Yes, me!

I do that jaws dump command to bring it back as it seems to pause for a long
while, and I'm using ie 11.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Latest JFW 16 update and eloquence pausing

Hello list,

So, adding to the list of issues discussed here with the latest JFW update
from earlier in the week, I am noticing that Jaws is pausing every now and
then when I’m making my way around webpages in Firefox. I use FF as my
primary browser so haven’t had the need to play with IE.

It mainly happens when I’m navigating around sites with the read by
paragraph, line, word or character commands. At first, I thought it may have
been an issue to a particular webpage, but as I’ve been moving around
online, I’m coming across it on all sorts of sites. It’s enough of a
hesitation where it interrupts one’s flow of getting around webpages.

Is anyone else experiencing this annoying issue with the latest Jaws update?

Thanks,

Cristobal

This was quite interesting. For two days there was a critical security
update for MS office 2010 that would fail every time. Finally I called the
accessibility support team. After two attempts they started running some
diagnostic and clean up tools. One of the first questions asked was if I
ever ran any registry cleaners. When I told him no he was glad to hear

Then he tried it again and it failed. He then wanted to uninstall office

Blocking for specific games is what I did, little by little.

I watched the FS podcast 109, and as I understand it, the JAWS updates and

There wasn't anything called 'Preferences' on my standard Google page, but

thing was though, that I could not check the button to turn off Google

1. Open preferences from the Google page.

You will be on the search settings tab. The list will look kind of like
this:

Search Settings

Search results
Languages
Location
Help

SafeSearch filters
SafeSearch
can help you block inappropriate or explicit images from your Google Search
results. The SafeSearch filter isn't 100% accurate, but it helps you avoid
most violent and adult content.
Turn on SafeSearch.
Turn on SafeSearch.
Lock SafeSearch

Google Instant predictions
When should we show you
results as you type?
Only when my computer is fast enough.
Always show Instant results.
Never show Instant results.

Results per page
50

Where results open
Open each selected result in a new browser window.
Open each selected result in a new browser window.

Search history
When signed in, you can receive more relevant results and recommendations
based on your search activity. You can turn off or edit your search history
at any time.
Save
Cancel

2. Below the search settings you will see other tabs that you don't want
right now: i.e. Search results, Languages, Location, Help.

3. The first thing is Safe Filter results which you can check if you don't
want explicit or violent sites.

4. The next thing is instant predictions. Here, to turn them off, you want
the third radio button.

5. If you want to change the results per pade, you can do so with the
slider. It is a bit challenging to adjust with a screen reader, but it can
be managed.

Finally, when you have things set up the way you want, click the Save
button.

Take my advice, I don't use it anyway.

[JAWS-Users] FW: Accessing voicemails in Skype 7.6 with Jaws

2015-06-24 Thread Cristóbal
Hello list,

So I had been putting it off for a while now, but I finally had to upgrade
my Skype 6.1 or whatever version I was running to the latest 7.6 as I wasn’t
able to log in otherwise.

Anyway, Everything seems more or less the same, but I am unable to access
voicemail messages as before and can’t figure out how else to access them.
Previously, I would just go into the view menu and the voicemail option
would be right there where I would then be placed in the list of VM’s (I
have a phone number). Am I just missing it or is there some other way to
access VM’s?

Thanks,

so don't mind them. There used to be a way to block game request for
specific games but I can't figure out how to do this now.

thanks,

Press enter on your computer icon on the desktop.
Arrow around until you see your external drive and press enter.
Paiste your document folder, and what ever else you want to back up to your

Hi All,

There is another common and irritating JAWS issue I sure hope FS can work
on. With internet browsers, JAWS will constantly repeat the title area of
a web page as it is loading. Hitting the control key does not stop the
repeated speaking of the title by JAWS. It can happen a dozen times or
more, depending on the web page. This happens with IE, Firefox, and
Chrome.

I did, I hit the power botton and waited an hour. A sighted
person viewed this error, "Windows didn't shut down correctly,
would you like to turn it on in safe mode?" Jaws doesn't even
speak that and they should fix this problem. I hit enter. First
I got a squealing sound and thed it starts up. I logon and hit
enter. Jaws cuts me off right away and the screen goes black
again. Then 10 minutes later, it got hot. The screen again
turned off. Just a cooling fan. I'm also starting to get

[JAWS-Users] Latest JFW 16 update and eloquence pausing

2015-06-24 Thread Cristóbal

Thanks,

Cristobal

Re: [JAWS-Users] finding the A V G dis able control

2015-06-24 Thread Lisle, Ted (CHFS DMS)
Will that work on 15? One of the reasons I abandoned AVG was my inability to
run system restore with it in place. I tried disabling it once, finally got
it, then couldn't reenable it. As I recall, I still couldn't do a successful
restore. When I finally get around to reenableing my Internet, I'll probably
take the advice of an IT friend, and several folks on this list, and try
Essentials. I understand 10 will do what Ms should have done all along, make
Defender a full-fledged protection program, including antivirus.

Hello David,

Here are a couple methods you can try. The first method is a JAWS method and
the second one is a Windows method.

JAWS Method

1. If using a desktop configuration use the insert key on the number
pad with function key 11. If using a laptop configuration use the caps lock
key with function key 11.

2. Press the letter A to find the AVG item.

3. Tab to the "Right single click button" in this dialog box and use
spacebar instead of enter key.

4. Use down arrow key to find the "Temporarily disable AVG protection"
item and press enter key.

Windows Method

1.Use insert with B if using a desktop configuration or caps lock
with B if using a laptop configuration.

2. Use up or down arrow key until you find the AVG item.
Note: If you don't find the AVG item and you know it is in the notification
area then press spacebar on the chevron button and then use either up or down
arrow keys. Also, I have found there are times when you need to use the
Windows key B command a second time to refocus in the notification area.

3. When you find the AVG item route JAWS cursor to PC cursor. For the
desktop configuration this is done by holding down the number pad insert key
and pressing the minus key. When using a laptop configuration you route JAWS
to PC using caps lock with the left bracket key, (which is to the right of P on
the keyboard).

4. Use a right mouse button click simulation by pressing the * key on
the number pad if using a desktop configuration or (if I remember correctly)
caps lock with the number 9 if using a laptop configuration).

5. Use down arrow to the "temporarily disable AVG protection" item and
use enter key.

Take care.

Hi Jorge.

When I press enter on AVG in my system tray, nothing happens. The only thing I
can do is to press the applications key and I don't find anything about
disabling at all. I have something totally different coming up. I have the
2015 free version. What else can I try? I would like to know how to disable
it if I have to as well.

I'm also starting to get
constant blue screen of death errrs too.

You have real problems. Press and hold your power button until
the fan shuts off and there is no activity. I recommend you wait
an hour to let your computer cool down. Then try to power on by
pressing the power button, with the computer connected to the ac
power charger. Do not touch anything for at least one hour after
starting, before you try to use JAWS to see if the computer is
functioning.

Hi, my computer cooling fan is on, however the computer wont even
turn on. When I do a restart, all I get is a squealing noise and
the hard drive spinning. When I try to type in my password
nothing happens. I close the lid and the fan stays on. Why is
it doing that?

No, same computer, black screen, cooling fan on, frozen and
  wont
wake up. The main operating system wont start, just the
computer. So basically I hold down the power butnon for 10
seconds. I hit the per button and nothing happens. A
sighted
person saw this error: "Windows did not shut down correctly,
would you like to turn it on in safe mode?" I hit the enter
key
on start windows normally. Then there is a blincking cursor,
  and
stays there for 10 minutes. Then the screen goes black,
  however
the cooling faar is steady and loud. Eghen hitting the power
button does nothing. So the main operating system doesn't
  start.

Re: [JAWS-Users] This Did Not Happen With the Previous JFW16.0 build

2015-06-24 Thread Tim Ford

Hi All,

There is another common and irritating JAWS issue I sure hope FS can work
on. With internet browsers, JAWS will constantly repeat the title area of a
web page as it is loading. Hitting the control key does not stop the
repeated speaking of the title by JAWS. It can happen a dozen times or
more, depending on the web page. This happens with IE, Firefox, and Chrome.

Re: [JAWS-Users] How to insurt bookmark in MS word file and find them later?

2015-06-24 Thread Brian Lee
In Microsoft Word, if you hold down the CTRL and shift keys, press function
key 5 and release the keys, you will be in the bookmarking dialog box. Type
the bookmark name being sure not to use any spaces between words. If the
bookmark contains more than one word then you can use a capital letter on
each word but don't use spacing. Tab to the Add button and use spacebar.
This enters the bookmark at the cursor position.

To go to your bookmark's list you can also use the CTRL with shift and
function key 5. Use up or down arrow key to find your bookmark and press
enter key. Press escape key to go back into your document and the cursor
should be at the chosen bookmark's position.

After I installed the latest JFW 16.0.3048 I hear a string like this when I
home up to the beginning of a message in Outlook Express:

Edit mhtml:{4383C9D8-43B0-4FDF-9351-F21AA1964515}mid://0014/

It also speaks when I first tab to the message body from the subject line.
This did not happen with the previous JFW 16.0 build, and I checked with JFW
15 and it does not happen.

This string is different for each message created whether new from scratch,
or as a reply.

Any one else hearing something like this if you use OE in Windows 7?

Hi

When the get windows 10 thing finally showed up in my system tray, I ran
the check your PC on a Windows 7 PC. Besides telling me that some older
versions of JAWS that are installed might not run under Windows 10, it told
me that Windows Media Center would be uninstalled and that it could not be
reinstalled in Windows 10. I have used Windows Media center with a TV card
on my computer to watch and record live TV for quite a while. So does
anyone know of another program that can be used to watch and/or record live
TV shows in Windows 10? Hopefully, there is an alternative that is more
JAWS friendly than Windows Media center, or at least as accessible with JAWS
as Windows Media center is, which is not much

Thanks for any suggestions.

I did, I hit the power botton and waited an hour. A sighted person viewed this
error, "Windows didn't shut down correctly, would you like to turn it on in
safe mode?" Jaws doesn't even speak that and they should fix this problem. I
hit enter. First I got a squealing sound and thed it starts up. I logon and
hit enter. Jaws cuts me off right away and the screen goes black again. Then
10 minutes later, it got hot. The screen again turned off. Just a cooling
fan. I'm also starting to get constant blue screen of death errrs too.

your suggestion didn't make any difference, thanks for the suggestion.

I don't use a USB DecTalk synthesizer but if you find that other USB

follow if you want to see if turning off the suspend mode makes a difference
for the DecTalk USB synthesizer.

1. type "power options" into the Windows search box.

2. Use down arrow to the "Change power-saving options" choice and
press enter key.

3. Tab to the "change plan settings" link for the plan you are using
and press the spacebar.

4. Tab to the Advance Power Settings link and use spacebar.
Focus should be in the combo box where you choose the plan.

5. Tab to the Settings tree view and use down arrow key until you get
to the USB settings item.

6. Use right arrow key to open a level in this tree view if JAWS says
it is closed.

7. Use down arrow to the "USB selective suspend setting and then use
right arrow to expand this level.

8. Arrow down to the Setting item and use right arrow key to find a
combo box where you can disable the suspend mode.

9. If the setting is enabled just arrow down to the "Disabled" option.

10. Press enter key to make your change.

Take care.

If I use one of the software synths with jaws I have speech.

If I use DECtalk USB with NVCA I have speech also.

Is there a setting in jaws I need to change or could this be a bug ?

Hi Shai,
I haven't noticed about backspacing versus deleting capital letters.
I wrote to Axol who make the dectalk and they said they thought it a bug
in the driver but didn't have any answers.

higher pitch when one backspaces verses when you write a capital
letter. Have you noticed this?

Oh right, thanks so much, in that case, I think I will go and pay for the 6.99
download.
Really appreciate your help.
Do you know how I actually get to the addon part to go to install it?
I looked on the web and it said go to the start menu then swipe left to the
search box but I couldn't figure out how to do that.
I think you need to search for add features but I tried this in the run box and
it didn't find any results.
I think that I will have to activate cmy copy of Windows 8 first, before
installing Windows Media Centre.

2015-06-24 Thread Kimsan
That did not work neither. I did the shift f10 route, which is esscentually the
same as the aps key.

All it did was ran through the general set-up, select language, create a
desktop icon and install. After it was completed, I checked to have it set to
launch, but nothing.
After running as admin, there was no admin stuff or permission stuff, it was
like the door was already unlocked and I just walked into the house to find out
nothing is working.

What the heck is going on with me, or my machine!

Hey, whatever works! LOL.
Try this, highlight the executable file, and right click on it! Shift plus F10
should allow you to reliably right-click on the file. then down Arrow to the
option that says"run as administrator". Press return and you may be prompted
for your administrator password or, permission to allow this application to run
as an administrative. Enter your password or press alt plus Y, Note, if alt
plus why doesn't work, tab to the yes button then press return.
This should allow the application to run correctly.
If this works, let us know please.
I'll then provide you step-by-step directions for allowing the executable to
always run as administrator.
