Re: Trading oversee

2003-02-24 Thread DavidWedge
Greetings all.
For the uninvolved, please discard this lengthy note. I apologize for the
inconvenience.

If someone has a problem with our business, PLEASE by all means, call our
shop. I will post info below for our business. We have been doing
Powerbook stuff for years, and occasionally a shipment gets lost,
miss-shipped, or something. But it is NEVER our intention to rip anyone off.

I really detest putting a note like this up to the group, as it sounds as if
we're patting ourselves on the back. But we have grown from a little
garage-based business to a 7 person operation in only a few dozen months.
However, this growth is not without a few bumps and dips in the road (i'm
sure anyone in business knows how that goes).

In December I contracted pneumonia, and very nearly died the first week of
January. I got over that (well i got out of the hospital), then contracted a
kidney infection, the flu, a bladder infection, and most recently the dreaded
stomach virus. I've become the walking test machine for several
pharmacueticals this month. I'm now working most of the time again, but as
you can imagine, not at full steam. The unusual thing is, this is the first
time I went to the hospital since I was born!

At the same time (1st week January), our sales manager Trey got an incredible
offer for a 6 week contract using his undergraduate training, which he has
accepted, leaving us in a short-term lurch. This is being remedied now, and
we hope for his soon return!

The short of all this is that if you've sent an email to us, it may have not
been read for days. I've got 2 full-time sales persons trying to handle this
area, but we just can't keep up with all the correspondence.

So, if you have questions, PLEASE, PLEASE call us. We'lll do all we can to
figure out what is wrong, and we'll do whatever we can to remedy it!
Our phone and fax#'s are posted below.

I will not post this again to this group--thanks for your understanding; I
hope this explains part of the current situation, and we assure you that our
business stands fully behind the Powerbook world.

Thanks,
David Wegener, owner

Thanks. Laurent. You answered the question that occurred to me as soon as my
AirPort icon disappeared in a puff of smoke‹how do I put it back if I ever
need it in the future?

There are also quite a few icons in the menu bar that are controlled by
another piece of software. For instance, you can turn off or remove the
AirPort icon by accessing the AirPort tab in the Network preference pane, in
System Preferences. There is a checkbox there to show AirPort status in the
menu bar. iChat has a similar setting, the Date and Time pref pane as well,

Re: Trading oversee (with WegenerMedia)

2003-02-24 Thread David M. Ensteness
As for PayPal - I actually had an issue with the reverse, I shipped
someone something once on the swap list and PayPal refunded him because
I could not prove that he did not get the item ... I felt taken, I was
out the item and the payment.

As for Wegener Media, I know that the owner is on several of the lists
at LEM and I have had contact on them with him before, seemed an OK guy
but I have not received responses to inquires I have made about items
in the past couple months from him, perhaps things have changed.

" Just a little experience in buying stuff
oversee.

By beginning November 2002 I ordered PB
Wallstreet batteries=20
(internal + external) from WegenerMedia (ibookparts
and
powerbookpart=20
stores on internet), for an amount of $225,00, using
PayPal.

As I hadn't received anything by the beginning
of December, I=20
sent an eMail to WegenerMedia, stating that I was
still waiting for
my=20=

batteries and asking if everything was ok with my
order. The answer
I=20
got was not completely satisfying to me ("Did you
receive these
yet?"),=20=

but I thought that one month was not so much for
receiving this kind
of=20=

package from US to France, and I decided to wait some
more.

I guess this was a mistake: as I still hadn't
received anything
by=20=

the end of January, I sent another email to
Wegenermedia, but did
not=20
get any answer. A few days later, I sent another mail
stating that I=20
was considering to activate PayPal user complaint
procedure, and I=20
didn't get any answer.

So I turned to PayPal, and I got an answer from
them: I had
one=20
month to activate the user complaint procedure, and as
the delay was=20
ran off, they couldn't only ask WegenerMedia to do
their best to
solve=20=

the issue. At this date, I still don't have any news
from WegenerMedia.

Should I say that I feel like I reached the
limits of this kind
of=20=

trading:
  - You don't really expect to receive your orders
using oversee=20
mails in one month, except if you decide to pay a lot
more for very=20
short delivery (which was not proposed to me when I
asked for
delivery=20=

costs), so you can't expect anything from PayPal or
other equivalent=20
services, even if you pay for using them,
 - When you do this kind of transaction, it seems
that the only=20
thing you are sure of, is that the money you give will
be received,
not=20=

your order, specially when you work with what seems to
be dishonest=20
companies or people.

I can imagine that my order was really sent by
WegenerMedia,
and=20
might have been lost between them and my home. What I
can't
understand=20=

is that I did the best to ensure that my money was
effectively sent
to=20=

WegenerMedia, but that the equivalent was not done by
them: I did
not=20
receive my order, I couldn't get any answer from them,
even after=20
asking PayPal (but did PayPal really get in touch with
them ?). The=20
result is that I paid a fair amount of money... for
nothing.

I really feel like angry: loosing money is a bad
thing by
itself,=20=

but when you are completely left by the one who took
your money and=20
don't even give the appearance to care, is even more
difficult to=20
accept.

Well, maybe I am rather naive and this kind of
things happens=20
everyday. In this case, this mail will, at least
permit to share my=20
experience and to remind people to be very cautious,
much more than
I=20
was.

It looks like I'm not the only one having problems
with Dave Wegener at Wegener Media. I've been trying
to straighten out some of his dealings for months. At
present I'm waiting for the return of $299 and 512 MB
of RAM which he personnaly promised.
Gerard, if you can not get satisfaction with a
situation such as yours, I would suggest the
following:
1. Report your payment to Paypal as fraudulent.
2. If you used US Mail for any transferrals or
communication, inform them of any illegal activity,
ie. fraud
3. Communicate your situation, as you have done, to
others that may use the services. The more people that
know of your problem, the fewer people will deal with
someone disreputable.

Hopefully, we will both be able offer retractions to
our comments if we are only seeing a normal delay and
nothing illegal is taking place. So far, based on my
experiance, I would suggest people should reconsider
if tempted to do businness with Dave Wegener or
Wegener Media.

Beige G3 Slow Down

2003-02-24 Thread bobshutts
Hello G-Listers:

Here is my strange tale. We are running a G3 Desktop (333 mhz model) with
256 megs of RAM. The unit is networked to our LAN (three volumes are
usually on the desktop.) The applications are Office 2001, SnapMail,
Timeslips and Quicken 2000. Around the middle of the day, the user's G3
starts lagging during typing. She types a few letters, there is a delay,
then the letters appear. Things keep slowing down until she restarts.
After restart, things are fine again. The user has been cautioned not to
quit and restart applications all day long; once she opens an application,
she leaves it open and tabs between applications.

I have completely reformatted and reinstalled all software on this unit.
The problem has not gone away. I have zapped PRAM. The user's SnapMail and
Timeslips application are using some pretty big data files. Quitting these
apps does not help the situation, but I still wonder if there is a
connection. I almost think it's hardware-related, but why would restarting
help?

Thanks!

When you say you "lost" it in OS X - did they ever have a preview? I've

Hi all

If the prismo use's the same drive's as the lombard,

look for smartdisk drives in firewire caseing's they are cheap on ebay
at the moment, and most of them are Teac branded drives inside.

These make very good swap in/out drives in the old caseing's as the
connector cards have the same interface.( i have a cd rw in my lombard
out of one of these case's)

HELP!

2003-02-24 Thread Shannon M. Smith
I have a Wallstreet 266 which I have been slaving over for two weeks now,
soldering the power connector, putting the hard drive in my PowerMac G3
tower to try and install the system folder… aargh! Still won’t boot. I
think I need system enabler 777 because I’m running OS 8.1, but it doesn’t
have the enabler (I have retail disk that installs 8.0 and then updates it
to 8.1). Can someone help me? Is there a place to download it or can
someone email it to me?

Thanks,

Re: Trading oversee

2003-02-24 Thread Herbert Goodfriend
As several subscribers have testified to 100% satisfaction with
Wegener Media, I feel compelled to report that my experience was
somewhat different. I had a serious problem with a PowerBook
purchased from Wegener Media and it took a long time to resolve. I
believe that Mr. Wegener is honest (he did resolve the problem in a
fair manner) but in certain respects his shop seemed to be poorly
organized and this made the process very frustrating.

Re: Trashing vs Shredding?

2003-02-24 Thread Phillip Burk
I would state that this software is a wee bit better than just emptying
your Trash before disposing/selling an old drive. Instead of deleting
the reference to the file this piece of software most likely overwrites
the file with data. Random would be best. This is, however, something
you can do yourself from the OS X terminal if you are really interested
in drive security.

Knowing Problem with Cisco VPN Client 3.7.2 and 3.7.3

2003-02-24 Thread Carsten Marx
Hello to everyone,

This is only a notice for those who had or will have problems with the
ethernet.

I was in trouble with my iBook's networkadapter the last four weeks.
Now the error is fixed.
The Cisco VPN Client 3.7.2 and 3.7.3 makes large difficulties with the
network. Switching from one Location to an other is only possible if
you restart your Mac, when you turn your Mac sleeping, after waking up
you can't establish any network connection and so on

The solution for this problem is to uninstall the Cisco VPN Client
3.7.2 or 3.7.3 and install the older version 3.7.0 .
Hope this will help some users.

greetings

carsten

I stand behind David Wegener 100%. He is reliable and ships quickly. I
have ordered parts form him time and time again. He shipped your order. If
he says he did, then he did. You should take your complaint to France's

When I transplanted the UDJA 330 CD/RW in the Matshita Expansion Bay Module
for my Pismo, I purchased mine on ebay (Matshita CD/DVD) for around $45. The
previous owner claimed it didn't play DVD's, but when I received it I had no
problem playing DVD's on it, but I only played two DVD's. ebay is the only
place I know of that you can purchase the drive for a price that will
justify doing the transformation, but if you only want a drive to use, the
many vendors like http://www.powerbookguy.com/pismo.html seem to carry them.
I see he has two Matshita drives for sale right now for $179.

No hotsync to new Ibook

2003-02-24 Thread Kent Wieland
I've recently bought a new 800mhz 12.1" Ibook and have been thrilled
with it, save for the fact that I can't get my palm to hotsync to it.
I'm using Palm Desktop v.4 with a Palm IIIc, a Belkin serial-to-USB
adapter, and OS 10.2.3. The system profiler seems to know that there
is a device on the USB bus but the Palm won't hotsync.

I have tried adjusting the connection settings via Palm Desktop/Hotsync
settings and also on the IIIc. No dice. Is this combination of
hardware incompatible? Do I need some other facet of OSX, such as
Isync, to make this work? Is this a known (to everyone but me) problem
with OSX and older serial cradle Palms?

Thanks in advance for any assistance. I'm in digest mode so forgive if
my responses are delayed.

Have the best Monday possible everyone,
Kent

Trading oversee

2003-02-24 Thread Gérard Mittaux-Biron
Just a little experience in buying stuff oversee.

By beginning November 2002 I ordered PB Wallstreet batteries
(internal + external) from WegenerMedia (ibookparts and powerbookpart
stores on internet), for an amount of $225,00, using PayPal.

As I hadn't received anything by the beginning of December, I
sent an eMail to WegenerMedia, stating that I was still waiting for my
batteries and asking if everything was ok with my order. The answer I
got was not completely satisfying to me ("Did you receive these yet?"),
but I thought that one month was not so much for receiving this kind of
package from US to France, and I decided to wait some more.

I guess this was a mistake: as I still hadn't received anything by
the end of January, I sent another email to Wegenermedia, but did not
get any answer. A few days later, I sent another mail stating that I
was considering to activate PayPal user complaint procedure, and I
didn't get any answer.

So I turned to PayPal, and I got an answer from them: I had one
month to activate the user complaint procedure, and as the delay was
ran off, they couldn't only ask WegenerMedia to do their best to solve
the issue. At this date, I still don't have any news from WegenerMedia.

Should I say that I feel like I reached the limits of this kind of
trading:
 - You don't really expect to receive your orders using oversee
mails in one month, except if you decide to pay a lot more for very
short delivery (which was not proposed to me when I asked for delivery
costs), so you can't expect anything from PayPal or other equivalent
services, even if you pay for using them,
- When you do this kind of transaction, it seems that the only
thing you are sure of, is that the money you give will be received, not
your order, specially when you work with what seems to be dishonest
companies or people.

I can imagine that my order was really sent by WegenerMedia, and
might have been lost between them and my home. What I can't understand
is that I did the best to ensure that my money was effectively sent to
WegenerMedia, but that the equivalent was not done by them: I did not
receive my order, I couldn't get any answer from them, even after
asking PayPal (but did PayPal really get in touch with them ?). The
result is that I paid a fair amount of money... for nothing.

I really feel like angry: loosing money is a bad thing by itself,
but when you are completely left by the one who took your money and
don't even give the appearance to care, is even more difficult to
accept.

Well, maybe I am rather naive and this kind of things happens
everyday. In this case, this mail will, at least permit to share my
experience and to remind people to be very cautious, much more than I
was.

Gérard.

short delivery (which was not proposed to me when I asked for delivery
costs), so you can't expect anything from PayPal or other equivalent
services, even if you pay for using them,
- When you do this kind of transaction, it seems that the only
thing you are sure of, is that the money you give will be received, not
your order, specially when you work with what seems to be dishonest
companies or people.

I really feel like angry: loosing money is a bad thing by itself,
but when you are completely left by the one who took your money and
don't even give the appearance to care, is even more difficult to
accept.

Well, maybe I am rather naive and this kind of things happens
everyday. In this case, this mail will, at least permit to share my
experience and to remind people to be very cautious, much more than I
was.

Gérard.

Actually, I think it _is_ a problem with the brand of drive. My LG has
failed twice, and both times it has been replaced by a LG. Once my Battery
died at the same time. At least I have Applecare till Jan. '03. You can try
and beg for a Matsushita (or Matshita) SR-8174, but I tried from the
Applecare-Europe folks and they wouldn't do it. I am going to go to an
applestore with a printed list in my hand of how many times the battery and
LG drive has been replaced on my book. Apple thinks they are saving money by
not replacing my motherboard, but I think that might be the only cure to the
problem.

I have also heard success at using a PC DVD/CD-R in the old casing of the
failed drive. I could find the web info (http://www.xlr8yourmac.com/) if
anyone wants it.

Good luck,
Ryan
