Re: [gentoo-user] dispatch-conf and binary files borkage
Bastian Balthazar Bux wrote: see bug 69869 . Now I've two question: 1) does this happen also to you ? try run cd /etc grep -rls ' /etc/config-archive' * (the previous two lines are commands but xorg has no diesis sign at the moment) 2) Has anyone idea on how to solve this ? I prefere dispatch-conf to etc-update and if it's possible have it usable ... That is the reason I don't use dispatch-conf. This extra that it would add to my /etc/init.d files would prevent the init file from starting. I just stick with etc-update and carefully check the differences in the new file and my old file before telling it to keep my old file or use the new one. -- Kathy Wills + + Genealogy Web Site: http://www.brannanorwills.com + + + + -- gentoo-user@gentoo.org mailing list

[gentoo-user] Patch for libcdio mjpegtools
I got the patch to fix the install-info: warning: no info dir entry in `/usr/share/info/*libcdio*.info.gz' message. The ebuild for libcdio does not use any patches. I've never done this before. How do I get the ebuild to apply the patch? I've tried looking at some of the ebuilds that do use patches. I'm still not sure what I need to add to the libcdio ebuild to get it to apply the patch. Or do I expand the tar.gz file, apply the patch, and then make a new tar.gz file? I still haven't found any patches anywhere to fix the following: install-info: warning: no info dir entry in `/usr/share/info/mjpeg-howto.info.gz' install-info: warning: no info dir entry in `/usr/share/info/mjpeg-howto.info-1.gz' install-info: warning: no info dir entry in `/usr/share/info/mjpeg-howto.info-2.gz' install-info: warning: no info dir entry in `/usr/share/info/mjpeg-howto.info-3.gz' Has anyone else had any luck at finding a patch or fix for the mjpegtools errors? I know there was a thread regarding this earlier, but I don't think it was ever resolved. The errors don't seem to cause any problems. It is just annoying to get the message that there are errors. Peter Ok, based on what I found from the link to /bin/domainname, if you use /etc/nisdomainname instead of /etc/dnsdomainname the (none) goes away and the name shows up correctly if you have just the machine name in /etc/hostname and the domain name in /etc/nisdomainname. When I reboot my computer to the console before typing startx, I see: machinename.privatedomain (none) Gentoo version number. If so and if all your modules load then you can use the oss part of alsa. The ebuild sets myaudio to enable oss at the start. From what I see it's a KDE problem. Maybe you can bug them as to why it's not fixed - or maybe it is in the betas? I followed the gentoo alsa guide when I set up alsa. In both of lines u have mistakes in flag user :-( /dev/floppy is not dev special, but directory, therefore the error :-) really u like to use ext3 FS on floppy ? (M$ floppy uses vfat) let's try this: /dev/fd0 /mnt/floppy auto user, noauto 0 0 That is one of the ways I tried. I was still getting the error message about it. Yes, I read the manuals. In both of lines u have mistakes in flag user :-( That's pretty rude - especially since you are wrong. Both the user option and the users option exists. Both allow any user to mount the device. The difference is that users will allow any user to unmount the device whereas user will only allow the mounting user to unmount it. Jason Thanks, Jason, I had used users because this was exactly what I wanted. -- Kathy Wills + + Genealogy Web Site: http://www.kathywillsfamily.com + + + + Summit Group Web Site: http://www.tsginfo.com/index.php?rc=VW4374 + + -- [EMAIL PROTECTED] mailing list

[gentoo-user] Question About Iptables Script and Sound
I have searched the forums and connot find an answer to either of my questions. I will be changing from Slackware 9.1 to Gentoo 1.4 starting later tonight. My computer acts as the firewall/gateway for my small home network. With slackware I use a script file /etc/rc.d/rc.iptables to povide this funcionality. It is based on a conf file in /etc. My first question is do I place these two files in the same location in Gentoo as in Slackware in order to provide the same functions? Next, I have a Soundblaster Live sound card. I plan to use alsa for sound. Do I need to emerge emu10k1 along with the alsa? I will be doing a stage 3 install to start with as my husband would be hard to live with if he has to go for more than a day or so without internet. -- Kathy Wills + + Genealogy Web Site: http://www.kathywillsfamily.com + + + + Summit Group Web Site: http://www.tsginfo.com/index.php?rc=VW4374 + + -- [EMAIL PROTECTED] mailing list
