[Goanet] Fw: Postage Stamps Collection - Follow Up for HELP...
Everyone, I had sent the below message on 01 April 2013 requesting help from any one from the 5000+ Goanutters with regards to my request for information on how and what about my postage stamp collection. Seems everyone is busy in their own way, or maybe my message did not get posted on the GoaNet for some reason, or maybe I cannot expect any help / assistance from our always so very helpful Goanetters. I feel quite demoralized at the way our Goanetters help other Goanetters, I had gone off the list one for the same reason, and now again the reason reappears. We are free to indulge in arguments and web-fights on the net, but when it comes to helping, it is a very difficult proposition. So, MODERATOR - PLEASE knock me off this very helpful list. [Goanet] May Manohar Parrikar Prove Worthy
May Manohar Parrikar Prove Worthy Despite the well deserved heavy trashing, it looks like the Congress has not learnt an ounce of lesson, as even the selection of its mere opposition leader had a high end drama and treachery written all over it and not surprising “Pasta mama” had to step in to control some of the stubborn few of the very few wayward children left in the Goa Assembly. It only shows how fortunate we Goans are that Congress did not win the election because if they had somehow won, we could have had a stampede for the limited edition chairs in the Goa Assembly and they could have been playing the tug off war or the musical chairs for the next five years and Goa could have been bereft of any development, as well as even a semblance of good governance. Goans can only say good riddance ! This defeat has certainly shattered a lot of dreams and plans of those that transgressed while in power and now as retribution looms like a large dark cloud ready to burst, pour down and take them to sea, wile is already at work. It was as soon as the election results were declared that Babush Monseratte gave a hearty embrace to the BJP commandant and told the press that Manohar Parrikar was, is and will always remain his friend, was this a wily old Trojan horse that was presented or a white flag of surrender ? The significance of which was not late in coming, as the news papers state that Babush Monseratte who fought with all he had and made sure that Parrikar’s lobby was defeated at the Panjim Municipal hustling not so long ago, is now all ready to bring Parrikar’s lobby to power. Why such an extreme change of heart in such a short span of time ? I am sure Goans have seen through this veil of deception and I only hope the BJP commandant and the CM of Goa does not fall for a cheap trick of a third grade street urchin. Not to be undone the GVP leader, who before the election had thundered that no party will form the next government without his party’s help, ironically, he has now pledged unconditional support to the BJP even without being asked for. It certainly looks like the some of the lost sheep of the previous government are seeking shelter from retribution by offering goodwill. Wise up Parrikar. Finally, with the embers of excitement and suspense of the election dying down, Goans are looking forward to a new era of good and healthy governance in Goa after decades of decay and debauchery. With the BJP in an absolute majority, Goans for once have been spared of the ignominy of high end drams of horse trading and back stabbing despite pre-nuptial agreements that Goa has been so very unfortunate to witness in abundance over the decades, its respite at last. The new Assembly has just convened and with the formalities of the swearing-in done with, Goans expect the newly elected members of the Assembly to take up the gauntlet and do what needs to be done for the greater glory of Goa and Goans. Though Goan Catholics were skeptical of the BJP they seemed to have temporarily vanquished their communal fears, as it was the strong and total resentment against the Congress that forced the change of guard in Goa’s political elite, after a decade of free for all corruption, Goans opted for a change, even though surprised at the dimension of defeat of the Congress, its was certainly the need of the hour and Goans have acted responsibly and have now placed their faith and aspirations in the hands of Parrikar and the BJP. It is with great hope and anticipation that Goans in Goa and around the world are looking forward to an effective and efficient form of governance, may the change that has happened act as the much need catalyst for a comprehensive, constructive and healthy metamorphosis of Goa and Goans. May Parrikar prove worthy of the faith Goans have reposed in him. [Goanet] Well Done People Of Velim
Well Done People Of Velim Only a fool would light fire around a gunpowder keg and later on try to retrieve it. Foolish it may sound but that’s exactly what the security services did at Velim on Sunday night. The IT raid on the Velim Parish Priest was condemned by one and all and people were aggrieved at the bias action of our Authorities. There was outrage from all quarters over the raid on the innocent Parish Priest when no action has been taken against the politicians who are pillars of corruption and scams. It is believed that the Shah Commission report has stated that Goans have lost over 2000 crores that could be have been used for the welfare of Goans, the CM as minister for mines should have been behind bar a long time ago. There are also reports that the Education Minister acquired over 26 crores by illegal means, he had even attacked the police HQ in Panjim. The MLA from Aldona who was involved in the ticket gate scam is still not convicted. The Home Minister and his son’s involvement in the drug trade in Goa, custodial deaths. Why are the perpetrators of the swords case still partying with the CM ? Why has no action been taken against these criminal politicians and why this harassment against a poor Parish Priest ? The present leader of the opposition was caught distributing controversial CD’s in his attempt to communalize Goan politics, no action was taken against him. Police say that four armed personnel accompanied two police to ask the Priest if the people of Velim would vote. How would a priest know that answer, why did they not ask the MLA ? And couldn’t they ask that over the telephone ? We Goan Catholics have become soft targets for harassment of every kind but then there is a limit to everything and the limit was crossed at Velim. If the police wanted to inquire about the elections why was it urgent to send armed personnel at night when there was a whole week before them ? It shows malafied intent on the part of the Authorities and political involvement. After the anger that was aroused by the IT raid on the Priest, what did the Authorities expect when they sent it armed personnel to the living quarters of the Parish Priest at night, red carpet welcome or flower garlands ? Were they fools not to anticipates the wrath of the people ? The Velim episode has shown, the amount of respect that our Authorities have for the minorities and the answer of the people of Velim could not have been any better. If the security services need us to respect them they should earn that respect and respect is not earned by hurting people’s feelings, especially religious sentiments. I sure hope the Authorities are not serious about booking a large number of people from Velim for attempted murder, as patience is running out and the gunpowder keg that was left around the fire may blow up in the face of the Authorities. Violence is surely not the solution but sometimes violence is the only answer for arrogance. Even Jesus used the whip to chase away those that desecrated the house of God and in Velim the Church premises were desecrated on two occasions. Well done people of Velim, Goan Catholics should not be use as soft targets and I only hope lessons are well learnt and such mistakes will not be repeated again. --- Protect Goa's natural beauty Support Goa's first Tiger Reserve Sign the petition at: http://www.goanet.org/petition/petition.php ---
[Goanet] Oops Parrikar Did It Again
Oops Parrikar Did It Again It took Manohar Parrikar more than seven years of political power wilderness to realize he had made a mistake in hurting the sentiments of the minorities while he was in power, even then he has not learnt his lesson. He is supposed to be the most qualified guy in the Goa Assembly at the moment but he still acts like a cockeyed king among the blind. Ever since his ouster from the power pinnacle in Goa, he has been seeking ways and means to re-establish his hold on the most coveted and sought-after “kursi” in the Goa Assembly. Left high and dry by the backfiring of his saffron ideology, he has now changed his strategy but as it is rightly said, spots on a leopard cannot be washed out nor can a painted crow be a dove. With the claws of the RSS firmly entrenched in the BJP, Manohar Parrikar is and will always be seen, as anti minorities, no matter what mask he hides under or what gown he wears, his saffron slip will always show. As soon as the election were announced Parrikar played his vote bank card by declaring that, if he is elected he will legalize the migrant illegalities, it was a declaration that simultaneously said “who the hell cares about the CRZ nightmare that coastal Goans are going through, as long as Parrikar can acquire the rights to the vote bank at Chimbel. He has even promised to lower the time period for rights to the Residency Certificate, so either way, if the BJP or the Congress wins, Goans will surely be the losers. Another point to note is Parrikar’s stand on the MOI, here again he is trying to alienate the minorities, most of whom, along with a good part of the majority, favour grants for all languages including English. Here he is again trying to foster his intent for Marathi, but only by holding the gun on the shoulders of Konkani. If we want to protect our Identity and our language then why should languages other than Konkani get grants and not English ? English being a foreign language is irrelevant, as the most spoken languages in Goa today are Konkani and English and to a lesser extent Marathi. With the tide turning against the Congress because of corruption, illegal mining and the acrimonious RP, the BJP could have had all the bragging rights to the Goa Assembly at the coming elections but there again the IIT product failed to shed out his original skin which will certainly cost Parrikar the most coveted seat in the Goa Assembly. Oops, Parrikar did it again! If only he had his ideologies and priorities right, he could have easily laid his claim to the throne he desperately wants to sit in, but then it could take the IIT product another seven year to realize his folly on the MOI issue but by then perhaps some other issue might be misread or misinterpreted and so the wait for the coveted “kursi” could go on a wee bit longer. Parrikar will only realize his folly in siding with “Taie” Shasikala on the MOI issue on the 6th March, as he will certainly feel the wrath and the heat of the parents who had flooded the Azad Maidan last year in support for grants for English, the only reason that the BJP will not get the required mandate will be because of the MOI, as citizens of democracy, communities cannot not be alienated on the basis of the language they prefer to educate their children in. It should be grants only for Konkani or grants for all, no hera pheri ! I surely could not believe that an IIT product like Manohar Parrikar would have suicidal tendencies ! Keep the fire brigade ready on the 6th March. --- Protect Goa's natural beauty Support Goa's first Tiger Reserve Sign the petition at: http://www.goanet.org/petition/petition.php ---
[Goanet] Do Not Take People For Granted
Do Not Take People For Granted The Congress is reviled by most Goans today, not only because of the high levels corruption that they roll in and doll out but also for the lack of foresight and direction that they took off, with respect to some of the most sensitive issues that are plaguing Goa and Goans today. The steam of resentments and frustrations is building up in to a fireball and could just blow up at any time and consume the Congress. However it did blow up, as twice MLA of Velim, the Minister for Forests was made the target of scorn and abuse by the residents of Rangali, Betul yesterday; there was a lot of commotion outside the house of a government employee where the Minister was holding a closed door meeting, people believed he was distributing money for votes. The house was surrounded by a good number of angry people, and distinct abuses were directed at the Forest Minister by the people gathered there. There is absolutely no doubt that, there are a lot of unhappy and agitated people and the raid on the Velim parish Priest has certainly not gone well with the faithful and are waiting to take the Congress to the cleaners and they certainly do need a good scrub along with a heavy dose of disinfectant, and from the looks of things, the Forest Minister has already been administered a good dose of it. Looking at the agitated crowd, police and para-military forces were called in and surprisingly they made their presence felt in no time, raising the question of the efficiency of our civil services when it comes to protecting the politicians, and the apathy they showed in rescuing civilians, as it took more than three hours for the rescue mission to reach the site where our young children met their watery grave a day earlier. Two very contrasting approaches displayed by our civil services. The Betul incident should be a lesson for our corrupt politicians not to take the people for granted because a crowd of angry people could be a serious health hazard for an overbearing and corrupt politician, when the people realize they have been taken for a jolly good ride. --- Protect Goa's natural beauty Support Goa's first Tiger Reserve Sign the petition at: http://www.goanet.org/petition/petition.php ---
[Goanet] Plight Of The Goan Voter
The plight of the Goan Voter Since the first elections in 1963, the quality of Goan polity has only deteriorated and at present it is at its worse. Goans are frustrated with all that is happening and most of them have finally realized that they themselves are to be blamed for the plight of Goa and Goans today. It looks like the whole wide world knows what’s good for Goa and Goans barring Goans themselves, isn’t that ironical ? First it was Delhi who annexed Goa, then Mumbai wanted Goa to come under its ambit, then the butcher of Gujarat thought he could influence Goans and now even the Bongs think they know what’s good for Goa. It’s now high time we Goans realized what’s really good for us. Political institutions were suppose to be virtuous, with a sane ideology of, welfare of land and its people before anything else but the greed for power and money, has turned politics into a cesspool of indignity and corruption with neither respect nor dignity associated with it. The sanctity or the divinity that was hyphenated with politics at its inception has long been detached and replaced by malevolence and deceit and today anxiety has indeed replaced anticipation, as political ambitions have diabolically magnified well beyond the point of distortion and as such Goans are seeking a way out of this quandary. After two decades of pro-Maharashtra bias dynastic rule of the MGP, Goans saw a ray of hope when the Congress became a force in Goa but unfortunately three decades down the line Goans are gasping and struggling for their very survival, sinking deeper in the quicksand of corruption, pseudo-secularism, communalism, environmental degradation and nepotism. Unfortunately the short stint of the BJP did more damage than good, in their attempt to influence the majority community for the sake of the “chair”, for the first time brought communal disharmony in Goa which nearly led to confrontation and violence, which did not help its cause. Everyone, young and the old today know that the Congress in Goa is fully drenched and entrenched in corruption and to accelerate the momentum even further, it has now opted for “Family Raj” politics, so that just a few families holding on to the power reins of Goa can gallop away to monetary glory, leaving Goa and Goans in shambles and in ruins. BJP on the other hand is playing the healer and pledges to dispel and despise the communal demons but unfortunately, they have embraced a part of the very corrupt sodality, the MGP, who had been on a corruption rampage with their old allies. The MGP knowing that Congress is a sinking ship have abandoned it and surprisingly BJP has embraced them with open arms, so what is the difference in the ideologies of the BJP and the Congress ? Taking a look at the BJP run states in India, it is very unfortunate that they too have been systematically infected by corruption, communalism and nepotism which proves that the BJP and the Congress are two sides of the same coin or at best, one worse than the other. Today as predicted, there are a lot of disgruntled elements who were seeking election tickets from the corrupt and communal parties but were disappointed and so now they are calling the pot black, beware of such hypocrites who are singing like canaries, the misdeeds of the very same parties they long supported and even aspired to be their candidates. Now, only when they were denied tickets they have realized the flaws and the misdeeds of their old parties, how very unfortunate ! The lack of principles in the two central parties, has put Goans in a fix, who is good and whom to vote ? Goans are looking for the sun to shine brightly over Goa, but how to clear the dark clouds and get that sunshine, this is the plight of the Goan voter today, as we near the voting day, do we still vote for the lesser evil or do we opt for communalism over corruption ? Or are we so frustrated that we finally want to get rid of both the corrupt and the communal ? As I said before Congress has amply demonstrated that they do not have the will nor the inclination to work for the welfare of Goa and Goans and the BJP is certainly not the substitute for the ills propagate by themselves and the Congress. We have a lot of options, good candidates, excluding the disgruntled angry one who were not given tickets by the two central parties. Vote for candidates who will fight to save what’s left of our beloved Goa. Elect those candidates who really love Goa but in all earnest, to save Goa we need to love Goa first, do we truly love Goa ? If we do, let’s vote to save Goa. Goa jai ho ! --- Protect Goa's natural beauty Support Goa's first Tiger Reserve Sign the petition at: http://www.goanet.org/petition/petition.php ---
[Goanet] Vote With A Clear Conscience
the old man came out but had the ballot paper still in his hand and we noticed it was still not stamped, so I asked permission of the officer and went up to him and told him that he should put the stamp on his preferred symbol, and then deposit it in the box but he was furious and said “temi maka sanglam xik’ko kaplar mar mhunn” (he was told to put the stamp on the forehead) and it was then we noticed that he had infact stamped his own forehead with the “X” mark. Later I was told that the MGP supporters had told him “Ximvamchea kaplar mar” (put the stamp on the forehead of the lion) probably he did not hear the “Ximvamchea”. Now, this is how our democracy works and this is how we have our elections, the uneducated could be excused but what is the difference between this uneducated old man and the so called educate who sell their votes ? Is there really any difference ? You be the judge. [Goanet] Quest For Benaulim
badly over the last two years. If information received from sources is true then it looks like it’s going to be a tough fight in Benaulim and in a four way tie, there is no certainty who will win, as votes that will be disbursed and divided, as they will be eating into each others votes. If Mickey and Caitu are really interested in defeating Valanka, they should withdraw and support Dr. Hubert because if it’s a two way contest than Dr Hubert will surely come up tops. John on his own will not be a threat to either Valanka or Dr Hubert. On the other hand, if things go as planned for the Alemaos and they win all the four seats then be assured that the oversized butt of Churchill Alemao will surely be perched in the Chief Minister’s chair of the next Goa Assembly and as such miners and builders will go on rampage and have all the fun for the next five years, we just don’t want that to happen, do we ? [Goanet] BJP Is Not The Alternative
BJP Is Not The Alternative Since the advent of the BJP in Goa’s political sphere it is the first time that there seems to be a clash within the BJP, so far, for decades there was no one to question the leadership of BJP “supremo” in Goa but finally time and destiny seemed to have caught up with Manohar Parrikar and with Sripad Naik questioning his isolation from state politics, Manohar Parrikar looks to be a wee bit insecure. Manohar Parrikar managed to hold the reins of the Goa Vidhan Sabha through a coup he managed to institute within the Congress party but unfortunately could not hold on for too long to his reins as the same people gave him a dose of his own medicine. As for the short stint at the helm of Goa’s political edifice he only managed to aggrieve the minority communities with his outdated communal ideologies and did everything possible to alienate the minorities. His involvement in the CD case, the deletion of some religious holidays and not forgetting his bias employment policy, were some of his misdeeds that irked the minorities and a large part of the majority community, I am sure he had never, even in his dreams thought that he would be in power exile for such a long time and after a long time in the power wilderness he now sees a chance to hit back at the corrupt Congress and acquire the rights to the reins of the Goa Assembly. His timing has been perfect the opportunity clearly provided by the Congress in its attempt to go into corruption overdrive, illegal mining and the acrimonious RP 2021. Parrikar knows its now or never, as such seeks redemption and support from the minority community. But as wise as he is suppose to be; he fails to understand the phobia that he had caused and created in the minds of the minorities will not be washed away by merely accepting the fact that the deletion of holidays was a mistake. He acknowledges the mistake but is there any apology or remorse for his communal acts ? He was the one who sowed the seeds of communalism in Goa where none existed prior to his advent which even made the educated of the majority community to doubt his credentials as well as his intent. South Goa and Salcette in particular has always been pro Goa, pro Konkani and pro Congress no matter what sins the Congress has committed in the past but today the situation has changed, with peoples anger ever rising against corruption, mega projects, anti people RP2021 and nepotism which the Congress has been supporting and promoting, South Goa is seeking a change which is evident enough with people supporting a lot of independent candidates challenging both the central parties and their alliances and if Manohar Parrikar thinks he can make inroads into the hearts of South Goans with a mere acknowledgement of a mistake but with no remorse about his communal intent, he should think again, because Goan minorities and the educated majority is not ready to forgive Manohar Parrikar for his communal policies which could have taken Goa to communal war where Goa and Goans would be losers in an attempt to safeguard his own “Chair”. Today with no choice Parrikar is forced to woo the minorities and as expected Mathany has been his first pawn and others will surely follow, but what can Parrikar achieve with a few out of favour members of the minority community jumping onto his communal bandwagon ? Goans and more so the minority community in not just interested in assurances, Congress has been outdoing all their contemporaries in that department, it is the actions that speak louder than words and I am sorry to say that Manohar Parrikar has not done anything concrete yet to change the perception of the minorities in his favour. As elections are nearing Parrikar has promised migrants that he will legalize their illegal shanties, if this is not a cause for concern what is ? It is high time Goans got rid of all the central parties in Goa, are the people in Delhi and other parts of India interested in the welfare of Goa and Goans ? We do not need parties from outside Goa to tell us what’s good for Goa, because only we Goans know what is good for Goa and Goans. The central parties are only interested in numbers to set base nothing more nothing less as a result of which we have suffered for the last three decades as our own leaders have been running in circles around the high and low commands to score brownie points for themselves at our cost. Goans please understand that the communal BJP is not the answer to Congress’s corruption nor are the GVP and the UGDP. Vote for a Goan party with credentials and integrity, let Goans decide Goa’s future in and from Goa. [Goanet] Support Fr Bismark
Support Fr Bismark Ripples were caused all over Goa and more so in Goa’s political pond, when Fr. Bismark, a Catholic priest announced his candidature for the forthcoming Assembly elections in Goa, it could yet cause history in Goan politics. Initially there was a mixed reaction from Goans when Fr. Bismark expressed his desire to contest elections. People, especially the Goan Catholics were not sure how to digest the absurd idea of one of their priest jumping into the quagmire of Goan politics, knowing fully well the filth and the immorality that thrives therein. But two week down the line people have a changed perception as truth prevailed over mind-set and they realized the futility of trying to change our appalling and squalid system from outside the system and now most have welcomed the idea of a Catholic priest in Goa’s Vidhan Sabha. We have been complaining for far too long that a rotten apple spoils all the good apples in a basket but here we could yet be witnesses to a good apple changing the bad ones for a change, anyway it is high time that spirituality permeated the walls of our Vidhan Sabha and restored its sanctity and sanity as well. Fr. Bismark as a socio-environmental activist needs no introduction; his actions and his work speak for itself and his commitment to the Goan causes. He has been leading the aggrieved people from the front in the fight against corruption; the anti peoples policies and the environmental degradation. It is not just we the Catholics but the whole of Goa is proud of Fr. Bismark and his principles. He has been such a revelation in this otherwise horrid situation, that it isn’t even surprising that he commends such huge support from even the vast majority of the non Catholic community, which shows that, if we can come up with some good and credible candidates, our people will support them, irrespective of which community they belong to. The Church Authorities in Goa have been mute about the situation and have refrained from making any statements in the case of Fr. Bismark’s candidature. I only hope the Church Authorities will not see the actions of Fr. Bismark as challenging the Authorities but on the contrary as of service to the Goan society and the environment who are both victimized and ravaged by our very own who were elected to work for the wellbeing and welfare of Goa and Goans. In the Church today we have doctors, lawyers, scientists, scholars, social workers and other professionals working for the betterment of society, so why cannot we have Fr. Bismark, a priest as a politician in Goa ? As a politician he will still be serving the people of Goa and the land of his birth and it could have enough influence to restore the ever flagging credibility of Goan politics and our faith in it too. Fr. Bismark has been a source of inspiration to many young and the old with not just his fiery speeches but also his keenness to walk the talk as well. His honesty, dedication and integrity are beyond reproach as we know how he has stood up against his own institution and our corrupt politicians, in keeping with his principles. There is no doubt that he has all the attributes to be a very good politician and a person who has such courage and conviction as he does, he could be the much awaited source of metamorphosis for healthy Goan politics. On 21st January 2012, a meeting was held at the Sea View hotel Dubai, by the NRG’s from Cumbarjua constituency and their well-wishers, pledging their support for Fr. Bismark as the candidate for their constituency for the forth coming Goa Assembly elections. It was wonderful to note that the NRG’s though far away from home, still love Goa and want the much needed change in Goa’s political arena. It was indeed good to see Goans together and united for a common cause. I wish to congratulate Cumbarjuemkars for the initiative they have taken to support Fr. Bismark as their candidate for the forth coming elections and wish them all the very best in their endeavor and I hope other Goan across the globe will take this as a cue and work to garner support for a worthy candidate of their own constituency. --- Protect Goa's natural beauty Support Goa's first Tiger Reserve Sign the petition at: http://www.goanet.org/petition/petition.php ---

education and health care policy, protection of our fragile and eco-sensitive environment, viable and constructive development that will be suitable and proportional to our infrastructural development and also an employment policy that will provide sustenance and livelihood for Goans that will not just minimize unemployment but also stop the brain drain. Our police should keep to their vows of being a source of help and support to the people and not exploit them, so that law and order is maintained and enforced effectively and efficiently without any nepotism and interference from any officials or authorities so that Goans can live peaceful and secure lives, only then can we boast of Goa being a model state of India. Only then can we really celebrate our liberation and freedom or else as it stands today we would be only celebrating fifty years of loot and debauchery of our Goan politicians because it is only the politicians, miners and land sharks that have prospered in the last fifty years of the so called liberation and that too at the cost of Goa and Goans. Elections are fast approaching and it is our last chance to save Goa from these corrupt politicians, let us do it for Goa and our posterity. Goa Jai Ho ! [Goanet] Remembering Alfred Rose on his 8th Death Anniversary!
--- http://www.GOANET.org --- Protect Goa's natural beauty Support Goa's first Tiger Reserve Sign the petition at: http://www.goanet.org/petition/petition.php --- Alfred Rose, is indeed the best singer of all times and without doubt the one and only Melody King of Goa. Today, 8 years after his death, he lives on eternally. His songs today are just as popular as they were during his lifetime. I consider myself one of the biggest fan of The Legend Immortal Eternal Singer Alfred Rose. I like to listen his melodious songs all the time even though I am thousands of miles away from our motherland and always feel that the legend is somewhere around. His voice gives a lot of peace satisfaction to people’s mind. Every song of his had a unique message and very well delivered. Unfortunately, I could not talk to the Legend but I am happy that he at least saw me in person and heard all that I had to say before he left a gap in this Konkani music world. Just like all good things come to an end, the death of Alfred Rose brought an end to wonderful songs that we always would wait to hear. From what I have heard, he was a man of God and also a very humble kind hearted person. Though his career spanned for decades, he never won any major awards during his lifetime and never showed any interest towards them either. According to him, his awards were “his fans” worldwide. In February 2004, the Government of Goa decided to give an award to the Late Melody King. Therefore, Goa’s Melody King Alfred Rose was posthumously given a state award at the 2nd All India Konkani Sangeet Sammelan, the Chief Minister - Mr Manohar Parrikar handed the award to Rita Rose. In the year 2000, a Mapusa based “Konkani Seva Kendra” felicitated him for his contribution to Konkani language. In the presence of Konkani scholar Dr Tanaji Halarnkar, then Tourism Minister Victoria Fernandes did the honours of felicitating the aging singer, amidst a thunderous applause. She also promised to take cognizance of the memorandum handed over to her by the Konkani Seva Kendra, and said she would work towards getting Kala Academy’s open air auditorium named after Alfred Rose. For all the fans, I would just hope this dream comes true and would like to ask, how many years more would it take to have this dream come true?? Does a Melody King or his family deserve to wait for 11 years since this was initiated?? Viva Alfred Rose and May his soul rest in peace. - Agnelo Fernandes

[Goanet] Unqualified And Unwothy Ministers And Chairpersons
Unqualified And Unwothy Ministers And Chairpersons The Chairman of GIDC and Quepem MLA Babu Kavlekar has been in the news for the last couple of weeks, but for all the wrong reasons. Most of our present MLA’s and Ministers have been shining examples of the rags to riches phenomena and Babu Kavlekar has not been any different. Most of the dedicated and highly qualified people in Goa have to struggle for a long time for financial success, sometimes even for decades, some in the end get lucky, others don’t, but for our lesser or nil educated politicians in Goa, becoming a MLA or a Minister is a jackpot, thereby attaining financial success overnight. I am sure by now most, if not every Goan knows the secret behind this success. The Goa Vidhan Sabha at present is a vivid and appropriate example of this incredible phenomena and most of the millionaire veterans are now all set to launch their sprouts and spouses legal or otherwise in to the money spinning machine called Goan politics. No education nor history in anti social activity is bar in Goan politics as we have a number of ministers who are not even eighth standard pass and some tainted personalities even with underground connections shoving Law and policies on to us. Babu Kavlekar’s “madka” connection is no secret and now it in the news that he too will be launching his better half into the quagmire of Goan politics, as though one Kavlekar was not enough. On a number of occasions and on a number of forums I have previously written about the shady deals and frauds by the GIDC with regards to the Canaguinim Food Park and Auxiliaries Services, where disproportionate amount of land has been acquired without any explanation nor planning in the name of development and against the wishes of the people of that locality who are strongly opposing this anomaly. Babu Kavlekar had promised that the Food Park and the Auxiliary Services project would be scraped but unfortunately even after strong opposition from the people the same Project along with another anomaly called the Marinas has been imposed through the RP2021 on the people. Obviously there is only one explanation why Babu Kavlekar has been promoting real estate through the GIDC. The policies of our Government to appoint party men and well wishers, who are ill-equipped, unworthy and unqualified, as Chairpersons and Presidents of Public Corporations and Public bodies instead of professionals is utterly flawed and that is the reason that these bodies are non-performing and obviously defunct. Even though it is specified that the post of the GIDC Chairman should be given to a person with specific qualification, for reasons best known to him, our CM, Digambar Kamat offered the unqualified Babu Kavlekar the Chairmanship of GIDC, who has no special or appropriate qualifications for the post. As is customary in Goan politics the MLA’s who have the money power and who are the loudest, are given the more affluent and commercially viable Ministries and the rest are dolled out Chairmanships of public corporations, either way it’s the “modus operandi” to siphon the exchequer. Each one taking advantage of their political clout to enhance their own personal fortunes, this is the only reason that they have joined politics and now, they are all ready to make Goan politics their family business and fiefdom. Salazar may have been forced to leave Goa in 1961 but our Goan Czars, who are worse than Salazar, are now bleeding Goa to death and if we want to save Goa, now is the time, be alert and watchful, elections are just round the corner, if we are “Niz Goykars” together we can do it, together we can save Goa, but the only question is do we want to save Goa ? Do we ? Freddy Agnelo Fernandes

[Goanet] Can We Say Sayonara To Corruption Forever ?
Can we say sayonara to corruption forever ? Thank You Annaji ! All the fizz and the buzz of the last two weeks has finally died down, the news and the talks on TV were indeed getting monotonous and overbearing and we, the Indian public have had enough of it, to last us a life time and now the forever hungry Indian media will have to wait for yet another fast or yet another scam to feast on. Anna’s loud and aggressive tirade against corruption is a worthy cause which people of all walks of life have embraced, with open arms and clenched fists, there is no doubt that corruption has been a curse that’s been usurped and promoted by our erstwhile and present political luminaries to such an extent that in the last few years, scams have been surfacing like mushrooms, on a mushroom farm, curtailing and barricading the social and economic growth of the states and the country. There is absolutely no doubt that our politicians especially the Congress, tried to bulldoze the bill with it’s dictatorial mindset trying to emphasize that bill making was their congenital right as elected representatives and the public should have to live with it, come what may, but with Anna’s obstinacy and the dissenting voices clamoring for a change, growing steadily louder by the day, a remedial legislative action had to be taken for damage control, but unfortunately the damage done by the Congress attitude and the delay is certainly well beyond repairs. Corruption, like bigotry can take on more insidious forms, if allowed to incubate and spread, not that they both are a new found phenomena, what I want to say is, if both are allowed open space and time, they can be equally dangerous for the wellbeing of the people as well as the country, so every marginalised group will have to be brought under the ambit of this bill and we will also need to stigmatize corruption as the perennial appendage of all evil and shame by punishing the guilty with firmness and harshness, no matter who, leaving no doubt of its far reaching and dire consequences, instead of just ostensibly promising action against those professing and promoting corruption. Even though Anna’s crusade has been supported by majority Indians because of its critical issue, there has been criticism too from some quarters because of his RSS background and the Modi issue, but these however cannot dilute the efforts of this seventy four year old to fight corruption. Knowing our politicians, we understand what they stand for and why they stand for, so BJP’s double feet plunge in support of Anna in the last days of fast can be very easily identified and analyzed without much of an effort. So also some politicians form either side of the great divide have made statements and showed their presence in support of the anti corruption crusade of Anna but we all know why, elections are just round the corner. Anna being a simple man with a simple mind could be vulnerable to manipulations from our highly skillful manipulators in all forms and colours and I only hope Anna and his henchmen and women are wise and cautious enough to identify the hyenas on the prowl in their midst. If the Bill has to be a success we will have to be vigilant and cover every loophole that may allow corruption to proliferate under it’s very nose and eyes undetected and above all, to facilitate the effectiveness of this Bill we ourselves will have to say no to corruption and become incorruptible, but even then the monumental question that perturbs me most is, will the Jan Lokpal Bill be the one Bill army, a solution to all our myriad problems ? With this bill, will we be able to say sayonara to corruption forever ? Freddy Agnelo Fernandes

[Goanet] Advertisement By Dubai Goans
Advertisement By Dubai Goans The advertisement on Herald dated 15th June’11 by a group of so called Dubai Goans has created a flutter all over Dubai. I begin to wonder if this Dubai Goans body is a joke or a secession of the elite. I myself was taken back reading the crap that was mentioned in the advertisement. It potentially shows the degrading mentality of a few bootlickers who are forever under obligation or look forward to being under obligation to our corrupt politicians. Now this particular advertisement has put forth two theories, one, it’s the bootlickers who are glorifying these corrupt politicians or second, the politicians sanctifying themselves and both very much possible, as from past experience there isn’t shortage of bootlickers in Dubai, infact they are in abundance, where these “abstract notions” are made chief guests, sponsors and even interviewed for their benefit. When ever these guys come to Dubai you’ll always find the ample stooges falling all over themselves to be of service to these corrupt inapt politicians. As for glorifying themselves, it’s been running in their veins for decades and today it has embalmed in their genes too. I was more than shocked with the contents of the advertisement, my sympathies with them for they do not know what they are doing or saying . What I cannot understand is when was this Dubai Goans body formed and how and when were these honoraries elected ? Most of the Goans I know residing in Dubai do not have any idea about the existence of this body, leave alone the luminaries. It is indeed confusing but then it’s nothing new as most of what’s happening with Dubai Goans has always been confusing ! Isn’t that right ? Freddy Agnelo Fernandes
[Goanet] Que Sera Sera
their inalienable greed for the need of power and fortune, which has infact forced disenchantment amongst the ordinary people everywhere, with the processes of our pathetic system of governance but it is still “que sera, sera”. We are all aware, that this breed, of corrupt politicians, lack the courage and conviction to do good for their land and it’s people, we also know that they cleverly and inevitably recalibrate their lives and tunes to suite their agendas, turning adversity into advantage and comrades into adversaries, without even bothering to contemplate the quantum of damage, cynically twisting facts and figures to woo and enhance their own reputation and their ill-gotten wealth and yet when by chance some poor innocent soul slips and falls flat on his face, they are the first in the retribution queue. So far none of our inept incumbent administrations or politicians have shown any allegiance to peoples causes nor the capacity to articulate and enact peoples governance, nor have they done anything to douse that flames of discontentment, anguish and insecurity of the Aam Aadmi, even then its “que sera, sera.” Our politician’s antagonistic embrace just before elections should not be misinterpreted but should be identified with the devious embrace of Judas at Gethsemane. Let's not delude ourselves with their generosity when they throw a few favours or pieces of silver our way. We should take cognizance of Goa’s and Goans wellbeing, which infact should be our priority. Goa’s issues today are poignant and if we truly love Goa as we claim, let’s show objectivity and shun all prejudices and not get carried away by euphoric upswing that follow minor gains, let’s all strive for total and overwhelming victories that will put an end to corruption, nepotism, crime and stagnant governance in Goa, once and for all, by electing people who will work in earnest to protect the interests of Goa and Goans. Let’s all show a worthy sense of decorum and commitment for a foreseeable progressive change in the near future and do away with our subversive and destructive “susegadh” attitude of “que sera, sera”. God bless Goans. Freddy Agnelo Fernandes

[Goanet] Fear Psychosis
Goa’s Fear Psychosis The dreams and designs of the Marathi protagonists were defeated a long time ago, but today after years in hibernation and with the victory of the parents in the MOI issue, they have suddenly woken up to the reality that with grants for English medium, Marathi would be obsolete in Goa in the years to come and now in the name of protecting Konkani, are now trying their level best to protect Marathi. Konkani survived over 450 years of Portuguese rule and around two decades of Marathi protagonists’ rule and, will not die even if English is made the MOI. Right to the medium of instruction is the prerogative of the parents and it should not be politicized. The government has only approved grants for English medium which is a fundamental right of choice of the parents. Konkani and Marathi schools have not been forcefully closed down. The people who oppose grants to English medium schools are free not send their children or grand children or even great grandchildren to Konkani or Marathi Medium schools, it will be their choice and nobody can force it on to them. After the Bali violence where the law order machinery was found missing during action, people have lost faith in the civil services and hence refrained from sending their children to school, though a lot of schools remained open especially in south Goa. In some places the hired goons of the BBSM forcefully stopped buses and damaged them and even went to the extent of taking the students back to their homes. Is this democracy, where people are forced to do something that they do not want to do and call it success ? This is infact anarchy and dictatorship and certainly not democracy. The opportunists Marathi protagonists may think the bundh was a success but analysis will show the result was due to the fear psychosis of Goans and not as support against English as a medium of instruction. With the fear psychosis, we Goans have invited trouble in tons on ourselves because from here on this radical right wing BBSM will wield violence and hold us to ransom taking advantage of our fear psychosis, so it is of utmost importance that we carry on our fight without fear in what we believe is right. Whatever the problem is, violence and bundhs are not the solution, it’s the only way for anti social elements and miscreants to spread a reign of terror to generate fear psychosis and push forth their own agendas. The efficiency and the ingenuity of a government is measured by the way it handles chaotic situations or nips such situations at the bud by preventive measures, but the apathy of our government to handle such chaotic situations or prevent such situations was evident by their inaptness and their lack of fore sight, as two young men lost their lives at Bali and a good number of buses and other modes of transport damaged in the latest situation. The laid back attitude of our CM is a curse on Goans, as he lets things happen and then cool down, before he thinks it’s prudent to act. How can a person with such irrational philosophy be the CM of Goa ? Wake up Goa, get rid of the fear psychosis, throw these scumbags out and show that Goa and Goans are rational people Freddy Agnelo Fernandes
[Goanet] MOI Credit Should Go Only To The Parents
MOI Credit Should Go Only To The Parents In my young days I was told, the Cuckoo was a very devious bird, that it does not incubate it’s own eggs but conveniently destroys the crow’s eggs and leave it’s own eggs in the crow’s nest, and the crow without knowing rears Cuckoos, is this ingenuity or just plain natures progression ? Who will be the judge ? Perhaps the Ornithologists could tell us ! In Goa a distinct similarity to the Cuckoo’s deceit and ingenuity is observed. A few weeks ago the local dailies in Goa were full of congratulatory messages, congratulating our ever conniving politicians for the success of the Medium of Instruction movement for grants to English medium Schools. A battle started, fought and won by the parents. Most of these congratulatory messages were dedicated to our flamboyant Benaulim and Navelim MLA’s, ironically both uneducated. I wonder if even half of those who congratulated the MLA’s were parents of affected students, we have lots of chamchas who like to appease their demigods for favours in cash and kind. If these useless politicians were responsible for the victory, why did the people have to take to the streets ? In Goa has any problem of the people been solved without the people taking to the streets ? The efficiency of the governances is evident when the problems of the people are solved without bringing the people to the streets, this has been very much lacking in Goa for a long time now. Our politicians are very good in taking credit when it’s not theirs for the taking. My humble prayer to all Goans, please do let these conniving politicians use us to rear their credit, like the deceitful cuckoo. Let’s give credit where it is due and the credit for the success of the MOI movement goes only to the parents and not to anyone else. Freddy Agnelo Fernandes
[Goanet] Mapusa Floodig again - Lessons not learnt
Hi All, Was forced to go from Calangute to Mapusa to buy some medicine this afternoon (1.30PM to be precise). It had just rained a bit since this morning and it was raining, not heavy at all, while I was driving. Reaching Bodgeshwar Temple, rain water was already flowing over the road there while the underpass for the water was totally clogged with rubbish. What a sight!!! Mapusa Market??? Couldn't get to the line of shops without having to jump from the road onto the walkway. Heavily flooded. Some shops are already getting set to have water upto their doorstep. Didn't get into the fruit market, mucky and flooded already. This is just the first day with a couple of hours of rain. What is to come during the forthcoming months of monsoon is predictable. Our Mapusa Municipal Lords have their shops there, they can see what is happenning, but cannot do anything and surely will not do anything even if they can. So sad is the story of Goa, better kept unwritten for shameful reasons. Time spent in getting organized for bunds related to MoI, etc could be better spent across the table devising ways to solve day to day problems and getting ready for the rains, but no, election is closing in on us... God Save Goa Agnelo Fernandes
[Goanet] EKVAT - Cultural Program at KA
Folks, The Cultural programme by The Goan Diaspora Cultural Group - EKVAT at the KA in Panjim this evening was very entertaining in that it was all about Goan folk songs and dances - mando, dheknis, dulpods, etc. The dances were well choreographed to the traditional Goan music played on guitar, violins, flute and a ghumot. Beautiful to the ear and very entertaining. I was a late entry, but the organizers graciously gave me a pass. It was announced that the elders of group visited Goa earlier, but it was the first time for the youngsters - the dancers. They carry the Goan culture along with the elders very ably although they are born and brought up in Portugal. While in the hall, I was just wondering if they had any problem presenting Goan culture so beautifully and artistically when their MoI in Portugal would be Portuguese??? Long live communal and linguistic harmony in Goa. Cheers Agnelo Fernandes
[Goanet] Politicians Misleading People
It’s been a week since Goa witnessed the darkest day in it’s history, a supposedly peaceful rally turned into a war zone where two vibrant young men lost their lives. In a week that followed, we saw one aging bureaucrat knocked off his perch and assurances that the guilty will be punished. Assurances from politicians and more so from the CM do not mean anything to Goans nor do they trill Goans anymore. We can only hope that some day the guilty will be convicted, but looking at the track record of the Goan administration, it looks highly unlikely but still we can only hope and pray. It is about 65 years since India gained it’s freedom from the British and about 50 years since Goa’s so called liberation but still we have not freed ourselves of the “taboos” of caste, creed and religious fundamentalism. It makes me wonder if we will ever be able to get rid of these social stigmas and dogmas. All over the world people have gained equality in all spheres of life, so much so that even the much prevailing gender biases have been wiped off in most western and eastern countries, but in India we are totally in a deferent time zone, even today we are fighting hard to be declared unprivileged or underprivileged so that we can take advantage of the pathetic draconian system that is more apartheid than what prevailed in South Africa. Prakash Velip’s bio-data is really impressive, from a panch to educationist to MLA to minister to chairman of a whole lot of bodies and institutions. It’s amazing what this person has achieved with his sheer dedication and hard work and today he is fighting for the cause of his fellow underprivileged tribal brethren, demanding more representation, better education, more jobs and better social privileges for his people. All fair demands for the downtrodden but what really astonishes me is, what can Prakash Velip achieve now, when he is no more in power, that he could not achieve when he was a power house, during the MGP and the BJP rule, he was a member of the ruling party for three to four terms ? He was a minister and he was and is the president of the underprivileged community body. Couldn’t he have done all this when he was in power but why now ? Now with the elections round the corner every aspiring and out of power veteran politician will be pumping and thumping, instigating the poor and the gullible Goans, misguiding them to further their own personal agendas. The two youngsters have been sacrificed in a political game. In all probability it looks like the two youngsters being activists were targeted and attacked when an opportunity was created or provided at the rally, as both were also anti mining activists. A lot of people from that area are involved in mining directly or indirectly. The tribal people have lost to young vibrant men and at what cost ? Goa prides it’s self of being one of the most tolerant and literate state in India, but we fail to justify that claim as we have fallen prey to our manipulative conniving politicians communal agendas and sold our precious votes to hoodlums, gangsters, drug dealers, molesters, murders and “scamsters” who have destroyed Goa for personal gains. I pray to every Goan, literate or otherwise, please do not fall prey to the gruesome agendas of our corrupt conniving politicians, present or ex, let us value our lives and not let these loathsome politicians use us to further their own repressive agendas. Let not our greed sacrifice our wisdom and our heart at the alter of the ballot. There is absolutely no difference between wisdom and folly, if it’s not utilized befittingly for the good of our land and our fellow brethren. It is said that God helps those who help themselves, if not we are a lost cause. Let’s use our wisdom and elect worthy people in future. God bless Goa Freddy Agnelo Fernandes
[Goanet] The Ghosts Of Food Park Up's The Ante At Canaguinim
The Ghosts Of Food Park Up's The Ante At Canaguinim We have learnt in schools that India is the world largest democracy and Goa being an integral part of it, by default becomes a part of that democracy. To a lay person the definition of democracy means “peoples rule for the people” and it is up to the people to decide their future. Democracy by law and definition gives us that right but sadly the rights of the people are hijacked and the rule of the jungle which is “might is right”, is forced on the people by our rich and the affluent helped by our political and security institutions for personal gains. The history of this sordid saga and the nightmare called the Food Park, started with SEZ, when lakhs of square meters of land was acquired on the pretence of development to further their own agendas, but the total people’s opposition to SEZ delivered a telling blow to the personal agendas of our political and bureaucratic babus, so thus the reincarnation to IDZ, Industrial Development Zone. Purely a change of name but the game still remains the same. With the plight of the villagers of Naqueri, Quitol, Betul and Canaguinim, where water is a scarcity, electricity pathetic and not enough land for the ever expanding families, moreover with agricultural land being acquired farmers forced out of farming, the people had no alternative but to revolt and for a brief period everyone thought, the local MLA Chandrakant Kavlekar would see the truth but now it looks like he has misplaced priorities. Our Politicians are known to play their political cards well, some years ago the former Canacona MLA and Minister from Agonda Sanjay Bandekar had built a cross near his house to woe Catholics but Kavlekar has gone further and has built a new Temple with road access at the disputed site. Hope the people realize that God does not live in structures but in the hearts of the people and the welfare of the people should be their prime concern. A total of 13 lakh sqmeters of land was acquired for the Food Park and the Auxiliary services where as 10.24 lakh sq mtrs land was acquired for ONGC. Now, how can the government just go on acquiring so much land in one revenue village, when land for the expanding families is scarce ? Basically the people of that area depend on farming and fishing for their survival, with the acquisition of fields, farming has been affected and to make matters worse, the fishing activities in the area will be hit as a result of Marinas at Canaguinim. When people had objected the land acquisition for ONGC, they were promised prime jobs but over twenty years I haven’t seen any Goan, leave alone a local at ONGC. Despite numerous representations by the locals, no white collar jobs were given for the locals. With both the main occupations, farming and fishing being hit, what are the locals suppose to do ? It’s a real pity that the elected members of the Panchayat have been bought by Kavlekar to further his own agendas but the people are very much active and oppose the project in any and every “avtar”, SEZ or IDZ or Food Park. The people of Nuem fully support the cause of the Canaguinim, Naqueri, Quitol and Betul people. May the wishes and the will of the people prevail and democracy survive this murderous attempt by their very own elected representative. Long live democracy. Freddy Agnelo Fernandes

[Goanet] Is Life In Goa Cheaper Than Liquor
Is Life In Goa Cheaper Than Liquor ? “Women are cheaper than liquor in Goa” was what irked a good number of Goans, with respect to the Bollywood movie “Dum Maro Dum” and with some stiff local opposition the director was forced to instill some changes in the derogatory remarks about our Goan women, but now another serious problem has cropped up with regards to the value of life in Goa and it makes me wonder if in fact, life is even cheaper than liquor in Goa. Roads in Goa have been major contributors to premature deaths and loss of valuable lives through the negligence and apathy of our Miners and Authorities, more often than not the victims are found to be budding youngsters, a few days ago another youngster’s budding life and dreams where shattered by the negligence of the power department, this was not the only incident where the negligence of the authorities resulted in precious life being wasted prematurely, not too long ago a father son duo were electrocuted and the list could go on and on. Life lost, is lost forever and no matter what is done to compensate the dead person will not come back to life. Of late the money bags, our Miners have started putting a value to the life of the victim of mining prosperity, I often wonder if they would value their own lives the same. I am not at all shocked to note that a high ranking officer of the law and his deputy performed their dual role of also being the “call on boys” for the mining barons, to perfection. With all their prosperity, it’s sort of becoming a norm to flash money infront of the poor victim’s dependents in the name of compensation. The speed with which the Miners and their foot soldiers, inspector Tony and his deputy reacted is really amazing, as the lethargy and the apathy of our civil servants for effective action, is well known. How would the miners and their police friends feel, if someone had to kill their next of kin and pay a compensation of 5 lakhs ? Would it be okay ? With the cost of living hitting the roof, for how long can a family survive and suffice on that amount ? The social status of the victim is irrelevant, what must be made relevant is the fact that life has been wrongfully terminated, all because of the casual attitude of the Miners, Politicians and the Police, if laws were enforced and enacted the situation would not been appalling, as it is today. Today every politician irrespective of the party has supported illegal and rampant mining which has destroyed our ecology and our environment and brought us to the verge of a catastrophe, all this merely for money and riches. What action has been taken against the erring miners and the Authorities ? Is it not their responsibility ? The offending Authorities, miners and their henchmen have been let off, without as much as a scratch in the past, which has resulted in a massive movement against mining atrocities on Goans living in hinterland, especially against the tribal community. Now as the mines affected people are gathering enormous and overwhelming support in their fight for survival, the mining barons are pushed against the wall and hence the 5 lakhs compensation at supersonic speed to the victims family and that to through the high ranking civil servants who are forever ready to be of service to the rich and affluent miners. If a normal Goan is faced with problems the men in uniform will distance themselves as much as possible and infact if the rich and the affluent are involved, more often than not, the victim ends being treated as a criminal, this has been the way of life in Goa for a long time and getting worse by the day. Now with the people’s movement against rampant and illegal mining activities, the police and the miners think it prudent to outrun and outgun the activists and the agitators with money and muscles power making life in Goa cheaper than liquor. How many more lives will have to be lost to the erring negligence of our Authorities and miners before we Goans wakeup to find, the one who just lost his budding life, is our very own and accept the check that values the precious life at 5 lakhs, wouldn’t we then feel, that life is cheaper than liquor in Goa ? Wakeup Goans, our lives are precious and valuable and we have to make sure that the people responsible for negligence, who ever they are, are taken to task and pay dearly so that justice is served. Freddy Agnelo Fernandes
[Goanet] Cowardly Attack On Nilesh Gaonkar
Cowardly Attack On Nilesh Gaonkar The attack on anti-mining activist Nilesh Gaonkar is a cowardly act and a blow to the democratic norms of the Country. I do strongly condemn this atrocious act of inhumanity against a law abiding citizen who has put his life on line for the welfare of the people of Cavrem, who have been subjected and forced to live in harmful and detrimental conditions perpetuated by the mining fraternity. This is not the first time that the mining barons have used anti social elements to try to subdue and silence the opposition in to submission, all credit must be given to this young lad who single handedly led the people of Cavrem and forced the government to shut down the illegal mine in operation and is still fighting against the ills of mining in and around his village and there is absolutely no doubt as to who is behind this attack on young Nilesh Gaonkar. The illegal mine has been shut but why is the culprit who operated the mine not taken to task ? Not so long ago there was another incident when an eighty year old lady and her grand daughter were assaulted by the police for fighting against the mining menace. Seby another anti-mining activist was labeled a naxalite by our elected members. Goans living in hinterland have been subjected to inhuman living conditions and atrocities and more often than not money and muscle power has been used to unleash terror through both goons and the police against those opposing the mining fraternity and now young Nilesh Goankar has become the latest casualty. This barbarous act has in no way deemed the spirit of Nilesh Gaonkar and the other activists on the contrary they have claimed that this attack has given them the additional impetus and have courageously vowed to carry on their fight for justice for the mines affected people of Goa. Today’s news papers carries a headline “Goa Mineral Ore Exporters Association (GMOEA) has condemned attack on tribal leader Nilesh Gaonkar”. It exposes the duplicitous mining fraternity as they try to pull wool over the people’s eyes to misguide them to hide their own inhuman and heartless act. The IGP of Goa has promised to apprehend the culprits, but like all other promises will we ever get to know who was behind this attack on Nilesh Gaonkar ? History has never been in favour of the innocent victims, victimized by the rich, powerful and the affluent and it seem in all probability that history is going to repeat itself. The law and order situation is getting worse by the day in Goa and the Aam Aadmi is feeling more and more insecure with each passing day and any assertions by the IGP and our politicians will not change this fact and if things do not change for the better I wont be surprised if some Goans start taking the law into their own hands and when it happens the law and order machinery will be solely responsible for any such unhealthy situation. [Goanet] The Curse of Colvale
In response to: Message: 9 Date: Sat, 26 Feb 2011 11:26:00 -0500 From: Wendell Rodricks wendellrodri...@gmail.com Subject: [Goanet] StyleSpeak: The Curse of Colvale Mon ami Wendell, It is indeed a sad story that we hear day in and day out through the entire length and breadth of Goa, development and commercialism has taken away the age old or better still the centuries old peace, tranquility and even our fortitude. Goa is being projected as the unconquered land of sleaze, rave and drugs, where booze is as cheap as the women and law an object of abject depraved apathy and scorn. It is this projection that attracts all the undesirables to Goa. As you said it is true e that even if there are more viable options, the traffic too, unnecessarily and unceremoniously diverts through Goa as a result of which our villages have not just lost their peace and tranquility but also a good number of innocent lives. The truck drivers from north on the way south and vice versa, don’t like to miss the opportunity of a rendezvous with Goa to quench their insatiable thirst along the highway bars and carry some on their forward journey, with no fear of the Goan police nor of the check post authorities. Where, even a ten rupee note does the trick. Before we had the road most people of Goa had not heard about Cabo-de-Rama, Nuem and Canaguinim but now they are in the news for all the wrong reasons, and to top it all there were strong rumours that our government was hatching on an idea to privatize the Cabo-de-Rama fort, it was the unity and the efforts of the locals that raised up a strong opposition to the unhealthy issue and for the time being it’s lying dormant but we are ready for it’s eruption, We don’t intend to be pawns on the chess board of our corrupt government. If there is unity among the villagers, government can be hog-tied but unfortunately it is because of the apathy of the people that our corrupt government more often than not rides the rough sod over us. It’s high time people of Goa woke up to their own plight. Freddy Agnelo Fernandes
[Goanet] Returning to Goa....
Dears, After many years working out of Goa, plans are afoot to return to Goa for good. But not one to sit in retirement at just a little over 50, trying to find a position to keep busy - office administrative/personnel, housekeeping/maintenance, and moreover get into the music scene - yes a good vocalist having been in a band from the 70s-80s. Could agree to invest some in equipment too. Responses / advice welcome soonest. June 2011 it is. Cheers for Goa and Goans Agnelo Fernandes fernandes...@yahoo.co.in

[Goanet] Calangute And Anjuna, Epicentres Of Drugs And Prostitution
Calangute And Anjuna, Epicentres Of Drugs And Prostitution The “jugalbandi” between Agnelo Fernandes, MLA of Calangute, on one side and the PSI Mangunath Dessai and Ex Sarpanch Joseph Sequeira on the other, looks to be straight from a Bollywood movie. For all that matters I would say, the devil should be given his due. It’s a bold step that Agnelo has taken, whatever the reasons or the timing, those can be debated at convenience. In Goa until and unless noise in made and that too much beyond the allowed decibels only then issues seem to stand out like sore eyes at the Sunday service. For the time being I would say well done Agnelo. Though late, even then, he has shown guts to take such a stand, that could hurt a few collogues and the authorities in the political hierocracy and could also backfire on himself. What ever said and done, there is no denying that north Goa has been and still is the hub for drugs, and prostitution in Goa, unfortunately Calangute and Anjuna the twin epicenters, anyone who denies it, must be an idiot or a fool or somehow even involved in it. This menace is not new but has only magnified in leaps and bounds under the very patronage of our political and security system. A mole, generously allowed to turn in to an almighty Everest by our very own. The Home Minister today stated that drugs prospered during the BJP rule, who himself was a part of that very same legacy and if our home minister knew that drugs prospered then, why did he say that there were no drugs in Goa ? Is the home minister a victim of Alzheimer, or a victim of his own contrived fallacies ? Mr. Sequeira also highlighted the involvement of political powers that become a hindrance to the effectiveness of our security services, which is also a well known fact, but should not be an excuse for submission. The effectiveness of the security services is in their own hands, if they have their own deprived agendas, rather than ethics or principles, they will certainly be manipulated and hence we have had some very unpleasant and unethical episodes unfolding which have smudged the reputation of Goa and Goans world wide. With all that’s happening within the security services in Goa PSI Manjunath Dessai’s denial looks more like a silly ploy to impress the public, it certainly lacks conviction and credibility as well, it looks more like a feeble futile effort to free himself from the powerful jaws of a “bull terrier”, that they have unleashed on themselves. The bad blood between the Ex-Sarpanch and the present MLA is no secret, so it is amply evident that Mr. Sequeira is trying to arouse the sentiments of the local Calangute residents with the tag line “only trying to give a bad name to Calangute”, the political motivation can be seen like the Burj Khalifa Tower in Dubai, from a good distance. If Sequeira knew of the illicit activities prevailing, why did he not highlight them in the first place ? As I said earlier, it is indeed late but none the less, instead of going into a denial mode and the blame game, the authorities, that includes new and the old administrators should accept the fact that, yes, the beauty of Goa, more so of the north, has indeed been ravaged, modesty shredded and left exposed for all the degenerates to enthrall themselves and work hard to take preventive measures to curtail and control, if not stop, this escalating epidemic before it destroys our youth and our future. I hope like Agnelo, other members of the power brigade take a stand and do the needful to highlight the plight of Goa and Goans. Freddy Agnelo Fernandes

Re: [Goanet] a/c hacked ? distress call from Spain
Dear Ignatius This is a very common problem today, this happens due to a un-updated or weak antivirus and security software. There is so much malware created by the minute that it is very important to keep your security software up-to-date by the hour. If you hotmail account is hacked, DO NOT TRY to change the password or access the account from your same computer. Do it from another CLEAN computer and there is chance for you to regain access. I know its a tough experience to get hotmail help you with this request as hotmail does not offer support as its a FREE service. One of the biggest possibility of getting infected is through links on social websites such as Facebook. We receive plenty of complaints on a daily basis reporting such issues. So never click on links on social websites even if it is from your friends as those infected links could have been posted through one of your friends infected computer. Lets not forget that old saying Prevention is better than cure Best Wishes Agnelo Date: Tue, 25 Jan 2011 09:29:41 + From: igg...@yahoo.co.uk To: goa...@goanet.org Subject: [Goanet] a/c hacked ? distress call from Spain I too was a victim of e-mail hacking in early December 2010 I could not enter my domain someone in West Africa hacked into my e-mail address iggy.fernan...@hotmail.co.uk. [Goanet] The Chaka Chak Campaign
The Chaka Chak Campaign My hearty congratulations to the NGO’s and the village Panchayats for initiating the “chaka chak” campaign in Goa. A lot of us forget our civic sense more often than not and contribute to the decay and the degeneration around, which finally spews micro organisms that infect people with a good many illnesses and diseases that can often be fatal. Apart from ill health it also affects our ecology and environment which in the end affects all humans and animals as well. Awareness campaign can be a booster or a catalyst for some of the people who have some how lost their civic sense and brings them back to the reality, while it enlightens the ignorant who take everything for granted and least worried of the repercussions of their negligence and their apathy. It has to be drawn on the public at large, the degenerating effect of our apathy and our inaction in keeping our surroundings and neighbourhoods clean and hygienic. I hope the “chaka chak” campaign will invigorate and ignite in us, the civic sense that should have been inborn because of our literacy and our culture. As the “chaka chak” campaign takes off on the Republic Day, I hope and pray that all Goans will be entrenched with the civic sense that we Goans will be proud of. Along with our streets and neighbourhoods, I hope we Goans will enhance our civic sense by fumigating the entire establishment called the Vidhan Sabha, clearing all the dirt and filth that’s embodied and personified there in, at the next Assembly election. Only then, we could be proud of our remarkable civic sense. Freddy Agnelo Fernandes
[Goanet] Village Groups Should Remain United
Village Groups Should Remain United It is heartening to see a sense of unity amongst the different groups fighting the extremely unhealthy and unproductive governance of the present regime, the different village groups coming together to protest against the failure of the Kamat government to adhere to the recommendations of the people through the tedious people’s participation process. I laud Adv. Yatish Naik and other members of the groups for taking this initiative to highlight the contrived and malafide intent of our government, behind the baffling “inserts” in the RP2021. As per the RTI reply there were no recommendations made for the changes by any government departments, Panchayats nor by any private individuals or parties, so from where did the changes appear and why ? The Kamat government is compelled for an explanation, to the general public, as they, with great effort, dedication and sacrifices had minutely gone through the process of analyzing the anomalies in the RP2011 and asked for the rectification of those anomalies, that our conniving authorities had forced on to the general public. In the end, it looks like all that hard work and the efforts of the people were futile. The Kamat government certainly owes Goans an explanation. The FIR against the conspirators is certainly a step in the right direction for their involvement in the malicious plan and should be taken to task for their part in discarding the very objective of overseeing the entire process of people’s participation. This it’s self goes to show that the Kamat government had no desire to adhere to the wishes of the people and the entire process was a charade. Hope the momentum gathers speed and mass, against the evil designs of the Kamat government, sooner or later they will have to realize the futility of taking the general public for granted for too long and far too often. [Goanet] Let Tots Enjoy Their Infancy And Childhood
number of children who go from tuition to tuition straight from school, with just a bite of snack for lunch. When was the last time we saw our kids playing outdoors in the neighbourhood or in the streets ? I know our neighbourhoods and streets are not as safe as they use to once be, but even then, during the holidays too we fail to see children running around the neighbourhood. With the advance in science and technology our kids have become the victims of motor bikes, mobiles, computer games and social networking sites, some even have access to porn, that’s one reason obesity is very high among the kids today. Along with studies children have to play outdoors to improve their metabolism, flexibility, stamina, health and even concentration. We all know the value of education in today’s world and we are aware of the competition too that stands in front of them, even then let’s not sacrifice their infancy, childhood and their future for our own egos, status and comfort. Let the kids be kids and hold on to their innocence and playfulness for a little while longer, before we put on a harness on their very young and vulnerable shoulders. Let us for once, not let our kids be the early worms eaten away by the birds, the stress of life, but let them sleep till the birds have had their fill, so that when the time comes, they become the early birds to have the very best of life. [Goanet] Fwd: Brutality And Apathy Of Goa Police
Brutality And Apathy Of Goa Police Do the police and security services not know, that death in custody would bring about a lot of repercussions ? Yes they know, they know the Law inside out, but they fall prey to their own arrogance and high-handedness. To show the accused or the guilty who the master guardian is and how powerful he can be. A custodial death at once brings the onus on police brutality. The accused as well as the guilty and each and every one of us is equally protected by international laws called human right laws, even though criminals do not give a shit about their victims human rights. In truth, a lot of criminals today hide behind the human rights placard to save them selves from retribution. Goa has been having a fare share of increase in lawlessness for the past few years, even as news about the police-criminals-politician nexus is being unearthed, even more are exposed by the day and the apathy of the authorities is highlighted as no corrective action or remedial processes are put in place. Last one month or so the police have been running in circles to clean up their degraded image but to no success as more allegations of the police involvement in crime pop up, now to top it all, Goa has been shaken by police brutality leading to the death of Cipriano Fernandes in police custody. What was the dreadful crime that he had committed, that he had to be mercilessly beaten to death ? Cirpiano was not a known goonda, nor a drug dealer, nor a rapist, nor a murderer, nor a fraudster like some of our politicians, just because he had an altercation with his girlfriend, he, certainly did not deserve the treatment that was meted out to him by the police. Criminals should be apprehended and tried, not butchered. We all know that drug lords, criminals and fraudsters get the best of treatment from the police and politicians alike but one time offenders like Cipriano or even innocent guys get the worst from our Police. How many innocent Goans have been beaten up by the police on the behest of politicians, miners and builders ? It’s a pity that the very people who are appointed as guardians of the law become the perpetrators and the offenders. When they are inducted into the civil services they take an oath to uphold the law of the land and provide protection to the needy and the poor. How many of them stay faithful to that divine oath ? We need to change our system very badly. I am sure ever one is aware that entry into the civil services costs lakhs of rupees, so how else will they get back that money ? Hence they are forced to do the evil, for money they do anything and everything, even bashing up people to death, selling drugs and also let criminals disappear into thin air, if that is what is being asked of them by their financers. As Goa today is going gaga over the custodial death of Cipriano Fernandes, I would like to remind Goans that Cipriano is not the first victim of police brutality in Goa ? This incident only came to light because the relatives and friends along with the Media have forced this issue, and because of the involvement of the people and the media, the authorities are forced to act, we are not sure if justice will see day light, but it has opened the eyes of the public of what the police are capable of doing. Let us realize that there are lot more people who are victims of police brutality but somehow their voices do not reach the people or the media for reasons best know. Along with police brutality we have seen on a number of occasions how deaths through murders, drugs and rapes are declared natural deaths, how many people have gone missing and our police refuse to even register cases because of the bigwigs involvement in those crimes or the minuscule status of the victim. Our supreme constitution tells us that we are all equal and that justice would be delivered irrespective of status, wealth, religion, education, cast, creed or region. Do we see such justice in Goa ? In Goa the rich and the powerful are beyond the law, as we have witnessed on so many occasions. How many times have politicians and their family members made a mockery of the law with absurd manipulations and have got away with criminal acts ? Today there is nothing we can do for Cipriano in person accept ask, for justice and to punish the guilty, so that no one stays above the law or take law into their own hands. Let us strive to seek for justice not just for Cipriano but for all those who are deprived of justice by our corrupt and criminal system headed by our police and our politicians. I hope the Media will continue to be bold enough to take up such issues and expose the culprits who think they are above and beyond the law. Let the power of the people of Goa be known to one and all who thinks law and justice is a mere tool and a toy for them to play with. Freddy Agnelo Fernandes
[Goanet] CM Should Enact What He Preaches
CM Should Enact What He Preaches In Goa when the frogs start croaking on a large scale we know that rains have arrived in our homeland and the frogs get busy with their life cycle, after a few months of hibernation, the rural Goa is a witness to this yearly phenomenon. Similarly when we hear our Goan politicians go out of the way to say all the right things, we know that elections must be around the corner. On the eve of the 43rd year of the historic opinion polls, the master craftsman of amazing camouflages and disguises, our CM, Digambar Kamat urges Goans to safeguard and preserve our Goan Identity and goes on to give Goans, one command on which lies the basic fundamentals of our security, our dreams and our prized Goan identity, “Thou Shall Not Sell Goan Land”. After helping in the sale of most of Goa, our CM now pretends to be concerned about the land sale to outsiders. Vast stretches of Cummunidade lands have been sold to outsiders by our politicians, thank God that the Goan people revolted against SEZ and RP 2011 or else a lot more land would have had none Goan owners by now. The GDIC and the IDC are nothing but fronts for selling Goan land to outsiders their main agenda being real estate brokering. If CM Digambar Kamat was interested in saving Goan land for posterity, why is the 73rd and 74th amendment still in limbo ? When all over Goa, our Gram Sabhas are fighting against mega housing, why is the CM and his cohorts not supporting the people ? Why are the TPC and the Director of Panchayat working against the will of the people ? If CM is interested in saving Goa’s land why are he and his comrades encouraging illegal migrant colonies and shanties all over Goa and trying to legalise them ? CM Digambar Kamat has clearly told Goans that he does not require our votes, as he is sure that the people whom he has given Goan land and jobs in Goa will certainly vote for him. So he does not really care about what happens to Goa and Goans as long he has an unerring and strong vote bank at his disposal. CM Digambar Kamat being the minister for TPC, could easily have protected our land and preserved it for posterity, but unfortunately there are very few ministries which are as resourceful as the TPC. CM being in real estate business logically should not have held the TPC ministry as it garners a conflict of interest, but in Goa nothing ever is logical. The CM instead of lip service should put into action what he preaches. Freddy Agnelo Fernandes
[Goanet] Fwd: 43 Years After The Opinion Poll
43 Years After The Opinion Poll 16th January 1967 was a dawn of a new era for Goans all over the world, it enhanced our dreams that were ignited by the end of the Salazar era, the day of exuberance when finally we Goans put an end to the depraved infatuation of the pro Maharashtra lobby within the Goan borders, sons of the soil turned traitors for a few pieces of silver. The struggle enforced by the proud son of the soil Dr Jack de Sequeira, under whose stewardship we safeguarded, what we call our prized Goan Identity, if not we might have been residents of some remote coast of western Maharashtra. We have to be thankful to Dr. Jack de Sequeira and his erstwhile comrades for protecting our most cherished procession, our unique Goan Identity. In 1961 it was the fight of the united Goa that paved the way for the so called liberation, only to fall prey to the pseudo secular, pseudo democratic and corrupt ideologies of the Indian Union. In 1967 it was a literary a civil war in Goa, Goans fighting against their very own, one to safeguard it’s integrity, while the other, traitors trying to sell the mother for personal gains. In the end the power and the will of the people prevailed through sheer determination. Forty three years down the line and we are still fighting demons within the Goan borders and now it’s again the turn of the very sons of the soil, who are trying to tear their mother apart in the name of religion and language. What an ugly situation ? The erstwhile former leaders must be rolling in their graves, trying to figure out why on earth, have their sacrifices been in vain ? Once again it is the politicians, the very people who were elected to safeguard Goa and Goans, who are the culprits, continuing to fool Goans, dividing it’s people for personal gains. When the Indian Union was formed at the end of the British rule all the princely states and regions were divided on the basis of language and culture that was shared by the majority of the people in that particular area and as such in 1961 Nerhu at the time of annexation of Goa into the Indian Union, Goans were promised that their culture and their language would be safe guarded through the special status for Goa, the promises that the Delhi babus have continently and conspicuously forgotten. The very essence and the fervor of the opinion poll was to safe guard our unique Goan Identity. Which now is being diluted with the influx of migrants from all over India, I agree that being Indians anyone and everyone is entitled to settle any where in India, the right given by the Constitution of India, but unfortunately Goa was neither a part to the Constitution nor a member of the Indian Union when it was drafted. Due to the small geographical size of Goa, precautions should have been taken by Delhi and our own Politicians that our own culture and our Identity does not get overwhelmed by the larger cultures and other parts of the Indian union. In 1985 when pro Marathi activists reared their ugly head once again, the pro Konkani movement gathered momentum under the able leadership of the Konkani Pojecho Awaz (KPA), but then in 1986 December only when the wave of the Konkani movement turned into a tsunami and the loss of seven innocent lives, our politicians were once again forced to accept the will of the people, as Konkani was made the official language of Goa on 4th February 1987 soon after which Goa got statehood on 30th May 1987. Konkani then found a place in 8th schedule of the Indian Constitution, five years later on 20th August 1992. Our politicians conniving as usual though made Konkani the official language, left a back door open for Marathi to weave it’s way in, any time in the future and till today there is the evil of suspicion making it presence felt every single day in the lives of Goans. Today, as we Goans are on the verge of becoming a minority in our own land, our politicians are playing the dirty card called vote bank politics as migrants are brought in hoards and given the right to overwhelm the Goan voting public as a result of which illegal migrant colonies and shanties have changed the landscapes of a good number of places, which stand out like sore eyes and also emit and harbor crime and criminals, a perfect breading ground for anti social elements. Forty three years down the line and we Goans are still insecure in our own land as once again our inapt politicians are hell bent on leather to feed the fruits of the historic opinion poll to the outsiders for their own personal gains. Was this the vision we had forty three years ago ? Was this what we wanted as the stepping stone into the 21st century ? Was this the Goa we all wanted ? If yes, then we have got what we deserved, and the opinion poll had no meaning what so ever, but if not, what do we intend to do about it ? The ball is in our court ? It’s each one’s Call ! Freddy Agnelo Fernandes
[Goanet] Tremors Just A Passing Phenomenon Says Mamlatdar
Tremors Just A Passing Phenomenon Says Mamlatdar Tremors which evolved from the mining areas of Sanguem were felt as far as Sanvordem and beyond and all that the pawn of the miners and politicians, called Mamlatdar of Sanguem had to say was, “it was just a passing phenomenon”. The word “phenomenon” means an unusual, significant circumstance or an unaccountable fact or occurrence that is perceptible or detected by our senses, it also means a remarkable or an outstanding person; a paragon. The Mamlatdar himself said that it was a phenomenon, so it becomes an unusual fact and unusual facts need to be intensely investigated. The scientist feel that large scale mining creates vacuum in the earth which further weakens the ground layers and hence has a considerable impact on surrounding areas. This may not look serious but with the dam in close proximity with the mining hub, it could also be disastrous. Is the Mamlatdar expert enough or qualified enough to state that, there is nothing to worry about, without any concrete investigation ? The scientists say there is a distinct possibility that the tremors could have been a result of the large scale mining activity and the high intensity blasting done therein. If there is even the slightest of possibility that the ground layer could crumble then it not at all wise of the Mamlatdar to make such premature remarks or give some hollow assurances. The Selaulim Dam is the life line of South Goa and a huge part of south Goa could get washed away if the floor of the dam becomes unsteady, it is a serious matter for the welfare of the people living in and around affected parameter. Our Minister for Water Resources Filipe Neri Rodrigues claims that the dam is safe. Has any study been done to support his claim or both he and the Mamlatdar are saying things at the behest of their master, the mining fraternity, leaving Goans vulnerable to the wroth of nature ? The Authorities should be serious about the safety of the people first and not jump to wrong conclusions just because they profit from the mining activity. The lives of people should not be put to risk for personal gains. Open cast and illegal mining and high intensity blasting should be stopped at all costs As administrators and elected representatives of the people, they should do their best to protect and preserve the land and it’s people and in doing so they could indeed be the phenomenon’s, the remarkable persons; the paragons, themselves. Do it for Goa and Goans. Freddy Agnelo Fernandes
[Goanet] Bar Tainted Politicians
, the queen mother and the prince charming, in each others arms almost locked in a “lip lock”. The ex MLA from Agonda is become the shadow of the big king “Momo”, hoping for a ticket along with “Momo’s” daughter, it only goes to show the hollowness of their character, their impish political diktats and their well planned agendas. It will indeed be fun to watch the reaction of our politicians, if and when party tickets are denied to them and their family members. I am sure like the last elections, this time too there will be overnight divorces and remarriages or live in arrangements, made at the spur of the moment. Oh ! Goan politics stinks to kingdom come. It’s such a real pity that our Supreme Constitution is as porous as our national borders and these crooks taking advantages of the loopholes therein are making merry. It certainly looks like the Election Commission nor the Enforcement Directorate has the will, the inclination or the political power to tackle these rogue politicians and their parties and for this obvious reason, politics has ceased, to being community service and has infact become a means of self-service for our inapt corrupt politicians. In this age and era of extreme cynicism, I only hope and pray that some day in the near future, politics becomes a tool to restore hope and dignity of the Goan people. Freddy Agnelo Fernandes
[Goanet] Fwd: Long Live Rupam Pathak
Long Live Rupam Pathak Going through the news papers in the most recent past, the page dedicated to the Obituaries seem insignificant compared to the deaths through murders and accidents on the first two pages. The most resounding murder case in the past few days, has been the Purnia case, where a MLA was stabbed to death by a women, who had earlier accused him of rape and harassment. This is just one such sexual harassment case of the hundreds that our politicians are involved in, all the assemblies in India and even the Parliament is full of well known criminals, hiding behind the political clout, they carry out their criminal activities with impunity, and with the police and goons on their pay roles they have nothing to worry about. If the lawmakers themselves are lawless, then, even God may not be able to save our country. Soon after the incident the CM of Bihar increased the security cover for all the MLAs, so that they are protected from the very people who elected them. Isn’t it ironical ? When they come begging for votes, not much security is seen around but once elected they feel threatened by the very same people who elected them. If the politicians are honest, dedicated and working for the welfare of the people, why should they feel threatened ? I know, there may be occasions when genuine politicians could be targeted for being honest, as it does not serve the purpose of criminals, but that’s a rare occurrence, but then, are there any genuine politicians in India ? I am sure it will be like finding a needle in the haystack. It is only the corrupt, fraudulent and the selfish politicians, who have hurt the feelings of the people, and who have things to hide, feel threatened. That’s the case with all our politicians. It is their actions or their inactions that allures the wroth of the people on them and if they do not change their attitude it will not be long, before a lot more people take the law into their own hands, like Rupam Pathak of Bihar. In Goa, too, things are not any better, if not worse. Our Goan politicians to have irked Goans on a number of occasions, they have been fortunate that we Goans are basically peace loving people but I hope the scoundrels realize that there is a limit to everything, and rein in their horses before it’s too late, it would surely be a black day in Goa’s history when the Aam Aadmi will be forced to take upto violence to bring down to earth the very high flying politicos that, we ourselves had elected. Violence in every form should be condemned, but when justice becomes a toy and a tool in the hands of our corrupt politicians, judiciary and our equally corrupt security services, then violence is the only option left to the likes of Rupam Pathak. This should indeed be a lesson for all our corrupt politicians, not to take the Aam Aadmi for granted. Rupam Pathak was denied justice by the promoters of law and justice but attained justice for herself, I say long live Rupam Pathak ! Corrupt Goan politicians watch out and ponder over, there could also be some teed off Goan somewhere, who might try to attain justice for himself. Who knows ? There could be lots of them ! [Goanet] Fwd: Let Us Be The Change That We Want
and Goans is at stake, even if lessons continue to be lost on those with political planks in place of a brain, it is high time for us to get into the equation and sort out our internecine disputes and hinge on like stoic soldiers, prove our pedigree, getting our tone and tenor in sync with the needs for redemption, and let the veracity of our corporal presence be our quintessential, defining moment in saving Goa from our very own elected representatives. The time of elections will be the time for reflection, as to where we stand in our commitment to save Goa, our votes will the deciding factor, in the change that we look forward to. If we want to save Goa from the clutches of corruption, communalism and destruction, vote for a system that will protect Goa and Goans, a system that will provide constructive development, a system that will protect and enhance our fragile ecology and environment and above all a system that we Goans will be proud off. In the New Year, in Bapuji’s own words, let us be the change that we want. Both the involved in this fresh case of violence, are also the main accused in the swords case as well, and our Chief Minister has confirmed that both these groups are his supporters. Well, well, well, it’s crystal clear why these miscreants are still on the prowl in his very backyard, not that we didn’t know about it, but now it’s on record as it has come straight for the horse’s mouth. Chief Minister Digambar Kamat has always had a soft corner for the residents of Monti Dongor, Davorlim and Kharebandh needless to say, he cares more about them than the actual Goans, as he plays Godfather to his vote bank, that’s the reason these anti social elements are not scared of anyone, nor worried about the consequences. There is also a video in circulation with our CM having drinks with the accused at Monti Dongor. Our CM has been bending over backwards trying his best to get their illegal housing units legalized, whereas he has done absolutely nothing to protect the houses of coastal Goans who are having sleepless nights because of the CRZ nightmare. Our CM, not so long ago had told us that he did not need our votes, as he is sure he can win entirely with his vote bank politics. After the latest bout of violence, both, the police and our CM have assured that action against the accused will be taken as per the law, but correct me if I am wrong, was this not the same law that was around, at the time of all the flare-ups involving these same miscreants or the even the swords case ? So why was no action taken as per the same law, then ? Digambar Kamat further said that the previous flare-ups were not related to politics or elections, I wonder how he came to that awful conclusion, as it was very much evident, that it had everything to do with politics and elections, I am sure, as usual our CM has his own very personal reasons to say otherwise, to misguide Goans. Goa is fast catching up with lawless eastern frontier of India and the reason for this deterioration of law and order in Goa is totally because of our high and mighty politicians who want to play Godfathers to the antisocial elements, each and every politician has his own band of goons to take care of problems and problematic people and they are well protected by the law enforcement agencies. That is the main reason why these criminal and antisocial elements survive and thrive in Goa. Freddy Agnelo Fernandes

goes “set a thief to catch thief”, he is the right person to checkmate the big man, of all the people in Goa Churchill seems to be scared of only Mickey. Churchill’s obdurate stand against Mickey can never be on grounds of morality, nor because of his animosity. If Churchill was so disgusted with Mickey’s immorality as well his animosity he would have taken this stand long time ago that’s why I say there is lot more than meets the eye in Churchill’s obdurate stand against Mickey. In all the problems that are brewed up by our politicians, we Goans are the losers, as our hard earned money, the tax payers money, is spent on their trips and meetings, public money should be used for the welfare of the people and not wasted on the artificial crises created by the politicians for their own benefits. [Goanet] Layers Of Corruption
Layers Of Corruption http://blogs.timesofindia.indiatimes.com/Outraged/entry/layers-of-corruption Here is a nice and factual article on corruption in India which explains the periphery, the depth and the conduits of corruption rampaging India which is very much applicable to Goa, as Goa is already become a hub if not the pinnacle of corruption and fraud. About a year ago a clerk was caught, succumbing to corruption in Goa, it was all news about our governments efforts to do away with the monster of corruption but has anything happened in reality ? On that particular day I had written about how a herd of corrupt elephants are allowed to go on rampage whereas a corrupt fly is drowned in a cup of hot tea. Once in a long while some poor soul is made an example of but the elite are untouchable, the above article shows us why. I know Florian Bab has said a lot about the system, has a lot more to say too and I am sure he will continue saying it. What a pity ! Goa is not listening. [Goanet] Commitment To Eradicate
Commitment To Eradicate Ushering in the golden jubilee year of Goa’s so called liberation, Chief Minister Digambar Kamat on Sunday assured his government's commitment to the eradication of unemployment, poverty and illiteracy from the state. The words are “commitment to eradicate” which means, “will leave no stone unturned to exterminate or do away with completely”. A marvelous statement on a day, we are made to believe, we were liberated. Shouldn’t we Goans feel ecstatic and euphoric with this strong assurance from our Chief Minister ? May he be blessed in his mission “commitent to eradicate”. Hope Goa and Goans, live to see the day of true liberation ! Our Chief Minister, spoke of eradicating unemployment, poverty and illiteracy but can we in truth make this possible if corruption is not eradicated ? So having poverty, unemployment and illiteracy on the menu without the mention of corruption, it is not going to take the cart anywhere. With corruption we still remain stagnant and in this fast and liberal world stagnancy is death. Today what’s ailing Goa more than anything and everything is corruption, if corruption is marginalized Goa can be liberated from the sham that it is in. Corruption is the mother if not the father of all evils in Goa and so far our Chief Minister along with his entire gang of comrades in arms have survived and thrived only on corruption. Corruption is become a way of life, more than the means to survive. It is our politicians’ deeds and misdeeds that have brought us to this day and the state that we are in. Chief Minister Digambar Kamat’s audacious RP manipulations have again forced the people on to the streets and he has the audacity to call it anarchy. Instead, it is indeed high time that we introspected whether the Kamat Government is spewing democracy or anarchy as it fails to accept the will of the people, which undermines the very basic principles of democracy. Chief Minister further says that, in order to save Goa's environment, the government sent the draft RP2021 to the people and released two regional taluka plans (Canacona and Pernem) after consulting the people. What is the point of a public debate and discussions when they are not taken into account, as fraudulently more anomalies have been injected in the RP2021. The Chief Minister being the minister for mines has failed to stop illegal mining and punish those involved and yet he claims his will to save Goa’s environment, it stinks to kingdom come ! The Chief Minister also insures transparent governance in Goa, that will be the day when the dead will walk. Corruption and transparency are two parallel lines with no inclination of ever meeting, only one can survive. The present opaque governance can ill afford transparency at this point in time, as corruption has entrenched itself far and wide in the corridors of the present regime, as the entire process of wealth-generation among our politicians is centered on cronyism and corruption. Weed out corruption and the political elite will dry up in the sun. My humble prayers to the Chief Minister of Goa, Digambar Kamat, leave aside everything and root out corruption first and everything will fall into place by itself. Are you Game for that ? [Goanet] Land Is The Root Cause Of All The Problems In Goa
Land Is The Root Cause Of All The Problems In Goa On eve of the so called liberation of Goa, Chief Minister Digambar Kamat finally spoke the truth when he said land is the root cause of all the problems, both political and apolitical in Goa. Land is an asset that we Goans can ill afford to loose. Land is one commodity that once sold is gone forever. A number of Goans for short term gains have done away with the land that was handed down, through generations to them by their forefathers and for the time being, may not regret but there will come a time when posterity will curse their elders for their unforgivable actions. It is open secret that our politicians before announcing the Mopa project had purchased vast stretches of land around Mopa at throw away prices and now stand to make a whack once the project is forced onto the people of Goa. Huge areas of Cummunidade lands have changed hands via our politicians, SEZ is another classic example by which we Goans have been taken for a jolly good ride in the name of development. CRZ too has been used to curtail the free flowing coastal Goans and promote expansion of star hotels. Our politicians have made land their primary objective to climb the personal colossal financial pyramid. Chief Minister Digambar Kamat has also promised to make Goa a role model state in 50 years time, it’s been 50 years since the so called liberation, Goa is already famous, as one of the most corrupt state in India, courtesy our corrupt Goan politicians, where crime and criminals flourish with impunity, murderers and drug lords can come in and then disappear at will, law and order has been deteriorating by the day. Road accidents on the rise, water problems a galore, power failures, more often than not. It would indeed take some doing by Digu and the people to follow, to make Goa a model state. It’s not an impossible task with able dedicated people at the helm, but with Digu and Company Goa is only heading for the inevitable. So far in almost every land scams our politicians have been involved directly or indirectly they have had their hands in every land pie that’s baked in Goa, they just have a one point agenda to sell Goa to the highest bidder irrespective of the public outcry. Chief Minister’s chair is certainly a huge responsibility, that’s the reason we need a constructive mind with a constructive foresight to be on the chair, where the buck stops. So far none have shown the will nor the inclination to work for the betterment of Goa and Goans. Chief Minister Digambar Kamat has also initiated something called the draft vision 2035, which he says will be kept open for debate, hope it does not turn out to be like the two RP’s, so far, from what we have seen, Digambar’s vision, lacks vision, much to be desired, if not altogether despised, as it is detrimental to Goa and Goans. Goa’s woes and problems have been the handy work of our corrupt politicians and land has been the centrifugal force in the eye of the storm. Freddy Agnelo Fernandes
[Goanet] Minister Stresses On Ecological Balance

Online: http://goa1556.notlong.com --- Minister Stresses On Ecological Balance When Ghana and Germany faced off at the preliminary group league matches during this year’s world cup there was an uncanny situation as two half brothers were on opposite sides of the football field, yes I am talking about the Boateng brothers, both have the same Ghanaian born father, both born in Germany but pledged their loyalty to two different countries. A similar situation looks to be on, in the Goan political field, as the PWD Minister also holding the ministry for science and technology stressed on the need to maintain ecological balance in Goa. It is indeed a revelation of sorts that one of the member of the Kamat government is interested in our ecology, could it be a step in the right direction ? But the million dollar question is, is the minister for science and technology really serious about saving our ruined and shattered ecology ? I am forced to ask this question because like the Boateng brothers, it looks like the Alemao brothers too are on the opposite side of the ecological divide, one claiming his interests in saving our ecology, while the other is going full throttle and on rampage with his mining mission, mission impossible to stop IV, “Oh Goa, thy murder most foul”, obliterating Goa’s ecology. It surprised me though, that throughout his speech, the minister for science and technology was stressing on the need to cut down carbon emissions, yes impressed ! As among the blind a cockeyed could easily be a king, Who knows ? Even Bush jr and Obama could have been impressed and changed their stand on carbon emissions. There is no doubt that carbon emission is a major factor contributing to the depletion of our ecology and the ozone layer and hence it is on top of the world agenda, but the fact is, carbon emission is not the only major contributor to the ecological problem, yes, there is little doubt that vehicles and high end carbon producing industrial units play a major role in the degeneration of our ecology but probably our minister for science and technology is ignorant of the fact that mining and destruction of forests also contribute major contributors to the ecological disaster that Goa is heading for. Mining is on equal terms if not more dangerous than the carbon emissions for Goa’s ecology, the destruction and depletion of our forests, the silting of our rivers with mining waste, the destruction of our flora and fauna, the scorching of our fertile fields by mining dust, the receding water tables and not mention the health hazards and our ministers conveniently forgot to mention it to the youngsters and their teachers gathered for the occasion. All this is a farce to full Goans. If our ministers and politicians were really interested in the well being of Goa and it’s ecology, we wouldn’t have been in the dire state that we are today. It certainly makes me wonder, how long will Goa and Goans allow this charade to continue ? The minister should put money where his mouth is and practice what he preaches. Goans, please do not fall victims to the over flowing perfidy of our Goan Ministers and more so the minister for science and technology. As a wise man once said “you might not be able to solve the world’s problems, but when you do something right or good, however miniscule it might be, you become a part of the solution. By default we became a part of the problem when we elected these imbeciles. Hereon let’s all pledge to be a part of the solution. Freddy Agnelo Fernandes
[Goanet] Fwd: Celebrations for 50th year of liberation
Celebrations for 50th year of liberation Today, I suddenly remembered about Mohd. Jinnah, the man responsible for the division of India, along with Nehru, who, has also been the chief architect of the prevailing misery in Goa. During my college days way back in the late 70’s I read about Jinnah who was taken to court during India’s freedom struggle. The British judge irritated with his attitude, stubbornness and lack of respect, waving his finger at Jinnah said “I see a fool in you” and Jinnah with a bow said “In that case I must be the mirror”. Yes indeed ! As our Political elite led by Chief Minister Digambar Kamat are all waiting for the “gong”, to start off the celebrations of the so called 50 years of liberation, they have to look within themselves and see what their conscience reflects in the mirror. Yes indeed ! In 50 years a lot can be achieved. As shown by the Japanese, more than a decade ago, Nagasaki and Hiroshima mourned for their dead and the destruction that was caused by the first two atom bombs 50 years earlier and within 50 years both these devastated cities look like any other Japanese cities. What an achievement it has been ! yes indeed ! There is a vast difference between the Japanese mantra and the Goan mantra and it espouses the will to do and perform on the part of the Japanese and our apathy or indifference to do and perform. It’s been 50 years since the Portuguese left Goans shores, was that liberation ? No my dear Goans, it wasn’t liberation, it was annexation by force, India forced it’s self on us, it wasn’t a choice as there was no referendum like the opinion poll, our Goan leaders fell for conniving moves of some of the then Indian leaders and inherited their legacy of corruption and communalism. Goa was never a part of the Indian union prior to the arrival of the Portuguese, as there was no Indian union then, there is history to prove it, neither were we part to the Indian Constitution, so why did Goa become a part of India post 1961 ? Fifty years of what are our politicians celebrating ? Goa’s freedom from dictatorship to the subjection to India, victims of their pseudo secular democracy ? What has Goa achieved as a result of it’s freedom ? How much has the basic Goan quality of live improved ? Has the basic situation changed or even improved in any way since 1961 ? At least prior to 1961, we were Goans in Goa, living in security, today we are becoming outsiders in our own land, living as insecure as a new born baby, as a matter of fact we have reversed our time machine to the era of lawlessness. Goa is being mutilated and disembodied, even more with every passing year. Why are the promises made by Nehru not fulfilled even after fifty years ? It is our culture, customs, traditions, festivals, occupations, hospitality, our very way of life and above all our language that establishes our unique identity, which is certainly different from the rest of India and well respected around the world. The over five centuries of Portuguese rule had to have it’s effects on the lives of Goans and that is the reason why Nehru had to promise Goa special status to safeguard this unique identity. Over the years due to the non implementation of this promise and the greed of our own politicians, our unique Goan Identity has been diluted and continues to dilute further, as Goa becomes a paradise sought after by the affluent as well as the downtrodden along with all the most wanted, from all over India and the rest of the world, flocking down to Goa in hoards with little or no thought at all. The limited mining legacy left by the Portuguese has been turned into a free for all orgy, butchering the very innards of Goa, that feed them, whereas the pristine beaches have been taken over by drug lords, mafia and pimps. Crime and criminals have been feasting, courtesy of the politicians-police-criminals nexus. Looking at the turmoil and chaos in Goa, we do need to look hard within ourselves, for our part in this degeneration of Goa through our apathy and our inaction. In truth, it is we who are contributing to the slow and agonising death of Goa, we should not be celebrating but infact mourning for the 50 years of corrupt and communal ideologies that were forced on us through their pseudo secular democracy by India. As I see the political elite all decked up for the celebration, I feel it’s utter shame and disgrace for Goans to celebrate 50 years of this liberation that isn’t and that never was and will never be. I wonder, what will our politicians see as a reflection of their conscience in the mirror ? Epitomes of humanity or a disgrace to mankind ? Goa ! Take your pick Freddy Agnelo Fernandes

[Goanet] Fwd: All Parties Confident Of Winning An Absolute Majority
will indubitably wither away and Goa will be an inhabitance of rational people. Freddy Agnelo Fernandes Subhash confidant of Cong winning 25 seats alone HERALD CORRESPONDENT Subhash confidant of Cong winning 25 seats alone HERALD CORRESPONDENT OLD GOA, DEC 13 Hitting out at the MGP and NCP, Goa Pradesh Congress Committee President Subhash Shirodkar on Sunday said the Congress could easily win at least 25 seats in the next assembly polls without joining hands with other political parties. Shirodkar was reacting to a statement by newly-elected MGP President Deepak Dhavlikar on a local TV channel that the MGP — a coalition partner in the Congress-led government — would start its campaign in around 10 constituencies by January 15 to gear up for the next assembly polls. Incidentally, the NCP, the other coalition partner, had also indicated its wish to fight the next assembly elections in all the 40 constituencies on its own. “I welcome the decision made by the MGP President as elections are to take place in May 2012. I think all parties would go on saying that they would contest all 40 seats, but only time would tell as to what are the capabilities of every party and seats they could contest and win,” Shirodkar told Herald. “If the MGP wants to go independently, it is fine. But that intention should remain even after the elections. They should not then come and say that they would like to have an alliance with our party,” said Shirodkar. “Our party is ready to take on any party by all means, whether it is the MGP, NCP, BJP or some other local party.” “Even the NCP has been making a similar statement, despite being in coalition with the Congress in the State,” the GPCC president added. When asked if the Congress was confident of winning the next assembly elections on its own, Shirodkar said: “We are so strong that we expect to win at least 25 seats in the next elections. Hence, the Congress will not get jitters with such statements made by these people.” “Ever since I have taken over as party president, I feel that the Congress should go all alone in the next assembly elections,” he said. He predicted that the Congress would return to power in the next assembly polls. “The Congress has the mandate of the people. In the recent elections, the Congress won in Pale and Valpoi constituencies, besides supporting the winning candidates in the Zilla Panchayat and municipal polls,” he said. [Goanet] Fwd: Shashikala Asks The Youth To Emulate Dr Ambedkar
Shashikala Asks The Youth To Emulate Dr Ambedkar Former Chief Minister Ms Shashikala Kakodkar calls upon the youth to propagate the ideas and principles of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar, what ideas were propagated by her in her younger days and as the political leader of Goa ? Practice what you preach should be the norm followed by one and all. Instead of calling on the youth she should have been calling on the present breed of politicians to follow Dr Ambedkar and change their corrupt and communal ideologies. If at all a change is needed, it the ploitical elite of Goa that need to be bathed and scrrubed till their skins of corruption and communalism are peeled off and grafted with the skin Dr Ambedkar's ideologies, as they themselves should have been role models to the youngesters who are looking upto them for deliverance. There is no doubt Dr Ambedkar was the epitome of honesty and integrity, he also worked tirelessly for unity and the upliftment of the downtrodden, especially from the lower strata of society. Has she followed in Dr Ambedkar’s footsteps to eradicate poverty and the cast system, help the poor and the downtrodden ? If so, even after her party being in power for over two decades, how come the people of the lower strata are still insecure and lag behind socially and economically ? The love for the poor and the downtrodden should not be seasonal or when elections are round the corner, it should be professed and practiced in all seasons. Freddy Agnelo Fernandes
[Goanet] Home Minister To Challenge Court Verdict
Home Minister To Challenge Court Verdict It is very ominous to note that Goa’s law and order machinery gets jammed at almost every junction. People of Goa are baffled at Mahanand’s seven acquittals. If all that was printed on the news papers was the truth, what actually has gone wrong with the investigation or the trial of Mahanand Naik ? If infact Mahanand is the serial killer, them he must be laughing off his ears at the stupidity of the law and order machinery of Goa as he is being acquitted with impunity on every count and other similar psychos must be licking their lips and planning some more gruesome acts. People’s faith in the Goan system is thinning by the day, as we read and hear criminals going scott-free, and our men in uniform seem to be clueless about the crime or the criminals. Even if they are lucky to find one, then there are overwhelming chances that the person will get acquitted or disappear into thin air. So far, their efforts have been clumsy, comical and amateurish. That’s the reason why crime rate is very high in Goa, and the apathy of the government to restore parity is very much overt. The acquittals of Mahanand have been based on insufficient proof or lack of concrete evidence and it’s droll to watch our Home Minister trying to challenge the verdicts of the lower courts, is he really serious about solving this case or is he just trying to find a scapegoat or is he trying to restore his lost pride ? This are some obvious questions in the minds of people. Our Home Minister once had said that there were no drugs in Goa which very soon showed the ubiquitous nature of his stupidity, when an international drug smuggler was caught and let loose as he just conveniently and conspicuously vanished into thin air right before their eyes, only to surface in another country, wasn’t that the responsibility of the Home Ministry ? Has any action been taken against the responsible ? It makes one wonder if Dudu disappeared on his own or asked to disappear as he could have opened the pandora box and put the Home Minister in a fix. Our Goan police seem to be efficient enough only to clean and clear any evidence for the elite and apprehend and harass people who are raising their voices against mining and mega housing, for their right to live a decent life, whereas criminals, rapists, killers and drug smugglers just get acquitted or disappear into thin air. Our Home Ministry looks like an oversized sumo wrestler trying to find his own zipper, he knows it’s there but he can neither see it nor touch it. In Goa to become a minister or a Chief Minister, the Curriculum Vitae of their quantum of social work or achievements is irrelevant, every greenhorn with a dynamic father or a dynamic godfather is enough criteria to be installed a prince or princess in the Goa Vidhan Sabha. One more piranha to pick off what’s left of the flesh from the bones of Goa. Yesterday itself there was Micky’s big birthday bash to show off his support, if only all this money was used to educate or feed the poor, a few Goans would have breathed a sigh of relief with a smile on their faces. Austerity is being professed but not lived upto. What a shame ! All the money spent on the people has to come back to their respective coffers what better way than to indulge in dirty politics. Our South Goan corrupt politicians are really living it up at the cost of Goa and Goans calling themselves man of the masses, and we Goans are gullible enough to swallow it hook, line and sinker. [Goanet] RP2021 should be as People Want It To Be
RP2021 should be as People Want It To Be The finalised RP 2021 was flashed like a Christmas Candy before the Goan public, as expected some gulped it down hook, line and sinker, thinking Digu kaka had dropped manna from haven and put up congratulatory messages, like it was the best thing that happened to Goa since the opinion poll. As days passed and the experts go through the draft, have realized that it was just a sugar coated candy with cyanide inside. This present RP2021 is full of anomalies and in a number of cases new zones have been specified and established which were not included in RP2011 and done so without any consultation. Goans have to scrutinised the present format and expose the governments attempt to hijack the peoples version of the RP. If Digambar Kamat thinks he can force on people whatever he likes, why did we have the lengthy, tedious participatory process ? Where in people were told and promised their views would be adhered to. From where did the new zones come ? What is the point in having a participatory process if it’s not transparent ? Digambar Kamat said that the full and final RP2021 will take a long time, if this process is not implemented immediately then I am sure by the time RP2021 in implemented, the land sharks, builders and miners will milk the cow called Goa dry and leave it dieing. The only option left for us Goans is to ask for a blanket ban on all the so called developmental projects till the RP2021 is finalized, agreed and ready for implementation. Goans have been led astray by Digambar Kamat for too long, We have to act now. Freddy Agnelo Fernandes

[Goanet] Why No Action Against Erring Miners ?
Why No Action Against Erring Miners ? The nexus between the miners, police and our politicians is again exposed as an innocent man lost his life under the wheels of a mining truck. It’s shocking to know that the police instead of apprehending the culprit were trying to get rid of the evidence of the gruesome act in a hurry, a direct responsibility of the mine owner and to put it under the carpet our Aam Aadmi Chief Minister promises 2 lakh compensation for the deceased family and says nothing about action against the perpetrator of this crime. If the Chief Minister cannot give us justice he is not fit to remain in office, he should resign. How many more lives will be lost before justice sees daylight ? Our Chief Minister has valued a Goan life at two lakhs, is his and the lives of other members of his family worth the same ? Kill a person and pay two lakhs is the message our CM is sending out. Apart from being the Chief Minister, he is also the minister for mines; he should be the one to initiate action against the erring miners and their subsidiaries. How long will the compensation sustain the bereaved family ? Can money really replace life ? There is no doubt that compensation helps the bereaved family but it should be a lot more, on the other hand why should the tax payers money be used to compensate for the negligence of the mining community ? The compensation should come from the mining community itself and should be nothing less than 30 to 35 lakhs for fatality or permanent disabilities. The erring miners and their subsidiaries should not be let off so easily for such utter and deliberate negligence. This is not the first incident that mining trucks have taken a life, people in the mining belt have been agitating against the adverse effects of mining, including rash driving, for a long time and every time such an incident occurs, the police and our political Babus have been siding with the miners and promising that such incidents will not occur again, but like all their other promises, they are laid waste and forgotten till the next such incident occurs, and the same old story repeats itself. As recorded in the Vidhan Sabha, most of Goa’s politicians benefit from mining, legal or illegal, one way or the other and it’s amply clear that our police and politicians do not want to take any action against the mining fraternity for obvious reasons and to make it worse, the people fighting against the atrocities in mining areas are harassed, targeted and even labeled as naxallites. How long will we Goans allow this to carry on ? How long will it be before we realize that the present government is not the government of the Aam Aadmi ? How long will it be before we Goans wise-up to the fact that we Goans are being taken for a jolly good ride by our politicians ? No doubt these incidents have forced us into creating a mood viciously hostile towards the political and social administration. It is indeed time to pause and focus our pent-up anger in the right direction. It is imperative that we unite with all our recourses and wage a full-scale war against the anti Goan administration and their flag bearers. Goans have suffered for too long in silence it’s now time to be more vocal and aggressive. It’s time we stood by, in solidarity with our aggrieved Goan brothers and sisters. Freddy Agnelo Fernandes

In a posh bungalow there live a rich man Mr. Jack (Miguel Rosario), His son James (Creto D’Costa), House maid Rosy (Dorine Fernandes) and a house boy Hitler (Aldair Figueiredo) James neglected by parental love, a school drop out is a petty thief. A one man robber gang. He is into fast money making and be as rich as his father (Lives with rich father though). He now joins a gang, who is the boss? No body knows. They only follow his instructions. In another household there live Mrs, Rita (Rita Fernandes) and her daughter Daisy (Valancia Nunes). Rita and Jack never get on well with each other. Rita comes to jack’s house every money to collect a sort of fixed ‘hafta’. Yet there is another runaway little girl from his ‘Maxen’ aunty. She is Jane (Joylin Barbosa) whose father was killed and since then she was living with her aunt who maltreated her and never wants to go back. And there is Mr. Jerry (Domnic Araujo) a family friend of both families. A very influential person, even helped Daisy to get a decent job. As nothing come for free, Jerry wants some favours form Daisy in return.. he did not specify the type of favour he is after.. James and daisy are good friends, just friends but the father is not happy about their friendship and tell him to stay away from her Wilson (Teotonio Pereira), Jack’s friend feel piety for this child Jane and takes her to Jack’s place for a temporary shelter. When Jane sees James, she fainted and collapsed. Many questions needed answers such as.. Why Jane fainted on seeing James? What James is into? Who is his boss? Why Rita and Jack don’t get on well?* Why Rita coming to Jack’s place every month?* The monthly hafta or the dole, what for?* Why the mother also not happy with James and Daisy friendship?* Who is this Uncle Jerry? Why he is poking his nose into the family affairs? What favours he was after from Daisy? Wilson is like a right hand of Mr. Jack but what business is Mr. Jack into? Well, I am sure. by now, you know the answers to above questions marked with asterisk (*) or atleast have a hunch All answers revealed in the end. Hence it is a suspense thriller. [Goanet] JACKSON COUTINHO
Dear All, Very sadly, I read on the Navhind Times that Jackson Coutinho of Canacona, who was struggling for his life at the Rashid Hospital in Dubai passed away yesterday, 26th October. Does anyone know the exact cause of his death, did the doctors do all they could to save the young man's life? I know how his state was when I visited him twice in the hospital, and did not have a good feeling about his recovery. I hope his family will have the courage to bear the loss and pray for everyone who may have tried to help the young boy get back to his normal health. God give eternal rest to the departed soul - Amen. Agnelo Fernandes Goa/Dubai

I would like to believe that your message below was crucial in building awareness about one of our achievers whom we have forgotten. Just before 1.30 pm, the English programme announcer was complaining that she had received too many requests for songs to play. Someone, she said, had rang to point out that it was Alfred's death anniversary, and could she play an English song of his. She couldn't oblige due to lack of time, but pointed this out. Alfred Rose was known as The Man with the Golden Voice (courtesy His Master's Voice Recording Company). As a child when I watched the Tiatr's in Bombay, I can still remember the whistling clapping when people saw him entering the stage. His voice echoed in my ears even after I returned home. Alfred Rose sang thousands of songs and unfortunately nobody has got an exact count. His songs are loved by thousands of fans who are not only in India but also worldwide. His songs always had a special message, be it a slow melody or a fast number. There have been many events organized in his memory such as musical shows talent contests. Tiatr Academy of Goa has sponsored a couple of Alfred Rose musical shows recently. Last year on the occasion of his 6th death anniversary, I had made the www.alfredrose.com website public. There have been more than 2000 hits so far and I have received a lot of emails from fans worldwide thanking me for the website. Unfortunately, the website did not get updated for almost 10 months due to time and certain technical limitations. However, this year on the 21st of October 2010, his fans will see a new face of the website. Photos that have never been seen before. From here on the website will be updated regularly. There will be videos and audio added soon too. Thereafter, a Facebook group was created by one of his fans Augusto Lucas Morais and also administered by our very own Edward Verdes. There are 384 members as of today including Engelbert Rose and Alria Rose. Re: [Goanet] Workshop for Tiatr Artistes
Dear Victor This is a very good initiative will help the artists. Saying that I also feel that TAG must also look at reaching out to people not only physically located in Goa but to also those who are outside Goa. With the modern age of video conferencing, video training and online education TAG must think in those lines to cater globally that will help talented artists to improve their Konkani skills. The goal is to educate people to write in Roman script and that’s anyways easily available in Goa if one is determined to learn, so it would be great if this service could be extended globally with the use of technology. Best Wishes Agnelo -- From: Tiatr Academy Goa tiatracad...@gmail.com Sent: Friday, May 21, 2010 9:10 AM To: goa...@goanet.org Subject: [Goanet] Workshop for Tiatr Artistes Workshop for Tiatr Artistes Tiatr Academy Goa has organized a workshop for writers of scripts of tiatr lyrics of songs on Monday, 07th June 2010 from 10:00 am onwards at TAG’s Conference Hall, Campal Trade Centre, Campal, Panaji Goa. The workshop will deal with the correct method of writing in Konkani in Roman script. It is a fact that in the present times, no tiatr artiste has taken formal education in Konkani in Roman script. This is the main reason why different script writers and lyricists write Konkani in Roman script in different ways. TAG aims at bringing uniformity in the writing of Konkani in Roman script among the tiatr artistes by organizing series of workshops to that effect. The first workshop scheduled on 07th June will be conducted by Shri. Tomazinho Cardozo, President of TAG. Tiatr artistes interested in attending the workshop should confirm their participation by informing TAG by writing or through phone nos. 2230738/2230739 on of before 04th June 2010.. TAG requests the tiatr artistes to take benefit of the workshop so that the standard of writing Konkani in Roman Script is improved. Victor de Sa Member Secretary

[Goanet] Ref: Old Konkani Records
Hello, Preserving Music can or must be done within Goa or India. Sigrid Pfeffer may have special passion for Konkani we all do the same but I understand that her love of Konkani music is more commercial than just passion for music or listening pleasure. If she just loved to listen to Konkani songs or just air them over German Radio would be understood as pure passion would be appreciated by Goans, however, releasing music CD's with old songs and selling them at £13.99 is a pure indication that Konkani music means business for her in those regions where she wants to introduce or broadcast music. My request to everyone is not to sell your old records to any outsider's with the hopes that Konkani will be kept alive. We must first keep Konkani alive in GOA and then move outside. I strongly feel that people who are outside Goa have more love for Konkani anyways than the new generation within Goa. Please do not misunderstand me, Im not against Sigrid nor about her commercial gains. All I'm trying to say is that her goal is not the same as the goals that all of us Goans have that is to keep Konkani alive. [Goanet] Overwhelm TPC on 4th March 2010
--- *** Follow Goanet on Twitter *** http://twitter.com/goanet --- Overwhelm TPC on 4th March 2010 The Kamat Government has been taking the Goan people for granted for too long a time, as it is said “one just cannot fool the people all the time” and the exactly what’s the corrupt Kamat Government has been trying to do, fool us Goans all along. The corrupt Kamat Government has been indeed falling way too short, in delivering any of the promises make to Aam Aadmi, may it be the pre election or post election promises, it just doesn’t matter to them as long as they get to load up as much wealth as possible by means more foul than fair, irrespective of the carnage caused to Goa, it’s ecology, it’s environment and it’s people. March 4th 2010, will encompass our commitment to Goa, the call given by the GBA to all like minded Goans, to profess our support to the cause of Goa, should not be in vain. Here is our chance to demand the fulfillment of one of the promises made by our elected representatives. We have been suckers for too far a long time, and it is high time that we take the authorities to task. People have tried all peaceful means for an amicable solution but our politicians have takes us for granted and riding rough sod over our wishes, aspirations and our wellbeing. Form past experience it is true that our authorities only listen to the voice of mass movement. The GBA has been leading us from the front and it is our duty to overwhelmingly support this very emphatic initiative taken by the GBA on our behalf. A stitch in time saves nine is a cliché we have often heard, it’s late already but we still have a semblance of a chance to save what’s left of Goa. We just do not have any sartorial choices left to bank on, so let us be pertinent to Goa’s cause and show our solidarity to Goa and Goans and be present in large numbers, adhering the call given by the GBA. --- http://www.GOANET.org --- Happy New Year Twenty-Ten --- Dog goes on a rampage, bites 18 people in Panjim HERALD REPORTER - PANJIM, JAN 5 In a shocking incident, a street dog, which had gone out of its senses, held the capital city to virtual ransom for around two and half hours. The dog bit around 18 individuals in the two and half hours creating a panicky situation around the city. It all started at 10 am near the Panjim market area (near Poshak) when the dog bit one passer by and then it went all around the city right through the Weekender showroom near Don Bosco, to the Panjim police station and then reached the Azad Maidan area. A scribe, policemen, students, advocate, teacher and several others were amongst its victims. A person speaking to Herald said that they called up the CCP office two three times but there was no response. Finally, the CCP tempo came at around 12.30 and picked him up, said one Nilesh Naik, a student, whose friend was also a victim. Other eyewitnesses narrating the harrowing incident said that the dog had become so wild it was attacking anything and everything he could see, be it vehicle or a human being. “He did not even spare the other street dogs and even bit them. We were just hiding for our lives,” people present on the scene said. Moreover, when the victims rushed to the Panjim health centre for treatment they couldn’t believe their luck as the attendants said that they did not have the anti-rabbies injection and also it was lunch time. Some people rushed to GMC while some who couldn’t wait for the injections to arrive at the health centre. People who went to GMC too did not get the injection and had to buy their own at the cost of Rs 300, the victims said. --- Only tells about the pathetic state of Medical Services in Government Hospitals, and moreover at the GMC. Such is the condition under our very able and health conscious Health Minister. May he remain healthy always. The INTERNET now has a personality. YOURS! See your Yahoo! Homepage. http://in.yahoo.com/
[Goanet] Uncle Aunty vs Mama Mami
On Sat, 21 Nov 2009 09:23:24 -0500, Domnic Fernandes domval...@hotmail.com wrote on hte Subject: Re: [Goanet] Goanese After I retired and returned to Goa, practically everyone in Anjuna, including all the policemen but excluding senior citizens call me ‘uncle’ and I don’t mind it at all. I know they use it out of respect for me. Males and females in their Forties address me as ‘Domnic uncle.’ In short, I have become ‘Anjuna uncle.’ Even when I visit Mapusa market, the shopkeepers and vendors address me as ‘uncle;’ maybe because of my white hair. Nowadays, even senior citizens dye their hair black and think they are sweet sixteen! It is these people who don’t like to be called ‘uncle’ and ‘aunty!’ In the days of yore, the word ‘uncle’ was used mostly by Bomboikar (Bombay Goans.) The local Goan used Konkani words like ‘titiu’ for father’s brother; ‘mama’ for mother’s brother; ‘mavxi’ for mother’s sister; ‘timaim’ for titiu’s wife, etc. – please read my article of March 2005 in the link below: http://lists.goanet.org/htdig.cgi/goanet-goanet.org/2005-March/112492.html Unfortunately, the present-day generation does not even make an effort to use Konkani words of relationship. As a result, they use ‘uncle’ and ‘aunty’ for every relationship.
