With it sometimes. I know with 10, you have a choice to do it now or later.
I am sure someone will correct me if I am wrong. I am not even thinking of
installing it until Spring of next year.

Hi Holger,

Won't this depend on what Windows Updates setting you have selected? For
example, if you have, Install Updates Automatically, selected in Windows
Updates settings, will you still get the option to download / install the
Windows 10 upgrade?
Take care.

I so article in yahoo stating that it will ask you if you want to install or
wait. Similar to any other update in which it will download but you have a
choice of installing.

If you have Install Updates Automatically checked the

you will be in for a rude surprise. If you have either,
Download updates but let me choose whether to install them

Kevin here is the note about the upgrade on installing windows 10
that was
in the message you said you deleted:
...Because you've reserved, Windows will automatically take care
of the
download in advance. Then you'll get a notification when your
upgrade is
ready to install. That way you can start using Windows 10
immediately - or
schedule a time to install that's convenient for you. If you
have any more
questions, check out the upgrade FAQ.
Read the FAQ...

This is a large download and there are a lot of us who will be
getting this
download. So I suspect that MS cannot get it all done today.
The way I
understand it, since I asked to be advised when the windows 10
download is
on my computer and it is ready to be installed, I will be given
notification
from MS.
That said, I plan to wait on doing the install on this computer.
I did
however order a new laptop last night that will come with windows
10
installed on it and I will use that as my computer to learn
Windows 10 and
keep using windows 7 on this computer I am using.

From what I have read, Windows 10 should be a good product and

the new
laptop I purchased is to replace an old 7 year old laptop running
windows
vista. So I will be glad to have both computers running the same
operating
system and office suite.
I sure hope the replacement for IE 11 will prove to be good. I
am so tired
of having IE 11 crash or not even work on some web sites. So
glad I do have
the Mozilla option for now that many on this list encouraged me
to download
and install.
Peaceful evening.

I just used the Microsoft safety scanner. My vipre anti-virus locked a file
determined to be a Trojan. I followed up with the Microsoft safety scanner
in quick mode. It identified two more Trojans and removed them. I just
started a full scan although I think that the computer is clean now.
That utility worked great with jaws and is only good for ten days. After
that you must download it again. It is not designed to replace your
anti-virus software but to work with it. Just another utility for the tool
box.

Tonight I was at a meeting where I brought up the free window's 10 for OS 7
and 8, this was not a group of blind computer users.

A discussion began on the fact I said it was free while they stated it was
free, but you had to also pay $99 per year for a maintenance fee for the
software.

I hadn't heard that, so just wanted to ask if this is true?

Thanks,

the f6 key is just like pressing the tab key, it does not
jump across various controls like in itunes 12.1.
there is a new service called Apple music, some kind of a
streaming service.
I will have to play with it more, once I got it started I
could not stop it.
over all, every thing works, there are just extra edit
fields between your artist, albums, and music list.
extra check boxes across the top as well, like, for you,
new, connect to, are some of the new things.
Freedom Scientific needs to take a look when they can, and
at least get the f6 key working again.
So with a lot of tabbing around, itunes 12.2 does work very
good with the latest jaws 16 release.

everything is remove from any old jaws version. The new Edge will not work with
jaws 16 so they suggest that you go to default program and setup IE as
default after installing 10.

Hello, everyone.

I'm still having issues typing characters into the edit box when on the
internet with my home Windows 7 PC.

I can arrow down or tab until I hear the forms mode sound, but when I
type,

nothing gets entered into the edit box.

I had someone sighted check, and nothing gets entered onto the screen when
I

do the typing in forms mode, even though the sound indicates I'm in forms
mode.

I find the issue both in Internet Explorer and in Firefox. And, I have
tried performing searches on several different web sites where info needs
to

be entered into the search box.

Is there a Jaws or other setting I should check to troubleshoot the issue?

For the record, I'm using Jaws 14 on this particular computer.

Thank you!

The free version does not expire. It might need updating, but it remains
free. It sounds as if you're using a trial copy of the paid version. If
that's the case, you can decide to purchase the pro version, price will
depend upon where and what you purchase, or you can uninstall the trial

Hi,
The only way to view a scan is to copy it to the clipboard after you select
the .txt file, press enter there.
Then paste it somewhere.

Or save it to my documents folder,
I tab down to the desktop click, I up arrow once to my documents.
Then, I tab and view that it is going to my documents,
One tab and you should hear the first folder in my documents.

Then, I tab to the save button.

It seems that I'm doing it right, but is not saving to my documents to view.

You can play with the jaws currsors, but it is not going to save the
Malwarebytes report to your document folder.

Can anyone add some help?

Use the enter key for the double-tap. If you want your PC cursor back, just

How were you able to actually use it.

When I went to use it, it was completely inaccessible, and even the OCR
function of Jaws couldn't pick up any text in the window.

Can you give us some tips?

Thanks.

Hi all,

I would like to find out which anti-virus program works best with JFW V. 16.
I am presently using Symantec on a Windows 7 64-bit Del. I believe my sticky
control key problem with JFW might be due to my use of Symantec so I want to
try a different anti-virus program to determine if the JFW problem can be
resolved. Thanks.

Cheers,

Rob

I was wondering if Malwarebytes is a good program for removing adware and if
it can be used with JAWS 16? Also Is the free version work with JAWS or does
a person need the premium version? Any other suggestions on removing adware

JAWS should work fine with Malware Bytes Version 2.16..., this is the latest
version, and I am now having no trouble between the programs. I do use the
Premium version, and it might be worth checking with Malware Bytes.org
support to see if the free version has been updated to the sme standards of
accexxeibility. It seems that I do know people who are running the free
version, however, and are having no troubles with it. It could be the
version of JAWS that you are using. This could also be checked out through
Malware Bytes support.

Hello, everyone.

You may recall that, a few days ago, I was having trouble with a program on
my computer running in the background, and interfering with Jaws.

Originally, I thought the problem was with Java.

Apparently, the problem was not with Java, but was with the latest version
of the AVG anti-virus software. I think the version number is AVG 15.

Last night, an AVG update occurred, which literally made Jaws totally
unusable.

I've now completely uninstalled AVG, and Jaws works perfectly.

Has anyone else had this problem with AVG, and if so, how did you deal with
it?

If AVG is not the most Jaws-friendly anti-virus program to be using with
Jaws, does someone have recommendations for a more Jaws-friendly anti-virus
program?

I'd prefer to stick with free anti-virus software if possible.

Any help would be appreciated, since I am not comfortable running this
computer without anti-virus software.

For the record, I'm using Jaws 14 on this windows 7 computer.

Dr. Tom Behler from Michigan

Select all of the text in the PDF file using Control + A, then past it into
a Word document with Control +V. Now edit your document as you need to. If
you need it in PDF format again, use Adobe to convert the modified document
into that format.

Hi.
Keeping up those SMA's is a good idea, especially now that it can be
done more cheaply for those who are able to use the home license for 120
dollars every 2 years which really isn't too awful bad a deal as long as
we have a stable and fast product. If one feels the cost of keeping jaws
isn't more than jaws is worth, then maybe it be time to try something
else? I'm really glad we have so many choices to do \so, though I think
I'd better stop before someone decides I'm going off topic *grin*.

Cortana, excuse any typos, doesn't work too well on my netbook, but I'm
willing to believe that I'm not using it properly and perhaps my
computer isn't the best example in any case. As for Sparton, I tried to
try it, and got nowhere. The only thing that almost worked was using the
touch cursor commands, but I was unable to find the address bar.

No surprise though, it is likely to take a bit for screen readers to get
a handle on things with that, those virtual buffers tend to be tricky in
that controls they aren't supporting just don't get any support at all.
It isn't like a native interface where you can try to work around issues

Bob, I can answer some of these questions but not all of them, yet.

How did you find out that Microsoft is no longer going to use internet
explorer for windows 10?

That information has been available for quite some time. If you were to
Google Windows 10, you would find that information. In addition,
Freedom
Scientific and Microsoft always work in tandem and make sure that any
new

software they come out with is compatible.

Can you tell me a little bit about Spartan? Will it be accessible with
jaws?

and can you use adobe flash player with it?

Spartan is a search engine built with Google Chrome and Firefox as the
initial platform. It has characteristics of both Google Chrome and
Firefox.

Adobe Flash Player is an independent software package. However, be
assured
that Adobe is no fool. I'm sure that their software is already
compatible
or that they will come out with one of their new updates which will
render

it workable with Windows 10.

Will it be accessible with jaws?

I have never found a Microsoft major software package that wasn't
accessible
with Jaws. Some of the elements in Microsoft Office aren't Jaws
friendly
but for the most part, there hasn't been a Microsoft operating system
that

Jaws couldn't work with.

Could I also use Free YouTube to MP3 converter to download and convert
music

videos to mp3?

Again, you are asking about software which operates independently from
the

Windows operating system. I don't see any compatibility issues but only
time will tell.

Will I need to install Spartan if I upgrade to windows 10? Or, does it
come

installed with windows 10?

Windows 10 will use Spartan in the same way as prior versions used

Why is it, that internet explorer is being replaced?

In the past two years, Microsoft has reported thousands of instances in
which Internet Explorer was used as a gateway into personal and
commercial

computer systems. Although Microsoft has attempted to recognize and deal
with these situations, it was determined that the most reliable way of
handling all of these intrusions was to develop and implement a
completely

new search engine. That is what will be done with the introduction of
Windows 10 and The Spartan search facility.

I'm using Jaws latest and windows 7 64 bit. It appears the latest version of
Dropbox v3.4.3 has changed. Now, when I hit enter on dropbox from the system
tray I get a context menu where the first item is open.
When I enter on open sometimes I get the list of folders and other times I
get what appears to me as a splash screen but not the folders.
However, it's never consistent. If I hit the alt key I'll get the system
menu for move minimize and at other times I'll get the folders. Is there a
fix?

Research it is a nifty tool that we can easily access to gain information
and access sites like wicapedia and a dictionary called wictionary. Do the
following:

1.Jaws key and space bar plus the letter R

2. Tab once

3. Press the first letter of site you want. For example if you want
the top ten news items on Reuters press R, for CNN press C, for MLB (major
league baseball) press M etc. If you need a dictionary definition put the
word you want to look up in the edit box when you access the site, tab once
and press w plus the enter key. The word will be researched.

4. I hope I got it right, Judith

Just one word in defense. I wasn't recommending Malware Byite pro as an

time rather than an after the fact as it is in the free version. I thought
I was indicating that it should be run in conjunction with an antivirus
program and wouldn't be incompatible with that.

As for the accessibility, I can't/won't really comment on that. It is, to
some extent, in the eyes of the user.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] MalwareBytes Pro Myth and Anti-Virus Recommendations

Just a note on the anti-virus discussion.

I think it was yesterday that possibly Cliff recommended using malwarebytes
Professional as an anti-virus program.

Two points on this:
First, unless the latest iteration of malwarebytes has improved
accessibility, I don't like its interface. They completely broke
accessibility in version 2.0, they did improve it in 2.0.4 but you have to
go through hoops to view the log of what it proposes to delete. I don't
want it recognizing a program I use as a PUP and then deleting or
quarantining it. You have to export the log to notepad in order to see it.
Not good last time I used that.

Second, MalwareBytes Pro recognizes a lot of zero-day exploits, but it is
not, as I understand it, intended as a substitute for an anti-virus program.
Their spokesperson stated as such in a Lifehacker article, where he pointed
out that it wasn't aiming at the traditional anti-virus market. See

http://lifehacker.com/the-difference-between-antivirus-and-anti-malware-and-1176942277

As for AVG, it really isn't much better than MSSE. I'll link to an article
which has a link to the AV Comparatives test of some of the anti-virus
programs.

Their top-rated anti-virus programs are Avast! and Bit-Defender. I haven't
used Avast in awhile so can't comment on its accessibility, but it had a
more complex layout. Their second-ratedd product, Bit Defender, scored
nearly as highly for basic anti-virus protection but doesn't have all the
bells and whistles that Avast had. I haven't evaluated Bit Defender in
several years, so I don't know if the program is accessible. I used to get
my jollies evaluating different AV programs for accessibility, but now that
some of them are more complicated to uninstall and I don't always have a
pair of eyes to go into safe mode or click a button with the mouse within
thirty seconds...well, you get the picture.

Here's the link to the article:
http://lifehacker.com/5865356/the-best-antivirus-app-for-windows

Take my advice, I don't use it anyway.

[JAWS-Users] webroot

2015-03-23 Thread Holger Fiallo
This is the email I got from the techniqual support. Nice that they tested it
with jaws just to see if will work for blind nuts like me.
Thank you for reaching out to us today.

WSA has not been optimized to work with any screen reader...
WSA has not been optimized to work with any screen reader programs. Navigating
WSA with JAWS can be difficult and frustrating for visually impaired users, but
it is possible and the content is read out loud. We were successful in using
Jaws 14 with WSA ourselves. Please make sure your JAWS software is up to date.

Our recommendation would be that once WSA is installed it be left alone, simply
because it can be tricky to navigate, and instead to use the WSA Tray Icon to
get a quick reading as to the status of the WSA application. To list the System
Tray Icons List you would use INSERT+F11 and when moving through the list the
Webroot product will indicate it is protecting the system (such as “Webroot
SecureAnywhere v8.0.2.147 – Protected”) or the system is infected (such as
“Webroot SecureAnywhere v8.0.2.147 – Infected”).

With Windows 7, the system tray may not show WSA since it typically only
displays 3 icons, but WSA can be forced to always be displayed there. Press
the Windows key + B, then press Shift + F10. From the options, select
Customize notification icons, then select Webroot, and then select Show icon
and notifications.

The 'Skim Reading' function, which is invoked using INSERT+CTRL+DOWN ARROW, can
read the Webroot screen. The Skim Reading Dialog configuration Box can be
brought up using INSERT+CTRL+SHIFT+DOWN ARROW.

If you lose focus on the WSA program and want to bring it to the foreground the
command INSERT+F10 does the trick. You can use an arrow key until you hear
“Webroot SecureAnywhere” and then press the NUMPAD SLASH key to perform a
left-mouse-click and then the Enter key to select.

To install SecureAnywhere:

1. Download WSA and start the installer, the Installation screen is presented.
2. Click the NUMPAD MINUS key to activate the Jaws curser.
3. Use up/down arrow keys to listen for “Enter your keycode to install and
activate your software”, you may have to use the right arrow key to move over
to this text which is read out loud when moving across it. Then press the
NUMPAD SLASH key to perform a left-mouse-click.
4. Enter your keycode and hit the Enter key.
5. If a User Account Control message appears, select Yes.

If you have already downloaded the newest version of JAWS or are still
encountering difficulties please contact tech support at 1-866-612-4227.

Thank you

Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] Webroot SecureAnywhere AntiVirus

I like this antivirus and find it usable although only with Jaws cursor on
the laptop. It runs pretty much automatically and doesn't require much
oversight. I like that it has an internet console to control several
functions. I especially like that it works with another antivirus
installed.. I have Vipre as well. Here is the letter I sent to the group a
while back about the program:

I read about the webroot security program on the Kim Komando website and
decided to try the free trial just to see if I could manage it with Jaws. I
did do research on it first and was especially influenced by the article in
PC magazine.
http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2470312,00.asp

It is a web based program and will work even with another anti virus
installed. I have Vipre but am totally paranoid about security since I do
much online banking and shopping.

The following link is a page that gives detailed information about the
features of the program.
In IE you can click on a feature and read the details. This did not work in
Firefox.
http://www.webroot.com/us/en/support/how-to-updates??utm_source=consumer-receiptutm_medium=emailutm_campaign=Learn%20More%20-%20Receipt
I was able to install the program by myself although all interaction is
through the Jaws cursor. Many settings are automatic and it shows up in the
System Tray and tells you whether protection is on. Several choices are
available when using the applications key on the System Tray icon.
The main screen takes some patience using the Jaws cursor and the left mouse
simulation key.
I have spent much time yesterday and today to see just how well I was able
to use the program with Jaws. Most of the settings are automatic so it is
not necessary to change much.
What I especially like is that they have an online console where you can
find the information and it works well with Jaws and IE 11.It is a bit
strange that you can press enter on many items on the webpage that are not
marked as links but they work that way and allow the information to appear
at the end of the list of choices. This did not work with Firefox which I
generally use as my default browser. Also, when doing Google searches in IE
Webroot gives an evaluation of each link which jaws reads. This does not
work with jaws in Firefox.

If you are interested in learning about the program or buying it at half
price then go through the following link on the Kim Komando website.
http://www.webroot.com/us/en/home/promotions/kim?utm_source=komandoutm_medium=komando-bannerutm_campaign=komando

On Kim's site there is an option to download a free trial which I did and
after the two weeks I decided to buy the program. But you can't just click
on the Buy It button in the trial or they charge you the full price. You
have to go back to the Kim Komando page and click buy it. This, too, works
better in IE since the purchase page includes a $10 for a CD of the program
which is totally unnecessary. I was able to uncheck the box using IE but
not using Firefox.

There is also a comparison chart for the three levels of protection. I
decided to go for the second level, the Internet Security for 3 computers or
gadgets because of the extra identity protection feature.

The antivirus is $19, the Internet Security is $29 and the Complete is $39
and includes 25 G of online back up.

I don't want to mislead anyone that it is totally accessible with Jaws but
it mostly is and I am pleased so far as most settings are automatic and I
don't need the really advanced stuff.

If you missed Microsoft’s two-and-a-half-hour dog-and-pony show, there’s an
excellent 12-minute YouTube
recap,
put together by blogger Bavo Luysterborg (better known as Bav0).

The Windows 8 debacle’s impact on Microsoft is abundantly clear in the
presentation. CEO Satya Nadella stated that the grand goal of Windows 10 was
to
make PC users not just want to use Windows, but to love using the OS. Lofty
statements are expected at press conferences, but the announcement that
really
caught everyone’s attention was the use of Windows 10 and “free” in the same
sentence. Operating Systems VP Terry Myerson declared “we will be making
available
a free upgrade to Windows 10 to all devices running [Windows 8.1 and Windows
Phone 8.1].”

Most surprising, however, was the statement that all Windows 7 users will
get a free upgrade for a year after Win10’s release and once they’ve
upgraded,
all future changes to Windows 10 will be free. There is, of course, some
ambiguity I’ll discuss at the end of this article. (Has Microsoft taken
another
lesson from Apple, or it is a sort of unspoken apology to those who bought
Windows 8?)

Take care.

Microsoft’s Jan. 21 Windows 10 presentation revealed all sorts of new

Here’s an overview of what you can see in the current Win10 Tech Preview

When I run iTunes without the scripts this doesn't happen. Of course
without the scripts iTunes is not as friendly, so it's a catch22.

Btw I have the same configuration as you do with jaws 15 and win7 64 bit.

I went from Version 8 to 13, and at the time, the price was $200 for the
software, and $200 for the SMA, so the total was $400. The price is much
cheaper now however, although I have not committed them to memory just yet,
but both should cost you less than $300.

Of course you can upgrade. You'll just have to pay for the SMA if you're
out. I think once you're behind a couple of JFW releases though, then the
cost gets a bit prohibitive. I've always stayed current, so don’t' recall at
the moment what it would be. I think though, I went from JFW 8 to 11 and it
cost me something like $440.00.
