite and turn /away/ from the
  needle to correct for drift.
* Don't chase the needle.
* Establish the proper Wind Correction Angle very early in the
  approach.
* Stabilize the approach so that only power changes are needed for
  altitude changes.

The biggest difference, of course, is the four-times increase in
sensitivity when tracking a localizer. Off course by one degree is a
two-dot deflection on the Indicator gauge. A half-degree misalignment is
one dot.

How do you correct a heading that is misaligned by one-half degree? You
"kick it over." Yes, that means rudder pedals. And you kick the pedal on
the side that you want to turn. Right turn. Right pedal. You simply
don't bank a plane when you want to make a 1° heading adjustment.

Well, nice things, but the about the "ultra-realistic" BK117 we have to
discuss! ;-) You will see that the flightdynamic in FGFS is per default much
much better and physically correct than MSFS per default and close or even
better than Dodosim.

Beside that there might be some people not happy with this kind of VA, it is
nice to see that you are interested in FlightGear.

I'm interested to see how the desiscion will end!

Hi,

Latest release of FGFS you will find here:

http://www.xs4all.nl/~dtalsma/fgsetup-2.0.0-RC2.1.exe.torrent

The most important change for you: shader support (soon our models will look
like MSFS ! ;-)))

GPS and navigation revised and much more realistic.

This will help you also:

Re: [Flightgear-devel] Stencil operations for effects and new "light cone"

2010-01-27 Thread Patrice Poly
Hello !

I have just tried the new light patch, it is great !

No more visible light cone :)

There is a detail that I do not manage to sort out, though.
The effect looks great at day : http://imagebin.org/82128
but at night, it tends to fill the lit area with grey, overwriting the
ground texture : http://imagebin.org/82129

my light cone matierial is as follows : MATERIAL "DefaultWhite" rgb 0.2
0.2 0.2 amb 0.2 0.2 0.2 emis 0 0 0 spec 0 0.5 0 shi 64 trans 0.2

I tried to change the rgb, ambient, emis and alpha, but didn't find a
way to fix it.
Any idea ?

[Flightgear-devel] Fwd: winner Softonic Awards 2009

2010-01-27 Thread Curtis Olson
Does anyone here know anything about softonics? At first glance it appears
to me to be a link exchange ploy ... by giving out "awards" we post the
banner on our page with a link back to their site ... drives traffic to
them. Or maybe this is a prestigious award and I'm just behind on what's
what and who's who these days in the internet world.

Well, anyway we won! Woo hoo ... we are now in the running for a "free
car", but the way those sorts of "prizes" are taxed around here, something
like that is usually a lot more trouble than it's worth. But sounds good on
the face of it, maybe I should post their banner and link so we get more
votes for the free car? :-)

Re: [Flightgear-devel] Fwd: winner Softonic Awards 2009

2010-01-27 Thread Rob
Hi Curt,

The softonic website looks a bit like a softpedia clone, one of these
sites that just out to 'catch' traffic, specially search engine traffic.
They would require some nice incoming links from older high ranked pages
to boost their 'reputation' with search engines fast. The softpedia
site almost comes up in searches on any type of software. The traffic
they 'catch' lets put it like that, they will sell that traffic to other
sites or are members of revshare programs of certain software package
which they will promote more then others on their site.

Hope of course for the best, that it is legit, but i strongly doubt it.
But i strongly dislike these sites, they pollute search engine indexes.

Kind Regards

Well, I dunno if you already thought to try this, but changing the link from
"2009" to "2008" results in a 404 page being displayed... which kinda tells me
this is the first year for this "award"... leading me to the same conclusion as
you. But that's all I can glean; I could be wrong.

[Flightgear-devel] new MP server / Netherlands

2010-01-27 Thread evilslut
Hi Pilots!

In Short: new MP server, location: Netherlands, ip 62.129.133.10 default
port 5000

Longer: I'm evilslut, i hang around in the irc channel since recently
again, and you might have seen a pilot crash/fly by with the name 'evilslu'.
I want to help out with FG, however the real cool stuff has a very steep
learning curve, so i decided to start with running a dutch multiplayer
server. The server also runs some gameservers for another game i like to
play, urbanterror, a FPS. killing/peaceful flying like ying/yang :>
However its a dual quadcore xeon with 16 gbyte of RAM connected 1 gbit
uplink to the net.

If you have any questions or suggestions for the server instance i'm
running, please let me know. I'm really new to FG so all advice and
comments are welcome! Think that is it! Else slap me around on irc.

Kind Regards
EViLSLuT

Re: [Flightgear-devel] Stencil operations for effects and new "light cone"

Hi Patrice, and thanks Heiko!

> ground texture : http://imagebin.org/82129

Yes, that is an issue, and it is because this "light" is rendered as
kind of an post processing effect. Basically, the current blend mode
just adds the light's color to whatever there is on the screen. And
during night it is mostly black which results in only the light's color
showing up.

I tried with multiplying the existing color values, but again, because
there is just black, the result is not physically correct (the otherwise
hidden details will not become visible).

I don't know if the only real solution is to use real lights for
"critical" lights as Tim suggested, but that is not possible at the
moment. I will try to investigate if I can find some way around this.

> 0.2 0.2 amb 0.2 0.2 0.2 emis 0 0 0 spec 0 0.5 0 shi 64 trans 0.2

This is ok, but I would rather use "rgb 1 1 1 amb 1 1 1" (white cone)
and "trans 0.8" which means the cone is almost invisible. The trans
works the opposite of normal alpha, at least to my experiences.

Only the rgb or amb material is used, the others should have no effect.

Hope this clears things up, Lauri

[Flightgear-devel] Atlas assert on apt.dat.gz

2010-01-27 Thread Jari Häkkinen
Hi,

I am cross-posting this to atlas and fg developer lists.

Atlas does not like the current apt.dat.gz because of string 'SOUTH' on
line 119725:

10 51.889770 -2.162530 SOUTH 174.36080 . . 80
11 08 0 0 0.25 0 0300.0300

Looking at other lines in apt.dat.gz starting with 10 hints on that
SOUTH should be changed to S. If the above line is correct the Atlas
must be changed (assert triggers on line 409 in AirportsOverlay.cxx,
variable rwyid becomes corrupt).

If the above line is incorrect it would be nice if someone fixes
apt.dat.gz. If the line is correct please comment on that so I can
change Atlas to accept SOUTH.

Cheers,

Jari

It appears this entry (and others at the same airport - "NW", "NE",
"SW1", "SW2") are for helipads, since they measure 80'x80'. According
to the specification for the 810 version airport files, "[h]elipads at
the same airport are numbered sequentially as 'H1x', H2x'." My guess is
that these should be renamed to H1x, H2x, ...

[Flightgear-devel] 777-200ER another little bug

2010-01-27 Thread Patrice Poly
Hello Syd, thank you for your answers ! I found the ADF, I was searching
for it in the VOR screen, like you said its on the map.
I found the radio, too, digging between seats :)

I experience a nasal error when using the pushback or thrust reverse to
get off the dock :

Nasal runtime error: floating point error in math.sqrt()
at
/home/d2r2/archives/games/flightgear/CVS/Flightgear-CVS/data/Nasal/math.nas,
line 12
called from:
/home/d2r2/archives/games/flightgear/CVS/Flightgear-CVS/data/Aircraft/777-200/Nasal/AFDS.nas,
line 121
called from:
/home/d2r2/archives/games/flightgear/CVS/Flightgear-CVS/data/Aircraft/777-200/Nasal/AFDS.nas,
line 215

line 121 is : var FPangle = math.asin(VS/TAS) * 90;

so I presume some value gets negative or null when making the plane go
backwards, the math is not happy, the script hangs, resulting in the AP
panel becoming unusable.

I'm not sure what VS and TAS are, I'd be tempted to take a abs() before
taking asin, but I'm just guessing without knowing.

Good point , I'll try the abs . That formula continuously calculates the
flight path angle from vertical and forward speed fpm ... I saw the error
but hadnt figured it out yet didnt even think about a negative velocity
...
Thanks for that tip :)

The 777-200ER had a working FPA vertical mode? I thought it was just pitch hold
:p That's nice.

Localizers are found on a few of the NAV frequencies:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Instrument_landing_system#Frequency_list

Here is a nasal function to determine if a frequency is a localizer. It
accepts a frequency in megahertz and returns "1" if the frequency is an
ILS frequency.

var isILS=func(freq) {
  if(freq < 108.10) return 0;
  if(freq > 111.95) return 0;
  var bar=int((freq+0.001)*10)-int(freq)*10;
  return(bits.test(bar,0));
}

Hi Peter, and welcome.

For historical reasons the flightgear cvs directory is still called
Flightgear-0.9. Its too difficult to make changing it worth while.

you can also check the instrumentation/nav/nav-loc , but it seems to stay
stuck on true if you tune another frequency that's out of range or
invalid... not sure when that broke.

hm, that's probably introduced by my EGBJ update. The helipads at that
airport are numbered like SW... in real life, but I did not check if FG/Atlas
can handle it. I'll have a look this afternoon.
