Re: [Audyssey] the word control in accessible gaming

2007-03-27 Thread jason
Nickol it's very simple in the English languate.
Control is an action you are performing the task what you want the command,
character, or thing to do. element is a word of science so is control as
well they are both synomyms in a way.
Synonym means two words that mean the same.
I hope I explained it right to you if not all you audio gamers can help
explain this matter to him, better then I can.

No. I'm looking for a more origional story line and more complecated. Also,
I think there should be things included like dragons and stuff and long
hikes through the wild where you have to learn how to keep warm and dry and
stay safe from enemies.

What I have failed to see in the audio game industry is a good fantacy.
I propose that someone or a bunch of people get together and make a good
fantacy game.
My idea of this kind of game wouldn't be an rpg or turn based game. It
would be 3d. It could have advanced features. You can walk up to people
and talk to them and you can walk away (There volume would go down as
you do this) you can fight things get descriptions of people and things
or places. You can mount things like hourses or dragons. But of course,
it'll be a 3d game so you get a more real-life experience rather than
just typing in commands or moving through menus. You could base it off
of stories like the lord of the rings, dragonlance, dungeons and
dragons, the sword of truth or a bunch of those novels. I like a game
with a good story line that builds through out the story, not a game
where you get a storyline in the beginning of the game and you
eventually forget about it. I'd be willing to help with the story line
of the game and or the audio production. I'm not that good at
programming but I could learn (I already do a little programming just
not in vb). Let me know what you all think.

Hi Chris, thank you for your response as well.

Yes I am also somewhat baffled as to how she got to this point in the
first place, I think what has probably happened is she got in the
marshal's office before and has now forgotten about it. It may just not
be letting her get in there because of the rats is what I am beginning
to think.

Thanks again.

My understanding, is that you use the arrow keys, to point in the
direction
from which the sound of the rat is comming from, I also believe the shop

comes in to it somewhere.

With the aspect of not being able to get into the Sheriff's office, you
would not have got to the rats unless you had completed the earlier
missions. It sounds to me that your current mission is to clear the
Rats, so
until they are gone, there is no point in going to the Sheriff's office.

I hope this helps

Hi Dark.

Thanks much for the suggestions. I agree I am not sure exactly how she
managed to get to this point either because if I remember correctly the
point of getting the rats is you learn where a hideout is or something.
As I said yes it is a bit difficult to tell precisely what is happening
as we are attempting to figure this out over the phone. Yes I did tell
her to download the patch as I understand that does make a major
difference.

Thank you again. The name is Tom by the way lol.

Hi Thom.

I also had the martial thing happen slightly, however I found once I had
a
go on the targit range a couple of times things cleared up. Sinse as i
remember though you come across the rats while looking for one of those
amusingly named outlaws, I also find it slightly difficult to understand
how
your friend managed to get to that section.

As to Xp running, I certainly had horrible problems with the game until
I
downloaded the patch available on the Bavisoft site, sinse everytime a
fast
action sequence such as targit practice or a gunfight started, the game
locked up badly. It strike me the rats might be the same. obviously, if
your
friends beaten several bank robberies this might not be the issue, but
stil,
downloading the patch might be a good idea.

Beware the ruten tooten, Hyfa lootin, grizly gruesome Grue!

Hi,
I have not had problems catching rats under XP. For the rats, you need
to use the left, up and right arrows depending on the direction. If she
can't get into the martial's office, then she is nowhere near
the rat section. After completing your first bank robbery fight, you
need to simply go into any other building, such as the salloon or
visitors center and do one or two things in it.

Hi Janet

Part of a good MR is both the skill and the weapon one is using. Also the
sub skill of the weapon helps in getting the number higher. Mine is
presently 61 on one of my chars, the bummer being it's taking load of xp to
move it up.

Re: [Audyssey] Fantacy game?

2007-03-27 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Niko,
Yeah, I think allot of the people here would like to see a good Fantacy
game, but I don't get what you mean by not RPG, not turn based, a 3D
game.Do you mean a real time game?
Games come in several types such as: First Person, Turn Based Strategy,
Side-Scroller, Arcade, etc...
I think what you are talking about is First Person. Games like Sarah,
Shades of Doom, and Monkey Business, are examples of First Person games.
While the audio in those games are 3D the actual game play is still 2D.
A fully 3D game would have 3D audio plus 3D motion being able to move
up, down, left, right, forward, and backward.
Second, game developers in our community use several different languages
not just VB. I use C# and I know Draconis Entertainment is looking at C#
as well. Che uses VB.NET and I know Justin from BSC is now using VB.NET.
Many other developers use VB 6, and I know of a couple now using C++.
Two major problems of getting a team of developers together is language
differences and time. We have such a wide range of differences in
languages and skills it makes getting together the team to do such a
project pretty tough. Then, even if the programming languages wasn't a
problem most of us in the accessible game developing community are so
busy with work, family, and personal projects we can't get together to
work on a joint project.
As for the matter of communicating with other game characters I like the
idea, but as I mentioned the other day in an email to another lister
finding high quality acting for games is rare. Sure anyone can voice
parts, but they may not be very good or really exceptable. The problem
is compounded when you need several voice acters to play several game
characters.
I hate to dampen your ideas because they are good ideas, but there
needs to be some thought about the practical side of what you are
suggesting. A game like you suggest is not impossible, but just
difficult to produce.
Smile.

Re: [Audyssey] Fantacy game?

2007-03-27 Thread Niko C
Yes, I would like to se this game be first person. You are right that it
would be 2d because you just walk around in four directions but you might
also want to think about going upstairs or flying on dragons.
As for voice acting, I know not everyone could do a very good job but it
could be possible. Thee are several blind people who act on darker projects
(www.darkerprojects.com) and do a pretty good job. Darker projects if you
don't know is a place where they make audio drama. It is pretty good
actually. And there is nothing wrong with just one developper building the
game but if more than one developper could work on it that would be even
better. Like I said, I'd be more than willing to help out were needed
(especially audio). Don't be afraid to state the practical side of this. I'd
love to be able to make a good fantacy game but of course it takes more work
than people think. I am aware of this.
Thanks.
Niko C.

[Audyssey] Fantacy game?

2007-03-27 Thread Niko C
What I have failed to see in the audio game industry is a good fantacy. I
propose that someone or a bunch of people get together and make a good fantacy
game.
My idea of this kind of game wouldn't be an rpg or turn based game. It would be
3d. It could have advanced features. You can walk up to people and talk to them
and you can walk away (There volume would go down as you do this) you can fight
things get descriptions of people and things or places. You can mount things
like hourses or dragons. But of course, it'll be a 3d game so you get a more
real-life experience rather than just typing in commands or moving through
menus. You could base it off of stories like the lord of the rings,
dragonlance, dungeons and dragons, the sword of truth or a bunch of those
novels. I like a game with a good story line that builds through out the story,
not a game where you get a storyline in the beginning of the game and you
eventually forget about it. I'd be willing to help with the story line of the
game and or the audio production. I'm not that good at programming but I could
learn (I already do a little programming just not in vb). Let me know what you
all think.

Hi,
I got it through my local public library on cd. When I can't get a book
through NLS or Bookshare I always check my nearist public library if
they can order the abridged cd copy put out by the official publisher.
That is the best way to get new releases unless you wish to buy the book
and scan it with Openbook.

Hi,
Max Shrapnel is still owned by James North. To my knolege he isn't
working on it, and the project is either postponed or abandoned.
As for Battle Chess Draconis Entertainment owns the rights to that game,
but you'd have to find out from them what the status of it is.

Re: [Audyssey] The first floor in Sarah: Is this a bug??

2007-03-27 Thread Phil Vlasak
Hi Søren,
This happens because I made the doors smaller than the door frames. So at
certain angles you can detect objects or rooms inside the doors.
And if one wall meets the corner of another wall there is a slight gap that
things could be detected through.
In the December 2005 public demo I had the penKnife in such a space so
people could detect it but not get it.
Being a developer, I could use the move through walls feature and grab the
penKnife.
smiles,
Phil

Hi Phil and other.

I'm at the first floor in the Sarah game, and I have notest some strange
things: When I press the shift d to scan the corridor, I can sometimes find
rooms like the hospital, but if I walk clowser to it, the shift d scanner
can't locate it anymore. What happens? Is it a bug, or is it secret rooms?

Best regards Søren.

[Audyssey] problem with treasure mania

2007-03-27 Thread nicol
HI rob and all
I Have a problem with treasure mania. It's a great game. I managed to hook
up a few treasure chests. I'm now in level 18. it seems as if there is only
one treasure chest left. I can hear only one chest's rattling sound. The
chest is quite near the left edge, but the strange thing is: when I move
left until I hear the waves sound becomes louder, the chest's sound
suddenly is on my right in stead of on my left. If I then press right arrow
twice its on my left again and if I press left arrow once or twice its
again on my right and then I hear no chest sound on my left and my detector
is on and it doesn't alert me.

Hi
Is there a way to scare filtch if he's chasing me on the ground floor
corridor?
The summoning charm achio doesn't work.
I know I can escape him on my broom but I find it hard to navigate the

Hi all
Here's something I can't understand. When scanning all nearby objects with

move 27 steps ahead as the corridor is turning so I have to go left or
right.
What does that 27 ahead then mean?

Hey guys!
Wow! Love the new silverwisp event! I'm up to like 1700 vallour and my mr is

you to attach links and buttons to hotkeys. I konw it's possible. On sean's
website www.randylaptop.com, he's gtot all his links keyed so that all you have
to do is press alt 1 alt 2 etc. I've written to mathew about this but I'm sure
his matters are just a it more pressing than that. Hotspot clickerr could do
this as well, but I don't think he likes me.
Let me know what you guys ... know!

2007-03-27 Thread Søren Jensen
Hi Phil and other.

I'm at the first floor in the Sarah game, and I have notest some strange
things: When I press the shift d to scan the corridor, I can sometimes find
rooms like the hospital, but if I walk clowser to it, the shift d scanner can't
locate it anymore. What happens? Is it a bug, or is it secret rooms?

My understanding, is that you use the arrow keys, to point in the direction
from which the sound of the rat is comming from, I also believe the shop
comes in to it somewhere.

With the aspect of not being able to get into the Sheriff's office, you
would not have got to the rats unless you had completed the earlier
missions. It sounds to me that your current mission is to clear the Rats, so
until they are gone, there is no point in going to the Sheriff's office.

I hope this helps

Re: [Audyssey] Raceway was Montezuma's Revenge

2007-03-27 Thread Gary Whittington
Yeah, thats right, less on the brakes when going in to turns one and three.
That being an oval track. You may think that there are only two turns in a
oval, but to a racer there are four. Even on super spped ways, you will
have short straight aways, but on shourt track like half hile and quarter
hiles it looks like its just a 180 degrees turn.

So, with this in mind when aproaching a turn on clay and depending on the
condition of the track brakeing will away you to get through a turns. Use
enough brake to slow you down and then turn the wheel enough to aim the
frontend of your car at a certain point. You can image what happens next
when apply brakes and turning to the left. If you were on a regular road
you find yourself gong into a side ways spin and may even spinning out. But
being on a clay that allows the wheels to slide, your racer is going to
start to slow down from the braking while the front wheels still
spinning - Original and are pointdown on the track your racer is doing a
slow side ways slide where your back end wants Message - to come from
behind your from the right. If this move is done correctly you now will
have the car side ways andyour over 75 percent or more out of turn 2 or 4
its time to move your front wheels back to center and hit the gas for the
front straight away or the back strech . This example is more for quarter
iles and your late models that can make a lap in under 20 secs.

It sounds like your example was a half mile and your time is good. Bigger
the track the more speed you can get Bigger track you done need to turn as
hard or brake as hard to force the heavy racer to switch direction like you
have to do on a quarter mile whcih means your have to be even more precise
when making the the turns. Not hitting the brake at the right time and you
head right into thethe wall in turn 1 or 3. To much brake you can be reared
ended, or have to notrace through the turn, but have to drive through it
until you can get to a straight away to pick up some speed and hoping you
have the spped to do the turn correctly.
For turn the wheel to the right will really get you in trouble. But turning
to much to the left could maek the racer spin out or even head into the
infield and who nkows what kind of objexts you can run into in there.

With all this have to do and consider, if you are good enough to get in a
race, now there would even be others things to watch out for. With other
cars on the track now one should know who is in front of them and behind.
Like playing poker. Get to know your competition. Drivers and be good Bad
and Ugly. A good drivr near you you can feel safe racing with him and you
may want to join up with him. The Bad divers may be rookies and tend to
make mistakes. The Ugly could be a combination of the two a driver who is
like Earnhart good who charges who charges from start to finish. In effect
drivers fall in to two categories.
Racers: Who don't think of saving their car and charge .
Drivers: They They will try to go as far as they can on saving gas and
tires.
Its the skill levels of these type of drivers that prove to be winners.
Expert Racer will know when to try to save his equipment and the expert
Driver will now when its time to charge.

Smiles, thanks Jim for the Challenge, I may do just that some time.
Actually in a few days I let people know what I just been doing with the
Strat-o-Matic Basketball Computer game.
Smiles, that was a challange, but I have this game now looking pretty good
for Jaws users. Trying to get my Pre Jordan Bulls team to score a hundred
and add Jaws frames was a challanging by itsself.
But more about that in a day or so.

Crash
Ps Jim's racing a game is getting some play on FTP, so thanks for your hard
work in creating games for the blind Jim.
I know you will never make games to be played head to head on the net, but
I do see the golf game now being played every day on For-the-Pople.com
(FTP).
Here's my suggestion in creating new games or upgrade games.
See if you can think of ways to making the games even more playable,
enjoyable and features that may inlucde being in a voice chat room.
Lastly, FTP has even tourneys. I see a time that having a software able to
say post result to a web page. This could be a commissioner tournament
software. Either by manually inputting results or have the software able to
grab results of the web then it can then create the web site results page.
The software will allow the commissioner cearte the tourney web site on
their own web host server.
Whoa, sounds like another add on to raceWay. LOL.
Later all!

Re: [Audyssey] star wars game

2007-03-27 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Josh,
I'm not Rob, but I'd like to take this opertunity to announce the status
of my own Star wars game. For the most part real serious development of
the game has been put on hold while I work on Monty and Raceway, but it
doesn't mean I have completely stopped working on it in short burst here
and there.
I've done allot of reading of late to fill out an interesting story line
and I have finally settled on one, and the Jedi is one of the more less
known. Her life is really undocumented leaving allot of creative room to
fill in stories about her life, and what she may or may not have done.
At first I wanted to use a well known character, but after trying to do
that in the game I realised far too much is known about those
characters. I'd have to side step many pieces of documented history to
squeeze the game in.
For example initially I was going to do a game on Mara Jade similar to
Jedi Knight II Mysteries of the Sith. Problem is according to the book
history Mara didn't really begin training until the Jedi Academy series,
and didn't join the Jedi order until after the Hand of Thrawn books just
prier to the start of the Vong war.
Other possible Jedi were eliminated from my game idea for similar
inconsistancies in historical context.
It seamed to me that I should look at the clone wars or post clone war
for answers, and indeed I found one very open ended storyline.
Following Revenge of the Sith the book, "Dark Lord the Rise of Darth
Vader," tells of several Jedi that escaped order 66 and were skattered
throughout the galaxy, and Darth Vader hunted them down and slew them
one by one.
The ending battle has a sscene where Jedi Master Rone Shrine rescues his
Paduwan Learner, Olee Starstone, from Vader, and gets slain in the
process while she escapes with Chewy from Kashyyyk.
However, I intend to tell her tail following Shrine's death on Kashyyk
and the open ended story of what happened to Chewy's family which were
taken captive by the empire and inslaved. We don't know what Starstone
did following that book.
Did she go in to hiding, did she try and attempt help Chewy rescue his
family from Vader, did she go out and search for Yoda which she now
knows is alive and did not die on Kashyyk, did she try and go after
Palpatine and defeat the Empire, what happened?
Well, I intend to work on a story about Olee Starstone's life following
the battle on Kashyyk. You will start off at Patuwan level and as you
play the game you will build skills and force powers. You will fight
Imperial Clone commanders, Clone troopers, probe droids, spy droids, and
eventually find Darth Vader, and try and destroy him. If you defeat
Vader you will go to Coriscant and attempt to bring Emperor Palpatine to
justice.
Since we assume Olee no longer has a Jedi Master to guide her in her
education she could remain a loyal Jedi following the path of light and
justice or she let's her anger and sadness consume her. In other words
you can chuse to make her a hero or to fall in to the dark side and
pickup dark side powers.

Re: [Audyssey] hi.

2007-03-27 Thread Bryan Peterson
Well from what I heard Audio Game Maker's coming along and, while it
certainly won't enable us to create games on the same scale as what we could
create if we sat down and learned programming languages, I d believe that if
one pushes the utility to its limits one can still create games people will
enjoy. For me, AGM will hopefully be a stepping stone to actually
programming some games, but we'll see once i retake the math class I didn't
do so hot in last semester. After all, ya probably gotta have math smarts,
or at least Algebra smarts to program games. I tried to take a look at the
Chopper Patrol source code and it made absolutely no sense whatsoever, which
shows how far I still have to go.

Hi Michael,
Yes, in one way we are the victems of our own status of previously
having sight. We have a knoledge of sighted games many here don't have.
That said I do aspire to create more and more sighted like games that I
liked to play.
The only downer here is that when I took on Alchemy's projects my own
projects got set to the side lines and are benched until I can get these
two projects completed.

Re: [Audyssey] Question about USA Raceway!

2007-03-27 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi jorge,
Well, I guess I would say it is closer to Mach 1 than Topspeed in game
control and hearing passing cars, etc...
Although, in many ways the game is like neither. It would be closer to
the PC game Nascar thunder. You will use up arrow to accellerate, left
and right arrows turn, down arrow uses your breaks, and that is your
basic driving controls. Alternatively you can use j, k, l, and i instead
of the arrows.
There are also various commands for status like s for current speed, f
is fuel status, g is current flag, t gives you the state of your tires, etc.
Many things are still up in the air like exact keyboard configuration
and things will likely change as the game progresses in development.

Hi Nicol,

Poltergeists are widely regarded to be fictional creatures, and can be anything
the author developer wants them to be. For example in the Poltergeist movies
1-4 the poltergeists were evil demonic creatures trying to kill Carol Anne. In
the Ghost Busters movies they were also dark and evil ghosts. In the Harry
Potter books they are not really evil or harmful just mischievous. In some
books and movies they are harmless.

Hi Nicol,
poltergeists are fictional creatures and can be anything the writer wants
them to be.
In the HP books they are mischievous but do not cause real harm to people.
They drop water balloons and throe ink at you but do not harm you seriously
or at least I think they do not.

Not necessarily. Same with dragons. In some books and games dragons are goo,
at least some are, while others are evil. But Peeves is the same way in
Sarah as he was in the books. He'd throw garbage cans at you or peltyou with
chalk. That's just the way they are. Heck, maybe some Poltergeists just
behave differently than others.

Re: [Audyssey] hp question

2007-03-27 Thread Dark
Nope, a dementor isn't a ghost, it's a large creature wearing a black hooded
cloak that glides rather than walking.

benieth the hood the dementors faces are decidedly gruesome!

Personally though, any description I give here is nothing to the Jk rowling
originals, especially in certain parts of Prisoner of Ascaban.

I'd very much recommend if your interested in this sort of info that you go
and read the books. Truly fantastic indeed!

Beware the Grue! (who's kiss is probably worse even than a Dementor's!).

Dark.

Dementors aren't the same as ghosts. Ghosts have no physical substance.
Dementors do, at least to some extent. Some say they're the undying spirits
of evil wizards, but nobody knows for sure. They generally wear long, hooded
black robes and their faces are concealed under their hoods. To my knowledge
Harry Potter is the only person to have ever seen the face of a dementor and
been in any condition to talk about it later. Dementors lower their hoods
only to use their worst weapon, the Dementor's Kiss. They suck their
victim's soul out of their body. They don't die, in fact it's much worse
than that. You can exist without your soul as long as your brain and heart

Re: [Audyssey] Raceway was Montezuma's Revenge

2007-03-27 Thread Jim Kitchen
Hi Crash,

I've got a little challenge for you. It is Mach 1 on the Kirtland Dirt Mile
Oval track. The challenge is to run the track in high gear and do not use the
brakes. To me it becomes like a sprint car track. You slide in and out of the
turns and it takes split second timing.

My record for 1 lap difficulty level 1 is 36 point 9 3 3 seconds
My record for 2 laps difficulty level 1 is 1 minute 5 point 6 4 9 seconds

It becomes even more challenging on difficulty level 2 and 3. But I just
thought that I would put out the challenge on this track. When I built it I
planned on using the brakes allot, but found out that one can make much better
times if you don't.

Good luck and BFN

 Jim

Another day, another challenge.

Re: [Audyssey] Question about grizzly gulch.

2007-03-27 Thread Dark
Hi Thom.

I also had the martial thing happen slightly, however I found once I had a
go on the targit range a couple of times things cleared up. Sinse as i
remember though you come across the rats while looking for one of those
amusingly named outlaws, I also find it slightly difficult to understand how
your friend managed to get to that section.

As to Xp running, I certainly had horrible problems with the game until I
downloaded the patch available on the Bavisoft site, sinse everytime a fast
action sequence such as targit practice or a gunfight started, the game
locked up badly. It strike me the rats might be the same. obviously, if your
friends beaten several bank robberies this might not be the issue, but stil,
downloading the patch might be a good idea.

Beware the ruten tooten, Hyfa lootin, grizly gruesome Grue!

Dark.
