With it sometimes. I know with 10, you have a choice to do it now or later. I am sure someone will correct me if I am wrong. Then you'll get a notification when your upgrade is ready to install. That way you can start using Windows 10 immediately - or schedule a time to install that's convenient for you. If you have any more questions, check out the upgrade FAQ. Read the FAQ... This is a large download and there are a lot of us who will be getting this download. So I suspect that MS cannot get it all done today. The way I understand it, since I asked to be advised when the windows 10 download is on my computer and it is ready to be installed, I will be given notification from MS. That said, I plan to wait on doing the install on this computer. I did however order a new laptop last night that will come with windows 10 installed on it and I will use that as my computer to learn Windows 10 and keep using windows 7 on this computer I am using. From what I have read, Windows 10 should be a good product and the new laptop I purchased is to replace an old 7 year old laptop running windows vista. So I will be glad to have both computers running the same operating system and office suite. I sure hope the replacement for IE 11 will prove to be good. I am so tired of having IE 11 crash or not even work on some web sites. So glad I do have the Mozilla option for now that many on this list encouraged me to download and install. Peaceful evening. No. Using jaws 15 and the free version 2015. -Original Message- From: Tom Behler Sent: Thursday, May 14, 2015 6:14 AM To: Jaws users list Subject: [JAWS-Users] Jaws And Anti-virus Hello, everyone. You may recall that, a few days ago, I was having trouble with a program on my computer running in the background, and interfering with Jaws. Originally, I thought the problem was with Java. Apparently, the problem was not with Java, but was with the latest version of the AVG anti-virus software. I think the version number is AVG 15. Last night, an AVG update occurred, which literally made Jaws totally unusable. I've now completely uninstalled AVG, and Jaws works perfectly. Has anyone else had this problem with AVG, and if so, how did you deal with it? If AVG is not the most Jaws-friendly anti-virus program to be using with Jaws, does someone have recommendations for a more Jaws-friendly anti-virus program? I'd prefer to stick with free anti-virus software if possible. Any help would be appreciated, since I am not comfortable running this computer without anti-virus software. For the record, I'm using Jaws 14 on this windows 7 computer. It has characteristics of both Google Chrome and Firefox. Adobe Flash Player is an independent software package. However, be assured that Adobe is no fool. I'm sure that their software is already compatible or that they will come out with one of their new updates which will render it workable with Windows 10. Will it be accessible with jaws? I have never found a Microsoft major software package that wasn't accessible with Jaws. As for Sparton, I tried to try it, and got nowhere. The only thing that almost worked was using the touch cursor commands, but I was unable to find the address bar. No surprise though, it is likely to take a bit for screen readers to get a handle on things with that, those virtual buffers tend to be tricky in that controls they aren't supporting just don't get any support at all. It isn't like a native interface where you can try to work around issues and it still mostly works. I wasn't recommending Malware Byite pro as an anti virus program. I was merely clarifying that it's protection is real time rather than an after the fact as it is in the free version. I thought I was indicating that it should be run in conjunction with an antivirus program and wouldn't be incompatible with that. As for the accessibility, I can't/won't really comment on that. It is, to some extent, in the eyes of the user. -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Steve Sent: Saturday, March 28, 2015 12:51 PM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: [JAWS-Users] MalwareBytes Pro Myth and Anti-Virus Recommendations Just a note on the anti-virus discussion. I think it was yesterday that possibly Cliff recommended using malwarebytes Professional as an anti-virus program. Two points on this: First, unless the latest iteration of malwarebytes has improved accessibility, I don't like its interface. They completely broke accessibility in version 2.0, they did improve it in 2.0.4 but you have to go through hoops to view the log of what it proposes to delete. I don't want it recognizing a program I use as a PUP and then deleting or quarantining it. You have to export the log to notepad in order to see it. Not good last time I used that. Second, MalwareBytes Pro recognizes a lot of zero-day exploits, but it is not, as I understand it, intended as a substitute for an anti-virus program. Their spokesperson stated as such in a Lifehacker article, where he pointed out that it wasn't aiming at the traditional anti-virus market. See http://lifehacker.com/the-difference-between-antivirus-and-anti-malware-and-1176942277 As for AVG, it really isn't much better than MSSE. I'll link to an article which has a link to the AV Comparatives test of some of the anti-virus programs. Their top-rated anti-virus programs are Avast! and Bit-Defender. I haven't used Avast in awhile so can't comment on its accessibility, but it had a more complex layout. Their second-ratedd product, Bit Defender, scored nearly as highly for basic anti-virus protection but doesn't have all the bells and whistles that Avast had. I haven't evaluated Bit Defender in several years, so I don't know if the program is accessible. I used to get my jollies evaluating different AV programs for accessibility, but now that some of them are more complicated to uninstall and I don't always have a pair of eyes to go into safe mode or click a button with the mouse within thirty seconds...well, you get the picture. Here's the link to the article: http://lifehacker.com/5865356/the-best-antivirus-app-for-windows Take my advice, I don't use it anyway. [JAWS-Users] webroot
This is the email I got from the techniqual support. Nice that they tested it with jaws just to see if will work for blind nuts like me. Thank you for reaching out to us today. WSA has not been optimized to work with any screen reader... WSA has not been optimized to work with any screen reader programs. Navigating WSA with JAWS can be difficult and frustrating for visually impaired users, but it is possible and the content is read out loud. We were successful in using Jaws 14 with WSA ourselves. Please make sure your JAWS software is up to date. Our recommendation would be that once WSA is installed it be left alone, simply because it can be tricky to navigate, and instead to use the WSA Tray Icon to get a quick reading as to the status of the WSA application. To list the System Tray Icons List you would use INSERT+F11 and when moving through the list the Webroot product will indicate it is protecting the system (such as “Webroot SecureAnywhere v8.0.2.147 – Protected”) or the system is infected (such as “Webroot SecureAnywhere v8.0.2.147 – Infected”). With Windows 7, the system tray may not show WSA since it typically only displays 3 icons, but WSA can be forced to always be displayed there. Press the Windows key + B, then press Shift + F10. From the options, select Customize notification icons, then select Webroot, and then select Show icon and notifications. The 'Skim Reading' function, which is invoked using INSERT+CTRL+DOWN ARROW, can read the Webroot screen. The Skim Reading Dialog configuration Box can be brought up using INSERT+CTRL+SHIFT+DOWN ARROW. If you lose focus on the WSA program and want to bring it to the foreground the command INSERT+F10 does the trick. You can use an arrow key until you hear “Webroot SecureAnywhere” and then press the NUMPAD SLASH key to perform a left-mouse-click and then the Enter key to select. To install SecureAnywhere: 1. Download WSA and start the installer, the Installation screen is presented. 2. Click the NUMPAD MINUS key to activate the Jaws curser. 3. Use up/down arrow keys to listen for “Enter your keycode to install and activate your software”, you may have to use the right arrow key to move over to this text which is read out loud when moving across it. Then press the NUMPAD SLASH key to perform a left-mouse-click. 4. Enter your keycode and hit the Enter key. 5. If a User Account Control message appears, select Yes. Here is the letter I sent to the group a while back about the program: I read about the webroot security program on the Kim Komando website and decided to try the free trial just to see if I could manage it with Jaws. I did do research on it first and was especially influenced by the article in PC magazine. http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2470312,00.asp It is a web based program and will work even with another anti virus installed. I have Vipre but am totally paranoid about security since I do much online banking and shopping. The following link is a page that gives detailed information about the features of the program. In IE you can click on a feature and read the details. This did not work in Firefox. http://www.webroot.com/us/en/support/how-to-updates??utm_source=consumer-receiptutm_medium=emailutm_campaign=Learn%20More%20-%20Receipt I was able to install the program by myself although all interaction is through the Jaws cursor. Many settings are automatic and it shows up in the System Tray and tells you whether protection is on. Several choices are available when using the applications key on the System Tray icon. The main screen takes some patience using the Jaws cursor and the left mouse simulation key. I have spent much time yesterday and today to see just how well I was able to use the program with Jaws. Most of the settings are automatic so it is not necessary to change much. What I especially like is that they have an online console where you can find the information and it works well with Jaws and IE 11.It is a bit strange that you can press enter on many items on the webpage that are not marked as links but they work that way and allow the information to appear at the end of the list of choices. This did not work with Firefox which I generally use as my default browser. Also, when doing Google searches in IE Webroot gives an evaluation of each link which jaws reads. This does not work with jaws in Firefox. If you are interested in learning about the program or buying it at half price then go through the following link on the Kim Komando website. http://www.webroot.com/us/en/home/promotions/kim?utm_source=komandoutm_medium=komando-bannerutm_campaign=komando On Kim's site there is an option to download a free trial which I did and after the two weeks I decided to buy the program. But you can't just click on the Buy It button in the trial or they charge you the full price. You have to go back to the Kim Komando page and click buy it. This, too, works better in IE since the purchase page includes a $10 for a CD of the program which is totally unnecessary. I was able to uncheck the box using IE but not using Firefox. There is also a comparison chart for the three levels of protection. I decided to go for the second level, the Internet Security for 3 computers or gadgets because of the extra identity protection feature. The antivirus is $19, the Internet Security is $29 and the Complete is $39 and includes 25 G of online back up. I don't want to mislead anyone that it is totally accessible with Jaws but it mostly is and I am pleased so far as most settings are automatic and I don't need the really advanced stuff.
