Sounds great Alan. The profile should probably hold the maximum size
in binary, so that you can use generic profiles. So a permit to a
generic profile consisting of 39 0's and then a 1like this
01* would allow any size up to 16M. And don't let confusing
CP error messages for lack of authorization (like with the VMNODE)
hold you back in this.

Telling Alan something is a dumb idea only encourages him, so I try
like this now... :-)

Actually Nick you meant she. Paris Hilton, one of the heirs to the entire

I can think of only two individuals named Paris who were male, and one was
responsible for the events in the Illiad, and the other is of course from

And yes I do agree with your statement, Besides, it's hard to imagine

Nah, just create a TDISK of a default size. Also, if you happen to be

Since it is a directory defined value and the user cannot change it and
the user's ability to update the directory is under control of the ESM,
maxstor already is under control of the ESM.

Remember that active mode FTP creates an additional data connection that
may not be using 20 or 21 (the CD will flow over the port 20 control
connection, so that should work). VM FTP defaults to active mode FTP,
and LS or PUT cause that second data connection to attempt to open.

Try a PASV command before you try to do the LS.

Check diskmap (or a disk mapping tool of your choice) to see if it shows
anything at cyl0 on this disk. Or allocate a r/o minidisk at cyl0, link

Re: Allocation error from dasd

2007-02-05 Thread Mike Walter
Look thorough all your directory entries for something like:

MDISK vdev 3390 000 cyl_cnt 510W04 MR

If you find an MDISK statement that begins on cylinder 000, and it's not
one of MAINT's full-pack MDISKS, then you have probably found the error.
Aside from full-pack MDISK statements that are used to map the entire
physical pack, it's generally not a good practice to allocate MDISKs on
cylinder zero.

Cylinder zero is special in that (without getting into gory details)
some of the first parts of cylinder zero are used to house CP's
Allocation Bit Map. Best practices generally dictate that cylinder
zero not be allocated for anything but the volser, the Allocation Bit
Map, the Stand Alone Program Loader, and other CP-specific functions.
In some circumstances you can certainly get away with using cylinder zero
for added purposes - but you risk later damage when you forget that it is
also being used for CP's own purposes. Setting aside one single cylinder
per DASD is not really a waste of resources if doing so keeps one from
shooting themselves (and their system) in the foot at a later date.

I guess it's time for me to write a requirement to change the default

for the CMS client to behave in a way that would be friendly to the
