[JAWS-Users] scripts and tutorials for audacity

2013-08-13 Thread André van Deventer
Hi all

I know this has not been discussed before but I now find myself in a
position where I must learn to use the program.

Are there any scripts available for audacity with Jaws 14? And do you need
any scripts for this program to work effectively with jaws 14?

Also, any kind of tutorial from a blindness perspective about this program
will be highly appreciated.

Andre

JAWS will not see this display automatically. Did you look in JAWS
Options, add a braille display? Then, in the Synthesizer and braille
manager; Does JAWS see the braille Edge among those listed? if another
braille display is still the default, then you will need to change that
and/or remove it, if JAWS still doesn't see the braille Edge. if there
are no active braille displays, you need to tell JAWS (check) the
Braille Edge. Add it in via the Synthesizer and braille manager. If not
known as Braille Edge, it may be called Braille Sense.

I think the very first thing would to run disk clean up and delete
everything that it finds. Then run defrag. I just did that on a friend's
computer. She had it for a few years and never used those utilities. I
removed about 1.5 gigs and that took over an hour and about 6 hours for
the

defrag. The system ran significiently faster. The next time I get there I
want to go through add remove programs and see if there is anything that
she

no longer uses.I would then proceed to ccleaner or something like that, I
personally like combofix.

Scam, scam, scam! Don't waste your time or money with any so-called
cleaning programs advertised on TV or radio. They are more likely to
infect your PC with malware than to fix any problems. Use a reliable
utility like CCleaner, Glary Utilities or Advanced System Care, all of
which
are free, to clean up your computer. If none of these programs improve
your

computer's performance, then you may have a hardware problem that may
require the services of a qualified technician. If your computer is
running
hot, I recommend installing a utility like Core Temp or Speed Fan to
monitor

the CPU temperature. If the temperature consistently approaches about 60
degrees Celsius, then you may have a serious overheating problem which may
be adversely affecting your computer's performance.

[JAWS-Users] Window's Mail Hanging

2013-08-13 Thread Patricia Zoellers
I seem to be experiencing some frequent occurrences of emails hanging in WM
on windows 7 laptop.

This is what's going on...

If an email is open, and other emails are coming into the inbox, then jaws
doesn't speak until I have to alt tab away from that email and back again.
Also, if forwarding an email, this is where it seems to really hang, it
doesn't let me tab through the header fields, in fact I really can't do
anything. I try to close the email and most times it doesn't close or if it
does, then message pops up asking if I want to save it, I have to say yes,
so it will finally close.
Then when that happens, the inbox list of emails, Jaws says, unselected. I
have to close the program and go back in again to fix it.

Does anyone know what could be causing all of this to happen and is there
any fix for it?

Thanks,

Patricia

When I did tech support as a GwMicro dealer, you got the Braille Edge out of
terminal mode by having it connected as you do. When you start your
computer, and it comes up in terminal mode, unload and then reload Jaws.

Don't know if that helps with the current version, but give it a shot. You
completely unload Jaws with Windows-Insert-F4.

Take my advice, I don't use it anyway.

JAWS will not see this display automatically. Did you look in JAWS
Options, add a braille display? Then, in the Synthesizer and braille
manager; Does JAWS see the braille Edge among those listed? if another
braille display is still the default, then you will need to change that
and/or remove it, if JAWS still doesn't see the braille Edge. if there

[JAWS-Users] Disk Erasers

2013-08-13 Thread Steven Hicks
hello friends,

does anyone know if there are any accessible secure disk erasers that are
free and work well with access technology please?

A low level format is not quite what I am looking for, I am just looking for
something that it a bit more secure.

I used to use KillDisk but this is a MS-Dos based programme and to be
honest, the Windows version doesn't seem to be accessible.

Many thanks in anticipation,

Re: [JAWS-Users] jaws and braille display;

2013-08-13 Thread Flor Lynch

Hi David,

Is your OS 32-bit or 64-bit? This matters, as with 64-bit you have to
install and run the full .exe from the desktop. Else, the braille Edge
won't work properly. I needed to install generic drivers for the focus40
so that NVDA would work with the focus blue line of displays on my
Windows7 64-bit Toshiba laptop, and did it wrong the first time. Did you
follow the instructions on the Hims Web
site where the JAWS driver is downloadable. In its zip file is an
installation guide.

2013-08-13 Thread Brian Lee
Hello David,

I had the same problem until a HIMS tech had me download a newer USB driver.
I am using Windows 8 and a 64-bit system. There is a link below that you
can use to download the USB driver he had me install if you want to try it.
Your display should be in the USB mode. The switch on the side should be in
the position toward you. If it is slid toward the back then Bluetooth mode
is active. Terminal mode using a USB connection is what you want. You
should unload JAWS after installing the USB driver. Put the display in USB
mode with terminal mode chosen. After installing the USB driver you might
even want to turn the display off, unload JAWS, turn the display back on and
get it back into terminal mode using USB and reload JAWS. The link below is
for a zip file. You will need to open the .ZIP file to find the
installation file for the driver. I hope you get it working.

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/3951772/HIMS_USB_Driver_v25.zip

Take care.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Problem with Windows mail and WLM

Hi there everybody
I could finally manage to install two new versions of Outlook Express on
Windows 7. One is named Windows mail and the other one is
named Windows Live Mail 8. I know WM and WLM are not the same as OE, but I
mean the interfaces are very similar. Now I have two
problems with both versions. The first problem is, neither one reads the
number of unread messages in my Inbox. the very bad
problem is , JAWS does not distinguish between the read messages and unread
messages. It only keeps saying unread, unread, unread.
I tried that with both WM and WLM8. I also tried both of them with all these
versions of JAWS: 10, 11 and 13.

Is there any kind of solution, script, setting, manipulation, configuration
or newer version of WLM or JAWS that can solve this
problem? For example if I add a piece of code to the scripts, or I use newer
versions of WLM or I use JAWS 14, this problem can be
solved?

Thanks in Advance

Re: [JAWS-Users] Problem with Windows mail and WLM

2013-08-13 Thread Mike B.
Hi Java,

Try the following:

While in Windows Mail, with no messages open, Press Alt + E, for the edit
menu arrow down to mark as read or unread press enter. You may have to
play around a little with these settings to get your messages to be reported
the way you want but, this will hopefully get it done.

You can also press, control, shift, + O, for options, control + tab to the
read tab, Uncheck the 'mark message as read after displaying for' checkbox,
by
pressing spacebar, tab to apply, press the spacebar, tab to okay, press the
spacebar to save your change close options.
HTH
Take care.

Re: [JAWS-Users] JAWS install error- 'mirror display driver is not properly installed'

2013-08-13 Thread Don Cher Bosch
So, I uninstalled JFW including shared components, and reinstalled- then got
a message that a running program (JFW apparently) was incompatible with one
of the windows components. Called FS, who verified that to troubleshoot this
issue you need to make sure all important windows updates are installed, and
then check to see if there is an updated display driver available. I have
done that and JAWS seems to be working OK now- still crossing fingers :)

Re: [JAWS-Users] Problem with Windows mail and WLM

2013-08-13 Thread Hans Pauli Sundstein

Hi.

If you've problems with Jaws not reading unread for the new incomming
messages, do the following.

At first activate the Jaws cursor, and move it to a message that is unread.
Press Insert+v and type graphic in the search field, and change the graphic
verbosity from labeled to all.
Now find the graphic symbol infront of the senders name of the unread
message, and place the Jaws cursor on it.
Press insert+g to start the graphic labeler, and instead of the three digit
number for the graphic symbol, type in Unread message.
Save the change, and go back to the insert+v menu, and set back the graphic
verbosity from all to labeled.

Now, every time you comes to a message, that is unread, you should get this
information.
If you still are having problems with this, maximize the window, and it
should work.

It can be a good idea, to goto the settings area in Windows Live Mail
atfirst, alt+f than Settings - submenu, and e-mail, and from the reader tab
change the time for, how fast the program changes the icon from unread to
read, e.g. 60 second's, so there is time to make the changes without the
risk of, that the icon changes before action compleeted.

Good luck.

Hans Pauli.

Hello All,

At work I am using PowerPoint 2010 and JAWS 12 with Windows7. I need to
read the information in the Notes Pane of PowerPoint. The JAWS 12 help said
to use Control+Shift+n, but it does not work. FS Tech support confirmed
this and said that they think that this problem has been fixed in JAWS 14.
Does anyone know if this is the case? When using JAWS 14 can I create
and/or edit notes?

Thanks,
