RE - Carbon Copy Cloner
To the best of my knowledge, CCC is the only SW that will make a bootable image of an OS X start up disk. You can also use it to make periodic back-ups of said bootable disks. Best George Just got back from vacation and read the above. There is indeed another way to make a bootable image of an OS X start up disk, at least in OS X.3.3. I am always surprised so few people know about it. Launch Disk Utility Click on a HD Icon so the tabs (First Aid/Erase/Restore) appear Choose Restore tab Drag the icon of the HD for which you wish to make a bootable image into the Source Window. Drag the icon of the HD to which you wish to make the bootable image into the Destination Window. ONLY choice is to whether or not to click the Erase Destination box. His Restore button and sit back and wait a few minutes and that's it. Bob -- G-Books is sponsored by http://lowendmac.com/ and... When I installed OS 10.3 the DVD player on my G3 Pismo was broken. I googled around for info on the thing (it was almost free) and ran across a site with various hacks. (Sorry, I can't recall the URL.) One involved opening up the thing and adding an external antenna. There were also various designs for antennas. Also, I believe there was an article in a MacAddict magazine about adding an external antenna to the Airport base station. It involves opening up the case and making an opening for the antenna connector. evidently, there is already a connection inside the thing for an antenna. Re: WiFi range?
On the card inside the ABS there is a small plug on the end, which if removed will show a connector for an external antenna such as the one inside a PowerBook. You can purchase the connector that goes from the card which has a connector for a CB antenna on the other end(I got one on ebay quite a while ago), which will give you range of between one half and two miles if the antenna is placed high enough. You will have to modify the ABS case to allow the cable to extend outside to be able to attach the external antenna. There are also commercial antennas available for ABS which already have the correct connector to plug onto your Airport card. PowerBook Superdrive Question
Hello all I have a question, I thought someone here might be able to help me. I have a PowerBook and although I've had it for over a year, I just now have begun to try to burn a DVD. I have a full install of Panther in it. I've used the Apple Hardware Diagnostic CD that came with it and it says everything -- including the Superdrive -- is peachy. Thanks to Laurent and Malcolm for your responses. A VERY big thank-you to Darrin, who suggested reseating the CPU card. As I read it I remembered that I had this problem when I installed the new hard drive. A few minutes of panic then while I thought I had really screwed it up because nothing seemed to work. So I crossed my fingers, opened up the Pismo and gave it a try. What a relief! Once again this list has saved the day. And again I am amazed at my laptop. At least 2 owners, I use it almost every day and it just keeps on ticking! I used to be frustrated at any little scratch or ding. Now I just see it for the workhorse it is. Again, thanks Darrin. I am one very happy camper. Dan- _ Is your PC infected? Re: WiFi range.
I don't remember the exact address where I got the information, but I may have it on my desktop, which I will check when I get home. Here is a ABS with external antenna for sale on ebay, which may lead you to the source for the antenna itself. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItemcategory=44996item=3094857319 rd=1ssPageName=WDVW Tom Thank you Tom. Could you direct me to a source of such a commercial antenna supplier? I vaguely remember an offer sometime back, before I went wireless, where you had to drill a hole through the outer casing of the ABS Extreme to accommodate the lead to the external antenna. The name and address escapes me. Andre. -- G-Books is sponsored by http://lowendmac.com/ and... Re: WiFi range?
This is a good site for base station repair and modification: http://www.vonwentzel.net/ABS/ On May 9, 2004, at 2:42 PM, Thomas Ethen wrote: On the card inside the ABS there is a small plug on the end, which if removed will show a connector for an external antenna such as the one inside a PowerBook. Tom As I cannot return the ABS I'm ready to try an additional antenna but my base station has no additional antenna port. What is the solution then? Play in Pismo hinges
I just acquired a Pismo, and am enjoying it. I have noticed some play in the hinges. They are still firm when moving, but there's a brief lag before they catch when adjusting the screen. The lag is about an inch when measured at the top of the lid. Is this something I should be preemptive about and look into replacing? I have seen stories of video cables torn by broken clutch parts. Or does it sound like I still have time before anything is at risk? I would do the repairs myself. I've already been in and out of several 2400c's and lived to tell the tale--the Pismo looks like a dream to work on compared to that. The hinges/clutches ain't cheap--I can see that--so I don't want to jump in lightly. On the other hand, I want to protect my investment where prudent. Advice? Re: I WILL NOT TAKE IT...........
CCC works great for me.. Occasionally an issue with getting it to bless the target drive. Have only had that happen 2x's, and I've done 20 or so fully duplications. My recommendation: make sure you double-check the drive before deleting your original drive! Tom In a message dated 5/9/04 5:25:35 AM, you wrote: On 9 May 2004, at 01:09, G-Books wrote: We get it.
