Re: [JAWS-Users] start menu search box?
Hi, you could try the following: 1. In the start menu search box, type in network. 2. If you press up arrow, can you find the programs header. If so there should be a number in parenthesis after the word header. This is the total number of programs that have matched your search - only some are displayed in the start menu. What is the number. 3. With the programs header selected, press enter. Windows explorer opens showing all the search results in the programs group. Can you find network in these results? Re: [JAWS-Users] Setup menu
If I understand the question correctly,, wouldn't viewing the contents of the cd in Windows Explorer be the same? When the cd is inserted, a dialogue should pop-up asking what to do with the disk, select, explorer disk, or view files, and the contents of the disk should be in a list view, if that is the view you have selected on the computer. Hello there; Another thing you can try if your start menu search is missing, 1, go to control panel, 2, enter on programs and features, 3, now tab and enter on, Turn Windows features on or off link. Just wait a little until the window populates, Now press the letter w until you hear; Windows search, if the box is unchecked, press the spacebar to check it. Now tab and enter on okay. This will install the Windows Search feature if it was missing or uninstalled. Just restart your computer and check the start menu, the search option on the start menu should be back. -Original Message- From: jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Rick Justice Sent: Wednesday, April 18, 2012 6:24 AM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] start menu search box? I'd like to chime in on this thread concerning the search box issue. I just need some clearification on using this thang. I know I guess it's geared to try to figure out what it thinks you want to search for, but most of the time it's results are all wrong. How do you tell it your in control of the search item and not the computer to type in something to search and then do I just press enter there or maybe should I tab to an ok button? Are there tricks to mastering this search box field to get what you want? Maybe put it in quotes or something? It is all about learning what terms to use. Use the language of the computer and it seems to get really good. I'm finding that I use Search more and more for things I know what I'm looking for. No quotes or any other symbol or your computer will look for those. For me, it is much easier to start typing Music, Excel, Word, Notepad, ... than go hunting around in the programs or other places or even repeated Highlighted letters. On my computer, for example, Notepad can be found with NO or NOT always. Just don't get frustrated and keep trying to learn the language. -Original Message- From: Trish Sent: Wednesday, April 18, 2012 11:04 AM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] start menu search box? Re: [JAWS-Users] start menu search box?
When I search for anything, in Windows or on a search engine, start by being as limited and specific as you reasonably can. Remember that Windows is searching in your computer and Google or some such site is searching the world. If I type Excel in Google, I'll get everything but what I want. If I type that same term in my computer, it's pretty likely I'll get the program. Also, if on a site like Google, I wouldn't type apple to search. I'd type maybe apple pie recipe or apple grower, and a zipcode. Very short and direct. On my computer, if I type doc for Documents, I'll get a couple program type things, but I can down arrow and find Documents in the list and go straight to my stored files. Searching is one thing where practice does help. The more you do it and try to do it better, the better you'll get. Maybe I think I should help it along giving it more words to search for than necessary, lol. It's of a different beast than like say on web pages to search for stuff that you put in the edit box and typically tab to ok button to generate the search. Windows 7 search seems to work very differently or, it's just me... - Original Message - From: dgcnc dg...@bellsouth.net To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Sent: Wednesday, April 18, 2012 10:31 AM Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] start menu search box? I'd like to chime in on this thread concerning the search box issue. I just need some clearification on using this thang. I know I guess it's geared to try to figure out what it thinks you want to search for, but most of the time it's results are all wrong. How do you tell it your in control of the search item and not the computer to type in something to search and then do I just press enter there or maybe should I tab to an ok button? Are there tricks to mastering this search box field to get what you want? Maybe put it in quotes or something? Okay, didn't know how to word this question. When I go to the top of my start menu in windows 7, there is a search box. Up until about 3 weeks ago when I typed the word net it would bring up my network, so I could manage the devices, see what was connected, and let me make any changes. Now when I type this word, all it brings up is something to do with my all in one printer. Even when I go all the way down, it doesn't bring up the network, it says see more results Is there any way to reset this without restoring to factory defaults? Re: [JAWS-Users] start menu search box?
Trish, Are you searching for programs or files on your computer, or are you trying to search for text in your files? I seemingly can find most programs in my computer by just typing the first few letters of the program's name. Searching for stuff inside your files is a different search. -- Blue skies. Re: [JAWS-Users] start menu search box?
Maybe I should search for me? smiles. I haven't been using it much lately since it likes to frustrate me so. But once I was looking for the control panel or maybe that programs/features area. Now thanks to a good friend, it resides on the desktop and I sure like how the control panel for windows 7 is laid out better tthan xp, especially using first letter navigation. Usually though, I search for a program not a file or it's contents. - Original Message - From: Dan Rossi d...@andrew.cmu.edu To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Sent: Wednesday, April 18, 2012 11:06 AM Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] start menu search box? [JAWS-Users] Windows Live Messenger
Hi friends, I am pretty sure that there is a key combination that will make JAWS repeat the last Windows Live Messenger announcement e.g. the last person to sign in, can anyone remember it please? [JAWS-Users] regarding the jaws scripts for personal alarm plug in
Hello, Did someone on the list used PersonalAlarm plug in for jaws? If so I would like to know about the steps followed by me to add the scripts for jaws. Since I have running multiple versions of Jaws 12 and 13 on the same computer, pressed Insert+0, then closed the script manager before continuing to the steps below. After using the installer, there was a subfolder in my start menu labeled Gutterstar. It contained another subfolder labeled PersonalAlarm. In the PersonalAlarm folder, I have notice a shortcut labeled 1 PersonalAlarm.jss Clicked on the shortcut labeled 1 PersonalAlarm.jss The file got opened in the Jaws script manager. Once opened, pressed Control+S. To complete compile scripts and here I should get the message that scripts are compiled and complete. But here I ggot the following error: Script Load Error The file C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Freedom Scientific\JAWS\12.0\Settings\enu\PersonalAlarm.JSB could not be opened OK Then I pressed Control+Shift+D. doing this, opened Default.jss Pressed Control+End, then pressed enter key couple of times. At the bottom of the file, typed the following line, Use PersonalAlarm.jsb then press enter. Pressed Control+S once again, then close the file. After doing these steps, I should have got the confirmation of successfully adding the scripts for personal alarm plugin but again I got the same error. so please tell me where i have made the mistake? how to rectify the same? requesting your kind cooperation. thanks, mukesh.
