[JAWS-Users] question about hidden files

2011-04-10 Thread Wayne Scott
I am running Jaws 11 with Vista. In my music folder, I have Album Art files
which I cannot see. How do I delete these? they take up space. However, I
don't want to delete the music files. I checked on the View page and couldn't
find any option to give me a clue on how to show hidden files. any help would
be greatly appreciated. Wayne

Wayne,
Where is the save connection box. I have looked for this just after I have
connected with the network for the first time.
I am running Windows 7, 64 bit with Jaws 12.
I know that reconnecting is no big deal, but, I sure would like to know
this.

Thanks again,
Russ

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Laptop automatically connecting to network

Hi everyone,

I have asked this question before, but I have some additional evidence
and

a
question.

In three cases I was able to connect to a connection and have my laptop
set
up to automatically reconnect to this network when I was in range again.
On
other cases, this has not worked.

Examples

After successfully connecting to a network, I went to manage wireless
networks link and found the network here. I went to properties and found
the
checkbox checked which would always allow me to automatically reconnect.

On two different occasions, I have successfully connected to a network,
but,
when I went to the manage wireless networks, i did not find the current
network, and could not set up this automatic feature.

One of these was the Laquinta Inn and the other was our auto dealership
network.

Are there certain networks that do not allow you to use this automatic
feature, or is there something I need to change.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Thank you,

Russ

[JAWS-Users] solution

2011-04-08 Thread Wayne Scott
I found a solution to the Research it feature for Jaws 11. I couldn't get the
Business look up feature to work. I talked with Freedom yesterday. They
told me to install jaws 12 and copy toe rules file for the research it feature
to Jaws 11. Then I uninstalled Jaws 12 and now Research it works great. I
hope this makes sense.

Hi Maria  Wayne;

For Maria with Jaws12 in the Settings Center;
1. Open the configuration manager the default all applications.
2. Type in Web / HTML / PDFs in the Search Box or, just arrow down to it
press the right arrow to open.
3. Arrow down to Reading, press right arrow to open.
4. Now, arrow down 2 times there's the indicate blocked quotations
option,
check it, tab to okay, press enter to save your changes, close the
config

manager.

For Wayne with Jaws11  the configuration manager;
1. Open the configuration manager, open the default JCF Jaws configuration
manager, press Alt + S, to open the Set Options menu.
2. Arrow down to, HTML Options, press enter, or, just press the letter H,
2 open.
3. When you the HTML options you should land in the Text tab, just tab
once

or twice you will hear jaws read the indicate blocked quotations option,
press the spacebar to check it, tab to okay, press
enter, press control + S, to save your changes close.

Hope this helps I didn't butcher these steps too badly. Take care.
 Mike

I notice that quite a few people write the list about Research It not
working from time to time.
The most likely cause for this, is that website information used in
Research It has changed.
Jaws relies on specific information from each site to be available, and
when the website in question changes that information,

the Research It utility fails to work correctly.
This is why FS will have to continually update Jaws in order for Research
It to work.
Whenever you have a problem retrieving information using this utility, and
you will , simply contact FS to make them aware of the problem.
I'm not bashing FS, I'm just pointing out why folks that use Research It
experience these problems.
Personally, I prefer using Internet Explorer since the same information
can be obtained from the individual sites that Research It accesses.
So, if Research It fails to get the information you are looking for, try
going to the corresponding website and getting it.

HTH,
Rick Justice

Re: [JAWS-Users] jaws commands on a laptop?

2010-12-07 Thread Wayne Scott
You don't have to configure anything. The Jaws key on your laptop is the
Caps lock key. The Windows key is usually on the left hand side next to the
Alt key.
The Pc cursor is the Caps Lock plus the semicolon. I'm not sure what key
is the Jaws Cursor. The Jaws cursor is the Caps Lock plus the letter P.
Hope this helps. Wayne ScottA merry heart does good like medicine, but a

I recently got a laptop and am trying to determine what keys are used for
jaws cursor, the pc cursor, and the windows key. If I need to configure
specific keys for this, could someone send me the information on how to do
this? I've already changed jfw settings for laptop instead of disktop.

Good morning,

I've been a supporter of JAWS since version 2.x. Always have stayed
up-to-date on my SMA. Never have I been totally dismayed with a major
update until version 12.x.

This has got to be the worst release of JAWS I've ever tried.

First graphics it use to read as so, it now recognizes them as buttons.
Quite irritating when you use quick navigation keys to jump to certain
elements of a web page to read it faster.

And it is quite the memory hog! JAWS 12.x crashes so much on my high-end
Windows 7 machine, I've gone back to using 11.x. Think it has something
to do with the Virtual Ribbon or new fangled Config manager, who knows.
Anycase, it is very irritating to be reading a web page, only to have it
go silent for 3 minutes, and then JAWS comes back.

Sorry HJ, but I hate v12 of JAWS and have gone back to using v11.x
perminantly. It's more stable and doesn't crash every 5 minutes.

Wish you allowed us to switch the config manager back to the old one. Do
away with using this new Virtual Ribbon. Give us a choice to switch them
on and off.

If I get booted for expressing my feelings on this list, so be it. Never
done this before, until now.

Feel better getting this off my chest. Thanks for listening.

I'm speaking only on version 12 - whatever blessings have come or will
come are another story - yes, FS is in the business of making money - and
that is fine , however I believe there are some releases that are shoved
out onto us and we'll just take anything because we need it ...itit's
easy: here it is: they make money off of blind people - big money - do you
really think that these releases are worth the money you just shelled
out? Of course they are not. The government buys 88 percent of these
programs so the price is based on that.
I'm not being hard - I'm being too soft - it's ridiculous what we pay for
these programs. They should be shamed of themselves.

Patrick, think you're being a little hard on HJ.

Yes, I'm quite upset with the 12 release, but JAWS has been a blessen in
my eyes in accessing the Internet and doing work on my PC.

I don't believe HJ would release any product simply to make a buck. They
really try their best to keep up with changes to Windows, browsers and
other en-user applications. Just think they did too much to JAWS this
time around. They will get it together. I thoroughly believe that in my
heart.

Player, Windows XP, Jaws 11.
Go to desktop, type w for windows media player and enter
or
go to Start menu, then programs, type w for windows Media Player and
enter
Because Window Media Player (WMP) opens to wherever you left off from

tab to Windows Media Player button as our start entry point.
On buttons press space bar twice to get context windows with a list of
options.

Go to each button to check out settings.
tab to rip button, press space bar twice, down arrow to eject after
ripping and enter to check that CD

will eject when complete.
press escape
tab to burn button and space bar twice and enter on eject after burning
press escape
Now you will know when ripping and burning is completed because each time
CD should eject

insert audio CD
Song will begin press control+s to stop playing
tab to the rip button, press space bar twice, down arrow to rip record
title D: and enter

Ripping begins
Alternatively you can press enter on start rip button or press alt+s key
Rip begins, Takes time to rip songs give it about 10 minutes
CD ejects
tab to burn button press space bar twice
Remove disk and enter a blank CD
tab to library tree view which is closed, right arrow to open
down arrow to select by artist
Tab to list view of artist
down arrow to select the band you wish to rip
Alternatively you could have selected just added, by song, year...
After selecting band use the Jaws drag and drop key control+insert+num

slash
tab twice to basket list
Use Jaws drag and drop key control+insert+num pad slash to drop songs in
basket window

So this will stay on topic of Jaws In most cases and with the help of
script

writing the simple answer is yes. Where some people, run into trouble is
getting the brain to multi task effectively. Unless you want a person
knowing you are blind. One wears a head set with Jaws in one, ear,
customer

chatting away in the right ear, and you answering the questions or getting
information, while, typing on the keyboard. I have worked and still work
at
AAA, Call Center where 2 other blind and 2 visually impaired work too.
I've
been there 10.5 years. As noted if the company is willing to work with
you,

some script writing you will be fine. Especially with the latest jaws. If
you are working with a Braille display in combo you are pretty much
Golden.

Just my point of view, Geno

Hi Mitch;

Try the following;
While in Outlook Express,
1. Alt + T, for tools
2. R, for message rules.
3. S, for the blocked senders list.
Once you are in this dialogue, you will have a list of blocked senders.

From the list, choose the one you want, and then tab to the remove button,

and okay your way out of the dialogue.

I asked previously why my battery level percentage continues to decrease
even with the power chord plugged in. The answer I received in essence was
to be certain all power connections where tight and securely plugged in
which after checking indicates that they are. I wonder why this is
happening. However, I still in addition I would like to know if this laptop
battery level keeps decreasing and reaches for example a zero percentage,
even when the power chord is connected shouldn't the laptop still function
like perhaps a desktop would perform? This would be ok since I treat this
full keyboard laptop like a desktop now anyway because I no longer haul it
around because I have a small netbook as my portable PC. Thanks.

My laptop is about four years old. Maybe that is the issue. However, in

plugged in not charging. This percentage keeps dropping. I tried
unplugging the power chord to let the battery run down and then plugging
the power chord back in to charge the battery but the percentage keeps
dropping. What's going to happen when the percentage get's to five percent

Yes, for me it was JAWS 4.something. I moved over kicking and

Dear Carliss, and Fellow List Members,
Yes, I am having this problem in Word doc files!
At first it seemed so Terrible, but it so sporadic!
That is some times it happens and some times not!
I have no idea what causes this, but when I have this problem, I just try
again to have JAWS read all the way down with the JAWS key plus 8 on the
number pad!
Some times I have to hit this key combination 2, 3, even 4 times, but it
finally does get started to the point where it reads all the way down!

Very Strange!

I am using JAWS 11 latest version XP-Home.

Wayne just curious but how responsive do you actually find it? I know this
doesn't answer your question but was curious.
The answer is you don't do it in Configuration Manager anymore; you
instead go to options, voices, voice adjustment. In the profile combo box
choose RealSpeak and press enter. This is in the JAWS application.

Hope this helps.

Dear David and Fellow List Members,
But I thought all versions of Windows comes with a talking clock!

I mean, I hold down the JAWS key, (0 on the num pad) and hit F12 and I get
JAWS speaking the time.
To get the Day and Date I hit it twice in rapid succession.

If you do not mind, I will tell you what a group of Blind Chess
enthusiasts

are desperately looking for, a computerized Chess Clock, that is a clock
with two times, one for you and one for your opponent, which you can stop
and start, like a pair of Timers.

Has anyone seen anything like this that is JAWS friendly?

I have seen some Chess Clocks on web sites before, but they do not work
at

all with JAWS.

Thanks for any assistance in this matter.

Not real clear why you are having a problem with an interim

may help some folks who have submitted issues to Freedom

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Turning off password

   Hi all
I have XP home and 10.0.
I want to turn off the password when turning on my PC.
I followed directions to change a password and saw the link to turn off
passwords, however, when I now turn on my PC, I am still asked to log
in with the password, but

the new password has changed to the enter key.

Now ,when I go to users' account there is no option to turn off
passwords.

Is there a way to turn this off so all I have to do is turn on the
power button and not log in?

Thank you.

Hi Josh  Wayne;

These are for Outlook Express and I don't know if they work for Window's
Mail. When making a message rule and you choose rule 6, subject contains
specific words, what you type in rules 9 thru 11 must be exactly as they
appear in the emails you receive. Meaning if there are brackets, spaces,
some letters capitalized and some not, the entry has to be exact as the
email subject line. For example; [JAWS-Users] is exactly the way it
should look when inserting in rules 9 thru 11 if the message rule is for
Jaws-Users.
Making Message Rules

This particular instance wil automatically tell Outlook Express to place
all

emails from (what you set up) into your new folder that you made.

1 make sure you have a folder in your OE list of folders called(x) the
name

of your folder that you want all your emails to go into.

Here we go.

2. While in OE, hit alt T to take you to the Tools menu.

3. press r to take you to message rules

4. press the letter M for Mail.

5. Press Tab one time for New and press enter.

6. Arrow down untill you hear where subject line contains specific words
and

Press the spacebar one time

7. Now tab once to Actions list. You will see or hearMove it to the
specified folder. Again, press the space bar one time.

8. Now tab once until you see or hear Name of the rule. section 3 New mail
rule

9. arrow down to (where the subject line contains specific words)

10. press enter

11. type in exactly what is on the subject line of the email

12. tab to add and press spacebar

13. arrow down until you hear the name of the subject line you put in

14. tab to ok press spacebar

15. Down arrow one time to move it to specified folder, press enter

16. Now you will up or down arrow until you hear the name of your folder
spoken(to what ever you named your folder in the inbox).

17. Tab over to Ok and hit enter. You will be taken back to the mail rules
page.

18. tab to section 4

Press the delete key on (New Mail Rule #1) and then type in the name you
want showing in the message rules list.

19. tab to ok press spacebar

20. Tab to Apply Now and hit enter.

21. This step I'm not certain of. You may be able to tab past this and go
on to the next step. Another screen here and you should tab to Select all
button

and press space bar

22. Tab until you see or hear Apply to Folder Inbox. Hit enter.

23. You will be given a message that your rules have been applied. Hit
enter.

24. Tab to close and press enter

25. You are now in the mail rules page again and you should tab to OK and
hit enter.

you are now finished. Hope this has helped. Take care.

I have saved my cds on laptop. I have over 1000 songs. I assume they
are
saved as WMA files. However, I would like to convert them to MP3. Is
there a way to do this without having to purchase some program? Wayne

One additional note to be cognizant of is some WMA files
have a DRM layer built in. If the WMA files you are looking
at contain this I'm not aware of any direct conversion
option that will work. There are work arounds but it does
get to be a pain. This is one reason I stopped purchasing
DRM layered WMA files. Seems to me years ago when I was
buying music from Wal-Mart download I ran into this. Just a
FYI if it applies

if you didn't convert them when you saved them, they are probably still
in the CDA format. You can use a program like CDEX to convert them to
either WAV or MP3.
