[JAWS-Users] Jaws 14 and Office 2013 Professional plus
Hi all, I am having difficulties, maybe, because this version of JF isn't supporting this office? I am waiting for SMA, but there is some procedure in my company. 1. When I press ctrl. o. I don't have classic dialogue as in 2003, there are some tabs maybe last opened or edited documents, only on last tab is something as unsaved and there when I press space-bar I can select the files. 2. When I press ctrl. c/v I am facing some dialogue how to copy/paste, I must press esc. to close it. 3. When I will go to the some folder where are some xls/doc files, the explorer is frozen and I must few minutes, when the window is possible move between files. 4. When I press ctrl. f4 before I could close all files, now each file I must close separately. 5. When I must enable some macros, I am not able move cursor to the edit button as before. 6. When closing documents 2003 asked me if save yes/no, here is don't save and as I was before pressing yes now it is confusing me. Any help would be good. JF on win 7 64 professional. [JAWS-Users] Jaws 14 and Office 2003
Can you please tell me of Jaws 14 is compatible with Word 2003 and Outlook 2003? Does Jaws 14 have any problems reading certain kinds of emails as it does with Outlook 2007? I'm thinking about upgrading to Jaws 14, but only if it will work with those programs with which I'm comfortable. I would have to upgrade to Magic 12 and the last time I tried this, I found Magic 12 very difficult because it was so different from magic 11. Re: [JAWS-Users] JAWS 14 15 With MS Office 2013 365
Gary, I don't have specific experiencce with Office 365. I don't know if it is accurate to say Jaws 15 works best with Office 2013; I think the accurate thing to say is Jaws 15 is the version of Jaws that works best with Office 2013. I don't like the fact that I have to annually renew my subscription with Office 365. Personally, unless there are features that you need in 2013 that aren't available in Office 2007/2010, I wouldn't feel the urge to upgrade. Also, and others who have more experience may chime in, but at one time, there were issues with the Office 365 because Jaws had interpreted it as an Internet Explorer process because of the cloud aspect of the program. The regular Office 2013 edition did not have that component. [JAWS-Users] JAWS 14 not reading when moving back in a doc or list
Hi All, I am using JAWS 14 on a Windows 7 machine with Office 2010. Yesterday I updated my computer to I.E.10 which required me to update my operating system along with all the various Microsoft updates that I did not know I needed until I started this process. I am finding that JAWS is not reading in the following situations: . When in Outlook I can use the down arrow to move down through the items in the list of the Inbox and other folders, and JAWS reads just fine. When I use the up arrow, JAWS will not read, nor does it appear to me that I am even able to move up in the list. . When in an e-mail message I cannot use the up arrow to move back in the message to review what I wrote. . When on a web page I can use the down arrow and tab key to move forward/down on the page, but I cannot move up/back using the up arrow or Shift+Tab. . In a Word doc I can again move down and hear JAWS read each line, but again cannot move up. While writing this message, I have found that I can use the right and left arrows and Control with right and left arrows to move around, and Control+home to get to the beginning of the message. Does anyone have any ideas about what is wrong? Thanks, Annette For answers to frequently asked questions about this list visit: http://www.jaws-users.com/help/

[JAWS-Users] JAWS 14 with PowerBraille 40
Hello, List, The subject line tells you what braille display and version of JAWS I'm running. Additionally I'm running a 64-bit version of Windows 7. In older versions of JAWS, I had some ability to control the point at which characters on the display began to slide leftward out of view as new characters were added to the end of a line, and this also had an effect on where words broke before the 40th cell on the display. I believe this was accomplish through an advanced setting called something like Panning Mode. I found this feature valuable as I do a lot of editing in Notepad and wouldn't care if words didn't break at all as I move the display window to the right. But so far I've not been able to locate an equivalent feature In JAWS 14 menus. Can someone tell me where to locate the Panning Mode or an equivalent, or if there's another way to accomplish what I want. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance! [JAWS-Users] jaws 14 with itunes 10
Hello, I posted this question before, but it somehow didn't make it to the list. I am using itunes 10. I honestly do not like the new itunes so I'm reluctant to switch. I am currently running JAWS 14. I am able to accomplish tasks like importing and just recently have figured out a way to use the itunes store. However, I need some suggestions on how I could independently accomplish syncing my ipod. I know it's a standard usb connection, but the problem is knowing when it is safe to remove. Are there keyboard commands for this? Also, how can I create playlists in itunes? I am able to click the button for new playlist but I don't see a way to select specific songs. Finally, does anyone know how to burn CDS in itunes? For example, if I've created a playlist that I want to burn to a CD, what steps would I follow using JAWS? what do you mean Even with reading stopped, I still can't route the JAWS cursor anywhere near the correct screen position, under what circumstances are you attempting this feat and for what? a bit more info would help. and the location of the cursor given in that format is the screen location of the active cursor in pixels which works for script writing and some other unusual things but is not much worth to a normal day screen reader user if your having troubles in internet explorer, there are a few tricks, but sometimes it just depends on what has been used to generate the page and what it's supposedly showing you. inthane -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Mike O'Brien Sent: Friday, May 17, 2013 7:27 AM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] JAWS 14 Key To Announce The Screen Location Hi Alt+numpad delete will give you the cursor position for the active cursor for all 3 cursor types, PC, JAWS and invisible. Re: [JAWS-Users] JAWS 14 Key To Announce The Screen Location
Hi On some web pages, there are items that can be clicked with the mouse to bring up other pages, but there not links or graphics. Also JAWS does not say clickable. For example, on the site www.amtrak.com, there is an item that reads status. It's not a link or graphic and dot indicated as clickable. You can find it by reading with the virtual cursor or with JAWS find. But pressing enter or space does nothing. So I route JAWS to PC and left click, but again nothing happens. It appears that the only way to activate it is to actually click it with the mouse. -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of inthaneelf Sent: Saturday, May 18, 2013 4:07 AM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] JAWS 14 Key To Announce The Screen Location what do you mean Even with reading stopped, I still can't route the JAWS cursor anywhere near the correct screen position, under what circumstances are you attempting this feat and for what? a bit more info would help. and the location of the cursor given in that format is the screen location of the active cursor in pixels which works for script writing and some other unusual things but is not much worth to a normal day screen reader user if your having troubles in internet explorer, there are a few tricks, but sometimes it just depends on what has been used to generate the page and what it's supposedly showing you. inthane -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Mike O'Brien Sent: Friday, May 17, 2013 7:27 AM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] JAWS 14 Key To Announce The Screen Location Hi Alt+numpad delete will give you the cursor position for the active Alt+cursor for all 3 cursor types, PC, JAWS and invisible. Re: [JAWS-Users] JAWS 14 Key To Announce The Screen Location
hmmm, ok another possible problem is that when a webpage comes up, it is auto highlighted by the jaws/mouse cursor by it (done in the scripts) running in a mouse click and hold fashion from the top, to the bottom of the page, and then the pc cursor follows it down, so where the pc cursor says is not always accessible to jaws due to the clickable area is that is which is shown on screen and jaws has been parked off screen and the pc cursor may or may not be on screen, a real headache setup for something like what your trying to do. a simple thing that might... help is to stop the reading, move to the spot you desire to click with the pc cursor (I usually put it, a few lines from the bottom of the viewable area) , refresh the screen with insert and escape, then move jaws to pc, move the jaws cursor onto the item manually, and hit the left click button. another item that might work is a scripter's application called hot spot clicker, as I follow it, I believe its used to determine exactly where to click something to activate it (mostly used in the more graphical item screens of programs but may well work here due to the type of item that your talking about). a third thought, is that many of these types of items have an unidentified icon in them so are not noticed by the usual named icons only of jaws normal settings. so it may just sit there and look at you funny (a whimsical way of saying something like your encountering), and not be properly recognized by jaws as something to pay attention to, (yes I have dealt with pages with such things on them), so temp turn your graphics to view all and see if graphics wise it doesn't at least show up more correctly, refresh the screen, and then try to jaws to it and left mouse click it. Re: [JAWS-Users] JAWS 14 Key To Announce The Screen Location
Hi, List, Currently soldiering on without a braille display, this matter of cursor position has come to be of interest to me. On my keyboard, running WIN7 and just-updated JAWS, I find it's the keyboard DELETE, not numpad that works. The first number gives me the position in a line of text; second number gives me the lime I'm on; this is followed by a percentage which tells me how far along I am in the file. HTH. Re: [JAWS-Users] JAWS 14 Key To Announce The Screen Location
Hi When the JAWS cursor is active, alt+numpad delete will give you the position of the JAWS cursor in pixels. If you want the pixel position of the PC cursor, you will need to route JAWS to PC before asking for the screen position. -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of northstar1...@okiespirit.net Sent: Friday, May 17, 2013 10:42 AM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] JAWS 14 Key To Announce The Screen Location if the jaws cursor is active, you get the location of the cursor in pixels so you would use those numbers in a script to goto(x,y) Legend has it that on Friday 5/17/2013 09:27 AM, Mike O'Brien said: Hi Alt+numpad delete will give you the cursor position for the active Alt+cursor for all 3 cursor types, PC, JAWS and invisible. When the virtual cursor is active, those keys will give you a position, but I don't know what the position represents. It may be the position in the virtual buffer, but of what use is that? [JAWS-Users] JAWS 14 Taking Frequent Rest Breaks
I'm now running JAWS 14 with a 64-bit version of Windows 7, Office 2007, and IE9. Often when using the READ ALL command to read documents including MS Word, text and XML files, JAWS will suddenly stop and I have to repeat the command to get the reading to resume. Sometimes this occurs between paragraphs, but not always. Any ideas what's causing this and if there's a fix to keep this from happening? Thanks in advance. [JAWS-Users] Jaws 14 and itunes 11
Hi group: Yesterday, I had to update my credit card information on my Apple ITunes account. I tried many different things which always worked in the past to go through the different edit fields on the account page of iTunes. Nothing worked this time, I kept getting kicked back to the home page of the ITunes store. this was very frustrating for me, even when my wife looked at it, she saw a different page then what jaws 14 had me on. I finally called 800 my apple and I got a live operator who did the updated credit card information for me, after I had explained all that I had been through trying to update my account. he was very nice and he is going to send a detailed report to the tech. people for the iTunes store to see if they can make everything 100 percent accessible for the jaws screen reader. I also let freedom scientific know about the problem with the edit fields and the combo boxes. Have any of you had similar problems with changing your account settings or using the combo boxes on iTunes? If so, the more of us who will take the time to contact Apple and freedom Scientific about these problems will help all of us in the long run. I personally love iTunes and all that it offers us... So a up-date and not so correct sentences. First off I found a person, not on this group that was willing to work with myself and this computer. A: First off with all virus protection, which three they are all paid Pro programs. B: Still using Outlook Office as work for home and e-mail but will in time go to Outlook Office 2010 after finishing training in it. Just to busy training for up grades for AAA call center. C: I use Quicken 10 thinking and that runs my home entirely. That said. This is a Windows 7 and the owner on this list knows what it all has in it. Which Jaws 13 latest was working grand on it. When Internet 9 was installed, I decided to go with Jaws 14 that I have a license for. First stripping all of Jaws 13 and all associated to it. Then installed Jaws 14 February release. This proven to be a frustration as it would freeze up. I did report and to this date not heard from FS Tech that is looking at the dump files that was told on HIGH Priority. That said, I asked questions here and because of sentence and language barriers.. Well, I contacted a friend that uses Jaws here and there. He uses another screen reader but this is Jaws group. First off he noted that this machine was more or less set up for gamers. Thus noted go to the web site and see what recommendations and then to the Microsoft site and see the optional up dates see if related to the cards and bingo so down loaded them. Also installed with this gentleman's Help the newest of Java for windows 7 and 64 bit and installed. Unlike some comments on the list. It is a valued tool here and there. FS, Tech, also advised that one should have the latest of Java as noted on their site. Because of the Jaws not coming back and well just turn the power off on four different times. So Friday I did a complete disc clean up, left over night to do it's thing, the last step 7 hours. then After work did a defrag. To this point Jaws 14 seems by all accounts working and no disappearance of Jaws 14 to this point. I am going to leave it on all day today to see if Jaws 14 will still be there anytime during the day and evening. If so the ideas that my friend in Louisiana, who has a heart of Gold, willing to work with me knowing I am scared as heck of the guts of this computer. Slowly walk me through VIA Skype to complete the project at hand. Compared to the cold reception on the Jaws Users Group. Yet, There is some valued information with Blind Computing and Jaws users group so I don't mind donating to the keeping David's group site going. As in the business of Call Receiving at AAA, Presentation, compassion, understanding and tone of delivery which is highly recommended, demanded, that it could be used here. So quick to judge. There is myself and others that are scared as heck of the insides of the computer. Others here are A walk in the park on the insides of a computer. So how about cutting a break and understand all are not near the level as those of you that are on a higher level or experts. I can see why people are afraid to ask questions. Re: [JAWS-Users] Jaws 14/W-7 and Java?
Yeah, I've lived without Sun's Java now for the last six weeks and have yet to find any issues. Don't confuse the Sun Java with Adobe's Flash which is different. I know they claim to have resolved the issue with update 13, but they also claimed to have fixed it with update 11, which was shown to not be the case in a couple days. Also, despite Sun's claims, untying Internet Explorer from Flash wasn't very easy. Since there are real critical security issues with Flash that were left open for a long time, if you don't need Sun Flash, why open yourself up to potential problems? - Original Message - From: Chris Hill hil...@earthlink.net To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Sent: Monday, February 18, 2013 8:32 AM Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] Jaws 14/W-7 and Java? Chris, apparently your one of those who are totally against java, I don't use it myself, but some folks do, and therefore need java and the java bridge, if you have the location for the files give them to the poor fellow and quit being a pain in the rear end, this is most unlike you? whatthehell? inthane -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Chris Hill Sent: Friday, February 15, 2013 9:31 AM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] Jaws 14/W-7 and Java? Re: [JAWS-Users] Jaws 14/W-7 and Java?
First question: how do you know you have a problem? What isn't working? For example, the Libre Office 3.64 did not work, but the 4.0 at least tries. Open office didn't work either last time I checked. Even at its best, Libre Office under windows with java access bridge is not ready for prime time, it is only somewhat workable in the word processor, the spreadsheet doesn't tell you where you are at unless you set screen echo to full and listen to a lot of chatter. I know Java just came out with an update this week, that supposedly addresses their gaping security issues. But, I am certainly not planning to install Java soon after all the problems Sun had with it that got revealed a month ago. Its one thing to have problems, its quite another to have known about them for over a year and not address them. - Original Message - From: Stormin stor...@maine.rr.com To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Sent: Friday, February 15, 2013 2:01 PM Subject: [JAWS-Users] Jaws 14/W-7 and Java? [JAWS-Users] JAWS 14 with Windows 8
Hello Everyone, I am about to purchase a new laptop. I am trying to decide rather to go ahead and get a Windows 8 machine or try to find one with Windows 7. I am using JAWS 14, which does work with Windows 8. However, I have been told by some that Windows 8 is difficult to use with a screen reader. I am curious as to what kind of experience that list members have had using JAWS with Windows 8. I'd say go ahead and go for windows 8. It works just fine for me. It's not hard to use it's just people don't like to work hard. I'm like that to some times to be honest. So I'm not really bashingthem. See what is hard wal what was kind of for me was that things aren;'t all where you know them to be. Some things work differently too. So yeah, it's not all that bad. The start screen, it's like a table. So, yeah. It's your choice in the end, but I would go for it if it were me. You're very wize to ask how it works. I applaud you. Re: [JAWS-Users] JAWS 14 with Windows 8
Certainly, Win 8 is useable by Jaws 14 etc. I guess I'm an old fuddy-duddy, comments like what is below don't seem to be very helpful. Here are some considerations to bear in mind: 1. Win 8 layout is completely different from earlier versions. I do AT training, and there are several people who have upgraded to Win 8 and subsequently had their systems rolled back to Win 7. Yes, there are workarounds like classic shell etc. but the Win 8 experience is if not quite radically different, it is certainly a lot more unique that previous upgrades. Second, you may not have support for some of your programs in Win 8, I don't know if Openbook has released a patch to work in Win 8 yet, for example. If you are getting a new computer, then there are some nice advantages with Win 8 including Safeboot. But, since there are so many sighted users unhappy with Win 8, for my money, I'm sticking with Win 7 which will be supported for another seven years, and I'll await a more user-friendly Windows 9 which will probably be out sooner than later. I think Win 8 is Microsoft's latest equivalent of Windows ME and Vista, as Herman and His Hermits would say A Must to Avoid! Take my advice, I don't use it anyway. [JAWS-Users] JAWS 14 with Windows 8
Hi Scott: I made the decision to buy a new windows 7 desktop computer in November. I read the how to use windows 8 books from bookshare. I decided for now to stay with windows 7, even though for the most part windows 8 looks like it works very well with Jaws. I am very happy with my choice, I am one who is not afraid to learn new things. I just think for me that windows 7 is smooth and secure right out of the box, and very accessible with jaws. I had no problems setting the new computer up and installing my programs. I have a 3.6 GHZ AMD FX-4100 quad processor with 6 GB of ram and a TB of storage. I was able to buy this computer cheaper because it was a windows 7 instead of a w-8. So keep that in mind as well as you shop for a computer, you should be able to get a more powerful windows 7 computer for the same money as a less powerful window 8 one , in my opinion. Re: [JAWS-Users] JAWS 14 with Windows 8
Cool man. Like I said. It's your choice in the end, and yeah, I guess if there are things that don't work then yeah that is something to be carefull of. Like Open Book for instance. Come to think of it, Magic is another example. It don't work. I guess that the lay out thing didn't really bother me as much as it did others. That's fine I guess. I guess my main theme should have been try it out for your self and see what you think. Take a win 8 PC out for a spin in other words. But I guess you said you'll stick with Win 7 though. That's fine. I was just saying it's fine, win 8 is fine that is, and it was good of you to ask. It would have been even cooler if you could try it out which I don't know if you have. Paull Thurott guesses that Win 9 will be more metro like then Win 8 already is. But who knows. We'll just have to weight and see. -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Steve Sent: Wednesday, February 13, 2013 1:51 PM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] JAWS 14 with Windows 8 Certainly, Win 8 is useable by Jaws 14 etc. I guess I'm an old fuddy-duddy, comments like what is below don't seem to be very helpful.
