Re: [JAWS-Users] Locked out of Windows 10; Can a bonified MS person unlock computer

2015-11-17 Thread Neil Towery
Well, I took your advice. I am to get the computer back this morning,
without a password.
Not sure how I am going to proceed. I surely don't want to run into this
again.
I will keep the MS number you provided.
Thanks. Neil

Neil,
Since you have a person with vision handy, Perform a restore to go back
exactly 6 days.
Then, you can reinstall a new password.
And Windows 10 should still be good.
I ran into this number below:
MS tech reset password: 800-306-1557

If, it works, let me know...

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Locked out of Windows 10; Can a bonified MS person

Hello Gang:

After almost precisely one week of using Windows 10, I got locked out. I
was in the process of setting up an MS account, and even established a
password. But, somehow never got the account verified.

Now, Win 10 comes up asking for a password. It even shows the hint for the
password. But, it will not accept it. Nor, will it accept any other MS
passwords I have.

For the user name, which narrator does not read, it just has the first and
last name, with the proper capital letters, and a space between the first
and last name. My wife could see that.

I liked Windows 10, until this. The MS Help Desk worked mightily with me
and my wife, who is sighted. No luck.

We could not even roll back to Win 7. Needed the password to do that.

So, here is my question. Can a computer geek at the local shop push past
the password and unlock the computer? I would not mind investing a little
money into it. Probably an hour's worth of work.

So, I am looking for opinions.

 Thanks a bunch.

If you try and use it for 18, you won't be authorized. It will know that you've

Windows 10 Start Menu | Access Technology Institute, LLC

Kathy Ann Murtha

Access Technology Institute

www.blindtraining.com

Introduction

Windows 10 brings the return of the Start Menu. Open the Start Menu with
WINDOWS KEY or CTRL-ESCAPE. CTRL-ESCAPE is a throwback to the time before
keyboards had Windows keys.
The Start Menu consists of the following elements.

§ The Search Edit Field

§ The Start Menu List

§ Pinned Folders

§ All Apps

§ Modern Tiles

§ The Search Edit Field

The Start Menu Display

The Search field is at the bottom of the Start Menu. The top of the Start Menu
is split into two panes. On the left is the Start Menu list and on the right
are the modern tiles. Let's explore each of these elements in detail.

The Edit Field

When you first open the Start Menu, focus is placed in the Search edit field.
Through this search field, you can:

§ Launch Web Sites

§ Search for applications

§ Locate documents

§ Locate store apps

§ And more

Launch Websites from within the Start Menu

To launch a website from within the Start Menu, follow these steps: .

§ Open the Start Menu

§ Type a Web Site Address such as www.blind.training

§ Press ENTER

The web site is displayed in the window of the default browser.

 Search within the Start Menu

To locate items on your computer, focus in the search field and type a search
text string. For example, if you type "Word" all applications, Windows store
apps, documents and other items that have "Word" in the title are displayed.

The search list is navigated with UP AND DOWN ARROW. Notice the circular
navigation as you navigate. This is a common feature of Windows. When you reach
the last item, you return to the first. You can't get lost when navigating
within Windows.

When focused on an item you'd like to launch, press ENTER.

As you navigate the search results, the text within the edit field changes to
reflect the title of the focused item. The cursor is still in the edit field so
you can add or remove text to fine-tune your text string. To display only the
text you typed, focus on "My Stuff" or "Web." When focused on "My Stuff" or
"Web" the text string in the search edit fields returns to only the text you
input.

When you edit text within the search field, the search results are updated to
reflect the changes.

Close the Start Menu with ESCAPE

 The Start Menu List

Once again, open the Start Menu of Windows 10 with WNDOWS KEY or CTRL-ESCAPE.

On the left side of the Start Menu display is the Start Menu list. Navigate the
list with UP AND DOWN ARROW. Once again, notice the circular rotation. When
focus reaches the bottom, it returns to the top of the list.

The Start Menu List consists of:

§ User Account

§ Most Used Applications

§ Recently Added Applications

§ Places

§ All Apps

Navigate among the elements of the Start Menu with TAB and SHIFT-TAB or with UP
AND DOWN ARROW.

When using TAB and SHIFT-TAB focus moves among the primary elements of the
Start Menu as well as some Jump List buttons and the tiles on the right side of
the display. Once focused on a list you'd like to access, use UP AND DOWN ARROW
within the Start Menu list and ALL FOUR ARROWS in the list of tiles.

When navigating the Start Menu list with UP AND DOWN ARROW, focus is moved
among each applications and folder on the Start Menu.

Account

The account in which you're logged in is the first item in the Start Menu List.
Press ENTER on your User Account to open a drop-down list with options. The
options include:

§ Change Account Settings - This opens the Account Settings Window in which
you can make changes to your User Account

§ Lock - This option locks your computer and places focus on the Lock Screen

§ Sign Out - This option signs you out of the computer and places focus on the
login screen of Windows.

All drop-down lists in Windows are navigated in the same way. To navigate
drop-down lists:

§ Navigate the options with UP AND DOWN ARROW

§ Press ENTER to activate an option

§ Close the drop-down list without taking an action with ESCAPE.

Most Used Programs

The first items displayed in the Start Menu List are the programs you've
accessed most frequently on your computer. Navigate the list with UP AND DOWN
ARROW. To launch an application, press ENTER

Recently Added

Beneath the Most Used programs list is a list of applications you've recently
installed on your computer. This is a handy place to access applications you've
recently installed in case you

[JAWS-Users] memo regarding the guidelines

2015-11-17 Thread David Ferrin
I must point out my own error of last week regarding the list guidelines.

I was quite sure there was something in there regarding overly long
signature lines but obviously that never got beyond the planning stages to
implement.

For that I offer my apologies for my forgetting that fact and not making the
change years ago. Believe me this has come up several times over the years
and as a result I have multiple times been called a dictator for stepping on
a members' civil rights for asking them to shorten an overly long signature.

Never the less last week was on me so there you have it.

This is not the first time I have had to make such a post and it probably
won't be the last.

Now assuming that everybody on here is an adult we should be able to move on
with life going forward.

Hi Kevin,
Unfortunately,, as far as I know you can't save SMA's. If you don't install 17,
you still can't get 18 if you only have one SMA left. You've simply wasted your
SMA by not installing 17. Unless FS has changed something recently that is.

[JAWS-Users] JAWS and Sharepoint 2013

2015-11-17 Thread Ritz, Courtney L. (GSFC-7500)
Hi,

Anyone have experience using JAWS with Sharepoint 2013?
I've run into a problem when trying to use a couple Sharepoint sites here at
work.
With both JAWS versions 15 and 17, I have the same problem. The navigation
portion of the page reads well enough. But for everything passed that,
specificly paragraphs of text, JAWS seems to think each line is editable. It
speaks "Edit has pop-up" at the beginning of each line of text, and sometimes
"has pop-up" at the end of the line as well.
If Forms Mode is set to come on automaticly, it does whenever I arrow to a line
of text. It makes reading a simple section of text very tedious. So far, JAWS
announces hyperlinks correctly.

I'd love to tell our developers what to do to fix this, but I'm not sure if
it's a JAWS issue or what.
Anyone a similar experience or suggestions?

Thanks much!

Courtney

 Hi all,
I forgot to mention that you do not even need to have dropbox to
download
the tutorial from the link I gave you. You don't have to know how to
use it
or anything like that. All you guys need to do is enter on the link
in the
email, and a page will come up. Go to almost to the bottom of the
page and
there will be a download link, and press enter on that. Now, you can
save it
where you want on your computer. That is it. If you guys want to
learn how
to use Drop Box, I could teach you that in my next tutorial. Take
care, and
I hope you can download it and all will learn a lot about Chrome. I
am now
using it as my default browser. It is an hour audio tutorial and I go
over
all the basics of Chrome from browsing, to saving and getting to book
marks,
saving pages in different formats, downloading and saving files, and
much

more. Let me know how it goes downloading it.

Hello Gang:

Have a laptop with Win 10 and JAWS 17. I have no log in
password.

So, in the jaws "automatically start dialogue box," I do
not have the start jaws at the log on screen checked. I have
all others checked.

I had a password issue that has been resolved.

Now, when I start the computer from a cold start, jaws will
automatically start, as always. However, if I re-start the
computer, jaws will not automatically start.

Would checking the start at login screen fix this? If I do
that, will the computer stop coming up at the log on screen,
until I strike enter?

A little weird, since this has not been a problem in the
past.

Tried calling FS, all afternoon. Got a busy signal every
time.

 Thanks. Neil

I must point out my own error of last week regarding the list guidelines.

I was quite sure there was something in there regarding overly long

For that I offer my apologies for my forgetting that fact and not making the

before Vista came out, I had a problem with logging into XP, and the local

[JAWS-Users] A tip for the Settings center area in w-10

2015-11-17 Thread jim
Good morning Jaws Users group!
A fast way of finding a setting in the Settings center area of w-10, is to do
this:
1. Press windows key+I, for settings.
2. Shift+tab to, Search box, find a setting edit.
3. Type what you are looking for, do not press enter.
4. Tab one time to, the results list.
5. Use your arrow keys to find what you are looking for, press Enter.
6. If you do not see what you are looking for, Shift+Tab back to the search
edit.
7. Modify your search term, tab back to the results list.
8. Use your arrow keys again, to search through the sub categories, press enter
on the one you want.
This is a fast way to search settings in w-10.
After the latest update of w-10, we have many extra sub categories, and
additions to existing sub categories.
I hope this helps all of you to find what you are looking for in w-10.

[JAWS-Users] JAWS and Icloud

2015-11-17 Thread Justin McDevitt
Hello listmembers,

Having recently had my Iphone stolen, I just created an Icloud account to
back up specific files and other content. I would also like to use JAWS with
Icloud to begin developing a contacts list as filling in the contact fields
would be quicker using JAWS, than the touch screen on my Iphone.

I noticed a few glitches with JAWS and Icloud, initially when I opened
contacts and my wife informed me that in order to add anew contact, I had to
click on a +-sign at the bottom of the screen which didn't appear to be
accessible using JAWS.

Are there any work-arounds or scripts for JAWS and the Icloud? If not what
are some things do be aware of.

Best, Justin

  Hi all,
I forgot to mention that you do not even need to have dropbox to
download
the tutorial from the link I gave you. You don't have to know how to
use it
or anything like that. All you guys need to do is enter on the link

page and
there will be a download link, and press enter on that. Now, you can
save it
where you want on your computer. That is it. If you guys want to
learn how
to use Drop Box, I could teach you that in my next tutorial. Take
care, and
I hope you can download it and all will learn a lot about Chrome. I
am now
using it as my default browser. It is an hour audio tutorial and I go
over
all the basics of Chrome from browsing, to saving and getting to book

saving pages in different formats, downloading and saving files, and
much
more. Let me know how it goes downloading it.

So, in the jaws "automatically start dialogue box," I do not have the start
jaws at the log on screen checked. I have all others checked.

I had a password issue that has been resolved.

Now, when I start the computer from a cold start, jaws will automatically
start, as always. However, if I re-start the computer, jaws will not
automatically start.

Would checking the start at login screen fix this? If I do that, will the
computer stop coming up at the log on screen, until I strike enter?

A little weird, since this has not been a problem in the past.

Tried calling FS, all afternoon. Got a busy signal every time.

 Thanks. Neil
