Re: ??? Wallstreet battery replacement cells ???
When I tried this on my Wallstreet, which is showing exactly the same symptoms as described in Macintouch, I got a message that reset-nvram was an unknown word. reset-all seemed to work, as the screen blanked out and the Wallstreet went into a normal OS X startup, but what does reset-nvram do and why should it not be a recognised command? Will it work without the hyphen? Incidentally, I have great difficulty getting Open Firmware to start. Sometimes it does, but most times not. iMac Ram in a Pismo?
I have a 512K RAM module in an iMac 500 mhz DV I am getting ready to sell. I need to upgrade my Pismo from its current 192 to at least 640. Can I pull the 512 from the iMac (I think it was actually PC133 RAM - which was irrelevant to the iMac) and put it in my Pismo? What research I have done on the web is giving me mixed signals so I turn to this list. Will RAM from that iMac (same RAM as used in the Cube among other Macs) always work in my Pismo? Never work with my Pismo? Work under certain conditions (e.g. a certain slot)? Inquiring minds want to know! Re: Minidisk fun....
Setting aside the type of recording device, I'm trying to understand these interfaces - iMic and Hi-Fi Link. Apparently they allow you to translate from analogue to digital; upload from a recording device to a Mac through a USB plug without drivers. In addition, they process sound better than the sound card in the Mac. Am I correct on all these points? Hi-Fi Link says it works with PCs. Does it also work with Macs. I dont' understand the difference between the Hi-Fi Link and the MD-Port I/O. These devices apparently do not include a professional Mic jack. In simple terms what does a soundboard do? Can you get a small one without many controls? I assume these do have a profession Mic jack. Re: Wallstreet Wavelan Woes
My WS has crashed several times in the last year or two. It seems to have always been associated with ejecting my Wavelan card, or with switching from a Wavelan-based lan to a wired lan. Before I use it again, I was wondering if there were better alternatives to the WirelessDriver on SourceForge. I used my WaveLan Silver card with my Wallstreet and Lombard (both OS 9.2.2) with the Apple Airport drivers. Under OS9.2.2 the card can be turned off and ejected without any problem. I upgraded the Wallstreet from OS 8.6 because in 8.6 I couldn't turn the card off so I had to restart the computer with the Airport extensions off so I could eject the card. I understand that the WaveLan cards need other drivers in OSX but have no first hand experience with OSX. -- Andrew in Ann Arbor technology is the answer, what was the question? -- G-Books is sponsored by http://lowendmac.com/ and... Re: Minidisc fun
An iMic connects the minidisc recorder to the computer via a USB plug. Yes. And it sounds better than just connecting the recorder to the computer through the line in sound jack, if you have one. Yes. When I said Soundboard Minidisc, I was referring to plugging my minidisc recorder directly into the P.A. system that the sound engineer is mixing the music through at a live music venue. It's the actual console the soundman uses. I plug my minidisc into back of the soundboard and record whatever's going through the microphones on stage. That's a soundboard recording. For an audience recording, or just recording someone playing in your living room, you'd just record with a microphone to your minidisc, then transfer that analog recording to your Mac with an iMic... Re: Wegener Media WS processor upgrades
I had picked up an Allegro 500mhz from Wegener last year. It runs perfectly-what more can I say. I bought it to replace a BlueChip which had the dreaded installation error (had to return it to PowerLogix). Got a warranty BlueChip replacement, which ALSO had the same problem-very frustrating. I swore to never again get an upgrade with software installation requirements-just way too many problems, which led to my getting the Wegener card. From what I hear, many upgrade cards requiring software installation are a big problem. I dunno, but I'll never ever get one which requires software-I nearly lost my mind with the BlueChip issue. I've since traded out to a Pismo (got it for a song and passed my Wallstreet off a family member). I'd say (purely subjective comparison) the Wallstreet with the 500 is almost as fast as my Pismo--well worth the $, IMHO. I ran it on OS9, and it really was a dream. Haven't seen much of the 400mhz upgrade, but I'd be int'd to hear how that one does as well. Just got another Wallstreet 233/0cache that I'd like to upgrade as well. For the price, it seems like a bargain. I bought a processor upgrade from Wegener Media which didn't work despite their absolute assurance. They finally admitted that it wouldn't work after I sent my Lombard to them. I got my Lombard back with a processor that had half my original memmory chips. They still have my memory and never compensated me for the loss nor will they communicate further. They were having problems but I was the one that got screwed. Until I get my original memory back I must caution people about dealing with Wegener Media. Don Pruitt __ Do you Yahoo!? Friends. Fun.
