Hi Sophie, What's your strategy about branching? There used to be a branch per release, now I struggle to see any structure in existing branches. Hey! I'm not sure how the previous branching worked. Since we do static site generation it would be the simplest thing to generate everything out of one branch. Would it work if we create a symlink `po` -> `po-42` and add `po` to d-l? Before the next release we would change po -> po-43. Downside would be that the translations for previous releases get 'frozen' for changes via d-l. Frankly, it looks like all work done by translators in past releases in release branches was wiped out. Doesn't look very fair to me. I don't think this was intentional. To be honest, I'm always trying to advocate/integrate i18n (apps.gnome.org/GNOME Circle). But at the same time I personally felt like it's poorly documented how d-l works, how to get in touch with the i18n and you folks just don't seem as available in Matrix/IRC and GitLab to me as it is the case with Design, Infra, Lib maintainers etc. I would be very grateful if people that can help out with i18n details and questions would be more available to work out solutions for things like this. Hi Rafael
There is no need to have a single "po" folder. If you see libgweather, for
example, it has two folders: po and po-locations.
As Alexandre has said it might be something related with the method used to
generate the pot file in the repo.
I hope we can solve this soon.

I don’t know if the auto-detect feature for the po generation is supposed to work with the config in that repo though. Hi all, I must admit I share Claude's point of view on this issue. Localisation is a matter for people who wish to join our community of volunteers, and accessing resources in their language is an added value I wish us to provide. I came into GNOME though the localisation team in French and was motivated by the availability of resources in my language. Furthermore, as I accepted last year, I will spend some of my free time as a volunteer to maintain l10n with Claude after writing my thesis (which will come to an end soon). So, as Claude said, if there is Fresh Blood that wishes to collaborate of this, help is welcomed. We've also recently had issues with GTK where some strings cannot be extracted with our current infrastructure (1), and that make us feel like i18n is really a second-zone citizen of the GNOME world. I'm not sure I'll continue dedicating my volunteer time in this context. But maybe some freesh blood may give a new boost to GNOME i18n, who knows? We have lost the option to translate the main GNOME presentation website a few years ago. Now we can not translate Release notes. This is not a good way from the translator's point of view. Usually po files from previous release notes are kept around and not deleted as I see you did in 9863b6d9c8486660c04941022fd9b0d443bea1ce, because then Damned lies (via msgmerge) will provide an updated po file, where strings that were already present and translated remain translated, and strings that have a close match are marked fuzzy with the matching translation. Regarding commit, team coordinators snd committers should be able to push translations via Damned Lies web interface. Hopefully this won't be an issue. Show danish translation of release notes
I would like to be able to see the danish translation of the release notes on https://help.gnome.org/misc/release-notes/3.36/ but i can't. I think it would be best to have the translation of the release notes available at the moment of the release not months/years later. The Latest Release link at the bottom of https://www.gnome.org/ directs me to 3.34 but as far as i know 3.36 is currently the latest release. Also the submission process for the danish team slows things down so that might take months and when the translations is on l10n.gnome.org it seems it also takes months for it to be available on https://help.gnome.org/misc/release-notes/3.36/ ___ gnome-i18n mailing list gnome-i18n@gnome.org https://mail.gnome.org/mailman/listinfo/gnome-i18n

Hello Alexandre, the MR is https://gitlab.gnome.org/Teams/Engagement/release-notes/merge_requests/15/diffs I just noticed that it actually was merged, despite the close message saying "The changes were not merged into gnome-3-34". that was quite misleading. Before attempted to commit my updates using git CLI, but it failed. I do not remember the error message, but it was not any obvious trivial reason. I just tried to reproduce in order to paste the error message, but as of now pushes into the repo are working for me. So, all is fine. We should educate the maintainers about that and the language coordinator should be pinged to review these MR. Images can be committed directly to the repo using command line ;-) The problem here is that we should no commit translations without asking (hr in this case) team coordinator, but he seems to be missing so we have to take a decision on this. Should we override coordinator and commit translations? Should we grant MiloType (if we cand do that) commiter role in DL? MR will probably got rejected since maintainers do not take care of translations directly. That task belong to us. Hi everyone, I know most of you are on top of these, but I just pushed a few last minute items[1] to the release notes. These changes will need translation too. The i18n.page has been updated with the languages that made the 80% threshold. Hello, Milo. I'm not sure what are you referring to, but I assume it is about the language names available as string in Release Notes translation file. Those language names are listed in there because they reached a 80% language completion status, as can be seen from the last release notes published [1]. If Croatian is not listed, probably it is because it didn't reach that number. Not sure about what you mean when say "adding Croatian to PO file". I've just added Croatian language (hr) to Makefile so you can now commit your translation and it should appear in Dmaned Lies. Yesterday I could submit once to repository on a previously non-translated module (Damned Lies itself) for Icelandic; DL took less than a minute before displaying the new strings (cool...), but subsequent submissions timed out. No warnings, whatsoever. The file passes 'msgfmt -vc' and the header seems OK. Meanwhile other modules behave correctly (e.g. GIMP) so I can submit to repo as needed. Not sure if this is related, but nevertheless still a problem.
