[JAWS-Users] Apology!

2015-05-10 Thread David Moore
I want to apologise to all on this list. I had a bad weekend, but
did not have the excuse to take it out on you. Please forgive me. I
want to help all of you, and realize we are in different places with
technology. I am so happy that the nice person found the Insert key.
I knew it had to be on the laptop somewhere. One of my laptops has it
exacetly in the same place, above the function keys. When you get a
new computer, it is a adventure finding out where some keys are lol!
Thanks guys and take care. I like all of the posts from mike B, Ted,
Dave Carlson and all of you. It feels like I know you guys.

[JAWS-Users] Cursers with sighted users

2015-05-10 Thread David Moore
Hi all, I tried this command of ctrl + JAWS key + num pad minus in IE,
but the JAWS doesn't follow the Virtual curser like it does the
regular PC curser. I tried in a number of places and it works in
Word, and lists of files. If you press it twice, it will stay active
until you change it. I don't think this will work for us on HTML
pages though. I can't wait to hear from others about this Take ccare
all.

I've noticed lately that the subject line in this list at
times just keeps getting longer and longer. Here is an
example of what I mean from a recent post:

[JAWS-Users] [Bulk] Re: [Bulk] Re: [Bulk] Re: No insert key
on my new laptop keyboard

Why does this keep getting longer with the same words?

[JAWS-Users] Cursers with sighted users

2015-05-10 Thread David Moore
Congradulations Flor! I never never knew that command. I tried ctrl
+ JAWS key + num pad minus, and JAWS 16 latest update said JAWS curser
will follow the PC. That should mean that the mouse pointer will
follow where the PC curser is. Now, I will try this same command on
the Internet with the virtual curser. This could be huge, Floor,
because if the JAWS curser can follow the virtual curser, it seems
like what we are hearing is where the mouse pointer should be for a
sighted person to see. I will try in Ie and be back.

2015-05-10 Thread David Ferrin
There are almost 700 people on this list so there is no way in creation I
can possibly keep everybody happy. Granted some threads do drone on a bit
longer than I would even care to follow but I do that never the less to make
sure things stay on topic.

There have been times in the past where we have stopped threads from being a
never ending story, and this particular issue would have probably fell in
that category soon as well.

So now that it has been made an issue let's move on to the next major
disaster and let this fade into the past.

This is coming from a man who has a lot going on in his life besides
managing a mailing list. Most days I monitor things to make sure it is on
topic and everybody is getting along. Beyond that at times that's all I can
offer. Certainly this past week is a prime example, never the less everybody
move on to the next problem and let me get back to the New York Rangers
game.

week, all people are talking about is how wonderful it is to have Google on
the desktop. I press alt + CTRL + I for IE and M for fs. I have Google set
as my default search, so there I am in the edit box.
One day is fine to talk about these things but a week? Also, I just can't
hold back anymore from reading about this Insert C in word. It hasn't work
since word 2007, and that ends that subject. Seeing spripts in a message,
that is knowing something. What finally got me to send this message, is
because of the person that asked how to get to the address bar in IE. That
is like getting on this list and asking what is 2 + 2. This is not the
purpose of this list. If you take a minute to look through help materials
questions can get answered. I love this list; I have learned so much
concerning security that best works with JAWS, Working with audio and video,
and best of all, I never knew that you could convert Youtube videos into
Mp3. I am really taking advantage of that, and that is what usually what is
on this list. It's just for the last few days, people are talking about
very elementary stuff day after day. I love you guys, but could we talk

Subject: [JAWS-Users] JAWS 16 (latest) and Problems with Google Search

I use the latest version of JAWS 16, Win. 7 and IE 11.

It seems like after a recent update, I am encountering unusual problems with
JAWS which are frustrating and waste time to resolve. The only way to avoid
them and go back to a time when JAWS reads as it should is to unload JAWS 16
and launch JAWS 14. By doing this, all problems are alleviated. I do this
about 10 times every day now, so you can imagine the valuable time I am
wasting.

After I type my subject into the search edit field, then the program, JAWS
16, seems frozen and will not move or read. I go through hoops and loops
and eventually get it to read. Then, when I get down to the results, the
numbers before each different option is not read which is a real problem of
orientation. It is difficult to remember where to go back to in order to
enter and read results without any numeric representation. I waste a lot of
time each day now changing JAWS programs in order to get the program to
react as it should.

This does not happen on any other websites, including Yahoo or any others.

Does anybody else experience these problems? If so, how do you resolve them
without launching a different version of JAWS?

Eric Demery, if you are reading, perhaps you have some ideas why this all
changed abruptly after one of the recent JAWS 16 updates and how we can
resolve it as we work today?

Thank you for all suggestions and ideas.

Hi Miriam,

Does Jaws show in the system tray? If not this is probably why the
keystroke, Insert + J, isn't opening Jaws options. Try the following to get
Jaws to run from the system tray:
1. Alt + Tab to the Jaws window.
2. Press, Alt + the letter O, to open Jaws options.
3. Press enter on, Basics.
4. Tab to, Run JAWS from System Tray checkbox not checked, press the

5. Tab to, Okay, press enter to save your change close Jaws options.
6. Restart Jaws or your computer for the change to take place.

I'm using Jaws 13 and I wanted to get to the menu with insert J. It isn't
working. I wanted to turn Jaws off temporarily and turn it on again because
when I go to the links list, Jaws is only reading the first letter of the
name of the link. It does that occasionally and I find that if I turn Jaws
off and then on again, the problem is solved. But now insert J isn't getting
me to the menu. If I go to Jaws 13 on the desktop and press enter, nothing
happens either. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I think the list is getting from what it is suppose to be. For the
last week, all people are talking about is how wonderful it is to have
Google on the desktop. I press alt + CTRL + I for IE and M for fs. I
have Google set as my default search, so there I am in the edit box.
One day is fine to talk about these things but a week? Also, I just
can't hold back anymore from reading about this Insert C in word. It
hasn't work since word 2007, and that ends that subject. Seeing
spripts in a message, that is knowing something. What finally got me
to send this message, is because of the person that asked how to get
to the address bar in IE. That is like getting on this list and
asking what is 2 + 2. This is not the purpose of this list. If you
take a minute to look through help materials questions can get
answered. I love this list; I have learned so much concerning
security that best works with JAWS, Working with audio and video, and
best of all, I never knew that you could convert Youtube videos into
Mp3. I am really taking advantage of that, and that is what usually
what is on this list. It's just for the last few days, people are
talking about very elementary stuff day after day. I love you guys,
but could we talk about more than putting Google on the desktop and
this Insert C? Love in Christ, David Moore from Columbus, Ohio

Hi Flor,

This discussion has been an ongoing 1 on a couple of different lists' with
an answer never found. It almost seems like you need to have a mouse
pointer scheme set up but, I don't know how Jaws would react to altering the
mouse pointer scheme. I took a look at it but, I just don't have the smarts
or the inclination to screw up a good thing! LOL LOL

I rarely need a sighted person to look at something for me but, when that
occasion arises I use the Alt + Delete keystroke to tell me what the active
cursor its position is. Sometimes this helps sometimes it don't but,
between whatever sighted help is asissting me myself we manage to getter
done.
Take care.

For answers to

[JAWS-Users] No insert key

2015-05-10 Thread David Moore
Hi Alan, if you want to use the laptop layout for JAWS instead of the
desktop layout, here is what you do. Bring up the JAWS menu. Now,
open options menu. Then open basics. Start tabbing. There will be a
list of three different keyboard layouts. Arrow down to laptop. Tab
to Okay and press enter. Now, what you need to do is go to the help
section in JAWS and read the book on laptop key commands. If you do
not have a num pad, you have to learn a whole new set of commands. I
like these commands much better and use them on a desktop. For
example, the Caps lock is not the JAWS key. If you hold caps lock
down and press M comma or period, you will hear previous letter, the
current letter the cursor is on, or the period will give you the next
letter. J, K, and L work the same way but for previous, current, or
next word. U, I, and O do lines. This is much better than using the
numpad, because the commands are right at your finger tips. If you
are looking for a pure insert key, turn on keyboard help and tap keys
to the right of the function keys or down the very right hand side of
the keyboard. It may not say insert, but if you hear nothing when you
press keys, one of those would be an insert key.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] jaws menu

I'm using Jaws 13 and I wanted to get to the menu with insert J. It isn't
working. I wanted to turn Jaws off temporarily and turn it on again because
when I go to the links list, Jaws is only reading the first letter of the
name of the link. It does that occasionally and I find that if I turn Jaws
off and then on again, the problem is solved. But now insert J isn't getting
me to the menu. If I go to Jaws 13 on the desktop and press enter, nothing
happens either. Does anyone have any suggestions?

[JAWS-Users] No insert key

2015-05-10 Thread David Moore
I want to try to clear this up. The JAWS key enables someone to
perform a JAWS command. The Caps, insert, or other key you set as
your JAWS key does just that. The JAWS key allows you to perform JAWS
commands. What this person is saying is that they do not have ANY
insert key on their personal laptop to use if they want to use as a
true insert key. The insert key is on a computer to do more than
perform JAWS commands. They want to know what to do if they truly
want to use an insert key for other things besides using it as a JAWS
command. Sorry, I can't remember who this is, but do you mean that
your laptop has no insert key at all or do you mean that it has no num
pad insert key. All laptops I have worked with have an insert key
somewhere, even if, there is no num pad. I have two laptops that have
no num pad, but there is an insert key either on the very top row of
keys, usually it is to the right of the function keys. If it is not
there, it could be also be in a column of keys that goes down the very
right hand side of the keyboard. If there really is no insert key at
all on that laptop, that would be a first for me. You will have to
buy an external keyboard. BT keyboards are cheap and they work great!
 I wish you the best!

Re: [JAWS-Users] Jaws16 Another way to change languages on the fly?

2015-05-10 Thread Cristóbal
I've always found the automatic language detection to never work
satisfactorily. Not necessarily due to Jaws, but rather the fact that the
language formatting from webpage to webpage and document to document is so
inconsistent that Jaws changing languages becomes a major hit or miss
proposition. TO the point where I've for many versions of Jaws now, simply
turn that feature off all together.
Jaws has gotten overall better with multiple language stuff, but still even
with the latest innovations and voice profile management, switching
between languages is not terribly fluid.
I've always felt that some sort of enhanced combination of the dictionary
manager and flexible web type of feature where one could designate certain
domains or email addresses or documents to be spoken with a particular voice
profile or language would be best.
Being able to make a rule where domains ending in .es, .mx, .ar and so on or
email addresses where you know the language is going to be one other than
English be it from a particular address or a mailing list would be
automatically spoken in Spanish for example and with the desired rate of
speech and other parameters would be ideal.
Even now, if I want to visit a site with a Spanish language domain or PDF or
Word document, I still have to invoke keystrokes to go between one language
to the next. Being able to associate any of the examples above to another
voice profile and eliminating the toggle keystrokes would streamline the
process and make the overall user experience a lot more efficient.
It only seems intuitive that if you know absolutely that a site you're going
to visit or an email address you're going to write to or receive or document
you're going to work in will be in another language that Jaws will revert to
speaking in that corresponding voice without the need of keystrokes to
switch back and forth.
I've written to FS's suggestion email about this from time to time.

I am using the same keystroke to switch between english/spanish, for
example, I press Insert + window Key + 1 and if jaws is speacking in
English then switch to Spanish, and if jaws is speacking in Spanish, then
jaws switch to English.
How I do that?
Well, you press insert + 0 on the number row, the screipt manager will open.
Press control + shift + D, then you will open the default.jss file, it is
the default script of jaws, it works every where, not just on a specific
app.
Then go to the end of the default.jss file pressing control end key, like on
what ever text editor. Now if you want to take 2 keystrokes to switch
between English to Spanish and a second to switch between Spanish to English
then you will need to press more keystrokes, and modify the script. This
script is to switch between the current language to another language, and
vice bersa.
Now if you rather to use just one keystroke to switch between both
languages, do the following.
Press alt + s, the script menu is open, select new script. A dialog is going
to say something like ;
Script name, type the name of that script, not spaces, not special
characters, something like EnglishSpanish, or something that is going to
identify what the script does, then press tab and is going to ask you if the
new script can be attach to a key, select this check box, now press tab
until assign to, here you are going to press the keyboard command that you
want to use, you need to be careful that you will not use a keyboard command
that is use already by jaws, jaws will let you know if it is already used,
but you should not use a keyboard command used by windows or another
program. Then press tab on and press space bar on ok button.
Now you will be again on the script editor, copy and paste the script that I
gave you, remember that you are going to paste the code between the line
that say  the name of your script, for example;
Script EnglishSpanish
Here you are going to paste the code
EndScript

After you paste the code, press control s, then it is all, you can close

You might have figured it out already, but if not, here is what you can
 do
in Windows 7. After setting JAWS to start in the system tray, move to
 the
notification area using Windows key + B. Find the Notification Chevron
 button
and press spacebar on it. Use up arrow key to the Customize choice and
press enter key. If focus moves away from the notification area while
 using
up or down arrow key, move back to it using Windows key + B, and if
 necessary
use the chevron button again. After using the Customize button, use tab
 key
several times until you find Application file for JAWS. As you tab
 across
the window, you will find combo boxes for various programs. Each combo
 box
has three choices. In the combo box for the application file for JAWS,
 use
the up arrow key until the choice for showing JAWS in the notification

 is
in focus. Tab to the OK button and press spacebar. The JAWS icon
 should

[JAWS-Users] JAWS 16 (latest) and Problems with Google Search

2015-05-10 Thread Liuda Balcius

I just found that there are actually Laptop keys to do those functions.
 They are control+shift+CAPS lock+h and control+shift+CAPS lock+j. I prefer
the insert key. This is just a guess, but there is ;probably an insert key
on that laptop, but you have to hold down the function key to use it.
Hopefully the Laptop documentation will reveal some information.

 Hi

When you're using the Laptop keyboard layout, the CAPS Lock key is the
JAWSKey, but not the insert key. I do not believe it will put you in or
take you out of insert mode while typing. You can perform most of the JAWS
functions using the CAPS lock key, but not all of them. While using the
Laptop keyboard layout, there are a couple of functions that still require
the actual insert key. You have to use insert+h to bring up Hot key help.
Also you have to use insert+j to move to the JAWS window or bring up the

Hey All,

I just got a new laptop and there is no insert key on the keyboard. It
has been replaced by a double-sized delete key.

I use the caps lock for my jaws key so that's not the problem. But is
there some key combination I can utilize to invoke insert mode?

And who the heck thought this new keyboard design was a good idea? Why
do I need a double sized delete key anyway? Sheesh!

All suggestions welcome. I'm stuck with this laptop for reasons I
won't go into. Nor is an external keyboard the solution I would
choose. Any other ideas?

Thanks in advance.

have an idea. I am receiving an hp slip stream laptop this week and will want
to eventually upgrade as I will have windows 8.1. I am thinking of getting a
timed license but am wondering if it would be worth it or not since I would
have to keep renewing the lisence every 90 days. I am going to call fs
tomorrow and see what they say, but am just want to have an idea of this.
Thanks.

Hello Group,
Till couple of weeks back, I enjoyed chatting with my Facebook friends using
AIMS. Of lately, it seems we can no longer use this great facility.

Is there any other Apps, that can be used to import FB contacts and enjoy
chatting, accessible with JAWS?

Looking forward to hearing soon.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Keyboard issue

Hello list members,

I just purchased a new keyboard. An issue that I am having, (which I've had
in one way or another (most often with new keyboards is that when typing
spaces between words are not recognized. Also, letters are often left out of
some words, (particularly the U in the word You. As a result, even with
shorter email messages, or Word documents, I'm using spell check (sometimes
8-10 times to add a missing letter to a specific word, or to insert a space
between words.

It may be that I am typing too lightly and need to press harder on the
keyboard when I am typing and inserting spaces between words. I don't know?
What I do know is that this is frustrating. Is there a command within JAWS
that can fix this issue, or reduce its frequency of occurrence?

I would appreciate any help with this.

Best, Justin

Sorry, I can't find the email I saved with the instructions to have the jaws
cursor track the pc cursor. I think I lost it in a recent HD crash. I did
send it to a friend when I got it, so there is still hope that he still has
it. I checked the Jaws settings with j14 and saw a few places where the
virtual cursor could be turned off and I do remember from the instructions
that I had that the default setting is that jaws does not follow the pc
cursor. I'd check the different settings, but I have no sighted assistance
to tell if any changes have been made. I do believe that someone at freedom
Scientific should be able to tell you how to accomplish this, I know it is
possible. I'll keep trying to figure this out, but I have to call it a
night now, I seem to have lost my typing ability.

   Good luck,

your dropbox Icon actually isn't there. Either because Dropbox isn't running

It should be able to do that already. When you get an all files up to

yes, www.videolan.org has the latest VLC Player. In its latest incarnations

I had someone sighted look at the keyboard and he found the

I just found that there are actually Laptop keys to do those

 They are control+shift+CAPS lock+h and control+shift+CAPS

the insert key. This is just a guess, but there is ;probably an
insert

 Hi

When you're using the Laptop keyboard layout, the CAPS Lock key
is the
JAWSKey, but not the insert key. I do not believe it will put
you in or
take you out of insert mode while typing. You can perform most
of the
 JAWS
functions using the CAPS lock key, but not all of them. While
using the
Laptop keyboard layout, there are a couple of functions that
still require
the actual insert key. You have to use insert+h to bring up
Hot key
 help.
Also you have to use insert+j to move to the JAWS window or
bring up the
JAWS context menu if you're running JAWS from the system tray.
