 I too will miss Freevo.
Unfortunately, one of the functions version 2.0 leaves out,
is the primary reason i used Freevo. To capture HD streams
out of my cable box, using a Hauppauge HD PVR. Fortunately,I
recently bought a new laptop and installed version 1.90. As
long as it continues to work, I will use it. Thanks Dirk,
for the many hours of work you put into Freevo, as well as
everyone else who contributed in some way.

 Hi,

I have no idea how many people still read this

 still use Freevo 1.x,
and how many people use 2.0 from git (I guess that
 is only me).

 I
failed to get a release of Freevo 2 out. I changed too much,
 a
complete rewrite and some parts are also
written three or four times. My
 fault, I
know -- an error made years ago and when noticed, it was
 too
late to change it. And since I started a
new job four years ago my time
 working on
Freevo got smaller and smaller every month. Jason also is
 completely busy with his job.

I still say Freevo 2 is ready
to use, but I will not release it. I'm not
sure it works with the latest clutter or
gstreamer, I only know it works
 for me.
It lacks many important features such as DVD playback (I
 have a
BluRay Player) and TV recording. I do
not need it and I don't have time
 to
 code it.

 Besides that, XBMC
 has a much bigger
community, UPnP is enough for many
 people
(even I use NAS + BubbleUPnP + TV sometimes) and new
 development
 such as Chromecast will reduce
 Freevo's usefulness even further.

I will continue to use Freevo 2, I may even
 write an Android client for
 it (after
learning Python with Freevo which was useful for getting
 my
current job, hacking Android is a good
next step), but I see no real
 future for
Freevo without a live community and more people hacking
 code.
 If someone contributes something, I
will add it. If someone needs help
 to get
Freevo 2 running, I will provide it.

Since we also lack someone maintaining the
server we host and I do not
 want to pay for
something we don't need, I will shut it down at the
 end
of February. This means the SVN and the
 Wiki
  will be gone. If someone
 wants a backup of
the Wiki please tell me. The code is already on github
and will remain there. The mailing list on SF
 will continue and
 so will
the mail server hosting freevo.org and all mail
 addresses will continue
 to be valid.

 Maybe after some time someone
resurrects Freevo. I would love to pass
 the
maintainership over to someone just as I took it over from
 Krister
years ago. Maybe someone takes the
 kaa-stuff and writes something new
 and
better. I'm happy to assist and I think the same is true
 for Jason.
 Maybe I will release something
someday based on the current code.

It was a great time, I learned a lot and it was
 much fun.

[Freevo-users] can someone help with dvb-s card Technotrend Premium S-2300 or Hauppauge Nexus-S 2.3 desperate

2008-08-03 Thread Jody Gugelhupf
hi there,

I have a dvb-s card, the Technotrend Premium S-2300 "modded", which is
identical to Hauppauge Nexus-S 2.3, but with additional Features:
http://www.dvbshop.net/product_info.php/info/p59_Technotrend-Premium-S-2300--modded--incl--remote.html

I also have the CI-module for that card.
I try to get it to run in ubuntu hardy with the 2.6.24-19-generic kernel. I
tried to get it working, but I think there is somthing worng as it does not
work properly. My main board is a GeForce705VT-M5, I have two pci slots, in one
of them is the technotrend card in the other there is a kodicom 4400R capture
card with four chips.

When I try the initial channel scan for the Astra19.2E satellite I get this:

scan /usr/share/doc/dvb-utils/examples/scan/dvb-s/Astra-19.2E >
.szap/channels.conf
scanning /usr/share/doc/dvb-utils/examples/scan/dvb-s/Astra-19.2E
using '/dev/dvb/adapter0/frontend0' and '/dev/dvb/adapter0/demux0'
initial transponder 12551500 V 2200 5
>>> tune to: 12551:v:0:22000
WARNING: >>> tuning failed!!!
>>> tune to: 12551:v:0:22000 (tuning failed)
WARNING: >>> tuning failed!!!
ERROR: initial tuning failed

Done.

I know for sure that the satellite cable is ok, I have attached a receiver to
the cable and it works all fine and I receive the channels, just when I connect
it to the technotrend card it does not work.
Here is some information about the current condition relating to the
technotrend card:

[Freevo-users] Freevo webserver LiveWebTV plugin

2008-07-01 Thread Jody Gugelhupf
hi ppl :)
I was working on this thing for a while and have two solutions. One I described
earlier at
http://doc.freevo.org/TipsAndTricks#head-0d183c9bc8870ce53a63467d2dfb3bc9f454f0a9
which involved a lot of steps, I was asked to write a patch for Freevo, but not
so good, sorry. However I have created a script now, which is also available
now at the site above, which should do all the steps involved for the user.
Would be nice if some people could test it and let me know if it works on their
system or not, and what error messages come out if it does not work. thx
oh yeah and the second solution is much nicer, especially from the looks, there
are real buttons etc, but that only works in php and as far as i found out,
twistedweb server can't handle php so another webserver (e.g.) has to server
the php version of the LiveWebTV within a frame in the freevo webserver, but
more about that some other time, thx ppl :)

Re: [Freevo-users] Stream live-TV from freevo recordserver

2007-09-05 Thread Jody Gugelhupf
hi christian :)
I wanted to be able to do the same thing, to watch live-tv from a computer that
does not have a tv
card or freevo installed and over the internet, so i came up with this:

http://freevo.sourceforge.net/cgi-bin/doc/TipsAndTricks#head-0d183c9bc8870ce53a63467d2dfb3bc9f454f0a9

this basically initiates and streams from your tv card using the freevo
webserver, so this woudl
also work for you, but if you want it to work from within freevo at each
machine and not use the
webserver you should be able to take those *.rpy scripts i used and do some
modifications to make
it work with the freevo program, i could alos imagine that it should not be too
difficult as the
freevo application also uses python, but i'm far from being an expert ;)
good luck

[Freevo-users] tv tuner card suggestions?

2007-09-04 Thread Jody Gugelhupf
hi there ppl,
I want to buy a tv tuner card, to record tv to my computer, i decided i want to
get a hauppauge,
but i need one with at least 2 tuner, meaning that i can record 2 channels at
the same time, i
think 2 tuners is the most i can get on one card? or are there are cards with
more then 2 tuners?
also i want it to include an encoder on the card, so my cpu can be left in
peace and it has to be
a pci card, currently i only have analogue tv, so I don't need digital stuff,
but i wouldn't mind
hearing some information on those too, currently i know the WinTV-PVR-500, has
2 tuners for
simultanoues recording and hardware encoder, but what about the Hauppauge
PVR-350, or the
WinTV-HVR-3000, WinTV-HVR-1300, WinTV-HVR-1100 or any other card you maybe know
of?? basically i
would appreciate any card you can list, which can encode/record two tv stations
(analogue) at the
same time, without using cpu, thx for any suggestions in advance
jody :)

2007-09-03 Thread Jody Gugelhupf

i got it working TVguide now :) but i was wondering, when i click on a program,
the little window
opens up and gives me the options to choose what to do and program details etc,
but this does not
work in internet explorer 7 ? is that true or only not working in my setup with
ie7? works fine in
firefox though...

[Freevo-users] freevo webserver standalone

2007-07-04 Thread Jody Gugelhupf
hi there ppl :)
i was wondering would it be possible to seperate the freevo application from
the freevo webserver,
because currently i'm just using the webserver as it has all the functions i
need, or are the two
interwined and it would not be possible or not feasible to do so?
kj :)

i tried your command on my machine and it works without a problem, so maybe u
should recompile
your mplayer, cuz the problem must lie there i guess, but could also be because
of your card, try
something like this:

mplayer -tv driver=v4l2:input=0:width=640:height=480 -vo xv pvr://

good luck :)

well actually freevo already streams your recordings to anywhere in the world
and also the your
other media files, that was already on the freevo webserver, but i guess u mean
the streaming of
live tv, nowadays because i can do all the stuff on the freevo webserver i can
do with the freevo
application i don't start the freevo app anymore, just use the webserver for
everthing :) anyhow i
thought about to do a patch for the tv stuff, but the problem is that there a
lots of files you
have to create in order for it to work (for all the channels you want to be
able to watch), but i
think it should be possible, for a sophistcated programmer and not a noob like
me ;), to use
variables or something like this, so freevo could maybe generate or read out
the necessary
files/info once the user set the things in the local_conf.py, that would be
much nicer and easier
to implement i believe, i'm trying to get that working but like i said i'm a
noob when it comes to
that, but i didn't give up on it yet, hope to have a solution like this in the
near future :)

[Freevo-users] Add Live stream TV with station switching without stream interruption to your Freevo website (www plugin) inside a tab

2007-06-26 Thread Jody Gugelhupf
hi ppl,
just wanted to inform that I have updated the freevo wiki - tips and tricks:
http://freevo.sourceforge.net/cgi-bin/doc/TipsAndTricks
I have added a description how you can add an extra tab in which you have an
embedded mediaplayer
which opens a live stream from you tvcard so you can watch TV over the
internet, also it describes
how you can switch channels through the website and start and stop the
streamserver through the
web interface. If someone has a better idea to do this more efficient, e.g.
read out the
channelinfo from the local_conf.py and then generate the necessary files
automatically or if you
have question feel free to contact me. On my own site I also included a tab and
combined it with
some scripts to control a relaycard attached to my parrallel port to control
home appliances like
lights (turn on/off) and cameras etc. if someone is interested in that let me
know,
have a good one :)

[Freevo-users] download option in media library on freevo webserver

2007-06-26 Thread Jody Gugelhupf
hi ppl :)
quick question, the freevo webserver site used to have an option, when in the
media library, that
you could also download the files, that was before there was the possibility to
watch the stuff i
a stream, nevertheless it would be cool to have the download option enabled
again, as I use the
freevo site to share my media with my flatmates and friends, but it would just
be nice if they
could just download the stuff directly, is that possible? thx

this works fine in mplayer/mencoder at least already in version 1.7
of course i have in my /home/jody/.mplayer/config the following

tv=driver=v4l2:device=/dev/video0:norm=PAL:chanlist=europe-west:channels=58-MTV,29-TellSell,62-DiscoverChannel,33-TMF,56-CNN,SE19-TV5,SE11-ZDF,32-TheBox,...

in my local_conf.py I manually added the chans like Duncan suggested:

anyhow for watchin TV i use in freevo tvtime, so:

[Freevo-users] Freevo recordserver can't stop recording process - Freevo 1.7.3

2007-06-25 Thread Jody Gugelhupf
hey guys :)
I'm running freevo 1.7.3 but i'm having problem with recording things, it seems
like that freevo
doesn't manage to stop mencoder to record or something like this, I use a
custom mencoder command,
modified it in the local_conf.py, works fine from the command line, so that
should not be the
probllem right? anyhow my recordserver logs show this:

[Freevo-users] freevo website access permissions to user and tab loading

2007-06-07 Thread Jody Gugelhupf
hi there again,
i was wondering is there a way to enable or disable the loading of certain
tabs, according to
access permissions, i mean when i enable the login optin in the local_conf.py
can i then also
specify somehow that certain users only get certain tabs loaded when they login
and others get all
or something like that? is it clear enough what i mean? thx in advance
katie :)

Re: [Freevo-users] Regarding chanlist in freevo.conf

2007-06-07 Thread Jody Gugelhupf
hi ppl,
well used scan-tv to get the chans for the netherlands, as actually the
frequencies are different
here in the regions of the netherlands, the same is true for e.g. turkey, and
of course i added
some channels which i broadcast myself in the dorm, and a vcr chan, camera chan
etc... so u can
just better add the stuff manually in the local_conf.py also tvtime has a
scanner for frequencies,
which you can use... or of course most TV providers have a list of available
chans with
frequencies online, which you can just enter manually, u might have to convert
them though... good
luck
:)

Re: [Freevo-users] vlc plugin - how to use? and how to integrate live tv stream with channel switching

2007-06-04 Thread Jody Gugelhupf
hey duncan, many thx =) i finally got it working and also got the liveTV stuff
working from inside
freevo, below is a description of how i did it and what files i created, it
works great, though
i'm sure it could have been coded in a better way, but i'm a total newbie when
it comes to that,
so i just did my best, but if anyone has suggestions to improve it, please do
so, e.g. it would be
much nicer not requireing to create for each tv station a *.rpy file and just
have them in one
file all of them and just be called by clicking on a link, anyhow this works,
nice add-on i
believe

First you need an extra tab on the site, this can be done either in the
local_conf.py in the
following section:

Integrate personal web pages into the web server
PERSONAL_WWW_PAGE = [
('LiveTV', 'Warch live TV', 'test.rpy')
]

or edit the file web_types.py, look for:

 (_('Search'),_('Advanced Search Page'),'%ssearch.rpy' %
str(strprefix)),
 (_('Help'),_('View Online Help and Documentation'),'%shelp/' %
str(strprefix))]
# maybe also a personal web pages

and add (_('LiveTV'),_('Watch live TV'),'%stest.rpy' % str(strprefix))] so:

 (_('Search'),_('Advanced Search Page'),'%ssearch.rpy' %
str(strprefix)),
 (_('Help'),_('View Online Help and Documentation'),'%shelp/' %
str(strprefix)),
 (_('LiveTV'),_('Watch live TV'),'%stest.rpy' % str(strprefix))]
# maybe also a personal web pages

ok now there should be an extra tab called 'LiveTV'
now we need the test.rpy, mine looks like this:

#!/usr/bin/python

import sys
import os
from www.web_types import HTMLResource, FreevoResource

class TestResource(FreevoResource):

def _render(self, request):
fv = HTMLResource()
fv.printHeader(_('LiveTV'), 'styles/main.css',selected=_('Test'))
form = request.args
fv.res += "To start the stream server click http://your_ip:port/startstream.rpy\"; target=\"_blank\">here. To
stop the stream-server
clickhttp://your_ip:port/stopstream.rpy\";>here. To switch to the
channel you can
simply click on the channel you want to watch. A new window will pop up and
close itself
automatically, then the channel should be changed."
fv.res += "MTV TMF National
Geographic Discovery Channel CNN BBC1 BBC2 Net5 sbs6 Veronica talpa rtl4 rtl5 rtl7 een Euronews
ARD ZDF WDR TV
Gelderland Nederland 1 Nederland 2 Nederland 3 Ketnet/Canvas Lokaal Plus UpcInfo TRTint Rai
Uno Eurosport Nick/Comedy Central TellSell
TV5 cam"
fv.res += "
"
return String( fv.res )
resource = TestResource()

the test.rpy first gives you a link to start and stop a vlc stream, which are
actually two streams
at ones

hi again =)

tried both and yes i have 'site-packages' directories, but no
'site-packages/freevo' ones, no
where except in the new 'freevo-test'

> Can you type a ./bin/freevo prompt and get the python prompt?

yes i do get it:

Python 2.5.1 (r251:54863, May 2 2007, 16:56:35)
[GCC 4.1.2 (Ubuntu 4.1.2-0ubuntu4)] on linux2

after svn updating freevo and adding to the 'local_conf.py' LOGGING =
logging.DEBUG
i get this when i wanna start it now:

~/freevo-test$ ./bin/freevo

yes i saw it, but there is no

/usr/lib/python2.5/site-packages/freevo

or

/usr/lib/python2.4/site-packages/freevo

like i said the only directory which has 'site-packages/freevo' includes is in
the new freevo test
directory:

/home/jody/freevo-test/lib/python2.5/site-packages/freevo

correct me if i'm wrong but that is not the same as:

/usr/lib/python2.5/site-packages/freevo

so what do you mean exactly? and thx again for the help and patience :)

Re: [Freevo-users] vlc plugin - how to use?

2007-06-03 Thread Jody Gugelhupf
hi there again :)
was wondering if i maybe just can simply do the changes to my existing freevo
install in order to
have the extra tab, maybe it will be working that way? which files do i need to
change? only the
web_types.py?
i found the following ones on my system:
the first three ones are from the svn, with which i have been trying to get it
to work...
/home/jody/freevo-1.x/freevo/src/www/web_types.py
/home/jody/freevo-1.x/freevo/build/lib/freevo/www/web_types.py
/home/jody/freevo-test/lib/python2.5/site-packages/freevo/www/web_types.py

/var/lib/python-support/python2.4/freevo/www/web_types.py
/var/lib/python-support/python2.5/freevo/www/web_types.py
/usr/share/python-support/python-freevo/freevo/www/web_types.py

if I add there:
  # maybe also a personal web pages
if hasattr(config, 'PERSONAL_WWW_PAGE'):
for page in config.PERSONAL_WWW_PAGE:
items.append((page[0], page[1], '%s%s' % (str(strprefix),
page[2])))
print 'adding personal web page:', items[-1]
if hasattr(config, 'ICECAST_WWW_PAGE') and config.ICECAST_WWW_PAGE:
items.append((_('Icecast List'),_('Change Icecast
List'),'%siceslistchanger.rpy' %
(strprefix)))

will it work afterwards or would i have to do something else?
thx for the help :D

but still same issue, also still pretty sure it uses the right local_conf.py,
deleted a bracket
again to test and yep it the right loca_conf.py, it also still doesn't print
'adding personal web
page' in the log... got any other tips?
thx :D

Re: [Freevo-users] vlc plugin - how to use?

2007-06-02 Thread Jody Gugelhupf
okey maybe i'm doing something wrong when getting the svn stuff here is what i
do:

svn co svn://svn.freevo.org/freevo/branches/rel-1 freevo-1.x

change into /home/judy/freevo-1.x/freevo then I export the installation path so
that freevo picks
up the modules from there and not a current installation by doing this:

export PYTHONPATH=~/freevo-test

next I want to install freevo into the test directory, so I do
python setup.py install --prefix=$PYTHONPATH

I get:
checking for xml.utils.qp_xml... found
checking for kaa...found
checking for kaa.metadata... found
checking for kaa.imlib2... found
checking for BeautifulSoup... found
checking for pygame... found
checking for Image... found
checking for elementtree... found
checking for twisted...found
checking for twisted.web.microdom... found
Docs/howto not found. Looks like you are using the CVS version
of Freevo. Please run ./autogen.sh first

so I run ./autogen.sh
works without problems, then I run the install command again:

python setup.py install --prefix=$PYTHONPATH

and change into the newly installed freevo directory

cd $PYTHONPATH

Then I copy your existing freevo configuration files to the current directory,
this allows you to
play with the options before messing up your existing configuration

cp -pv /etc/freevo/* $PYTHONPATH

I adjust the local_conf.py and start

./bin/freevo

and it is still not working and although I said that when i e.g. delte a
bracket in the
local_conf.py it stop there and tells me to fix it also has antoher strange
behaviour, I usually
have WWW_USERS = { turned on, but not in the new local_conf.py, but it still
ask me for username
and password, when I enable it then everything works fine, can it be that it
somehow reads from
two local_conf.py I did a 'locate local_conf.py' and renamed them all except
the one in
~/freevo-test of course, don't know anyone has an idea?
thx :D

hello :)
unfortuntelly it still does not show anything,

added the patch and checked the webserver.X.log and there was nothing
mentioned, but i'm pretty
sure it is using the correct local_conf.py because when i e.g. remove a bracket
in it for instance
at the line with
PERSONAL_WWW_PAGE = [
then i start freevo and it complains exactly about that line, so this must mean
it is using the
right local_conf.py but the output is not in the webservre.X.log like I said
and no tab :/ still
any ideas maybe? thx :)

the end but

it's just not working
and no errors in the webserverlog of freevo, any other ideas? someeles the same
problems?

Re: [Freevo-users] vlc plugin - how to use?

2007-06-01 Thread Jody Gugelhupf
hi there again :)
thx for the link, got it and tried this out:
PERSONAL_WWW_PAGE = [
('My Page', 'a single personal web page', 'test.html')
]
and put the test.html into the
~/freevo-test/share/freevo/htdcos
directory, where also the index.rpy and the others are, then i started freevo
./bin/freevo
and the webserver
./bin/freevo webserver start
of course inside the new svn downloaded freevo directory, i can open the site,
but there is
nothing like a new tab or anything like that, it just looks like the plain
normal site...the
webserver logs also show no errors, any clues what i'm doing wrong? thx
katie :)

Re: [Freevo-users] vlc plugin - how to use?

2007-06-01 Thread Jody Gugelhupf
well i have created a little side which automatically initiates 2 vlc streams
when i open it
directly from my tv card for live tv streaming and watching over the internet,
one stream is a mms
stream and the other is a http stream i also wrote a littel script which makes
able to switch
channels via the website interface, the nice thing is that the stream is not
interupted for
switching the channles, the command is send directly to my tvtuner, thus a
continous stream, it
works really nice, now it would really cool if i could combine it with my
freevo webserver, atm i
run it on my apache webserber, cuz i don't know how to add it to the freevo
webserver, the nicest
thing would be just to have an extra tab, which then loads my site, any ideas
on how to accomplish
that?

[Freevo-users] freevo 1.x webserver: download files and tab for live tvstream

2007-05-28 Thread Jody Gugelhupf
hi there :)
i run freevo 1.7.2 on ubuntu feisty, after downgrading twisted 2.5 to twisted
2.4 the webserver
and recordserver also work great, but i was wondering what happend to the
'download file' option
which you had in a previsou version of freevo (1.5.x something i believe), now
i can only view
files in a stream but not save it anymore, can i activate that somehow? was a
nice function as we
used it in our homenetwork to share files and also with other friends on the
net.
I was also wondering if there is a way to edit the webserver site, e.g. add my
custom tab, which
then loads a html file in it or something like that? I found the main.css and
the *.rpy files, i
think somehow that has something to do with it... cuz i want to load a html
site with an embedded
player (wmp and vlc) which automatically by clicking on it first initiates
xawtv(-remote) on my
computer (to be able to switch chans from the html interface) and loads a live
stream from my
tvcard from a initiated vlc stream with the '-dummy' option (so no interface),
so i got that part
working but like i said wanted to add a tab which loads the html file, any
suggestions? thx in
advance :D
