Any idea when we'll see the Linux/Mac fixes for CS:S, HL2:DM and 300? We still have some players on Macs, only a couple on Linux. Hi, Ross and co. I was playing on Eyeaduct last night and found that engineers could build during the truce but the buildings were not attackable. Not that it really mattered because we just destroyed the sentry as soon as the truce finished but hey ho. I've been told that sappers can still be applied during Truce mode, but can't actually be removed during this time. This probably should be fixed. Re: [hlds_linux] [hlds] Mandatory TF2 update released
I noticed last night that the Flare Gun is only mini-critting now. I assumed this was an unannounced change to the weapon, but it appears to be one of the symptoms of another change. At the moment, you can't crit anyone who is covered in Jarate or while you are being affected by a mini-crit source such as the Buff Banner. It appears that mini-crits now override crits instead of the opposite way around. Having a friendly buff banner and/or Jarate able to cancel the affects of headshots, backstabs, the Kritzkrieg, and random crits breaks game mechanics. This needs to be fixed. Soon. You should fix the taunting bugs, it's annoying to see players doing taunts while moving and killing players. If a player spy does the taunting bug and disguises, the enemy disguise will appear as tauting and can fool other players. It's not a minor bug. Re: [hlds_linux] [hlds] Mandatory TF2 update released
Right, but I enabled the sv_allow_votes cvar after map start... since I was only doing testing I didn't want to change the configuration. Incidentally, I know what's wrong in NativeVotes: TF2 now uses 0 for all teams instead of 255 / -1. A new NativeVotes 1.0 beta is out now, but I plan on backporting the fix (and new vote types) to it. The current 1.0x series will probably go away soon since changes to the VoteSetup usermessage murdered it. Re: [hlds_linux] [hlds] Mandatory TF2 update released
Silly question perhaps, but you're not running steamcmd updates while the server is still running from the same set of files, are you? I've seen that cause some _very_ weird (similar) problems on Linux systems b/c of how files are handled - some files get overwritten, others that are still in use do not. If you have autoupdate on reboot enabled it would validate and fix those files. There are still a lot of server crashes on pl_hightower_event. I've tried without addons folder and i was still crashing so this is not a sourcemod issue. EVERY SINGLE CRASH was while beeing in hell. My friends running other servers have the same issue - crash while in hell. 2013/10/31 Kyle Sanderson kyle.l...@gmail.com Were you guys able to fix the null model_t* trace-ray engine bug? I encountered it last week in cstrike where a solid didn't have a collision model, resulting in GetCollisionModel returning NULL. The initial generic call in cstrike came from the unducks in movement. The dumps I've seen (from TF pre-today update) have the same offset, so I'm largely assuming it's the same. Presumably High Tower has/had a similar problem? It also looks like guards are already present for a NULL vcollide_t *. The crashes I've encountered/seen are in bool CEngineTrace::ClipRayToVPhysics( const Ray_t , unsigned int, ICollideable *, studiohdr_t *, trace_t * );. If it's of any interest, although I don't actively run a TF2 server any more, I've successfully run a HL2:DM server on FreeBSD now for about a year, and it's never failed to run after an update. Odd in a sense, because it's Linux compatibility layer is based on Fedora 10, but I suppose the libraries themselves are from the base system which is far more up-to-date. Re: [hlds_linux] [hlds] Mandatory TF2 update released
A more important question would be... why are you still running CentOS 5? CentOS 6 came out two years ago... and from what people have said on this list, it sounds like CentOS 6 isn't affected by this issue. Now, having said that, CentOS and Debian both suffer from the same issue: Both tend to use old libraries. Which means, when a new server program comes out or an old one is upgraded, you're going to have issues. Even now, the newest Debian Stable (released in July) doesn't have a new enough GLIBC to run any Source game clients. While that's only tangentially related to the servers, it does show a problem with certain distros when you can't rely on them having libraries released in the last 1-3 years. CentOS, not have a major version in the past two years, is presumably even farther behind than Debian. As much as I dislike what Ubuntu is doing on the desktop, I still use it for my servers simply because I know I can at least somewhat rely on it having new enough libraries to run the various software I need... and I'm using the LTS version released a year and a half ago! ... I didn't realize we were this close to another Ubuntu LTS release already. On 8/28/2013 4:51 PM, Valentin G. wrote: Even if it was not broken: Why CentOS? sv_compressstringtablebaselines should still be present in this build, and it is defaulted to false. The baselines are not compressed at that stage, instead we just compress them if desired like any other network data at either the fragment or packet stage. Ah, I had only checked for the existence of sv_compressfragments. For what it's worth in my test of the prerelease build, the default convars didn't help to alleviate any issues. Only after I set sv_compressfragments to 0 did I see a visible improvement in performance. In fact the long frames had virtually disappeared other than the occasional one, but it performed much better than before. Hopefully the new compression scheme will be performant enough to not require disabling entirely. Will definitely be on the lookout for any perf issues with these changes. I believe that the switch to a realtime compression library will fix the CPU spikes while getting the reduction in bandwidth that the compression was intended to achieve. The sv_compressfragments convar has been removed. You can get the same functionality simply by setting net_compresspackets_minsize to a large value. You might experiment with net_compresspackets_minsize to see if a larger or smaller value drastically effects performance and bandwidth. -Original Message- From: hlds_linux-boun...@list.valvesoftware.commailto: hlds_linux-boun...@list.valvesoftware.com [mailto: hlds_linux-boun...@list.valvesoftware.commailto: hlds_linux-boun...@list.valvesoftware.com] On Behalf Of Eric Smith Sent: Friday, May 17, 2013 11:09 AM To: Half-Life dedicated Win32 server mailing list; Half-Life dedicated Linux server mailing list; 'hlds_annou...@list.valvesoftware.commailto: hlds_annou...@list.valvesoftware.com' Subject: [hlds_linux] Mandatory TF2 update released We've released a mandatory update for Team Fortress 2. This convar now also determines the threshold to determine when a fragment (logical game network message, before being broken up into network packets) is compressed. - Added vprof_vtrace and vprof_report_oninterval convars, and tweaked vprof_dump_spikes and vprof_dump_oninterval to reduce output Team Fortress 2 - Added the Robotic Boogaloo community update: http://www.teamfortress.com/roboticboogaloo/ - Fixed a chat exploit that would cause other clients to timeout from dedicated servers - Updated the Mann Co. Kyle I also e-mailed Fletcher about listen servers being crasheable... It's a shame they don't pay much attention to CS:S.
